Cisco :: 6500 - Monitoring IPv6 BGP Peers Via SNMP
Nov 5, 2011
I'm running 12.2(33)SXJ1 on a 6500 with several IPv6 BGP peers. Is there any way to monitor the BGP status of IPv6 peers? I've been through the BGP4 mib and cant seem find a way to check the status of IPv6 peers.

What is the reason of following NTP error. I am unable to configure further ntp peers on the router. Could not able to understand the reason of 100 peers. I am adding only 2nd peer on the router but getting this error. There is no problem adding peers in other 6500s .

We currently have a few 5505s installed at client sites which are connected via s2s ipsec VPN to our datacenter's 5510. We are using Nagios to monitor the local data center and remote client infrastructure (over the VPNs) which has been working well.
We would like to also monitor the remote 5505s using SNMP over the s2s tunnels but it doesn't seem to be working, the connection is timing out. We've configured the remote 5505s with the same snmp statement we used on the 5510 (snmp-server host inside <remote datacenter IP> poll community ***** version 2c) yet the Nagios SNMP check cannot connect to the remote 5505s. We've also tried the command using 'outside' without any luck, not sure how to get SNMP to route over the VPN.

how snmp monitoring works when we have WLC in the networking. Before the WLC 5508 instalation, we had the Nagios monitoring each Access Point in the networking. Today, the Nagios still monitoring the networking, but the Nagios cannot get the same information of the APs (CPU, status interface, memory, etc). Now, the WLC controls each AP, the IP address, netmask, community (of all AP) are the same before the WLC instalation. I have tried to configure the SNMP information in Management>>SNMP>>Communities, but these configuration are from WLC and not from each AP.
How can I configure the SNMP setting in my AP to still use the Nagios to monitoring the networking?

I have 5 installations of ACS appliances (ACS 1121 running ACS 5.3). Is there a way to monitor them via SNMP? The AD client keeps dying on one of them, and even with the newest patch it's not up. Also, i want to monitor them up/down, CPU, memory... basic network monitoring to make sure my devices are healthy.
Any one know if that can be configured? I figured i'd ask here before opening a TAC.

I am building a few 3750 stacks, I want to be able to poll/monitor each individual switch in the stack but as it only has 1 ip associated with the stack how can I do this. I am polling the uplink interfaces but as I only have uplinks on the top and bottom switch I am blind to a switch going down in the middle of the stack.

I'm a C# programmer and as part of my software I need to monitor some Cisco Catalyst 3560V2 24 switches using SNMP (By reading MIB/S data).Apparently this switch supports more than 50 different MIBs.My question is which MIB/MIBS contains general health data (parameters) that may determine if the switch is OK, Degraded or Malfunctioned.

I was positively surprised to find the optical transmit/receive values using the show fiber-ports optical-transceiver detailed command on a SG300-10.
Now I'm wondering if there is also a SNMP-MIB to query these values? I've already tried the CISCO-ENTITY-SENSOR-MIB used by the larger devices running Cisco IOS, but this didn't work.

I recently picked up a Catalyst 2960G and am trying to get SNMP management working over IPv6. I have the IP Address set to the local link, and can successfully ping and telnet to the switch (so the network can get traffic to and from the switch). However, SNMP packets just seem to disappear. I am running WireShark on my machine, and I see the packets go out to the proper IP, but nothing comes back. When I check "sho ipv6 traffic", I can see where there are UDP packets that are received, but, again, none going out. Also, when I run "sho snmp", all of the packet counts are 0.
Here are some relavant snipets from my "sho run":
interface Vlan1
no ip address
no ip route-cache
ipv6 enable

I'm currently implementing Microsoft System Center 2012 Operations Manager, the curent stage of the project is to add the network devices to SCOM via SNMP in order to monitor them, I am able to add them all and monitor; however, my ASA 5510, although SCOM discovers the ASA via SNMP and adds it to the network monitoring list, it loses SNMP connectivy every 30 minutes, and 15 later it reconnect with SCOM, then after another 15 minutes it loses the connection again, and so on and so for.

A customer observes SNMP timeout problems on a Cat6500 with IOS 12.2(33)SXI. As a result every 2 days (more or less) all interfaces are marked DOWN and a couple of minutes later all interface are up again - but in fact there is no interruption, it is just the snmp request getting a time out. the customer does not have problems with IOS 12.2(18)SXF14.
In the Bug Details the "Known affected versions" lists the following beside others:
12.2(33)SXI
12.2(33)SXI1
12.2(33)SXI2
[code]...
Now I am confused; both IOS versions are listed as affected (12.2(33)SXI and 12.2(18)SXF14) but the customer does have problems only with one version. Is the customer hitting this bug or is it another one ?
He upgraded 2 Cat65xx on which he observed the problem to IOS 12.2(33)SXI6 and the problem is gone; is this just a coincidence or is CSCed52841 really fixed in 12.2(33)SXI6. This version is not listed as affected but on the other hand, "Fixed-In" lists only these 3:
12.1(22.3)E1
12.2(17d)SXB5
12.2(18)SXD
Before going to upgrade around 50 Core / Distribution switches the customer wants to be sure with the IOS version. Tracing the issue is not that easy because the failure occurs only from time to time.

I would like to monitor the status of ether channel and trunk configurations in 6500 Catalyst switches running both CATOS and IOS. I would like to understand the specific mibs /OIDS that should be monitored for ether channels and trunks. I am trying to get a better handle on tracking the ether channels and trunk dynamically and then understanding when the ports are having issues (up/down and errors). I need to understand how to differentiate these type of ports from regular access ports.

I have a location where I have 2 WAN links, but without a dynamic routing protocol in between. I want to implement a kind of hub to 2 spokes VPN. But the spokes will actualy be on one single ASA firewall, each spoke on a different interface. One hub-spoke will be primary, the other one the secondary. When the WAN link for the primary VPN fails the secondary should be started on the hub to the other spoke.

I have a Cisco ASA 5505 which is setup as an EasyVPN client to e remote VPN concentrator.
The Cisco ASA has the 50 internal user license with 10 VPN peers.
We just upgraded the license from the base 10 internal user to 50 user license but it has not resolved the problem and only 10 internal users still work, the 11th fails.
Does each EasyVPN client on the inside network take up 1 of the 10 VPN peer licences?
This seems to be the issue from what I can see, just need confirmation.

I have one ASA with two tunnels. Each going to a different 3rd party Checkpoint firewall (site A, site B) Each site has two servers (A1, A2, B1, B2)I can only connect to A1 and B1. any connection to A2 and B2 fails. I have defined B2 and A2 in the crypto map to be protected. If I only have B2 or A2 in the crypto map ACL then the tunnel fails. Phase 1 does not come up. Its as if the ASA is ignoring the entries for B2 and A2.ASA running 8.4(2).I have also trashed the VPN and built via the wizard, same result.

At our organisation our routers all have at least 3 BGP peers, each from a different connectivity provider. The different providers that we use all have different internet transit CDRs. Is there a way that I can configure a priority for the 3 BGP peers on our routers so that outbound traffic to the internet is sent to the BGP peer from the provider with the highest CDR?
Routers are C2821

I am imagining a smallish networking (AS1234) with say three full BGP table peers that provide transit to the network (just to keep the maths simple here); Lets say AS100 and AS200 are preferred transit providers with AS300 as a backup/least prefered (AS prepends or similar stop us from using this network by default). So in this scenario our little network gets two different paths across the Internet, as not to rely solely on one provided, with a backup provider to hand also.
How do you mange issues like packet loss somewhere in AS100's or AS200's network? So lets say a host on our AS1234 network is talking to host in AS888 and the preferred route is through AS100 but somewhere deep in AS100 a link is flapping (for example) and I can't get to AS888 reliably through there anymore, but I can through to other peers of AS100 OK. We can postulate that AS100 is the best path for 50% of the Internet and AS200 for the other 50% (this is a best case fictional scenario). I can't ping 50% of the internet via AS100 and then in the event a ping fails (or some other more reliable test) tear down the BGP session to use AS100 until it's fixed again, nor vice versa with AS200.
First of all, I asume you don't know about the issue between AS100 and AS888 until someome moans about it to you? Secondly, do you then some how modify the route(s) to AS888 that come from AS100 (route map for example to change the weight or preference) so AS200 is now preferred for AS888? Do you infact shut down the AS100 peering and now use AS200 & AS300? How do you rectify these situations that are beyond you control using what is in your control?

We have an ASA5520 configured with a IPSec VPN, from any ADSL home/office our VPN clients can connect without any problem, but when we use our cellular phones in tetering mode (as an accesspoint) our VPN clients are impossible to connect. Same machines, same software, same operating system, same remote IP (ASA5520 external IP) only change Wifi connection (ADSL to cellular phone). The signal of cellular phones is not the problem we was doing the tests with different phones (IPHONE & ANDROID), different locations (all in spain) and differents providers (vodafone, orange and movistar) of internet by cellular phone. We think that perhaps the problem is the licenses that our ASA5520 has..
Our ASA5520 comes with this licenses:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Licensed features for this platform:
Maximum Physical Interfaces : Unlimited perpetual
Maximum VLANs : 150 perpetual
Inside Hosts : Unlimited perpetual
Failover : Active/Active perpetual
