View 1 Replies View RelatedIf you had to chose between Dell and another OEM manufacturer for a server to be used in a 1-20 user/employee/computer office network, which OEM would you go for? For a long time I have been recommending/selling Dell servers to my SMB clients (mainly the Poweredge T series) and am pretty comfortable working with these servers. However, I'm also a Lenovo business partner and they seem to have some aggressive pricing. Have any of you used Lenovo servers lately? Pros/cons? Warranty support good? I noticed HP is now selling Microsoft software licenses as a kit when you purchase a server, appearing to be discounted, even if you were to buy the licenses separately through a volume agreement.
Also, being that most of my clients in the 1-20 user/employee/computer office environment are looking at their bottom line, how would you configure a new server to run Microsoft SBS 2008 (some using Exchange, others not yet but may in future)? RAID1/5/10? 8GB RAM enough? Intel Xeon E5600 series processor? SATA or SAS drives?
Here is what I would normally build out a server from Dell:
single Intel Xeon E5620 processor
8GB RAM
PERC RAID card configured in RAID1
500GB SATA drives x 2
SBS2008 (I don't have much experience with SBS2011 yet, figured it would be best to let others work out any potential issues first)
windows server 2003 drivers

View 1 Replies View RelatedI know now that this is a Desktop motherboard, officially not supported for Windows Server operating systems, but I would still like to get it to work. I've confirmed that the motherboard network works in WinXP (Intel 82579V Gigabit) and typically the 32-bit Windows XP drivers work on Server 2003 as well. Several of the other drivers have installed just fine, but the network driver install package fails with "No Intel Adapters are present."
I am trying to install Windows Home Server v1 (based on Windows Server 2003) on this box and just want to get a basic network driver up and running. I've checked the BIOS config, and Device Manager shows a yellow question mark by "Ethernet Controller". The ID is:
PCIVEN_8086&DEV_1503&SUBSYS_20408086&REV_043&11583659&0&C8 but I don't really know what to do with that...
My two E3 boxes with 16GB each is feeling kinda cramped for what I want to do, 8GB unregistered ECC is still stupidly expensive, and a dual E5-2620 box with 12 cores/24 threads and 64GB of the much cheaper registered ECC, something like a 560Ti or equiv for playing around with remotefx, and a X540-AT2 or two when they become more widely available really sounds like a lot of fun.
Anyway the only concern I have is adding even more power to the ever growing power bill and heat load what with summer coming. My current setup uses around 320W, what the above system might draw at mostly idle and full load.
I already know there's an easier way of doing this; DHCP, TFTP and CCBoot. But this is not what I want.I have Hyper-V installed on a Windows Server 2008 R2 with a Windows 7 VM installed on it.What I wanna do is take this image of Windows 7 and boot it on another PC on the same network. The client PC doesn't have a hard disk so I want to boot it using a USB stick.I've already installed and configured Remote Desktop Roles and was able to access the Hyper-v VM using a browser locally. So what can I do next? I can't take the .vhd image and put it on a usb stick because it's too large (30GB) and converting it to .vdi would still be large.

View 6 Replies View RelatedI'm trying to set up VLANs in my network. So the first device after the internet cloud is my ISP modem/router. I don't really use the router part. The second device is my Linksys WRT54G router with DD-WRT firmware on it.Between the two, there is a subnet just for them. After the DD-WRT router, there is a subnet for my LAN.The third device is my netgear GS108T switch (with vlan support) to which almost all my computers are hooked up. One of those computers is my server that is domain controller and has the roles as shown in the image. What I would like to do is to create several virtual machines in Hyper-V. The trick is that I want to isolate them from the rest of my network. They should be able to access (and be accessed) from the internet but not the rest of my network. So my whole network should be in the same VLAN but each VM should be individually in separate VLANs.
1) I've allready created the VLANs on my Netgear Switch. I know my DD-WRT also has VLAN support. Do I need to create the same VLANs on that also?
2) How to configure the VLAN part of the Hyper-V server? (by the way, my server OS is Windows Server 2008 R2 with the hyper-v role, it's not the bare-metal hyper-v)Should my Virtual Switch be in VLAN 10 and my VMs in the other VLANs?Should the port (on the netgear switch) in which my server is connected, be in VLAN 10 (so that my server is accessible from every other computer in the network)?
So I have read about proper procedure involving the connection between a console cable and Hyper-terminal. I have also tried plugging into a network port to obtain an IP Address but nothing seems to work. When powering on the switch I see that it lights up, hear fans spin and assume it has booted properly. I'm using Hyperterminal on Windows Xp Pro SP3 and I've also tried minicom in Fedora.
And just FYI Hyperterminal was set to the proper:
Bits per second: 38400
Data bits: 8
Parity: None
Stop Bits: 1
Flow Control: None
When I create a virtual switch on hyper v, i lose network connectivity and the default gateway is missing I have to manually put the default gateway in and disable and re enable the network adaptor each time the server restarts in order to get network connectivity. I am running windows server 2012 Hyper V Virtual Ethernet Adapter loses default gateway server 2012

View 4 Replies View RelatedWe have a couple of 6500 series switches and have 3 BGP peerings to each. The 6500 series switches are loaded with WS-SUP720-3B Supervisor Engine. I believe there is a limit to the number of IPv4 routes WS-SUP720-3B supports(256,000). We also have "soft-reconfiguration inbound" configured on the BGP peerings. Thus when I do a "show ip bgp A.B.C.D" it displays three routes from 3 BGP peers and it displays an additional 3 "received-only routes" which I think is due to the "soft-reconfiguration inbound" configuration. We currently filter inbound routes from the BGP peers to be between /0 and /27
We are now looking to add another 2 BGP peerings. I am not too sure if the WS-SUP720-3B will be able to handle all the BGP routes. Is this limit of 256,000 IPv4 routes due to Processor memory limitation or is it software related? Would removing the "soft-reconfiguration inbound" save me some memory ?
My client using 3845 as a core router . 200 number of branch are connected through 6 ISP.Some of days average process shows 90 % . Max time 50 %.In the morning when Branch location are off then time also high utilization.High utilization is not continue after intervals of time or periodic time its goes to high.
have any solution for that ?. before once 3845 is crash for that. another is ready for replacee. We test another device like core switches for observation CPU rate.

I am running a 1712 12.4(25d) with NAT, VPN and FW/IDS. I have a broadband ethernet connection at 20mb. As I run some traffic through it, the processor jumps up to near 100% and throughput comes to a screeching halt. IP CEF is turned on and makes no difference when it is turned off or on.

I am a little stuck trying to troubleshoot unusually high cpu on 7600 Platform. This has been going on for many hours and not been causing a problem, but this doesn't seem replicated in our network and I am concerned about the cause.I have attached some output below, and disabled netflow on interfaces to free some switching CPU. How to track the cause of this? We only have routing protocols and 5 static routes to Null 0, so I cant see how this can be a route loop, but willing to stand corrected. Routes are learned from BGP with OSPF/MPLS internally on the network. This switch also connects to access switches on RIP and EIGRP.
No change has been made to this device when this problem started to occur so I am suspecting something about the traffic has changed or there is a rougue user? [code]
today i installed new router 7600 , but im facing some thing the cpu is increasing and it reached 50 % and still increasing as the bw dissipated is increasing .im applying ip policy which set next hop for many internet source my question is , how to know the cu percentage which is used by this ip policy , also , how to know the percentage by access-list ??
View 4 Replies View RelatedWe are running a stack of 2 WS-C3750X-24S-E's with IOS version 12.2(58)SE2 and we are seeing continuous high processor utilization involving the hl3mm process. The stack is configured for PIM Sparse mode, with 2 upstream Nexus 5596'es acting as both RP candidates and as BSRs. The hl3mm process generally runs at about 19% but can spike up into the 60% range.Symptoms on the 3750X are spiking latency and sluggish CLI perfformance. I thought at first that we might be running into SDM limits, but the "show platform tcam utilization" show that we are far under the limits of the default SDM template. Performing the "show ip pim (vrf name) bsr-router" command freezes the system and takes 20-30 seconds to return results. Similiarly configured WS-C3750G-12S running 12.2(55)SE3 does not exhibit these same issues.

Of course I'll propose a migration plan, document the network, diagram it entirely and provide effective steps to implement the change, but that's assumed from any get'go.
