Cisco :: Why Can't Configure Trunk On Main Interface At Router

Oct 8, 2012

After reading a bit about interVLAN routing got a doubt regarding how trunking takes place at router and at switch. In case of switch we configure a port interface as trunk port and say all vlan's are allowed here but in case of router we configure sub interface as trunk saying particular vlan belongs to particular subinterface .Can't we configure only a single port interface on router just like Switch and say all vlan's are allowed here on this interface ,why to go for sub interfaces?

Cisco :: SIP Trunk Configuration - One Main Registered Number?

Jun 27, 2012

I have a problem with my SIP trunk config. I can receive calls, but unfortunately I cannot dial. I found out why, and it is because I have one main registered number from TISP, and I am trying to dial with the phone number from the block. That is why I am receiving unauthorized messages when I enable debug ccsip messages. I called TISP and they said that I should always use main number and to send my number via P-Asserted id. or via P-Preferred Id. how to configure this ? I found only this conf.

Commands:
dial-peer voice tag
viace-class sip asserted-id pai or ppi

I tried with this but it didn't work. I don't know where to say what I need to insert , and instead of what .

Cisco VPN :: ASA5510 Best Place To Configure Outbound QoS From Main Office

Jun 10, 2012

We have a main office and 4 remote offices (only showing 1 remote office in the diagram). We are using GRE over IPSec VPNs to the remote offices which terminate on the 2811 router in the main office. We are using the 2811 as it is the only device that we have that can terminate GRE. The 2811 router is connected to the outside switch and is configured with a public IP address. We also have a ASA5510 in the main office which is connected in the same manner and is used for Web, e-mail traffic etc. Both the main office and remote offices have a 10Mbps Internet connection.

We have an issue with voice quality between sites as we are finding it difficult to control bandwidth utilization in the main office. When users in the main office download web content it can saturate the 10Mbps Internet connection causing voice quality issues. We have configured outbound shaping on the branch routers to make sure that aggregate inbound traffic from all branches to the main office does not saturate the link but we cannot control traffic from the Internet.I understand that controlling inbound traffic from the Internet is difficult without controlling QoS on the ISPs side. Is there any way that can reserve inbound bandwidth to ensure that web traffic does not impact voice? Also in this design, which is the best place to configure outbound QoS from the main office?

Cisco :: Configure A 2940 Switch To Trunk?

Apr 24, 2012

I'm trying to configure a 2940 switch to trunk. I just can't get it to work.On the interface I have added: switchport mode trunk The default is encap for this switch is dot1q, so there is no need, or ability to add/change the encap mode. Also all vlans are being allowed by default. I still can't get any port to trunk. Need to get G0/1 to trunk, have also tried to trunk f0/6 to the switch in my office. Also can't find the command to change the management VLAN. I do not use vlan 1 for management. Can I change the Mang VLAN on this switch?

Cisco :: 2504 Configure Rogue Detector AP And Trunk Port?

Dec 14, 2012

I'm using a 2504 controller.  I dont have WCS.My questions are about the best way to configure a Rogue Detector AP.

In my lab environment I setup the WLC with 2 APs.  One AP was in local mode, and I put the other in Rogue Detector mode. The Rogue Detector AP was connected to a trunk port on my switch.  But the AP needed to get its IP address from the DHCP server running on the WLC.  So I set the native vlan of the trunk port to be the vlan on which the WLC management interface resides.  If the trunk port was not configured with a native vlan, the AP couldn't get an address through DHCP, nor could the AP communicate with the WLC.  This makes sense because untagged traffic on the trunk port will be delivered to the native vlan.  So I take it that the AP doesn't know how to tag frames.Everything looked like it was working ok.

So I connected an autonomous AP (to be used as the rogue), and associated a wireless client to it.  Sure enough it showed up on the WLC as a rogue AP, but it didn't say that it was connected on the wire.  From the rogue client I was able to successfully ping the management interface of the WLC.
But the WLC never actually reported the rogue AP as being connected to the wired network. So my questions are:

1. What is the correct configuration for the trunk port?  Should it not be configured with a native vlan?  If not, then I'm assuming the rogue detector AP will have to have a static IP address defined, and it would have to be told which vlan it's supposed to use to communicate with the WLC.

2.  Assuming there is a rogue client associated with the rogue AP, how long should it reasonably take before it is determined that the rogue AP is connected to the wired network?  I know this depends on if the rogue client is actually generating traffic, but in my lab environment I had the rogue client pinging the management interface of the WLC and still wasn't being picked up as an on-the-wire rogue.

Cisco :: Why Wouldn't Use Spanning - Tree Portfast On Trunk Port Other Than Trunk Between Two Switches

Apr 11, 2013

Is there really any reason why you wouldn't use spanning-tree portfast on a trunk port other than a trunk between two switches? We have it enabled on all ports except for the fiber trunk between two non-stacked switches and the trunk ports connected to our Astaro firewall.I'd like to enable it on the ports to the firewall unless that would cause issues.

Cisco VPN :: Configure ASA5510 For L2L VPN Not Using Outside Interface?

Apr 2, 2013

I currently have an ASA5510 with 2 interfaces (outside and Inside) running remote VPN for clients and L2L VPN for a couple of sites. I have traffic entering the inside interface, matching interesting traffic, being wrapped up in IKE / IPSEC and sent out via the outside interface. All straightforward so far.Now I have a new VPN which is required to go over another interface and not the outside. The traffic comes in to the inside interface as normal and should be matched via ACL, encrypted and sent out th e new interface however the traffic is simply sent out of the outside interface and doesn't get any IKE headers. If I reconfigure the interface to be be the outside it does at least match the ACL, wrap it up nicely in IKE and try to get to get to the remote peer.My questions are why does this behaviour occur and why isnt the traffic marked interesting and sent out the new interface.I don't have any issues creating a new VPN if I want it to go external, I just add the required information to the outside_map but i need the traffic to be encrypted and sent over another interface. I not a huge fan of the GUI for this but I've tried both CLI and GUI with the same results.

Wireless :: How To Connect Third Linksys WRT 54GL To Main Router

Apr 12, 2011

I have a network where I have two wireless routers wired to a third (main) router. I want to connect a third wireless (Linksys WRT 54GL) to the main router, but I want to connect wirelessly (without any cables). I have tried to bridge it,ie disabling DHCP and assigning a static IP address which is in the same range as the main router but still if i connect my laptop using the third router I cant log onto the internet and worst still I cant ping the main router. The main router is the one that is connected to the proxy server. My connections are as follows, from the wireless antenna the cable goes to the proxy server's wan port, the main wireless router is linked to the server's lan port.My server's LAN ip is 192.168.0.1 and the main wireless router is 192.168.0.2 I have two other routers which are wired to this main wireless router and their local IP addresses are 192.168.0.4 and 192.168.0.5 respectively. I want to connect a third wireless router to the main router but this time without using a cable. What i have done so far is I have assigned it the IP address 192.168.0.6 and I have disabled DHCP,all the other settings I have put the same as the main wireless router.

Cisco :: How To Configure IP On Layer 3 Interface On Nexus

Apr 11, 2011

With most of my Layer2/Layer3 switches, I'm accustom to giving them a SVI on my management VLAN, and calling it a day. I can't find in the Cisco Nexus guides how to do something similar; everything points to the mgmt0 physical interface, which seems like I need to uplink it to an access port on another switch. Can somebody point me in the right direction for how to do give the Nexus an IP that I can ssh/snmp into it across a trunk for management? I must just be missing the keyword.. NX-OS is still quite a different beast.I see in the manual it says: "SSH has the following prerequisites: You have configured IP on a Layer 3 interface, out-of-band on the mgmt 0 interface or inband on an Ethernet interface." ip address dhcp

How do I remove Fe4 from VLAN1? There is some existing config around VLAN 1:

interface Vlan1
ip address 10.73.0.1 255.255.255.0
ip helper-address 192.168.140.13
ip tcp adjust-mss 1400
no autostate
 ip sla 100
icmp-echo 10.64.4.15 source-interface Vlan1

Then I guess I need to adjust my Internet-IN ACL to allow broadcasts and UDP 67 and 68?
