Aug 16, 2012My problem is that my son will not turn off his xbox at night. To get around this I want to connect the Xbox to an old netgear router that I am using as an access point to extend wireless coverage, so that I can use the parental controls on the netgear as the ones in the Sky Sagem are not adequate.I can disconnect the Netgear at a certain time if necessary and if this is the only way the xbox can connect it will have to go offline then!

Jun 2, 2011Currently using a netgear WG602 wireless router which i use to connect to my 2nd PC and Iphone, with the Netgear router running from my main PC.I have recently been having trouble with my 2nd PC ad Iphone randomly losing connection and the only way for the connection to be reastablished is to reboot the wireless router. Once rebooted i am able to connect again to the internet with no problems, interestingly enough my main PC never loses connection. Also sometimes when i lose my connection and reboot the wireless router i will have a IP conflict pop up on my 2nd PC however i would i say i get this once in every 10 dissconects and not all the time. Sometimes i won't dissconect at all in a day but sometimes i may dissconect 5-6 times.

Dec 27, 2012I have an E4200 router with 3 WET610N access points. I did the firmware update on the router, E4200, about 2 weeks ago so my son could use his xbox when he got home after 4 months of being away. Everything seemed to work OK as far as I could tell....but when he went to sign into xbox live and watch Netflix, it will load to 98% and stop. A friend of his came over with the new Slim xbox 360 with built in wireless and it will connect fine on its own, if we hook up one of the 610N's to it, it will load to 98% on Netflix and stop again with error code R8152. Both of my older xbox's will hook up and play on xbox live, just not work with Netflix.I also noticed, it shows the WET610N as a hard wire on xbox and will not search for any wireless networks, I have 2. The newer Slim xbox360 will search out both networks on its own if you allow it to use its internal wireless. This only happened since the firmware update.

Apr 25, 2011I've got a AP WAP54G. I've managed to get into the configuration page and rename my router and set a WPA2-Personl password.
The issue I'm facing is that when me and my roomate try to connect to the router at the same time, it shows the laptop that connects second as one that has 'limited connectivity' and hence cannot use the internet. The 1st laptop however works fine!
The settings for the router have all been left to default.
I'm not sure, but does this problem have anything to do with the fact that the router in configured with a static IP. If so, then there is another issure which is that whenever I try to change it from static to automatic/dynamic IP, the page fails and the router doesn't even get connected to the configuraion page(192.168.1.245) after that. The only way to get that page again is the reset the router.
Also I'm not able to directly get into the config page when I connect my router to my laptop via lan. I need to change the LAN IP to 192.168.1.x where x is >1.

Jan 10, 2013I have a Virgin Media Netgear VMDG480 broadband modem/router. Whilst the Ethernet performance is strong the Wifi signal strength is weak and only provides signal to half of my house. I've seen various comments on other forums that this is a common problem for this device. To overcome this I propose to install a Wireless Access Point at the far end of the house and connect this to the VMDG480 via powerlink. (I already use this powerlink connect to a PC at the far side of the house and this works really well.)
My concerns are:
1. Will the VMDG480 recognise the Wireless Access Point? I've seen some comments that suggest that this may be a problem.
2. Is there any specific type of Wireless Access Point that I should use to ensure compatibility with the VMDG480?
3. Is the use of a Wireless Access Point across powerlink a sensible approach?
4. An alternative approach is to use a Wireless Range Extender. Is this a better approach? If yes should I use a Netgear device to ensure compatibility?

This is connected by wire to a Buffalo WBMR-G54 wireless router.I have switched off DHCP and set a static IP of 198.168.11.99 on the netgear and it is using WPA-PSK security. Buffalo is on channel 6 and on WEP, Netgear channel 11.All was working fine, could connect on laptop, Ipad and iphone all working ok and then suddenly at about 6.00PM the connection became very slow (Last 2 Nights)Tried rebboting router, switched off security and no difference.

I have a netgear DG834GT ADSL router which runs fine with my Belkin 51B64C wireless router but when I enable "Use as Access Point" in order for me to see my wireless laptops connected to it the internet performance goes bad, the traffic cuts out momentarily for about 7 seconds at a time, its pretty difficult to surf the net having to wait.The setup is as follows:

as I said above the reason I enable "Use As Access Point" is so I can see the devices in Explorer for file sharing. Is there a way I can use port forwarding on the router to see the devices it would solve the performance problem.

May 10, 2013I'm using a WRT120N and have had no problems connecting most wireless devices, but a Nintendo DS and DSi owned by my family are unable to connect to the access point. My wireless security mode is disabled, network mode is set to mixed, SSID is the same as on the DS/DSi, Channel width is 20Mhz only, Standard channel is set to 6, but I tried using channel 1 and 11 without success, SSID broadcast is enabled.

That´s not very impressive, and even with the bridge located within 10 feet of the router, no walls in between. What am I doing wrong? I´ve set the MTU on the Readynas and the r6300 to 1500.When doing a wired test between the r6300 and the Readynas Pro I can copy a file from the Nas to desktop at approx 80-100MB/s, but with wireless ac via the wumc710 only at 4-8MB/s.

Aug 7, 2012What i'm trying to do is share my USB 3G modem to my Xbox.Tried setting up an ad hoc network using stock Vista settings and also tried using a program called Connectify. Using stock vista settings the ad hoc simply will not work. Using Connectify the ad hoc network works but only for a couple of hours, then the USB modem tries to connect to my ad hoc network which then disables the Internet connection on the USB modem. Its a baffling problem but most likely something to do with the USB modem which just gets stuck trying to connect to a wep secured ad hoc network, the usb modem cannot be connected to mobile and wifi so it simply shuts the connection down .So ad hoc simply does not work.
So instead i'm trying to share my internet connection through my Netgear router. I read around the net that in order to do this DHCP needs to be disabled on the router. So i disabled it. Now the xbox will not connect to the netgear router, it cannot get an ip address because DHCP is turned off. I looked around the net and all the information is conflicting. No matter what i cannot get an ip number from the router to the xbox. DHCP needs to be off for ICS to function, but i get no further than "cannot get ip address". The xbox is connected to the netgear, it sees the netgear fine, but will not get an ip.How can i get my xbox to get an ip from the router with DHCP turned off ?.

Which ever machine got online first got the open nat type. i've tried DMZ host with port forwarding for both machines to no success. Aug 30, 2011My friend has had constant issues with his wireless network using his dated Linksys router. So he finally decided to upgrade to the Netgear N750. It's a dual band router that simultaneously broadcasts 2.4 and 5 GHz bands. He setup the 2.4 band for the laptops and mobile devices to access, and the 5 band just for gaming on his xbox 360 Slim. He immediately ran into a problem. The 360 slim's built-in wireless card only picks up 2.4 GHz frequencies. To remedy this, he purchased Microsoft's xbox 360 wireless-N adapter as it can pick up 5 GHz frequencies. However, there was no change after plugging the adapter into the 360 slim. His HP laptop can see the 5 GHz network just fine, so we know it's being broadcast. Could it be the xbox is out of range of the 5 GHz band? Is the adapter not functioning properly with the 360 slim?

I have noticed that it only does it to the xbox, computers and laptops are working great. I also noticed that, 5 or 10 sec. before the router goes out. The firewalls indicator lights all light-up at the same time. Then it resets and the connection restores itself. It happens mostly when using Netflix through the xbox. I have tried port forwarding but it seemed like it made it worst.
