Cisco Routers :: SRP526W Didn't Work With A Huawei E372

Aug 17, 2012

My SRP526W (running the actual firmware 1.01.27) didn't recognize my new Huawei E372 USB dongle (it's a T-Mobile web'n'walk Stick Business II, already installed the newest firmware 11.203.03.10.55).Using a Huawei E172 or a Huawei E353, both USB dongles works well. But they are slow compared to the E372.  I'd really like to use the E372 stick because it's super fast with up to 42Mbps download speed. As I could read in the release notes of the SRP526W, the Huawei E372 should be supported since firmware version 1.01.26.Inside the Huawei E372 you can find the printing "Model: E372u-5", maybe this is a different model which is currently not supported by the SRP526W.

Cisco Routers :: SRP526W - Forward Or Provide VPN Access For Clients?

Nov 10, 2011

We are having a SRP526W here which replaced a cheap, simple router. Now we would like to set up the VPN-access for outside clients again. So far this was done by forwarding PPTP (TCP 1723 and GRE) to the Windows 2000 Routing and RAS-server inside the network.According to this post the SRP521W, and therefore I suppose as well the SRP526W, are not able to forward GRE: [URL]

Is there a way to provide VPN access for outside clients with this router? Maybe with L2TP (but then we would need to forward ESP) or IPSec (ESP and AH as far as I know)?

If there is no solution we would need to replace this device again with a cheap, simple router which is able to forward GRE - as you can imagine, we would like to save Cisco from this shame.

Cisco Routers :: RV042G Slightly Slower In Command / Control Response And Boot

Aug 10, 2012

The RV042G manual said to use this site for support so here goes.  After owning and operating the RV082 for many years, I recently upgraded to the RV042G V01.  Overall the RV042G hardware appears to function pretty good.  The RV042G has faster throughput, but it is slightly slower in command/ control response and boot than the RV082.  I have now owned the RV042G about two days and have found a number of issues.  Specifically, emailing logs doesn't work.

- Emailing logs does not work.  RV042G does not appear to handle any type of connection authentication, it does not have a place for the senders user name or password.  I have tried SMTP servers that require no authentication and ones that do, none of them work.  RV082 worked fine with the Time Warner Cable (TWC) SMTP server, RV042G does not.  Additionally, there is NO output in the logs to show a failure.  So TWO bugs here.  I have checked settings to ensure no blocking rules, have rebooted, and even did a factory default with no luck and absolutely no mention in the logs anywhere of failure to send.Email is my primary issue, I've also identified a number of other issues as well and included them here to avoid multiple posts.  These are:

- Port 0 apparently responds to interrogation and shows CLOSED (not STEALTH per grc.com).  This was NOT the case for the RV082 and is a potential security vulnerability as it cannot be redirected.

- Port 1 is CLOSED and apparently responds to interrogation.  This was NOT the case for the RV082.  Normally I would be good on the RV082.  I could redirect any OPEN or CLOSED ports to the bit bucket (192.168.1.254 for instance).  BUT, the RV042G Port Forwarding is NOT sending things to the bit bucket and instead decides to OVERRIDE the forwarding and respond to queries.  So there are TWO bugs here.  This is a potential security vulnerability.

- The ALL Logs tab shows nothing, but sub tabs do until AFTER you hit the clear button, then it works as expected. This happens every time you open the logs.  Another poster identified this problem so this is confirmation of that issue.  Also, once the dialog box for the log has closed, it will not open again until leaving the page and returning.

- Authentication failures will show up in the System Log but not in the Access Log?

- HTTPS html interface works fine in Firefox.  However, turn it off and use just HTTP and there is a problem.  Can't see the forms and buttons, can only see the background image.  This isn't as much of a problem as I can just use HTTPS, however, with the RV082 when HTTPS was activated it would open the remote management portal regardless of whether the button was clicked or not. So really a non-issue but a bug none the less.

- RV082 could send 500 log events, RV042 can only send 100. Again, not a bug but a reduction in capability over the older RV082.One last thing, your hardware version control numbers and firmware download page are confusing for the RV042G V01.  Found this when I checked if there was a newer version of the firmware than what the RV042G shipped with. "Cisco RV042G Dual Gigabit WAN VPN Router"

"Firmware Release 4.2.1.02 - RV042, RV082, RV016 firmware 4.2.1.02-tm (V3 hardware required)".  The problem is that you reset the hardware version in the RV042G (V01).  Just seems probable that someone will download the firmware for the RV042 V01 and try to put it on the RV042G V01. I like the RV042G overall and will wait for updates for these issues (email logs would be nice sooner rather than later as this is an advertised feature).  The RV082 was a great router for a long time ONCE most of the bugs were fixed, hoping the RV042G will be the same.

Computer Not Using Correct IP Address

Sep 25, 2012

I am currently living in student halls, and so far I have been successfully using the halls' provided internet (ethernet port in wall) via a wireless router (belkin wireless ADSL). Until now.I have been unable to connect or the internet either via the router, or by direct connection to the wall.Whilst connected directly into the wall socket via the ethernet cable, my pc still thinks that I am connecting directly into the modem, and still labels the wired LAN connection as 'belkin 54g', despite the router not being connected at all.I have called the technical support for the network, and they have told me that my computer is assigning the wrong ipv4 address, and they had me do a cmd prompt and run ipconfig /reset and ipconfig /renew. This still did not solve the problem, as my PC still tried to connect with the same incorrect IP address. I know the problem is not with the ethernet port or cable, as I have tried in another room that has a working connection, and I still am unable to connect to the internet (DNS error on chrome).

The Wireless Network Security Key Is Not Correct

Dec 11, 2011

I've recently started having some odd issues with one of my computers connecting to the internet on my linksys wireless-n router from my pc. When I enter in the security settings correctly for the network I have setup here at home, it says "The wireless network security key is not correct."But I know it is, and I have confirmed on my laptop (which is using the correct settings and is having no issues at all, it's what I'm posting this with) the settings are correct. It has the correct 'Security type (wpa2-personal)', encryption type (aes), and network security key. I have restarted the pc computer and reset the router from factory settings many times, all to no avail. I've used several different linksys wireless adapters and usb slots, and it keeps on with the same issue. Kind of odd thing is, when I change the security type on my computer settings to wpa personal from wpa2 personal, and encryption type to tkip from aes, and enter the passcode correctly, it will connect to the network but with no internet access, local only. I've also connected to the wireless routers setup page (192.168.1.1.) from the laptop and confirmed settings. When I am able to connect from the pc when I change the settings and it gives me local access, I am still unable to the routers setup (192.168.1.1), so I dont know if I'm actually even connected locally when it says I am.Also, the signal strength from the network is Excellent (full bars). When I ipconfig /all ,media state is disconnected When I ping 192.168.1.1 , destination host unreachable, but received all packets with 0% loss.

Cisco :: HREAP Not Allocating Correct Ip Address WLC4402

Mar 20, 2011

I have two sites.Main site (local) has two Vlans: Vlan1 and Vlan2. Each has its own IP address range.VLAN 1 is the default Vlan and is used for CORPorate traffic. IP range 10.33.4.*VLAN 2 is for guest access to the internet IP range 10.10.10.*I have a WLC4402 on the this site with 2 WLANs: CORP on Vlan1 and GUEST on Vlan2.

Branch site (remote) which has 2 Vlans: Vlan1 and Vlan2. Each has its own IP address range.VLAN 1 is the default Vlan and is used for CORPorate traffic. IP range 10.125.15.*VLAN 2 is for guest access to the internet IP range 10.10.11.*I have an 1141 on this site using HREAP.

Locally, if you connect to CORP, you get a CORP ip address and access to CORP network. If you connect to GUEST, you get a guest ip address and guest access to the guest network. Simple so far....

Remotely, if you connect to CORP, you get a CORP ip address 10.125.15.x and access to CORP network (great). If you connect to GUEST, you get a CORP ip address 10.125.15.x and access to CORP network (not great). This is with the HREAP native vlan ID for the access point set to 2 on the controller. If I set the native vlan ID to 1 on the controller, I can not get an IP address at all.If I do not set the native vlan ID on the controller, I can not get an IP address at all.

Cisco WAN :: Setting Up Correct NAT Configuration Of 1921 Router?

May 20, 2012

i'm having some trouble setting up the correct NAT configuration of a Cisco 1921 router. The NAT is not working as I want - I think my configuration is wrong somewhere. All clients in 172.16.0.0/24 have the correct outgoing address of 1.1.1.3. But the NAT for 10.10.0.4 (and 10.10.0.5, 10.10.0.6) is partially broken: Ping and ssh from the outside world to 1.1.1.4 is "natted" to 10.10.0.4 and works as expected. But from inside (172.16.0.0/24) ssh to 1.1.1.4 should be "natted" to 10.10.0.4, but doesn't work (ping works). ssh from 172.16.0.0/24 to 10.10.0.4 (without doing NAT) works.

network design:
===============
172.16.0.0/16: network for normal use
192.168.64.0/24: network for specific clients and servers

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Correct 2960 For Small Datacentre

Jan 20, 2013

I have two cabinets in a datacentre (with 12 CAT5 links available between them), at the moment I just have a single firewall and a very basic 3Com 2824 unmanaged gigabit switch in each cabinet that are connected together.  This works perfectly as the traffic use is very light and is typically server->firewall->Internet rather than too much heavy inter-server traffic.I want to improve the redundancy and reliability however.  So I plan to get two Fortigate firewalls, put them in a HA cluster and have one in each cabinet with connections to the WAN.  The servers are all VMware so have mulitple NICs teamed.  The last bit then is between the VMware host servers and the firewalls - the switches.  I'd like to have each server connected to two switches to give multiple paths, so I'm looking at two switches per cabinet.  From doing a fair bit of reading it looks like I'll have no problem with this, STP should be able to sort out the multiple routes to whichever firewall is the active member at the time.  There will be some need for basic VLANing as I would like to separate management traffic and certain servers I wouldn't expect to exceed 5-10 VLANs.

As I said the traffic is very light and from what I can tell I don't require any "fancy" features, and given the I need to buy four switches I'm trying choose a switch that is reliable but will do the job and not much more.  If we experience growth down the road then we can buy more expensive switches then.  So I've been looking at the WS-C2960-48TT-S and the WS-C2960-48TT-L, the first using the LAN Lite software while the second uses the LAN Base.  The LAN Base version is virtually twice the price so I'm wondering if there are any features of LAN Base that are required in my scenario?  I've done quite a bit of reading but cannot really see a reason why LAN Lite should not work fine, but don't want to discover I missed something when it is too late .

Cisco :: 2504 - Access Point Not Joining Correct Controller

Apr 4, 2013

I am trying to setup a 2504 Wireless Controller with a few  AIR-AP1262N-E-K9 Access Points. But i'm having trouble getting the access points to connect to the controller. The controller and AP's are setup at a local network at one of my customers. They are part of a quite large organization and are therefore connected to some of their other divisions in different contries via MPLS. The DHCP and DNS servers are therefore on a different subnet.I have confirmed that the Access Points do get a correct IP from the DHCP server and that i am able to ping from the controller to the AP. When looking at the controller it does not receive any join requests from the AP's. I have setup a console connection to the controller and 1 AP, so i can view debug information. Most guides mention that you can run different LWAPP commands from the CLI on the AP like show lwapp for example. But i am not able to run any of these LWAPP commands on my AP.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 2950 Cannot Seem To Correct A Duplex Mismatch

May 14, 2012

I cannot seem to correct a duplex mismatch issue.I have a Cisco 2950 switch connected to a Cisco 2621 router.  I am running a per-interface Vlan.  I have two fastethernet ports and one NM-1E card installed on the router.  One fastethernet port is connected to my gateway router, the second fastethernet port is connected to my switch for one Vlan. The NM-1E Ethernet card is being used for the second Vlan which consists of nine IP cameras.  Though the cameras on the Vlan are working fine. Now, the NM-1E card is set to half-duplex.  I know that I should be using a fastethernet module like a 1FE 2W or a 2FE 2W card, (which I have,) but the router does not recogonize either one of these cards when they are installed, and yes, they have been confirmed as good cards.

Using Router-on-a-Stick configuration is out due to the bandwidth contention besides the fact that the router I am using it on will not handle this due to the flash being an older version.I have forced the switchport to half duplex, setting the speed to 10. I was getting fewer error messages at first, but they soon increased back to the frequency that they began with.I have set the switchport to duplex auto, but this failed to resolve the issue.Obviously, I cannot force the switchport into duplex full since the NM-1E interface is set to half duplex.  Can the NM-1E card be configured to full duplex?  I can't seem to find any documentation showing where it can be forced to full duplex mode.Could nine IP cameras just be too much for both the router and switch to handle?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 4507S Not Showing Correct Information

Looking at the following output (show interface status) from one of our 4507s I see gig interfaces 3/2 to 3/6 are all trunked (dot1q). When I look at a show run they do not show as trunked. They should indicate switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q and switchport mode trunk (as does interface gig4/2). I have seven other 4507s all running the same IOS: 12.2(25)EWA8 and they all show the same information in show run and show interface status (as far as trunked goes). This is not a problem as I know the interfaces are trunked and working properly I am just puzzled as to why I see this difference.

Here is the sho int gig3/2 trunk. It looks like you are correct. I did not realize some were set to trunk mode on and others were not. I would think the running config would still show the port using dot1q but I guess not.
