View 2 Replies View Relatedsetting up my new WRT54GL.this is my first encounter with a wireless router, though I've had 3 previous Linksys (hardwired) routers.I have to say, given that they give virtually no Mac support, it was a breeze….just plugged it in to my cable modem and my laptop and - boom - on the net on my first try!I'm able to access the router via it's web-based system and can now "tweak" with settings, but I'm running in to a lot of "tweakable" settings that I'm not familiar with.
First my setup. I have; (a.) 3 desktop Macs and a Samsung TV hardwired to the four Ethernet ports and (b.) my Mac laptop accessing the router via Airport Extreme wifi. All are happily accessing the web.But I realize that the reason that "(b.)" is accessing the web is that I've changed no default settings in the router and, not only can *I* access the router via wifi, but probably anyone driving down the road or sitting out in front of my house can access the web via my wifi. And I'd like to change that.I'm *guessing* that the router settings i need to change lie in the "Wireless Security" area of the router? And it's here that I'm running in to a lot of "tweakable" settings that I don't understand. But let me give an example of what I would *like* to accomplish.
Let's say that there are 3 different laptops…."A", "B" and "C". All 3 are Macs and running Airport Extreme. Now, "A" is my laptop, sitting here on my desk next to the router. As i leave Airport always turned on, I want "A" to *always* have access to the routers wifi *without* having to enter a username/password, i.e. when i turn "A" on, it's wired. Now "B" might be the laptop of a friend who happens by the house and need access. They would need to find my network on their laptop and then i would need to give them a password to let them get on .And finally, "C" is the guy I don't know out in the street whom I want to *never* have access to my network. So my question then is, can I accomplish this by changing settings in "Wireless Security" on my router and how/what would I change?
There must be a code that was entered when it was setup and I dont know it so as of right now I'm hooked up by cable I want to be hooked up wireless

View 1 Replies View RelatedAfter a couple of hours using the internet, the connection stopped. The wireless router still had an 'Excellent' signal, but it also said I had no internet access. All of the other wireless devices in my house connect to the internet perfectly, including when right next to the laptop.I've tried disabling the firewall and resetting the computer a few times, but nothing seems to pick up the internet access. The troubleshooting guide tells me that it is a problem with the wireless modem, but quite obviously that isn't true.

Just recently got a Zyxel VSG1432 router connected to the main computer in my home. I am now trying to connect my laptop wirelessly. It will connect to the router but says it is an unidentified network and it doesn't connect to the internet. There is an x in the network and sharing window.I have tried restarting the router, going to the router webpage and resetting to factory settings, none of this worked. Also contacted the service provider and spoke with two tech guys, but still no luck.

Trying to access the internet with a dell laptop after my daughter messed with the router. She gave me the passowd but when I try to log in from the laptop that has never been logged on since the pw changed, I get a message that wants the network key. I have read several posts about getting the network key but didn't see a network key.I have cisco connect on a different computer and can access the details of the router but haven't found the network key. I can get to Wireless, Wireless Security and the security mode is WPA2/WPA. I can see the password but where is the network key?
I have been having issues with my home network since upgrading my router from a WRT54GS to an E4200. Prior to this I had no difficulty in accessing my home group or my home network. I have 2 laptops, both are running Windows 7 Ultimate, one is x64 and one is x32.
Laptop 1 (x-64) can access my home network in all its glory ONLY wirelessly...plug in the Ethernet cable and I can't access laptop 2 or my network storage...Laptop 1 is also unable to join my homegroup even after deleting the old one and creating a new one.
Laptop 2 (x-32) can access my home network in most of its glory ONLY wired...unplug the Ethernet cable and I can't access my network storage and it becomes unavailable to Laptop 1 over the network. Laptop 2 is also not able to connect to Laptop 1 even though Laptop 1 can (sometimes) access files from Laptop 2's shared folders.
Also Laptop 2 cannot see a home group created by Laptop 1, but can create a homegroup that Laptop 1 can see but CAN'T join.I have run all the trouble shooters that the system throws at me to no avail, they all say that I have an unknown network error that it can't fix.I do have internet access on both laptops regardless of wired or wireless, and I spent over 2 hours with Cisco "senior" tech support only to be disconnected and realize that they had no clue about this new router..
I am experiencing connectivity issues with the wireless part for several weeks. The laptop connects to it, but it shows me that it does not have internet access.I also have a belkin router that I also use. So, when I have the connectivity issues, I connect to the other router. When I use the Cisco Connect application, it goes on for a couple of minutes and then gives the message "If you are not connected to my router SSID name you can't update your router settings".

I've used 887G-3G-K9 router and UC540, and I'm not sure if it's possible to do that on them or I need to get a license for that or to buy ASA. How can I check that URL blocking is available feature on those devices?
I've used 2 methods:
1) ACL
2) class-map and policy-map
class-map match-any http
match protocol http url "*facebook.com*"

I have a new laptop that cannot access my home wireless. There are 3 other computers that can access it so I know it's working. When I work away the new laptop can access other wireless connections. But as soon as I get home it's stuck on 'acquiring network address'. The weird thing is my kindle does the same thing as does my friends iphones & ipads. They all connect wireless no problems elsewhere but cannot at my house.
I've tried switching off the other others computers connections & trying to connect. Resetting the router

However, I can not access the internet when I chose a security password using WPA 2, WPA-PSK + WPA 2 PSK, or WPA/WPA 2. It only accesses the internet when I chose None.( no secured ).At this time, my network is unsecured because there isn't way I can access the internet when I create a security key using the 3 options the router offers.
