We are upgrading our dsl to cable. We have a cisco 877 router/dsl modem and windows sbs 2003 r2. May I know how do I change the ip addresses in the router, and how do I add a cable modem to the router?

I've finally gone and done it. I phoned up aol and requested my MAC code.With my new ISP ( possibly ZEN ) if I keep my existing netgear router, can I keep my wireless connection settings the same i.e. network name, wep key etc.If, on the other hand I get Zen's router which is pre configured, I would need to set up the wireless again. Could I still use the same network name and wep key, or would I have to chose new ones.

View 1 Replies View RelatedAt my home I have a Westell 6100 DSL modem connected to a computer.AT&T is the ISP and all filters are installed.I use my home computer via VNC applications from a remote location and I began to notice that the VNC local client session was being lost,,,over and over.It was discovered that the WAN IP was changing over and over and happens about once every 5-10 minutes,,,or so. While I have a dynamic WAN IP from ATT, I would not expect the WAN IP to change as often as 7-8 (or more) times a day. At first I thought it was ATT changing my DYNAMIC WAN IP.But, a review of the Westell log file is reporting lost connection(s),,,,,etc, etc,,,,,etc. over and over.Below is a list of the Westell log information showing several hours of behavior.The Westell diagnotics that were run and the SELF test run as expected.Looks like the DSL modem is going bad, a filter is bad, or the line is going bad and needs to be balanced,,,,etc..

Recently i have to change my modem (lightning struck) which of course, done by my ISP worker.The problem is, since then, I've been getting the "DNS lookup failed" error message constantly while using Google Chrome. Or sometimes the "This web page is not available - The connection to [URL] was interrupted".I have to refresh the search once or twice to get to the site, which is very annoying. I tried surfing on my friend's laptop, using the same wireless connection and it seemed to work fine. This problem only occurred on MY laptop.One more thing is, the connection doesn't seem to go wrong because i could play online game with no trouble like lagging or disconnection whatsoever. I am in a problem, my modem gets hacked everyday, such that many of the sites do not open and only "http://212.113.36.83/" opens instead of sites like yahho.com, sify.com. View 5 Replies View RelatedA client was having some email issue and was requested to change the 1841's LAN and WAN interface MTU to 1400 bytes. i've used 'mtu' command but was rejected and got an error like to one attached. so i used 'ip mtu' instead to make the change.
What's the difference between the 2 commands and if this would achieve the said change. I've checked using the show interface it's still showing MTU of 1500 bytes.
Every so often (random amounts of time) my internet setting either on the router or pc change and then I it comes up with an error that my settings aren't the same as my router... I'm reluctant to do a reset because it took me quite a while to figure out how to get the IP camera and port forwarding working (it does!), and I'd hate to do it all again and come to the same place. I'm not very good at this stuff, and it's a small miracle that I did it once.
I just reset my router to the factory settings in order to make some changes to it. However, when I tried to change the SSID to a unique name, I was unable to connect my computer to the wireless network. I then reset my security settings and left the SSID to the default name "linksys_SES_54125" and it is working just fine. I tried to connect with two separate computers both running Windows 7. My router is the WRT54G v8

I need the capability to log into the 3g/4g modem and change the Wan IP address. Doe anyone know of a 3g/4g modem that allows you to do that. My Motorola SBG901 Modem/Router combo has stopped connecting to the internet. I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection.
View 1 Replies View Relatedi just bought a Netgear WNDR4000 router due to troubles with my current modem/router combo (D-Link DSL2730-B). The router doesnt have in built modem functionality obviously so I need to set up the modem/router as a dedicated modem.Also should I use the current modem/router as the dedicated modem or an older model i own (I think its a DSL 502T)? Because the current one often drops the internet connection. Don't know if its a problem with the modem functionality or something else. Will the older one serve better since i didn't have any problems with that one or will it be outdated? I only upgraded due it not having wireless capabilities. Otherwise it's fine.Or will I be even better off buying a dedicated modem? I really don't want to spend more money but if this is a far better alternative I guess i will.
EDIT: Ok so found out that I have to put the modem/router in bridge mode in order for this to be possible. However, looking up how to do this lead me to a dead end because i need to fill in some fields that i have no idea how to interpret.

I recently bought a tenda w548d Version 2.0 Adsl2+ Modem router. it worked fine with its default settings and wired connection was ok when i chose DSL uplink while installing its driver from CD. But it couldn't connect wireless. There were strong signals but connected computer couldn't get access to the internet. so i tried using ethernet uplink instead of DSL uplink while reinstalling the software Since then the light of ADSL never lights, even it never blinks. now the software on the cd can connect to the router. i cannot access its settings using IP address in browser, the page wouldn't load. I am so worried. Can i revert the setting back to dsl uplink?I can connect to the internet very smoothly using my old router so you can't blame my phone line or lan wire. I have tried reset the new router many times but still the ADSL light never lights up. And the ADSL light is ok because when i turn the router on, it lights with all the others.

So I have to figure out what the IP Address is of the printer then modify the printer port on the PC to point to the correct address. View 7 Replies View RelatedI'm adding another router to my home network to extend my WiFi range. (Linksys e2500.) I'm trying to change its IP from the default 192.168.1.1 so that it doesn't conflict with my primary (dhcp) router.
To isolate matters I've reset the router to factory settings, turned off my mac's WiFi and then connected the Mac to a Lan port on the router. Now I can view the router's admin page at 192.168.1.1.
Now I change its local IP to 192.168.1.3 and leave the subnet as 255.255.255.0. The router reboots and after several minutes is inaccessible at any IP I try (still hardwired to the Mac with WiFi off). Ifconfig doesn't show the router and the only way I can get it back is to factory reset it again.
I have a pair of data center core 6500 is running a single EIGRP AS with the standard core redundant cross connects. Recently an SVI sub net was expanded from a /24 to a /23 and dropped out of the EIGRP routing table. Subsequent trouble shooting lead to the router id being one using an IP address that is no longer active IP address.
Reviewing old configurations I found, that year ago, the ip address used for the EIGRP router-id (10.100.106.3) was removed from the active interface and changed but the EIGRP router-id was not updated. The switch has not been rebooted since, no loop back is configured and there is not a higher IP configured on an active interface. Reviewing documented material on it, I cannot find anything specific on this condition but do see in the discussions on duplicate IDs, that new route updates can be a problem. I know how to update the router id but I am looking for confirmation on what would be the impact when I add a new loop back and manually configure the router-id under the EIGRP process with the new loop back IP.
My assumption is an EIGRP update and route re convergence with the standard 90 seconds of outage. How to confirm this is assumption is correct? I have no test bed to find out myself without doing this on the active cores.
