May 29, 2012The Ethernet Cable in the Control Panels are Cat 5 or 5E. where as The ethernet cable from the PLC to the Control cabinet is Cat 6/6E. Is it Ok to patch to connect them in series?

However when my AP gets to 200 it rejects further clients with the following log: [code] I see this exact message many times and each time the radio mac address is the same and the number of clients connected is 199. The same mac address is used for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz so does this AP have a single logical radio covering both 2.4 and 5ghz frequency ranges and is the limit for all connected clients 200?When viewing the AP details under the Wireless tab it only lists one mac address for each AP for both 2.4ghz and 5ghz frequencies.

Jan 30, 2013I have a Cisco 887M router which I wish to restrict the devices allowed to be connected/allocated an IP address to two, and *only* two.
I can't, for the life of me, find out how to allow these two devices to connect to ANY port - I can configure a MAC restriction on a single port, but I don't know how to make it so that I can allow JUST these two devices to connect to any port in the 4 port switch/VLAN (VLAN 1 is used because the mongrel who set this up was lazy). I know the MAC addresses I want to allow
How I can do this? I *can* restrict any given port to the two MAC addresses - but if I try to add the MAC addresses to another port, they get removed from the initial one. I need to be able to have them connect to ANY port and work, but allow NOTHING else to work.
For those wondering, this is to counter a user who is utilising company resources for purposes not approved - and costing us quite a bit of money in the process.

Mar 12, 2011I have CAT5e running through out the house. They all start at a 4x10 telecom punchdown module and end with non standard jacks. When I unscrewed a few wallplates, only the orange, white orange, blue, white blue are connected. The greens and browns are snipped off. I don't much care if I have a telephone or not (my cell phone is my only phone), I'm thinking of pulling all the cat5e off the module and attaching RJ45 plugs on them. Seeing that only the wires I mentioned above are connected at the wallplates, do I need to terminate all the wires on the RJ45 plug or only those four?I'm not planning on going up to a 1gb connection right now because I only have 20mb service anyways. Also, will I still received data only using those four wires?

So just wondering if it will be worth going for cat6 for a future reference if you will, ideally if products ever advance to support it. Just that I don't fancy digging up the cable in a year or so.
Of course I'd rather go for cat5e but wouldn't mind adding a bit to the budget if it's worth it?
Also does anyone know if it's any more difficult to fit the connecters to cat6e? Are they just the same as rj45?

Sep 5, 2012Our house has a cat5 line that runs from downstairs, around the outside of the house to an upstairs office. We are consolidating all the outlets that are randomly spread around the walls. The cat5 cable is about 6 inches too short to reach the new box so we figured we might as well run a new cat6 line. (I think we can make the run 20 feet shorter so that's a bonus.)The cat5 line has 2 jacks wired in series at either end. Everything I've read says cat6 is much more touchy and you should only expose the minimal amount of wire from the sheathing and don't untwist the pairs more than necessary. Can I put two jacks on each end of the cat6?
