Aliasing Two Names To One Computer Under Same Network
Nov 15, 2012
I have an old network with 5 computers, now one of them is damaged and i copied the file into another computer.2 computers are set to save files in a database which were in the damaged computer.how can I give to one computer two names ? - i cant change the source program to read the database from other computer..The program searches for \computer_namedatabasedatabase file.mdb (I dont want to change the the computer name because other computers search for him under the other name.
just bought the EA4500 new, setup the router with computer plug-in RJ45, after I change my network network to "LinksysOne", I can connect to the network wireless. But when I connect it with hard wire/RJ45, it shows "cisco27205", but I cannot see "cisco27205" with wifi, neither with RJ45 connection cannot see "LinksysOne". Why this happen? is this normal?
Anyway, I am looking for a way to discover host names of Apple devices (namely iPods and iPhones) that are on our network. I've tried a number of programs like Nmap, Advanced IP Scanner, and LanSpy to name a few. All of them will report back the MAC address with no problem but no dice on resolving the host name.
My goal is to use the host name to identify the device, and ultimately the person with the device. Any thoughts on how I can go about this? Is there a setting in Nmap I'm missing or perhaps a better program to use?
I have a Linksys E2500 router. Is it possible to have one network name for the secured network and a different network name for the Guest network? The thought is to not have the SSID of the secured network broadcast while allowing the SSID of the Guest network to be broadcast. With the convention of simply adding "Guest" to the end of the SSID for the secured network, it defeats the security option of not having the SSID of the secured network broadcast.
I am able to connect to corporate VPN with no issues when connecting directly to ISP modem. When I try to complete the same VPN connection via a Wireless Router (Linksys WRT160Nv3) i get the following message: "Network error. Unable to look up host names"I have tried connecting and it will initially connect, but 15-30 seconds it will drop and connection can't be re-established.Is there a setting on the Linksys WRT160Nv3 that needs to be changed?
I just setup my EA3500 router and both SSID's are the same.Is this ok or should I give them unique names?Since they are the same what are my products connecting to?If I do separate them, what item should connect to what network?
Just planning my move to 8.4(2) and I'm looking for some input. In the past, I have a text file with name commands for every host on my network that I know about. I would then deploy this list to all ASAs so that I could create ACLs on any firewall using a name, which would correlate to the same IP on any firewall. Now, the names from the name command no longer work as a host entry in ACLs, therefore I'm required to switch all of my active name command entries over to objects. My question is, have any of you found an easy way to change all name commands to objects? Since the name command doesn't specify the mask of the entry, I think this may not be possible without manually updating thousands of records. I know that once I migrate, there will be some objects auto-created, but those will only be host and or networks which have NATs associated with them.
Is it possible to give me NAS and Xbox 360 Host names so that they show up in my DHCP Client list? Currently there are 13 devices connected, 11 of which have a host name but these two do not. It also shows the IP and MAC addresses of each connected device.I just want to make sure that all of the devices that are connected are what I would expect.
I have been asked to do is locate some computers on the network and run a security scan on them. Well i pinged the host name and got an IP address. Then the network admin me look up the switch port that the computer is located on and so on. So i find 3 of the computers im looking for and when i get on the computer and look up the name but it does not match the name given to me. So i do an ipconfig /all and see that the computer has the right IP address and MAC address but not the same name. So my main question is, are these computers one in the same or is something messed up?
where the host names do not properly resolve with the right ip address.Example, I ping a host name, it gives me an IP, but when I VNC into the workstation, it is a totally different host.
I can find ip address of any website from domains by using simple command [URL] in command prompt.I wonder how I can find the domain names from ip addresses. For e.g. I would like to know the domain names of ip - 207.232.22.200
I have an issue with LMS 4.1 where the DCR names of several devices repeatedly revert to the IP address. I am trying to stage some devices for deployment. The initial 5 devices were staged and are now off-line. A subsequent set of 6 devices is on-line and accessible from LMS4.1. The device names on the off-line devices are stable. The device names of the on-line devices revert back to an IP address every day. From device management, I go in and change the display name and the host name from the IP address to an alphabetic host name. When I go back and look at it the next day, it has reverted to the IP address.
Here are two traceroutes both to 82.195.128.132. One results in the name ns1.hosting 365.ie and the other in the name mail.hosting365.ie. Why the difference? [code]
I have issues with the same host name duplication in different VLAN's in the same domain.Scenario:I have 2 VLAN's named VLAN A and VLAN B.If i assign in VLAN A for one of the computer name as Comp1 it's not in the network so its accepting.in dns will be replaced with VLAN B and if i ping i can see the ip also from VLAN B.
I have cisco's CUCM version System version: 7.1.5.10000-12 when I do a corporate lookup (form my 7970 I hit Directories - 5) Corporate Directory) I see all sort of accounts that have no phone extensions I.E. our windows service accounts, our administrator accounts that have no number associated with them. is there a way for me to hide them?
I was thrown into trying to fix a friends pc being told that the internet wasn't working. What I've found through some messing around is that I am able to pull up websites with the ip address but trying to use the domain name give a "Host Not Found". Similar error when trying to do a ping. However doing an nslookup will pull the ip's for a domain. I've done the dns flush, the netsh commands that are floating around to no avail.
1. I have a DSL modem + wireless + router 2. I have a Vonage phone that taps into one of the LAN ports 3. I have DIR 655 router that taps into one of the LAN ports 4. I have NAS that taps into one of the DIR 655 LAN ports 5. I have Printer that taps into one of the DIR 655 LAN ports 6. I have a BD Player that connects to DIR 655 through wireless.
All my components that are tied to DIR-655 resolve through IP address. I would like to have the resolution through host name as it works with my first router (DSL Modem / Router). Identifying components with IP address is not only inconvinient in terms of reading / recognizing my components but ther could be other issues. I am not very techie on the networking side but I do have some basic knowledge.
I'm using MAC address filtering on my network, and have no problem adding new devices as and when we purchase them. However, a lot of these items such as smart phones with wi-fi, Kindles etc don't seem to have a name that identifies them on the device info page. All of our laptops and desktops are identified, but none of the phones etc. Is it possible to assign names to MAC addresses at all?
Is it possible somehow to define externally administred DNS namese in ASA 8.4 in within object groups?i know that we can use name XXX, but some idea popped up using this kind of configuration.
In asus router model rt-n10, there is a client list when you bring up 192.168.1.1 showing names of devices also mac addresses and ip addresses. How do I add names to the list so I know which devices are using what ip etc. I have tried the advanced settings in the router to see if I can do it this way , but no luck.
Redirecting a Domain to a IP:Port I host game servers for friends and strangers alike, but i'd like to make it easier for them all and give them dedicated IPs. Right now I include domain redirecting, but to connect to their server, they have to put in "example.com:xxxxx", x meaning their servers dedicated port. Is there any way that I can redirect a domain directly to "IP:Port"?
I want to access server with different account names at times. After google search, I found that it is something related to "net use drive: /delete" but we usually access different drives so I wonder how to cancel all the drives and what is the exact command.
How to configure ASA 5520 to resolve names in ASA's. We are currently using ASDM to configure network objects with the hostnames in the internet and then specifying the IP address . But this is done manually. Is there a different way of setting it up on ASA. Also when getting reports from ASA, we see the IP's but is there a way that we could add an identity to the IP's (reverse lookup)
I've just installed a RV042G router for the first time. The computers connect to the internet just fine, but they can no longer see each other through the Windows workgroup. I can ping the router, but not other computers on the net. The router doesn't seem to be sharing the names of the other computers on the net.
I'm not sure if this is a recent issue for our setup, but I've only just noticed it. Although most authenticated users are shown by their correct user names (which are required for 802.1x authentication), a few users show up in the WCS reports as "anonymous", and one as "anonymous@myabc.com", which are not valid usernames on our network.
I can track these users by MAC via our network registration database, but have not yet figured what makes their systems unique. All three in yesterday's report are Win 7. I don't see anything strange in the RADIUS logs, but have not yet caputured "debug" traces of wireless authentication from an anonymous user.
We are running WCS 7.0.172.0 , with a pair of WLC 4402 controllers running 7.0.116.0 . Our WPA2 Enterprise auth uses TTLS/PAP, with the SecureW2 supplicant for Windows.
How can I tell the names of the devices that are connected to my E2000 router? Cisco connect says I have 4 devices connected but I only have 3. I am trying to figure out where the 4th device is coming from.
I see that if I ask for 887va-sec-k9 I get an 887va with "advanced ip services" instead of the default "advanced security".
I can't see a corresponding part number for an 887va-w with advanced ip services. Is there one? Also, what would the part number be for memory to expand a va-w up to the max possible memory?
At a guess it would be the same part used to upgrade an 887va from 256 to 768, but since the part to upgrade from 256 to 512 is not the same as the part to upgrade from 512 to 768 I am not sure this is a safe guess.
So whenever i plug in my computers with an ethernet cord to my router i get an older, different ssid name displayed in local area connections instead of the one being displayed on the wireless network. For one computer it displays the old ssid name 3011, with a 2 right next to it (i think thats because i had another router with the same name), i changed the ssid twice, but when i plug it into the computer it still displays 3011 2. The other computer displays the first newer ssid but not the official one listed on the wireless network. Either way neither of my computers display the name i have as the ssid when plugged into the router with a cord. do i need to do something else so the names match? i reset the router and updated the firmware before writing this, it didnt do anything. i have windows 7 business for both machines.
I have a 2911 router inside our network with both DHCP and DNS enabled. Everything works fine except since we use this router we are not being able to go to the network neighbourhood in Windows and look up machines by name (or typing \diskstation for example). Connecting by IP works fine but not by local machine names.
I started by creating a VPN - everything worked great. I assigned the DNS Servers, Domain name, WINS Server so when I connect I'm able to resolve local hostnames on the network with no problem, however, I had no internet access... I then set up a split tunnel access list. Since I've set that up, I'm now able to ping internet based addresses url... but no longer able to resolve internal host names. I can ping the ip addresses, just name resolution no longer works. [code]
