View 3 RepliesI have connected an ASA 5505 to an ADSL router that is able to assign the IP address and the also the DNS servers for the ISP for the outside interface. The ASA is loaded up with IOS "asa842-k8.bin"
I am using vpnclient with a hostname as oppose to an IP address to connect to a headend remote server. If I hardcode the DNS servers IPs in the "dns server-group DefaultDNS" I am able to resolve the hostname. If I then remove the IPs from the group and rely on the dhcp to assign them, when I try to resolve the name I have an error at the console "ERROR: % Invalid Hostname"
We have an ASA configured to access the internet, which works fine for clients who have an IP address assigned by DHCP, but not for clients with manually assigned IPs.
For instance, with the DHCP server configured to give IP addresses between 172.16.101.1 and 172.16.101.10, a device may get the IP address 172.16.101.1. This machine will have connectivity to the internet.
If we then configure DHCPd server range as 172.16.101.2 to 172.16.101.10 and statically assign the 172.16.101.1 IP to the client, it will not have internet access. It will, however have inside access and VPN access.
If I try to ping 8.8.8.8, the following is logged:
ASA 3 Feb 08 2013 15:51:01 8.8.8.8 xxx.xxx.xxx.100 Deny inbound icmp src outside:8.8.8.8 dst servers:xxx.xxx.xxx.100 (type 0, code 0)
Where 'servers' is the name of the inside interface the request is made from and 'xxx.xxx.xxx.100' is the external IP. It seems as DNAT is not working when the client IP is static assigned.
I am administering a Catalyst 2960S switch and I would like to connect several computers to it. Some of those each have a static IP address. For a few of them, I would like the switch to dynamically assign an IP address to them via DHCP. Is the switch capable of doing this? If so, how can I do it? I tried looking through Cisco Network Assistant and I couldn't find it. Some web pages have suggested I telnet into the switch and issue commands like "ip dhcp ?" to see what commands are possible. I can telnet in and if I type but I get an "Unrecognized command" for both "ip ?" and "ip dhcp ?". This makes me think I'm reading the wrong web pages. I did come across the term "DHCP snooping". It seems relevant, but very difficult for me to grasp.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI installed an IP camera, and had to change my E1000 router settings to a static IP address. Now I can't access the router settings. 192.168.1.1 is still the default gateway, but it won't open in any browser.
I'm reluctant to do a reset because it took me quite a while to figure out how to get the IP camera and port forwarding working (it does!), and I'd hate to do it all again and come to the same place. I'm not very good at this stuff, and it's a small miracle that I did it once.
I just reset my router to the factory settings in order to make some changes to it. However, when I tried to change the SSID to a unique name, I was unable to connect my computer to the wireless network. I then reset my security settings and left the SSID to the default name "linksys_SES_54125" and it is working just fine. I tried to connect with two separate computers both running Windows 7. My router is the WRT54G v8
why I wouldn't be able to connect to my wireless network when I change the SSID?
I need the capability to log into the 3g/4g modem and change the Wan IP address. Doe anyone know of a 3g/4g modem that allows you to do that. My other option would be to disable the wireless radio on the 3g/4g router and connect my Linksys Wireless router that I know I can log in and change the WAN Ip. It looks like to me that this model below would allow me to do that?MBR1516 Will turning off wireless radio on the 3g/4g router completely turn off all routing or could there be a conflict with my Linksys wireless router?

I phoned up aol and requested my MAC code. With my new ISP ( possibly ZEN ) if I keep my existing netgear router, can I keep my wireless connection settings the same i.e. network name, wep key etc.If, on the other hand I get Zen's router which is pre configured, I would need to set up the wireless again. Could I still use the same network name and wep key, or would I have to chose new ones.

What's the difference between the 2 commands and if this would achieve the said change. I've checked using the show interface it's still showing MTU of 1500 bytes.

But it couldn't connect wireless. There were strong signals but connected computer couldn't get access to the internet. so i tried using ethernet uplink instead of DSL uplink while reinstalling the software Since then the light of ADSL never lights, even it never blinks. now the software on the cd can connect to the router. i cannot access its settings using IP address in browser, the page wouldn't load. I am so worried. Can i revert the setting back to dsl uplink?I can connect to the internet very smoothly using my old router so you can't blame my phone line or lan wire. So I have to figure out what the IP Address is of the printer then modify the printer port on the PC to point to the correct address. If this only happened rarely or if I could easily remember the steps I have to take to remedy the situation, I guess this would not be such a big deal. But it happens a lot and I'm old and alzheimery. So my question is: how do I get the router to assign the same IP Address to the printer all of the time?

View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm adding another router to my home network to extend my WiFi range. (Linksys e2500.) I'm trying to change its IP from the default 192.168.1.1 so that it doesn't conflict with my primary (dhcp) router.
To isolate matters I've reset the router to factory settings, turned off my mac's WiFi and then connected the Mac to a Lan port on the router. Now I can view the router's admin page at 192.168.1.1.
Now I change its local IP to 192.168.1.3 and leave the subnet as 255.255.255.0. The router reboots and after several minutes is inaccessible at any IP I try (still hardwired to the Mac with WiFi off). Ifconfig doesn't show the router and the only way I can get it back is to factory reset it again.
I have a broadband connection and recently I bought a new D-Link wireless router for accessing internet on my Android phone via Wi-Fi. Router model no. is N 150 DIR-524.After configuring it was working fine for a week or so and then one fine day internet stopped working on my PC and router LED for internet was not glowing as well. So I called my ISP and they changed my ethernet card settings (nVidia). They changed the 'Speed/duplex settings' from 'Auto Negotiation' to '10 Mb Half Duplex' and then the internet started working. During this they had disconnected my router. Once they were gone, I reset the router and connected it back. Since then it ain't working Internet works fine when the cable is plugged directly in the ethernet card but doesn't work when plugged via router. Router does everything right from opening the '192.168.0.1' page to saving the settings. But there's no internet access.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI am trying to add the E3000 to my existing network to provide Wireless Connectivity for my users. The main router is a RouteFinder SOHO VPN (RF560). The RouteFinder acts as a gateway and provides DHCP. I do not want to change it's role or settings. When I added the E3000 using a Lan-to-Lan connection to the RouteFinder, all users lost access to the internet. As a quick fix as I was working on something else at the time, I just unplugged the E3000. Now I am reading through Article 3733 that I was originally referred to and that has me changing the settings on the RouteFinder which I do not want to do. Is there any way to accomplish adding this to my network without changing anything on the RouteFinder at all??? By the way...I am located in another state than this router and network. I can call and have someone plug and unplug stuff but all of the configuration has to be done remotely.
