an RVS4000 shall establish a pptp VPN connection. The router is connected trough its WAN port to the first router which connects to the internet.
The PPTP VPN connection cannot be established but the pptp server can be pinged from the VPN router. Login data and password is OK. Connection can be established from a win7 computer without any problem.
Can I configure a PIX (515), as PPTP client to establish a tunnel with non-Cisco PPTP server ? Can my PIX initiate this type of connection ?Today, I use a PC with PPTP client to establish this and I want replace this with a PIX and I don´t want depends of a PC.

The windows server is not mine but it works. The clients are using the windows connection manager. We can connect to the windows pptp server for hours sometimes.But, sometimes we can just connect about 3-4-5 minutes, and it auto-disconnects. Is there something wrong in my configuration ? I heard the cisco router is messing with the keepalive or the connection state.It seems to happens when i have more than 5-6 clients connected at the same time on the same server. I got theses mesages : Link to VPN failed. OR ERROR 619 OR ERROR 651Before, I had a RV042 and it worked like a charm. We were 10 on the vpn server and it was working. I dont see why Its not working now.

I am having problem when try to connect through VPN from MacOS to my RV016 router.The situation is like this. I can connect to the router,the connection is succesfull, but when I try access resources inside the network it disconnects me.The message is "You are dissconnected by the PPTP Server". I encountered this problem on MacOS Snow Leopard and Lion. I tried to connect from 3 different Apple machines, but the problem is the same.

Does RV082 can establish PPTP VPN connection as CLIENT? (i'm aware it can provide function of VPN PPTP server but could not find if it can act as client).To explain further: I'm based in Europe and use US VPN to access some US services like Netflix, Pandora, etc.. (i'm paying for US VPN account as service so I have no other choice than PPTP). I would like to establish permanent PPTP VPN tunnel with remote server so all computers in the house can go through tunnel when i browse for Pandora or Netflix for example (is this router capable of routing policy too so not all the traffic would be routed through tunnel?)

No matter how I try to tweak various settings on the router, the connection fails. I have tried connecting with Windows 7, Android and OSX with no success.The router came with version 1.0.1.0, and I have tried downgrading to 1.0.0.26 and upgrading to 1.0.3.5, but alas, I can't seem to make PPTP work again.

Office-RV042 with static IP ->SBS2003 (10.10.10.5/ 255.255.255.0)
Remote: BEFSR41 with Dynamic -> XP sp3 VPN client (192.168.3.x/ 255.255.255.248)
Within the RV042 I have enabled the PPtP server and assigned a user. No port forwarding enabled. All VPN passthroughs and firewall is enabled. DHCP server is disabled.I can establish a connection to the rv042 and ping PCs including the sbs domain server on the office side but am unable to browse any folders. When I attempt to access a network folder located on the office server I am prompted for a username/ password. Upon entering my domain credentials I get an error stating: "the user name you typed is the same user name you logged in with. That user name has already been tried. A domain controller cannot be found to verify that user name"
I am using a pptp server running on windows 2008 server and I have configured my ASA 5520 to let the PPTP traffic to pass throught.
The solution works quite well but exactly every 120 minutes the connection drops and people have to reconnect. Is there any setting to change? In the PPTP server I haven't found any setting to change.
If i use PPTP or OpenVPN does this encrypt my entire connection to the internet or just web browsing?
View 7 Replies View RelatedMy new RVS4000 (2.0.2.7) connects the WAN via PPoE with dynamic IP which is held at DynDNS and normally I see the RVS4000 via a router-to-router-VPN. That works fine so far, but every "some" days the router looses WAN connection (and with ist VPN). When this happens, last DynDNS-update is hours ago, so it didn`t reconnect. Looking on the routers site, the LAN is fully functional for clients that have got their DHCP-Information. New clients don`t get DHCP-Info (IP-address, DNS), both do not have internet access. The router`s WAN-summary shows, that it thinks to be "CONNECTED" but with empty WAN-IP and DNS entries. Klicking "DISCONNECT" and then "CONNECT" again solves the problem so far. The loss of connection is not the periodic break from the IPC, which is correctly identified and reconnected as configured. I wanted to trace the problem with the log, but there is also a bug. It stops logging at some time completely - neither email-log nor local log, so I never happend to be lucky to hit the point of loss of connection. Also the local log provides a first and next pages, but the next pages are always empty - not really useful.

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have two RVS4000 at both ends of a VPN tunnel. The tunnel is up and runs fine. I can ping the two servers at the main office end of the tunnel, and cconnect to the resources of both servers. However, one of the servers, the terminal server, is unreachable via RDP. The other server can be reached via RDP for administrative purposes just fine, but the terminal server cannot be reached. There is only one difference that I can think of. The terminal server is reachable from the outside world via a redirected forwarded port on the RVS4000 at the main office.
The current firmware version is V2.0.0.3 at both ends. Is this a known anomaly for this revision of firmware?
Just recently purchased an RVS4000 to take the place of an old NetGear FVS336, which supported multiple NAT translations. It appears that the RVS4000 does not support this, any other models in the small business line support this? I only need this for a backup Internet connection?

The only solution seems to be to cycle the power since the admin interface freezes. I also have to cycle the power on my two wireless ap to get them back up.I believe I have the latest firmware, is this a common problem on a faster connection?

In looking at the logs, the device that isn't working is getting a different IP (172.16 vs 192.168). I know I'm limited to 5 users, but am I limited to 5 devices as well?

My IP address is in the Approved Client IP Addresses so it is excluded from the URL filtering and Web reputation rules.

Problem is what tcp/1723 is NATed successfully and it appears what GRE traffic is NATed as well, but GRE packets are NOT passed back to user on LAN.

I have a Cisco 877 router and I configured it to act as a VPN server, supporting both PPTP and L2TP VPNs. I can succesfully connect to it from Windows computers using the built-in VPN software.There is only one problem: when using a PPTP VPN, encryption doesn't work. If I configure the client to require encryption (default setting), the connection fails with an error about the remote endpoint not supporting it. If I remove the encryption requirement, the connection succeeds. I've also tried tweaking the encryption settings (40/128 bits), but this didn't work either. [code]
The router's IOS version is 15, and it fully supports encryption. The strangest thing is, encryption is actually required in the router config; but not only the router doesn't seem to offer it... it also accepts unencrypted connections, which it shouldn't. It's like the ppp encrypt mppe auto required command is completely ignored.
I'm trying to set up a permanent VPN connection for an Expat. We've got an RV042 set up on site to act as the server, and an RVL200 as a client. This RVL200 will be behind a home router, so it needs to initiate the connection every time; the site side router won't be able to see it behind the Expat's home router.I've got a PPTP server set up on the RV042, and I'm trying to get the RVL200 to connect to it as a client. Is there any way to do so, or will we need to go with another option? Because on the RV042, I see no way to set up an SSL server of any kind; only a direct SSL Tunnel, which won't work as again, the RV042 will not be able to see the RVL200.

The 2901 is humming along quite nicely but I have had difficulty configuring one feature which was working fine on the 877. The router needs to be a PPTP client to a hosted VPN service. On the 877, I had it configured like this: [code] I then had a dialer interface to actually set up the connection, and some PBR to control what went over the VPN. All well and good, and it worked fine. But on the 2901, when I try to configure the same thing, there is no such command as "protocol pptp" -- the only option is protocol l2tp.Was PPTP support deprecated somwhere between 15.1 and 15.2, or does the 2901 itself not support it for some reason? Obviously I understand that l2tp is superior to pptp, but at the moment this is my only option.

I already managed to put a PPTP VPN with an authentication against our LDAP databse via radius. But our password are in SHA1 in our LDAP, so I had to let the password unencrypted on the network using pap and this is bad.If I don't use pap, it simply doesn't work since all the other method need unencrypted password for the challenge authentication.Does that mean that every remote access VPN keep our password unencrypted ? Maybe use EAP (but I can't find a howto or good documentation about it)? Can I add a certificate or something?
