I need to upgrade a 1230 to the new Aironet 1250 at a location. I have only 2 external antennas at that location.
I understand that you still can run 802.11n with 2 antennas. But I can not find anywhere in WLC 5508 v7.2 that I can disable the middle nut (C)
When using dipole antennas such as AIR-ANT 4941 with the 2.4 Ghz 1250 AP, must the antennas be spaced EXACTLY as far apart as the antenna connectors on the AP, or can the dipoles be spread further out, say to 4" spacing.

Phone is forced for reregistration to call manager during the hand off. Same customer has dipole antenna in a different floor with 1250 AP and there is no issue observed for voice clients.
Is this an issue with monopole antenna ? Which is the best antenna to recommend for Cisco APs or wht is the occasion I need to use a dipole or monopole antenna ? How to understand the difference between them.
Can I use the 2.4ghz (product #)air-ant1728 antenna on the new 802.11a cardbus?
View 3 Replies View RelatedI can no longer open a http or https connection to the AP. I do have ssh access and I can log in with full privileges.
I was using the Web interface a few days ago and it did something strange during an update. The display of the web page became corrupted and no longer responded to my input.
I restarted it from an ssh session and I have also power cycled it via the power injector. Neither method has worked.
What should I do next or what additional info can I provide from an ssh shell?
Physical access is very difficult. It requires a 30' ladder after 10 p.m. So, I would like to avoid that if possible.
upgraded my home AP from Autonomous to Lwapp. I was an Idiot and thought i was getting an IOS upgrade. I need to revert it back to autonomous and a simple "mode" button reset doesnt work. I read that I need to Reload original IOS software, but It appears I cant get it without a support contract. I cant afford servicenet and need to obtain old ios to revert to factory default 12.4(10b)JA1. Do I need a contract to roll back? Is there an archive (backup image) of the old IOS that could be still stored on the device. I didnt back it up and need to obtain the image.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an Aironet 1250 AIR-LAP1252AG-A-K9 I am having issues with, and I am hoping for some direction on how to resolve them. I understand this question has been posted many times many different ways, but i have no luck unfortunately. Here is where I am: I can terminal into the AP, which has been set to factory default, with the username and password and enable password of Cisco. Once I am in the enable mode, I get lost.
Usually there would be an option to go to config. t, and work from there, but this AP does not have that option, Actually if I do a ? at the enable prompt, the commands list only starts with the letter C; but none are config.
I also cannot get into the web interface of the AP. The AP gets a DHCP IP from my DHCP server, (192.1681.128/24) but I cannot get into the web interface using the IP it gets from DHCP. The page never comes up. To add to the confusion, I cannot turn off the CLI event logging, although I enter the command "no debug all". Maybe I am off on what to put in. Nonetheless, it drives me crazy with messages every two seconds as I am trying to type while attempting to figure things out.
Overall, from reading the forums and doing Google searches, I am going on the assumption that the AP is now in lightweight mode, as opposed to autonomous mode, which is where I want it to be. I have tried the method of updating the firmware to the autonomous firmware from Jan 2013 for the AP. I use the TFTP method as I have found here on the forums a few times; I hold the mode button down while applying power to the AP, let the system LED turn red and release the button so the TFTP process can go through, but nothing changes.
I have the AP powered from a gigabit POE switch. The computer I am using for the TFTP is on the same sub net as the AP. I have tried using 10.0.0.6/24 for the computer with the TFTP on it, made sure the view all file extensions option was checked, and renamed the firmware to the .default extension-still nothing updates.
I also noticed that once I hold the mode button down for 20-30 seconds then let it go, the CLI output says the AP it is on the 10.0.0.x sub net, but I cannot ping the computer with the TFTP program on it. If i try to, it get a "Command not supported" message. So I will go on the idea that this is most likely why I cannot do a TFTP update.
About 30 seconds after I release the mode button and the AP boots, it will say it has a 10.0.0.x IP address, then it starts going crazy with messages that it cannot find a DHCP server.
I have a cisco wireless power injector for Aironet 1250 but I called Cisco and was told this can't be found in the system.

When I turned off the AIRONET 1250, the 3COM AP settings works fine. View 2 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco Aironet 1242G and an outdoor omni 12 dbi antenna. I hooked it all up to day (antenna is connected with a 100ft cable). My signal is very disappointing. I have it behind a garage and can only get about maybe 75 foot away and the signal gets very weak.
Is there something that needs to be configured in the aironet? I have enabled external antenna and played with the settings. Is the 12 dbi antenna just too much?

The radio shows as down on the controller GUI. The error message on the GUI is that the 'Regulatory Domain' is not supported. This can be seen from the attached screenshot. I spent a few days, but did not get the result. I'm connected at speeds 65/130Mbit, but the real speed tests never exceeded 45Mbit. The AP from the test laptop is 7-10 meters.I tested the laptops with a Linksys AP E1200-EE ( 40Mhz, FastEthernet uplink port...)and received nearly 100Mbit!
At WLC5508 able to connect at speeds 150/300Mbit/c but only in the 5GHz band, but real speed tests never exceeded 70Mbit.In 2.4Ghz range I connected at speeds of 130/144Mbit/c, but actual measurements showed no more than the 45Mbit.
All tested with iperf and with site speedtest.net.

We ordered 2 Cisco AIR-LAP1242AG-E-K9 Wireless Access Points with 4 AIR-ANT5135D-R antennas.We accidentally ordered the 5GHz antennas instead of the 2.4GHz antennas.Would it be possible to use the 5GHz antennas as 2.4GHz antennas?If so, are there any down sides to it?

Since some time now the space has become really crowded with access points. 1 AP is on channel 5 and is almost unusable. The 2nd one on channel 11 has some APs to fight with and with smaller signall strenght.
I have been researching and read a bit about changing some access point parameters (RTS/CTS/timers) on a multi access point environment. I want to do that while waiting for 5GHz AP's (and because not all clients support 5GHz).
I purchased a EA4500 and at first I could connect to it through its default ciscoxxxxx ssid on my laptop which is 2.4GHz only. I upgraded the firmware using the PC utility and now I can't find the 2.4GHz SSID no matter what settings I do. I've disabled and enabled it multiple times, changed it to have no security or with security and enabled and disabled it and renabled it. Nothing seems to work, but for some reason the 5GHz side I can connect to using a 5GHz device. I've also tried disabling the 5GHz side, but still no 2.4GHz.
View 4 Replies View RelatedDecided to go with the e4200v2. 199.99 for a router 450 + 450 with a little extra features. very pricey but thought it would be worth it. I got it hooked up with no problems for the first 5 minutes. I have 35mbps down wired from the router and on the 2.4 and 5.0 ghz band about 25 feet from the router was getting just that!! no loss really. However after a few more speed test i noticed it was fluctuating very slow to fast. Also the 2.4ghz was only 144mbps. after getting in the router i changed the 2.4ghz to channel 6 and 5ghz to 153 and changed to 20mhz only on the 2.4 and 40mhz only on the 5.0ghz. Now all is doing well .
1. why am i not able to run the 2.4ghz on 40mhz? when set to auto i have a lot slower speed tests even know it is running on 20mhz only because I'm only getting 144mbps. I don't know why its not running 40mhz ? i don't know why i have to change it to 20mhz only why cant i leave it on auto and if i had a day with little interference it would switch to 40? when left on auto the speeds go down drastically
2. i notice that some channels are brutally slow on both bands. like 1.5mbps ? is this normal
3. is this even worth it if the 2.4 band is acting this way?
4. from insider i see that 5.0ghz only connects to two channels isn't suppose to be 3?
My 2.4 GHz is not working corrently on my EA3500 router. I have no trouble with my 5 GHz which I am currently on. On my iPhone I have to manually click the network even though it is known and then the wifi icon lights up full then goes dim then just flashes til it gives up. If I try connecting with my computer it just doesn't load the internet.

Each access point has a 5.0GHZ 4.5dbi Cisco omnidirectional antenna, although the AP only supports 2.4GHZ.
Q1. Why a 5.0ghz antenna might had been used with a 2.4ghz AP, and if we can expect increased performance if we replace the antennas with 2.4ghz ones?
Q2. On the controller, the antenna gain is set to 0 for each AP. Is there also a benefit to leaving that 0 as opposed to 9 for 4.5dbi?
I'd like to set up a 2.4Ghz and a 5Ghz SSID at the same time, using one Cisco AP541N-E-K9. But I can't figure out any way to do so.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI purchased a e4200 in hopes that its dual band capability would allow us to run a 2.4ghz network for certain devices and a 5ghz for everyone else. I am able to setup the router and connect but it seems when the 2.4ghz network drops the router drops all connections.
At first I had the networks setup with the same ssid, then changed the 5ghz network to a new ssid but was still losing connection when the 2.4ghz network dropped. This may be a simple routing issue i am overlooking (bit of a network newbie).
On my new E4200, I cannot connect wirelessly to the 2.4GHZ band. I can only connect to the 5GHZ band. I know its not the distance because i've got my laptop only 2 feet away. I've hit the refresh wireless network button, but the only network visible is my 5GHZ. I've also restarted the router, no luck
I went into the router settings and made sure that BOTH SSID'S are broadcasting a signal.and are enabled (ive got the channel and other settings set to auto). I'm able to connect perfectly well to the 5GH band, and walk around the house, but nothing i've done, allows me to see the 2.4GHZ band? So far, my wireless reception is poorer than my old wrt310n.
