Feb 13, 2013Cisco router 3945 when unpacked from the box and powered on , it was not able to find boot loader image and booted in ROMMON mode. tried to boot from the external flash and tftp but still not able to.
We replaced router chassis 2 times and both the times faced the same problem.

Nov 30, 2011I purchased 2 RV042's (h/w version 3) less than two months ago. I updated them to the latest firmware (v4.0.4.02-tm (Jul 4 2011 13:30:56)), did a factory reset to make sure I was working with a clean slate, set up DDNS through DynDNS and a site to site VPN between the two. Everything was working great for a month, then the DynDNS accounts expired because they weren't being updated. I reactivated the names on the DynDNS site, and started to monitor the "last updated" date and time. After 24 hours there were no updates according to the DynDNS site. I logged into one of the RV042's, and it said "Dyndns Enabled : Dynamic DNS is updated successfully." This is a stale message from 24 hours ago when I hit save. So I went into Setup | Dynamic DNS | Edit Config and there it also says "Dynamic DNS is updated successfully." I clicked "Save", status changed to " Dyndns Enabled : Updating..." for a few seconds, and then back to "Dyndns Enabled : Dynamic DNS is updated successfully". I refreshed the DynDNS website and it shows the current time (in eastern time, i'm pacfic) as the last time it was updated. So it works when I manually hit the "Save" button. Not making any changed, just hitting "Save". I've let the other RV042 go over 48 hours and it still hasn't updated. So it apears for the time being, I'll have to remember to push the "Save" button once a week to prevent my DynDNS accout from expiring. Does DDNS working in the lastest firmware and h/w version 3? If so, what is the update frequency?

Apr 19, 2013I have two of the Wrvs 4400n V2 VPN (V2.0.2.1-ETSI) routers in different countries, one in the UK and one in Australia. They are permanently linked using the IPSec VPN tunnel and the dynamic DNS feature (DynDNS.org). I have found that the router in the UK does not update its IP address automatically to the dns website when the UK Internet service provider changes the WAN IP of this router. This makes the IPSEC tunnel go down until I telephone the UK location and ask to force the router to update its IP address with dyndns by restarting it or by using the routers configuration to re-save the password for dynamic dns.

Apr 13, 2012I have a Cisco rv220w. I just tried updating the firmware. I used RV220W-Firmware-1.0.3.5.img. It rebooted, and now there is no DHCP and no access to anything. I tried the reset button for 10 seconds. That didn't do anything. The WAN and all the LAN lights light up. Power is on and solid. The light blinks alternating between the DMZ and the blank space to the right of wireless. How can I get this back to factory defaults?

I want to upgrade all of the units before I start on the CCNA and I'm having trouble working out what the final rommon version is for each of the routers.My 3640's are on version "Version 11.1(20)AA2". Is this the final release ?
One of my 2620's is on "Version 12.2(10r)1" and the other is on "Version 12.2(6r)". Is "10r" the final release for the 2620 ?I've also seen a few sites mention that either version "8r" or "3r" of the 2620 rommon adds support for 32MB flash SIMMs. Is that correct ?Is there a document that describes the differences between the different releases ?

Jan 29, 2013I'm using a wireless g router (f5d7230-4) which for most purposes is fine? Specifically: 1. I can't seem to stream media content from my windows 7 pc to my lg tv (model 55 lw 6500), and wonder if the age of the router is part of the problem; 2. some iptv channels on my ps3 are slow to load menus, though programs run fine when I push play (I gather ps3 is restricted to wireless g but if I upgraded the router I would plug in the ps3 using cat6). When I speed test my internet connection I'll typically get results around 2.5-5 Mbps. I'm impressed that a router of this age performs so well it isn't obvious to me that upgrading will improve the setup.

But in the new oneRV042 (V3) I have, even with latest firmware 4.2.1.02 the list is random, thereby increasing the chance of user entering DUPLICATE IP addr with diff Mac addr. That will result in conflict.If the firmware sorts the DHCP entries by ip addresses, user would be able to catch duplicate ip errors even if the system does not flag the errors. All Cisco smart engineers can you all get the dhcp entries SORT by ip addresses.

Aug 10, 2012The RV042G manual said to use this site for support so here goes. After owning and operating the RV082 for many years, I recently upgraded to the RV042G V01. Overall the RV042G hardware appears to function pretty good. The RV042G has faster throughput, but it is slightly slower in command/ control response and boot than the RV082. I have now owned the RV042G about two days and have found a number of issues. Specifically, emailing logs doesn't work.
- Emailing logs does not work. RV042G does not appear to handle any type of connection authentication, it does not have a place for the senders user name or password. I have tried SMTP servers that require no authentication and ones that do, none of them work. RV082 worked fine with the Time Warner Cable (TWC) SMTP server, RV042G does not. Additionally, there is NO output in the logs to show a failure. So TWO bugs here. I have checked settings to ensure no blocking rules, have rebooted, and even did a factory default with no luck and absolutely no mention in the logs anywhere of failure to send.Email is my primary issue, I've also identified a number of other issues as well and included them here to avoid multiple posts. These are:
- Port 0 apparently responds to interrogation and shows CLOSED (not STEALTH per grc.com). This was NOT the case for the RV082 and is a potential security vulnerability as it cannot be redirected.
- Port 1 is CLOSED and apparently responds to interrogation. This was NOT the case for the RV082. Normally I would be good on the RV082. I could redirect any OPEN or CLOSED ports to the bit bucket (192.168.1.254 for instance). BUT, the RV042G Port Forwarding is NOT sending things to the bit bucket and instead decides to OVERRIDE the forwarding and respond to queries. So there are TWO bugs here. This is a potential security vulnerability.
- The ALL Logs tab shows nothing, but sub tabs do until AFTER you hit the clear button, then it works as expected. This happens every time you open the logs. Another poster identified this problem so this is confirmation of that issue. Also, once the dialog box for the log has closed, it will not open again until leaving the page and returning.
- Authentication failures will show up in the System Log but not in the Access Log?
- HTTPS html interface works fine in Firefox. However, turn it off and use just HTTP and there is a problem. Can't see the forms and buttons, can only see the background image. This isn't as much of a problem as I can just use HTTPS, however, with the RV082 when HTTPS was activated it would open the remote management portal regardless of whether the button was clicked or not. So really a non-issue but a bug none the less.
- RV082 could send 500 log events, RV042 can only send 100. Again, not a bug but a reduction in capability over the older RV082.One last thing, your hardware version control numbers and firmware download page are confusing for the RV042G V01. Found this when I checked if there was a newer version of the firmware than what the RV042G shipped with. "Cisco RV042G Dual Gigabit WAN VPN Router"
"Firmware Release 4.2.1.02 - RV042, RV082, RV016 firmware 4.2.1.02-tm (V3 hardware required)". The problem is that you reset the hardware version in the RV042G (V01). Just seems probable that someone will download the firmware for the RV042 V01 and try to put it on the RV042G V01. I like the RV042G overall and will wait for updates for these issues (email logs would be nice sooner rather than later as this is an advertised feature). The RV082 was a great router for a long time ONCE most of the bugs were fixed, hoping the RV042G will be the same.

The Exchange can receieve emails but it will not send them. It cannot make connection to any of the smart hosts on port 25 or can't even send mail using DNS. When I run telnet my.smarthost.com 25 it will not connect but if I run that from the router then it connects fine.

Issue is when I do a "show crypto session" the GRE tunnels session status read down on the 2901 router but on the 2811 session reads up-active. Everything is working and I am routing over the GRE Tunnels.

I'd like to use this as an out-of-band connection to a remote site, if the primary internet connection fails. This config is working fine, when dialing in via a Windows Hyperterminal Dial connection. After a while of dialing I get the login prompt of the router.Now I want to have a router placing calls instead of a Windows Server. I can't figure out how to tell a router to place calls to a POTS phone number.

Jun 11, 2012I cleared the flash (disk0) on my ASA and now I'm unable to restore it with an IOS.
When I attempt to load it with an IOS, it appears to load just fine. It even proceeds to restart, but when it boots back up it displays the error "No images in / Error 15: File not found. unable to boot an image" and goes to ROMMON.
My computer's IP is 10.0.0.1. I'm assigning the ASA 10.0.0.254. The image filename is asa724-k8.bin. Here's the output of the environmental variables and the attempted loading of the IOS:

Feb 16, 2012I'm having a little trouble with a router I have got my hands on to practice for my CCNA.Im connected via serial>USB adapter and via XP HT on Win7. Router boots and I then break the boot sequence with ctrl-break. But then it does not go into ROMMON mode. It simply says this:

Typically in this scenario, i just boot from usb, and copy everything over in enable mode, but the lack of permission on this particular router has me stumped.
