Use Pc's Internet Connection To Serve A Wireless Router?
Sep 2, 2011
I am trying to use my pc's internet connection that I am getting from a cricket wireless device to go to a linksys wrt54g router. I believe it should be possible to enable ICS and hook up a cable from the nic on the pc to the wan port on the router but have not been able to get it to work so far.
I want to put a second router on the inside of my (new, soon-to-be-installed) VDSL router supplied by my ISP. Reading the E1200 manual I believe that I can use the "Internet" socket to connect to one of the four sockets on the wired part of my ISP's router, and give it a fixed IP address which matches the network defined on the ISP router.
For example use 192.168.0.0/24 for the network between the ISP router and the E1200, and then configure the E1200 to serve out addresses in 192.168.2.0/24 (say).I don't want to buy the E1200 and then find it won't do what I want.
I have a SMC Gateway Router and 2 computers connected to it with RJ-45 cable. They are (1 iMac + 1 PC) 150 feet apart both computers are wired to the router. I also have a Canon Pixma MP 560 Multifunction Inkjet printer that has the capability to be connected both wired and wireless. Right now it is only connected to the iMac via a USB connection as all 3 (router, iMac and printer) are on the same workstation.how to connect the printer so it could also support the 2nd computer a Windows PC which is located on the floor below. Can I do that through the wired router too? If not possible, I also have the capability to connect wirelessly although I would prefer to use the wired connnections. The PC has a Belkin USB 2.0 Network Adapter for wireless connection; both SMC Router and Belkin USB adapter are 902.11 N capable.

I have a F5D7231-4 router and I would like to know:
1) if it can serve as network extension (wifi)? from main wifi router 2) if I can setup a local network getting ip from my iphone, then using DHCP to have on same network my ipad, and a printer?
When I connect my Android device (Nook) via the HotSpot "Local Area Connection" it has a strong signal, but for some reason cannot load any https webpages, such as gmail.com. It always says "web page not available" when I know the sites are working. Previously it connected without any problems but now only non-secure websites are accessible; I don't know what has caused the change.
My device connects with no such problem via the larger wireless network here (security is WEP), but the signal is weak so I prefer to use the HopSpot connection.
I have a XPS with HotSpot 1.1.0.0. The device says it is connected to HotSpot with WPA/WPA2 PSK.
I just purchased a Vizio Dual-Band HD wireless internet router, completed the steps on the quick start guide and I can get internet connection using my desktop but I cannot get internet connection using my MacBook. I went to [url]... and in the top right corner, it says "Offline" on the router. How do I make it say "Online"?
my router has intermet but i cannot get a connection to my computerbut its not just my computer my bfs computer our PlayStation nothing can connect to it right now i tried going in network and settings and diagnosing it and i tried unplugging the motem amd all the wires nothing is working. Two of the lights on the motem are green one is orange the wirless is lighting up blue. This is not the first time either....it came back after a while last time but now its not.
My main Internet connection is a frontier modem /router It is on the main level of the house. In the basement I am trying to set up the cisco E3000 through an Ethernet cable.
I want to share my wireless connection witch is coming from distant internet provider, to my desktop computer with wireless adapter. I have tplink wireless router witch is connected trough wan port to my lan network card also in desktop computer. So is there something wrong with this setting because i can not properly finish wireless router auto configuration wizard, it always return my error.
normally insert the D-link CD in my computer and then follow the steps. this time in the step that all connectivity was being checked the message appeared that one of the cables (ethernet or the other one) is not connected whereas I am quite sure that they are properly connected and nothing at least as far as I know is wrong.after several times, I could connect to the wirelss connection but actually there was no internetwhen I also tried with cable directly from wall jack to my computer it was also the same case.
I have a wireless router which is connect to a DSL modem. Everything was working fine but now the wireless router looses connection often and if i remove the RJ45 check from my wireless router and plug it in after few minutes it works but again it looses connection.
We have highspeed internet that comes in at our house, but we want internet in our shop. We have a wireless dongle outside of the building and it picks up the signal for the main computer from the main wireless router. Because it is a metal building we cannot get a wireless signal inside the building otherwise. I want to hook a wireless router up to the computer in the shop, share the internet connection, and broadcast the signal throughout the shop so I can use wireless in the shop.
I bought a Prolink Wireless Router WGR1004 and I have problem connecting it with internet. My windows able to detect and connect to the Wireless connection but the internet browser cannot display any webpage. I have a Linksys WB300 ADSL Modem when wired to my pc it pings IP 192.168.1.3 , default gateway 192.168.1.1 My connection to Wireless pings IP 192.168.1.2, default gateway 192.168.1.1ADSL phone cable connected to my modem and Ethernet cable linked from Modem to Internet Port of Wireless router. Settings in Network Connections=>properties=>TCP/IP=>Obtain an IP address automatically and obtain DNS Server address automatically. Web browser connections settings=>Internet Options=>Lan settings=>Automatic detect settingsRouter Configuration=>Lan IP address is 192.168.1.254 Internet IP address is 192.168.1.2, Security and SSID are working properly. The problem is my web browser cannot display webpage.
Just moved into apartment in Ann Arbor and am forced to use this ISP. They are not wireless friendly. Their manual sucks and will only provide tech support for $80/hour. I bought a Belkin router and got it working for my MacBook. BUT my roommate can't connect, even tho her MacBook sees the network. And I can't print to my wireless printer even tho it says everything is fine when I run the wireless diagnostics. The ISP has these rules:
- Only connect the router to the Internet or Wan port. Do not connect to the numbered ports (how do I know whether or not I've done that?) - Do not use static IP addresses - Do not run a DHCP server
I recently had to unplug my Linksys WRT54GL wireless router when doing some rearranging and now i'm unable to get a internet connection. I've confirmed the modem is actually working by connecting my laptop directly (which worked), but when I connect the Linksys WRT54GL wireless router to my modem the internet connection goes away. The connection is lost when connected via wireless and hardwired to one of the back ports. I've tried resetting the modem, router and computer and read every forum out there trying to find something, but i'm still stuck.
We have Comast internet using an Arris modem and have a Netgear wireless router. We have our modem hooked up to a desktop computer that we don't even use. We have three laptops that we us with our wireless.Comcast has told us that we have to have the modem hooked up to the desktop for the internet to work.what do people do who have only a laptop and have wireless internet in their house? Is there anyway to get rid of the desktop and have the modem hooked directly to the cable and router?
I have 3 computers running Windows-7. One computer is directly attached with wired connection to broadband internet modem and other 2 computers are attached through a Wireless router attached to modem. The problem is this that both wireless computers are running internet well while the directly connected computer shows internet connection but no data flow happens. When the Wireless router is turned off the directly connected computer starts working internet.
My wireless connection keeps connecting and dis connecting. My computer says our wirless network is available but after connecting it randomly disconnects and reconnects over and over.
I had recently purchased the E1200 router. For some reason, my internet keeps going in and out of service. I will be playing an online game but get disconnected from the server every 6-8 seconds. I tested if it could be my internet provider, but when I connect via Ethernet cord to my modem, it works great. If I run the Ethernet through my router or try wireless connections, it tends to go in and out. It only seems to do this some of the times.
I have a WRT310N router and suddenly it stopped connecting to the Internet. I can't ping anything from the router page. I tried restarting it a few times, unplugged it, left it off for a few minutes, plugged it back in, upgraded the firmware, still not working. I tried another router and it works fine. When connected directly to the modem, it works fine, so the problem has to come from the router.
I can connect to the router through wired or wireless just fine, I just can't access the internet.
I have my e4200 connected to another modem/router (2Wire 3600HGV), because the other router does not support Wireless N. I can connect to my E4200 network, but there's just no connection to the internet. I reseted my e4200 but still no luck. I've unplugged both routers and replugged them, nothing. I know it's possible because I've had it set up before but I had my 2Wire exchanged for a newer one.
Firmware: 1.00.4
Just to be sure. I have the cable going from my modem out of port #1 and into my e4200 where it says internet, thats correct, right? On my e4200 i have the IP 192.168.1.2 but on the 2Wire I have the e4200 as 1.92.168.1.66.
I have 1 Windows XP PC, and 2 Windows 7 laptops. And I'm also going to connect a new TV to Internet.I have the router WRT54GX2 version 1.sometimes the XP PC has a good internet connection, but on the Windows 7 laptop, I don't have the internet connection. And if I look at the list of the Wireless Network connections, I don't see mine!So can I do something on the router to fix this problem? Or should I buy a new router which can work well with 3 PCs (with Windows 7) and 1 TV connected at the same time?
I have a E1500 hooked to a Galaxy Broadband/Hughes Satellite internet system. From the router I have gone to a EZXS55W ver. 4 switch. Off of the switch I have 2 computers and a PoS machine. The satellite system gives us a dynamic IP. I am noticing that my connection from computer to computer and also from them and the POS machine to the internet is constantly switching on and off, it seems. Any ideas what could be causing this issue?? We just recently went from a Static IP to the Dynamic IP. We did not have this issue with the Static IP and wondering if there are some settings I have neglected.
I recently bought the ea6500 router to upgrade from my last one. For the first few weeks, it worked ok though the wireless range often became unreliable if doors were shut. The biggest problem I'm having right now is that the internet has completely stopped working - both wired and wireless. I have hooked my laptop directly into my modem, and it has a good internet connection. However, when I plug my laptop into the router, I get no internet connection at all, and it is not currently producing a Wi-Fi signal at all. Instead, the power light keeps blinking rapidly. I have tried rebooting the modem and router several times and still no internet. Just the same blinking light. I can't even log into the smart wifi page to check the status of the router. My computer tells me there is no IP address for the router.
We have WRT320N (Model No.) and when I moved i notice that my wirelss network does not have internet connection. Even after I hook everything up it doesn't work, my computer does not recognize the network but the laptop does. I have prior knowledge about computers and the internet but I don't know why I am having a problem. Is it because I moved and the data in my previous home does not match the data here?
I had to reload my wireless after having problems with internet connection......now it tells me that there is no connection found. I have a 2008 Linksys. I have tried everything from unplugging to reseting and dowloading the program again.
Im not able to conect to the internet threw my router, but i am able to with my modem. i dont want to pay for a new one and Cisco wants me to pay $30 for phone support.
specs: linksys router wrt160n v3, verizon modem gt701c, windows xp service pack 3, verizon DSL, southern california.I have been able to connect to the internet directly through the modem only...but i need my wireless back working. I've reset my router a few times recently trying things i've read on forums from people with similar problems. The most recent thing i did was RESET the router -> connected modem/router/computer properly -> turned them all back on in the proper order -> check to see if websites would open. They didn't so i tried doing this, which was suggested...i plugged the router into the computer and enabled MAC address and then pressed the Clone MAC address button and saved....then I tturned everything off again and rebooted everything again in the proper order and still couldn't load any web pages. Here are my IPCONFIG/ALL read outs for both when i'm hooked up with the router & modem (which isnt working) and directly to the modem (which is working) this is the one with the router & modem:
C:Documents and SettingsOwner>ipconfig/all Windows IP Configuration Host Name . . . . . . . . . . . . : shakas Primary Dns Suffix . . . . . . . : Node Type . . . . . . . . . . . . : Unknown
[code]....
My modem and wireless were working fine for years...and then recently without me doing anything my modem kept dropping connection and the internet and dsl lights kept flashing and then going back solid....so i'd be connected for a few minutes and then they'd start flashing again over and over all the time. I finally called verizon and then had me fiddle around with stuff...followed all their directions...but ended up only being able to connect while directly connected to the modem. Even then, the modem was still losing connection and getting it back. (i was supposed to schedule a house call for a tech to check it out, never did) Over a couple weeks the connection ended up getting better on its own, so now it pretty much never drops out anymore. (almost) i've reset my modem, i've reset my router....i just still cant seem to get websites working with my modem and wireless router connected.
Both routers are set to provide DHCP.DSL modem: Verizon Westell Wirespeed B90-210015-04 I have no idea whether this modem is also a router, but everything used to work. OS: Windows 7 Professional N x64, SP1 My computer has two ethernet ports, but only one is in use at a time. I also have VMWare Workstation installed, so there are a couple virtual adapters in the mix, but VMWare is not running during any of these tests.Yesterday (Sat, 10-Mar-2012) I replaced my old router (A) with the new one (B). The A router has been working fine for many years; I just needed wireless access. After the initial setup, the B router worked fine, using hard lines connected to the switch ports, and the wireless access features (laptop and Android phone) - for about a day. It suddenly dropped the internet connection early this afternoon, Sun, 11-Mar-2012, ~1220hrs PDT. I heard it go out because I was streaming NPR at the time.Using the B router, my desktop computer (connected via a wire) can still talk to my laptop (wireless), but neither of them can see the internet. When I swap back to the A router (wires only), it now has no internet connection either! But the desktop and the laptop (both wired) can still see each other via the (wired) router. When I remove the router from the network and connect the DSL modem directly to my desktop computer, I have internet access; it works fine! But not if a router is in the circuit.
(1) Router B seems to work because my wired desktop and my wireless laptop can communicate locally.
(2) Router A still works because my desktop and laptop can communicate with each other using a wired network hosted by the A router.
(3) The DSL modem seems to work because my desktop has internet access when connected directly to the modem.
(4) Neither of the routers can communicate with the internet through the DSL modem.
I spent an hour in a chat with Verizon tech support. I've power-cycled everything. I've reset both routers to default specs and reconfigured them. I've reset the DSL modem via its button. I've used different cables. It appears that neither of the routers can successfully communicate through the DSL modem to the internet. But they both used to. Why would it just suddenly stop connecting through the modem?
Scenarios: computer <-> DSL modem <-> internet | works! computer <-> either router <-> DSL modem <X> internet | NoGo desktop <-> either router <-> laptop | ping OK
ipconfig /all results when connected directly to the DSL modem (internet connected):
I just added a wireless router netgear wgr614 and I secured it and it worked for one day and then after that no internet connection. I've rest and unplugged both the modem and the router and still nothing.
