I have connected my Netgear ReadyNAS storage to my laptops via a netgear unmanaged switch. I can access the NAS on one of the laptops via the network however on the other one I can only access it via the IP address and not via the network. Both laptops are Vista.

I am working on a small business network. 8-10 computers, usually only 3-4 being used at any one time. I'm trying to improve network file transfer speeds between the local machines and a network READYNAS NV+. There are both 32 and 64 bit OS's in play. Between the READYNAS and the local machines are two non-managed switches (jumbo frames capable) and a patch panel. The cable from the READYNAS goes into the first switch, then out of that into the patch panel then into the second switch, and then out to several local machines.
Though i would love to improve performance to all the local machines, I am primarily concerned with one in particular. It has Windows 7 64 bit and an onboard Broadcom Netlink Gigabit network adapter. This device does NOT have a Jumbo frames option in the advanced settings. Here's the issue: When copying files from the READYNAS the upload speed is only 16mbps (jumbo frames enabled on the READYNAS) if I turn jumbo frames off on the READYNAS the upload speed drops to 9mbps. Just FYI, this is a photography studio and the files are always LARGE.
I have several questions that hopefully will lead to an illuminating discussion. 1) Is it possible that the universal patch is in any way a problem? Sorry if that is totally stupid, but I've never encountered one before. I understand routers and switches, but this patch thing is new to my experience. 2) Is having two switches a bottleneck? 3) Is it possible that the onboard Broadcom network adapter is junk? Why doesn't it have jumbo frames options? 4) Could I get better performance from an add on network card in a PCI-E slot and a couple of managed switches?I realize I'm all over the map here. Bottom line, I've got a small network situation here. Very simple, uncomplicated layout. All I want is better read/write performance to a single READYNAS NV+ to a handful of local machines. If I need to settle, I can live with better performance to the one single machine. 16mbps just seems tragically slow.
I seem to be struggling to connect more than 4 cameras to my (ISP-supplied) modem/router by Netgear CGD24N via WPS. I'm on my 5th camera now (already have 3x 930L and 1x 942L) but the newest 942L just won't connect to the network at the moment and there's definitely no faults here as I swapped cameras today at the local retailer (and got an A3 942L!).I've even tried connecting the camera to my wireless extender (Netgear WN3000RP) but no luck there.
So far it has only worked twice for short periods of time (enough for me to configure the cameras) but since then I can't actually get it working. I've got a couple of spare wireless routers lying around too and should be receiving a DIR-600 soon (from the Netgear promotion in Australia) which could be useful?
I have just got an acer aspire ethos 8951g.I have several laptops at home all connected to the n network on a netgear dgn3300 dualband router.The problem i'm having is my new acer won't discover the n network only the g side of the router.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a home network with a Netgear N600 as my main router. I have a wirelesss HP printer that accesses fine as does Iphones and Ipad. Then I have hard wires. Off of the main router I have 3 Netgear 5 port switches. 1 switch with a line to bedroom tv and a line to family room tv. 1 Switch at family room TV which goes to Blu Ray, Direct Tv, and Xbox360. 1 switch at bedroom for Blu Ray and Direct TV. Believe it or not, this all worked. I tried to hook up a ZmodoH264 security system (the ones with four cameras, and a separate hard drive and monitor for viewing). I used one of the 4 inputs on the main Netgear router for this, and it seemed to be recognized. But, I can't access the security system mobilly, AND all my network addresses seem to have been screwed as Directv isn't working (Whole Home) and the printer stopped being recognized. However, Blu Rays are still fine. Is there a way with ipconfig to list all of my hard wired nodes? I assume wireless dont show up in a list.

We have 10 desktops, 3 laptops (sometimes more) 4 printers/fax, etc.etc. I have just ordered a new HP Pavilion Slim-line S5000 Series with Windows 7 Pro. I cannot get it to connect to the Network. I have set up the server (which runs windows server 2008) with an account called "communications" I have named the computer "communications". I go to the system and security>system: computer name,domain, workgroup settings>change settings. I enter all the information correctly, and it tells me it cannont find the network path. This is happening on this brand new computer, and our old dell optiplex 760 (running windows vista pro). We use a netgear pro-safe 24 port 10/100 switch hub, and a linksys wireless G broadband router model WRT54GS.

Now the problem is that i can't see my vista laptop on my XP, but both are connected to the same router (Netgear DG2200). The router also has a hard drive connected as a network drive WHICH i can see on the XP.
Problem is, nothing comes up on the Vista laptop except for the router and itself. Not even the network hard drive. I can view it on my PS3, though.
I noticed my lan is not enabled on my laptop, so how do i enable it? I tried diagnosing but it said to connect the lan cable.
Two desktop computers with windows 7 home premium.Router: Netgear WNR2000v2 (which is NOT IPv6 compliant).External HD: 2TB Fantom.I have the external HD connected to one of the desktops via USB. I'd like to use it to back up the second computer to this HD.How do I get the second computer to recognize this as a backup target?Incidentally I've had problems getting HomeGroup setup since IPv6 is required for HomeGroup. I assume the problems are because the router isn't IPv6 compliant. I've tried the Microsoft Fixit 50410 (Use IPv4 instead of IPv6 in prefix policies. My router and connection work no problem, until I try to update my video card drivers or even my tablet drivers. Once I install those drivers, The next boot up my computer has no internet connection, and it says the network driver has failed. I can't seem to recover internet connection until I do a system restore, then all is well. My netgear WGR614v10 is up to date, on factory settings.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a Pre-existing repeating netgear network of a WNR2200 router set up as a base station with a harddrive plugged into it as a network device (readyshare) and another WNR2200 router set up as a repeater.
I want to supply this network using Huawei B260a modem (on the Three network).
I currently have this setup; The b260a IP is 10.0.0.1 subnet 225.225.225.0 and has DHCP turned on (range 10.0.0.100 - 10.0.0.200). This is plugged into the internet lan port of the base station wnr2200. The base station IP is 192.168.1.1 subnet 225.225.225.0 and has DHCP turned on (range 192.168.1.2 - 192.168.1.254) The repeater Wnr2200 is automatically an access point and has an IP of 192.168.1.254
This setup works but the speeds are around 1-2mb slower when connected to the netgear network than if connected directly to the B260a.
Now my problem refers to the game Minecraft specifically, but I believe it has more to do with the router than the game, so that's why I am posting on here. To let people connect to your Minecraft server, you need to set a static IP and forward the port 25565. I have followed all of the tutorials for that on this site to the letter, and yet all I can do is make people in my network able to connect. Now before you say this has nothing to do with you guys, I also want to point out that the port checker tool says that port is closed, on both UDP and TCP. For some reason following these guides only opens my port to the network that connects through the router, either wirelessly or wired. So therefore any port checking tools or sites say that it is closed. I have checked my firewalls, turned them off, uninstalled them and that doesn't work. And no, people can't connect through the network unless I forward the ports, so I am actually doing something when I try to forward them. I am running Windows Vista x64-bit
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am running XP Professional 32 bit SP3 on a Dell workstation.I am in a serviced office with internet connection via single ethernet port. This is set up as a VLAN for which I have 4 assigned IP addresses.I am using a Netgear GS605v4 switch to create a small network on my side of the port. Hooked to this is the workstation, the mybook live, and a laptop.All 3 connected components are assigned their IP addresses by DHCP. Both the workstation and the laptop can see the internet without difficulty. The networking of the components is another matter. Focusing on the workstation for the moment:On the workstation, I can ping the mybook. I have always been able to see its upnp logo in My Network Places, and double clicking always takes me to the web browser based dashboard where I can set up the device. I was initially able to see the public folder in My Network Places too, and could map a drive to this in an Explorer window. Typically after some time, the mapping would be lost (even without re-booting the machine), but I would be able to delete the connection and re-map it. After several attempts at this I could no longer map the drive or see the public folder in My Network Places anymore. After much internet searching and playing with lots of the suggested fixes (checking all required services available, matching user names between XP and the drive, playing with 'net view' etc) I was finally able to see and map the public folder yesterday by playing with the 'enable netbios' function in network connections (currently set to 'enable' from 'default' though this had not made any difference previously). I could see the drive in 'net view' though no master browser was listed, and once again map to the public folder, and access files on it.On turning on the workstation this morning I find that the mapping has again been lost. This time net view is back to reporting a system 53 error. I can ping the drive and use the dashboard, and I can see the public folder in My Network Places, but clicking it or mapping to it results in the usual 'network path not found' errors. The laptop is running Windows 7 and has not lost its mapping overnight, and can still access the public files.

I look down below and try to connect to the network again but it no longer shows my network anymore. I went into the room of my router and it looked fine. All lights were lit up like they should be. I turned on my Laptop to see if it was just a problem with my desktop but it's still not showing my network either.
I have restarted my router and reset it numerous times and it has still yet to show my network. It only seems to work if I connect it to my Laptop with an Ethernet cord. My laptop does not recognize wireless OR the LAN anymore. IT says "Unidentified Network" My laptop connects to the network but the network doesn't connect to the internet. I have a 1Gb network set up whereby I have a Netgear 26 Port 1000Mbps unmanaged network switch at the heart of my home network. What I have the problem with is devices connected on any one of my 3 300Mbps access points drop out showing no internet but they really mean no network access unless i disconnect and reconnect or switch to another access point. Other things I get happening is one min i have a transfer speed wired connection to wired connection of 35Mb per second and then I only have 8 or less. I am wondering if I have cable issues but before I went out and spent about �100 on new belkin cat6 cable I would ask if there is software I can use to test all the devices on the network so I can replace the faulty item.

Now i would like to know if there is a way i can block torrent downloads on the network or the router itself. The options in the router have QoS but nothing to actually limit torrents or control bandwidth.I have looked at using dd-wrt, as i think you can block torrents on that, but my model doesnt seem to be supported. There was another custom firmware called ModFs but im not sure what thats like.

Each computer stores files independently, there is peer-to-peer wireless sharing (through the OS) but no true central file sharing.Our existing network situation is: We have O2 Broadband but don't use the O2 equipment. We use a Netgear ADSL2+ modem (delivering 5/6-7meg) connected to a Time Capsule that offers us home backup for our Mac computers and also acts as our wireless router. We broadcast in dual-band 802.11b/g and 802.11n simultaneously (as there are a range of systems that need different bands). We then use 2 Apple AirPort Express access points around the house to extend and amplify the signal - although these can sometimes be temperamental.

I would ideally like the router to appear as the only device on the larger network and all data to be sorted by the router to the clients in the private network.
Will the Netgear FVS318G be able to do that? It seems to have the necessary NAT options. I'm hoping to use this since it's low profile. Many to one NAT should accomplish this, correct? The larger network should only be able to see the one device and not the clients behind it on the private network?
I am running an i7 MSI gt683 with windows 7 with an Intel Centrino Wirelss-N 130. My home wifi connection runs off of comcast on a netgear router, and the wireless connection works on every single device in the house except for my laptop. I can run my ps3, my wii, we have an ipad, all our phones can connect and we have another laptop that connects with no issue. I have updated my drivers for my wireless card to the latest, flushed the ip on my desktop that the modem is connect to a dozen times. The only way to sometimes fix it is to manually log in to my router and release/renew the ip address from there. Sometimes it will work, sometimes it won't. When it does work, it will work for about a week and then stop working for no reason at random times.The errors I keep getting are:Identifying network (which runs infinitely before cycling back to no internet connection)Connected with no internet access.

Windows 7 Desktop getting internet through the MBP ethernet.
I can't figure out how to be a part of my "Home Network" with my Win7 Machine so I can see other computers in my house, use my networked printers, etc. I can only see the MBP it is connected to in network panel. I want to be able to stream the movies on this computer to my iPad which is connected to the wireless router.
I have a netgear CVG834G main router, were my desktop is plugged on to.I pulled a new cable trough the house and garage to have internet access on the other side (cable length is about 80 meters).After the 80meters of cable I placed a Linksys WRT54GS v5.1 router. The problem is that I can connect to the Linksys, but the Linksys can�t connect to the netgear. On the Linksys the internet LED is blinking very slowly (what does this mean?). So first I thought that the cable was broken or too long. I tested the cable => not broken. I connected the Linksys with the netgear trough a shorter cable and then connected my laptop via the long cable (80meter) and this works perfectly.Is the maximum distends a netgear can take less than 80 meters? (thought is was 100meter ).
View 3 Replies View RelatedNetgear WGR614v7 Router.I have three computers wi-fi networked via the Netgear router: a laptop, a Mac Mini, and a XBox 360.About 30% of the time, when I wake my laptop up, it's been dropped from the network. The only thing that seems to allow it to connect again is if I unplug the power from the router and plug it back in again.This also happens to the XBox 360 once and a while. It never happens to the Mini. I suspect the Mini never gets dropped because it never gets turned off or goes to sleep.Some things I've tried to no avail:
- restarting my laptop
- manually reconnecting to the network via the icon in the system tray
- ipconfig /release, /renew
- disabling power management on my network adapter
- updating my router's firmware
My research keeps pointing to my router's "idle timeout" setting, though that may or may not actually be the problem. In my router setup, I currently have the "Does Your Internet Connection Require A Login?" setting set to No. When it's set to No, I do not have access to my Idle Timeout setting. If I set Login Required to Yes, I do have access to Idle Timeout, but none of my computers can connect, and I'm unsure how to get that working properly. I've read that if I set Idle Timeout to 0 (zero), it essentially never times out.
Just purchased a new Router and set it up. Powered up my laptop and its showing it as an intruder and isn't allowing it to access the net. How do I solve this and allow it to connect? Router is Netgear N300 Wireless Router
View 2 Replies View RelatedI've been replacing my Netgear WNDR3700 (currently only serving as wired router and gigabit switch) with an Untangle box.Obviously, only the free "Lite" version would be worth it, as the others are priced ridiculously for non business use. I've had a hard time figuring out from their webpage how the features of the "Lite" compare to the others, particularly how Spam Blocker Lite, Web Filter Lite and Virus Blocker Lite compare to the full versions of each.
Is the untangle router any good? How do its management features compare with consumer solutions?The new web caching feature seems really cool too, especially when multiple systems grab the same large updates or download the same steam games, but at $54/year it seems a bit excessively priced for home use, so I'd probably just be sticking with the base free version.
I just moved into a house that has pre-wired CAT5 (Maybe 6) in every room. Its all connected by two Netgear FS116 switches in the attic.
According to my landlord I should just have to plug in my modem into any ethernet port, and internet will be present at every jack.
I've plugged into several of wall jacks and none of them seem to work. Sometimes for a random reason they will work, but the connectivity is so poor that I can't even load webpages. Connecting direct to the modem I receive excellent download speeds.
I am not 100% the cabling is correct, and don't know of any way to test if they are good besides plugging in my modem, and then seeing if my computer gets connectivity.
Is there some easy way I can troubleshoot this? Am I missing something major that I need to accomplish? Like go into the switch and change settings?
