However I'm Creating PPTP Connection on my I pad For Both VPN , Office is Connection, but Home is not Connecting. I tried to connect to Home Thru any PC, And It is Working. Any Issues With I pad and Cisco Firmwares and Software?

Mar 14, 2012I have a RV042 and have set it up for VPN Client access using the QuickVPN client to connect my remote users. I discovered today that I cannot have two users connect in at the same time. Both users are in the same remote office. They can connect individually with no problem but if one is connected and the other tries connect also the second user gets a message the gateway is not responding. They are both running Win XP PRo SP3.

Both users are in the same remote office. Feb 9, 2012I have been working on trying to get an IPAD using the built in VPN client to connect to an ASA5510 version 8.2(5). I have attached the debug from where I have gotten so far. Phase 1 is failing somewhere but the messages aren't real clear or at leat not to me. The ASA is acting as the local CA for the certificate. I inherited the config from another guy as he couldn't get it working and I have made some progress but still not luck in getting the tunnel to just come up. Access to resources will be next but I'd like to just see the ipad show connected.

Aug 29, 2011I set up an RV042 as a VPN gateway for a client a year ago. It is running firmware 1.3.12.19-tm (Feb 13 2009 13:03:21). I created a new certificate. When I download the client certificate, It comes as a .zip file. One the can not be opened by a zip utlity (windows, Winzip or 7 zip). It looks like I can just rename the file to a .pem file, but I want to make sure that is right. They were getting QuickVPN timeouts, but that looks like it was fixed in 1.3.13.

Aug 22, 2011Very recently, we had implemented Site-to-Site VPN tunnel between two Linksys RV042 4-port VPN routers. Everybody in our remote site is accessing and sharing the data through this tunnel and it is working fine.
Now, we have a plan to implement the same for our mobile clients also. For this, we had followed all the basic configuration procedures and user got connected to Quick VPN tunnel. Here is a problem we had observed. The mobile client user is connected to the tunnel, but unable to access the office LAN from the PC.

Nov 15, 2011I have a RV042 router setup with Client to gateway VPN access, and am connecting with a W7 PC running QuickVPN. We have many PC's that already have the standard CiscoVPN client on them, is it possible to configure the RV042 to allow these clients to conenct? I'm not sure how to get the Mutual authentication to work, or how to import the PEM certificiate into that client. It seems to allow it to import, but I can never select it.

Jun 9, 2012I'm trying to set up a RV042 to do the following:
1) Block all WAN connections, except for:
2) Allow all port 80 connections, and forward to 10.4.20.60
3) Allow all port 443 connections, and forward to 10.4.20.60
4) Allow port 22 connections from specific IP addresses, and forward to 10.4.20.60
5) After a remote client has connected using Client to Gateway VPN, allow that remote client to access anything on the LAN
I'm able to do #1-4 above, but I can't get #5 to work. Or I can get #5 to work, but can't implement the restrictions I need in #1-4. Attached are some relevant screenshots. I think the problem is that I have Forwarding rules set up that require me to have a firewall rule to Deny All Traffic from WAN1 (unless I'm specifically allowing it). In the Access Rules screenshot, rule #6 is the problem. If I enable it (thereby denying all WAN1 traffic), then VPN clinents can't access anything on the LAN. However if disable this rule, VPN clinents can access anything on the LAN, but the firewall also opens up all outside connections to SSH, since that's set up in the Forwarding rules. I would have thought that once a remote client is connected using client to gateway VPN, then that client is considered to be on the LAN, as far as the firewall is concerned. Thus a firewall rule (like #6) that is specified for WAN1 shouldn't effect remote VPN clients.

May 20, 2012i was planed to make a vpn over rv042 so i get the rv042 connected behind a thosmon 456(configured as a bridge) and 1 static ip ... and i configured the vpn and worked great ...but due to some circumstance i get a package of 6 ips insted of the old ip , so when i try to configure the router with the ISP they but the wan ip 10.232.x.x and told me that an internal ip from there lan ... and give me the 6 ip of 196.x.x.x to use as 1 for internal interface for the rv042 and 5 for the pc's,now the vpn not working anymore...notice: when try to configure the vpn tunnle in the local securty setting i mark the ip only and the ip that abear is the wan ip 10.232.x.x but i can't ping that ip beside i can ping the internal ip of the router 196.x.x.50does rv042 can support static and virtual ip inside the lan |! can i configure the thomson as pppoe and use one static ip from 196.x.x.x as wan ip for it ... and use anther 196.x.x.x ip for the rv042 to get access from outside and connect the lan to the rv042 with internal ip 192.168.x.x ...so i can access the vpn from outside .....and can connect the device i need to use static ip to the thomson ...

The story: Had issues with remote printers being created for clients logging into old Linksys RV042 with Linksys VPN software. First Tech exposed server without security, and it had to be removed as it was being attacked, but did not fix printing issue. 2nd tech could not get VPN to work after 1st tech. 3rd tech, 4hours, and I got that the router is a piece of ... So I'm out over 1000, and not able to have a simple router set up. The present situation. New RV042 with firmware V4.1.1.01, using Cisco VPN client 5.0.07.0410, most XP 32 bit machines coming into network, one 64 bit win 7. My clients have been unable to access their data for too long.

Jun 29, 2012I have just purchased the RV042 and while it is working great on WAN1 over Xfinity/Comcast broadband, I'm unable to get it working with my AT&T DSL for WAN2. I am planning on running this in failover mode - not load balancing.
The DSL modem it is connected to is a SpeedStream (hooking up laptop directly works etc. etc.). The SpeedStream is set to PPOE authentication passed in via the computer (in this case the RV042). On the RV042 side, I set it to use PPOE, using the credentials as given my AT&T DSL. The DNS servers are set to the ones recommended

Jan 27, 2012I am setting up remote access using an RV042 router. Using quickvpn or a client-to gateway vpn and shrewsoft client, I can only access/ping the LAN side of the remote router and one machine on the remote network. The PPTP server and native Windows 7 connection provide access to all machines on the remote network.I have 2 possible reasons for this and would like to find the real reason:
1) The remote RV042 is behind another router, and that router restricts access other than the PPTP traffic.
2) The VPN tunnels other than PPTP only allow access to the remote LAN side of the router and remote machines that have the remote router defined as their gateway in the IP configuration.

May 15, 2013I am not having much success setting up a IPSec VPN tunnel between a RV042 V3 running v4.0.0.07 firmware and PIX 525 running 8.0(4) code.
Let's say the configuration looks like this:
The RV042 has public IP 70.0.0.1 and private LAN IP 192.168.1.1 /24 The PIX has outside IP 69.0.0.1 and inside LAN IP 172.16.0.1 /24 The RV042 is running as DHCP server on it's private LAN A Windows server at 172.16.0.2 is the DHCP server on the PIX's inside LAN.
I've tried every option on the RV042 for Phase 1 and Phase 2, but I am not certain how to configure the Advanced features especially Aggressive Mode, Compress, Keep-Alive, AH Hash Algorithm and Dead Peer Detection.
On the PIX I've tried the basic setup through ADSM, but it's not as clear or obvious to configure both sides with compatible settings compared to setting up a tunnel between two RV042s.

Oct 1, 2012I've been working on getting a client to Gateway configuration going for quite some time now. Had it working with a different Cisco single wan router that failed. The user replaced the router with an RV042 and we are trying to get the QuickVPN to once again connect to the router as it did before the replacement. Previously we did connect successfully with Windows 7 clients.

Jan 6, 2012I've had 1 to 1 NAT setup for years now with no issues and the other day it simply stopped working. Rebooted everything, had ISP clear arp on their cable modem yet nothing going. As soon as I remove the 1 to 1 NAT on the router the PC has internet access. Add the 1 to 1 back and no out going internet. The configuration is pretty basic and has not changed.Thinking it could be a hardware issue I swapped it out with another RV042 I have with the exact config, same thing 1 to 1 NATs have no internet access. Upgraded one of the RV042 firmware to Firmware Version: 1.3.13.02-tm, had cable modem replaced, spent numerous calls with ISP. nada
I have found one interesting thing however, any internal machine which is set to dhp works fine, and static ip that does not have a 1 to 1 nat works fine and the last ip in the 1 to 1 nat range works fine. If I extend the range it is always only the last ip that works. Even if I add 1 to 1 nats one line at a time, it is always the last entry that works..

Oct 21, 2011So have a RV042 VPN router that is directly connected to the ethernet port of our comcast cable modem.
If I connect to it using QuickVPN (1.4.2.1) from a PC that is connected using AT&T 3G Network it works fine!
If I connect to it using QuickVPN (1.4.2.1) from a different PC that is connected using home WiFi (linksys wrtxxx) then it fails. In the VPN log all I see is failure messages for ping.

If I open a regular command prompt and attempt to ping the VPN router it works so not understanding why the QuickVPN is unable to ping.
how I can troubleshoot this further. Makes me think the RV042 config is fine otherwise it would not work on a 3G connection. Something on the home PC or the home network. Not sure what to check.

Jun 21, 2012Updated to newest firmware 4.2.1.02 and wanted to perform a backup of the startup configuration. I get a "The webpage cannot be found" HTTP 400 error when trying to do this backup. I have changed some settings since my last backup, but that backup was done using the last firmware revision.

Cisco Routers :: RV042 Does Not Load Web Interface / VPN Stops Working?
Aug 12, 2011We bought an RV042 at the end of June. It is used as a gateway and VPN router. DHCP server is disabled and all IPs are configured manually.Every once in a while (Tuesday night, then Friday night - yesterday, it has hapened once or twice before that) the router appears to restart (see log below) then comes back up with system time of Jan 01 2010. At this point the router will no longer load its configuration page (https://10.29.238.197:16443/) and VPN connection to our customer in Africa drops. However, devices behind the router can be reached and can access the internet. The only way to fix this is to power cycle the router at which point everything starts working flawlessly again.The PID VID is RV042 V03 running firmware v4.0.3.03-tm (May 12 2011 21:27:37). Our RV042 is a newer one with Cisco SMB Router branding not the older Linksys branding.

May 16, 2012My organization has deployed 3 Cisco RV042 (v3) at our 3 sites. They have been working pretty well up until about a week ago. One of them continues to route traffic and perform port-forwarding, but the VPN has completely stopped working and I can no longer access the web administration interface. I get the standard login page, but any attempt to login (with correct or incorrect password) takes maybe 5 minutes with a spinning status icon, followed by a blank page leaving the browser at: url...
I have the router logs e-mailed to me, and I can see that the system boots up with Jan 1 2010 as the system date, but it eventually gets the correct date from NTP, so I'm doubting this is causing the problem.
These were working for months prior to this happening, and even a reboot of the affected RV042 does not allow me to log into it or setup the VPN tunnels. I have found similar threads on this forum: url...

WAN1 = Telepacific T1
1.5Mbps down and 1.5Mbps up
WAN2 = AT&T U-Verse
12Mbps down and 5Mbps up
I have it set to Load Balance, Primary WAN = WAN2
Network Service Detection enabled, only pinging the Remote Host of 4.2.2.2 and set to Generate Log
Bandwidth is set to:
WAN1 = 1000Kbps upstream & downstream
WAN2 = 5040Kbps upstream & 12000Kbps downstream
It seems to pick WAN1 a lot of the time. Do I have something setup wrong?

Dec 23, 2011I have my RV042 set up in Dual WAN mode and both WANs are working properly. I would like to configure WAN1 to handle all traffic, unless it fails and then have everything to go to WAN2. Pretty much what Smart Link Backup does, however with that enabled only 1 of the WANs is live at any given time. I'd like both WANs to always be live as I'm going to see the second one as a back-door into the network. Is this possible to do with routing? I tried setting a routing rule to have everything to go WAN1, but when WAN1 goes down, nothing is rounted via WAN2.

Sep 30, 2012I have a 6 month old RV042 with the newest firmware (v4.2.1.02). Over the weekend I configured the DMZ which after a lot of trial and error, was able to get working. Prior to configuring DMZ, I was able to log in with remote management. However now remote management no longer works. I've tried:
- Rebooting the router
- Turning the firewall off/on
- Turning remote management off/on
- Changing the remote management port
The only step I haven't taken is resetting the router back to factory defaults and trying to reconfigure it all again. This router is so finicky I have no faith I'd be able to get my current functionality back again.
