View 1 Replies View RelatedI have an old White BT router (from the UK)
Also a 60m ethernet cable. It won't send a signal far enough to be picked up by an ethernet port on another computer at that distance via cable.
However, a modern Zyxel Router will chuck it through that length of cable OK
way to get the BT router (v1 or 1.5) to do this ?

Our house is located up a hill and a long way (1,400ft) from the main road and we always have problems with the signal dropping on our cable internet connection. According to the line tech's that have been to our house the problem lies with the 20+ year old cable that is being used to get the cable signal from the road box to the house
I am wanting to replace that cable but from what i have read so far is that cat 5/6 cannot go the distance i require
I have looked into going with a long range wi-fi but there is no direct line of site from the road to the house and there are a million tree's in between us and the road so its not really practical .we are not needing any major amount of speed, just enough to do surfing, streaming, and the kids like to do multiplayer gaming. 7-10mbps would be great for us, before we started having problems with the cable we were only getting 4-5mbps and that was enough for what we needed
I need to run a cat 6 about 350 feet. will that be alright

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a problem, where we are installing a Cisco 2602 access piont, the AP is getting power as the lights are on (changing colors Green, White, Red). In the switch side the LED for the interface is blinking green only when I chosse PoE. Also I cannot see the AP in CDP neighbours.
It seems to be a physical problem but the cable is tested and showing connected for all pairs and parallal (straight) connection.
Access Point was connected directly to the same interface (I mean with a patch cable to the switch) and working
I am using 10Gig link to connect distribution and access switches. Since we are terminating the cables at multiple locations, we are also doing the link budgeting. The CISCO SFP 10G-LR module data sheet shows two values for the transmit power one of which is maximum power .5dBm and another is minimum power -8.2 dBm. Which value should I choose for the link budgeting.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have optimum dsl, windows 7 computers, a windows server a lynksys router and a gigabit switch. The cable power went out in the area last friday. Now they say the internet is on but our network wont pick it up. After reading a number of sites it seems our switch to router may be the issue. the switch has all similar ports for network cable connections. the router has an obvious port for the main cable internet connection. I can not figure out if the location of connectors on the gigabyte switch matter in terms of where the switch and router connect to each other. this all worked last week. my other problem is that i have no internet access at the office to troubleshoot this. I dont remember model numbers for the switch and modem. we have 6 computers networked.

You have to actually go and recycle the power by physically pressing the button.Plus, to setup Port Forwarding you have to reboot the modem. This is a major problem because it means you have to be on the premises to change things like the port forwarding. You setup it up, but have to reboot for it to take effect.

2. The fact is that I have a cheap, simple chinese WiFi-ADSL-modem ZTE, which has 3 modes - low / medium / high for WI-FI signal. So, the signal is transmitted by ZTE at LOW-level is equivalent to signal, which now sends my WAG320N. When I turn ZTE on high-level, then the range of wi-fi signal increases much, comparing with the range given by WAG320N. So, where can I turn on high-mode in my WAG320N?

View 3 Replies View RelatedI am looking to upgrade my home wifi from a Linksys WRT54G running DD-WRT to something that will handle .11n. I've been looking at the Unifi PoE APs. Their base model support N, but only on 2.4GHz, and only has a 100Mb port. I was concerned about that being a limiting factor. They've recently released a new line that supports Dual Band and has a Gig port, but it cost about 4 times as much. Here are my goals:
1.) PoE if possible. Currently the AP is my rack in the basement. I'l thinking of running an additional cable to somewhere central on the first floor and putting the AP there for better coverage/signal. Running just a CAT 5e cable is much easier than having to supply power as well. Second thought was to get two Unifi APs and setup a mesh with roaming, which it looks like they support, for best coverage. In that case I'd put one in a top floor room that already has CAT 5e.
2.) I'd really prefer access points to a router. I already have a pfsense box that does the routing. If this means getting something that will run DD-WRT, Tomato, or the like and turning it into an AP fine.
3.) I would like something that is dual band .11n.
4.) Something that support RADIUS
5.) Multiple SSID support and VLAN support. I want to be able to offer at least 2 separate networks.
So am I stuck buying the Unifi dual band AP? Or should I get something like the Asus RT-N66U and put Tomato on it?Does anyone have acutal expreience with the Unifi products?

The first computer always is connected fine whether i unplug the router or modem in any order and replug. i dont know much how to fix this. ive tried some unplugging method once but it only worked until i turned the computer off and back on later. i am also running 2 xboxs with no trouble. i used cisco connect to diagnose problem but it just told me to unplug modem power and tv cable and i did that with no luck.although i have good equipment, the internet is pretty slow.i have the best service of my provider that states it has upto 50 mpbs download speed.i ran the cisco internet speed test and only got a max of 20 download and 5 upload.how could i speed this up?
