I am using 5 Cisco 1200 Series APs with both an A and G radio. Is there a benefit/problem to running both simultaneously? I would have one SSID and is setup for Fast Roaming as well.
View 1 RepliesI have a office network that was setup before I started. We have a 172. subnet and a 10.2 subnet. When users on Wifi get a 10.2 address ( ran out of 172 address ) they are not able to get out to the internet. But if the laptop is connected to a LAN port and get a 10.2 address they are able to get to the Internet. Not sure if its the Aps I need to configure or the Pix seeing that if they get a LAN address of 10.2 everything works. This is becoming a bigger issue now that the company has out grown its main subnet (172.)

I am running the upgrade tool on Aironet AP1230B-A-K9. I can't join the controller by using the upgrade tool. the error is "AP does not have Supported Radio". What radio is the upgrade tool or controller look for on Aironet 1200 series? This AP is running 802.11b. However, I have several APs which the same model is running on the same one controller. The controller is model 4402.

When i connect the ap to the network i can ping from ap to wlc and the wlc to ap, but the proccess of lwapp messages give errors on the Ap when the Ap try to download the image from wlc and could not join the wlc. why this could be? this is the info of the wireless lan controller.

View 17 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco 1200 Series (AIR-AP1231G-A-K9) access point, I have been upgrading these models to lightweight mode but are having issues with one in particular, this access point keeps "rebooting" itself, I am assuming that the upgrade failed, how can I get the access point upgraded?
When I start to access the AP by typing "enable" and enter the password it starts resetting again.
I have reset the AP by the mode button, power option but still not working.
At this point I would even accept a fix to get it back to working condition. Here is a capture.

I have a Cisco Aironet 1200 Series Access Point. It takes long time to boot up.
After showing the warning banner message it takes long time before asking for username.

I have a WCS, four 5508 controllers, Cisco 3750X switches, and both autonomous Cisco 1200, and LightWeight 3502i in service.The problems I am having, is that some of my Access Point reset for no apparent reason, and I get alerted by my NMS.When I look at the switch port, that connects an access point that reported down, I see the POE switch port went down and back up in 4 seconds, just long enough for the access point to reset.There are no errors on the switch port(s). No cable or speed/duplex issues. Switch IOS: c3750e-universalk9-mz.122-55.se1
There are no other pertinent entries in the switch log. Just that the port went down and then back up. Always in 4 seconds.When a reset happens the WCS reports on the access point: '802.11/b/g/n' interface of AP associated to controller 172.20.0.x is down. Reason: Indicates that while the radio state should be updated on controller, no reset should be reported.But nothing else, except that the radio came back up.
This is happening two or three times a day, and rotates. It seems that it never happens at the same time of the day, or the same access point, or the same switch. (I have over 1000 access points and 500 switches in service)I am curious if the WCS is automatically resetting the access point radios, which is causing the switch port to go down/up?And if so, is it possible to turn off the automatic reset?
My co-workers and I have been trying to diagnose a problem that recently started occuring on our AP1141N and AP1142N units. I have found a handful of posts that talk about this issue, but none with a solid solution. It seems that as often as every 24 hours, the radio interfaces change state to down, for seemingly no reason. Once this occurs, the only way to bring the radio interface back up is to reboot the AP. As far as we know, this wasn't happening until recently, when we enabled the "N" speeds. Things were working correctly for a year or two while the APs were configured just for b/g operation. The following is the only seeminlg-relevant thing that shows up in the logs:
*Nov 12 00:53:02.508: %LINK-5-CHANGED: Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to reset
*Nov 12 00:53:03.507: %LINEPROTO-5-UPDOWN: Line protocol on Interface Dot11Radio0, changed state to down
Some additional info:
- All of the APs are connected to PoE Cisco c2960 switches
- We have tried both hard-coded radio channels, and non hard-coded
- We have tried various ways setting power inline negotiation
- We are not using a WLC
- System Software Version: 12.4(21a)JA1
- Bootloader Version: 12.4(18a)JA3
I have attached output of sh run, sh log and sh controlers dot11Radio0. (Another oddiy - the line %DOT11-2-RESET_RADIO hasn't shown up in the other logs I have viewed after this issue occurs...)
One week ago I use a WLC 5508 to place and replace another WLC 5508 with version 6.0.199.4, when I conect the new WLC all AP´s works OK only 10 dont work and not are recognizes from the WLC with version 7.3.101.0. The fail is the radios stay disabled. All ap´s are AIR-AP1242G-AK9 . See the image below, the only difference this ten AP´s are conected in switches cisco all the rest are connected in switches of ohter vendor. The Module in the 6500 is a WS-X6348-RJ-45 The Option "Power Injector installed" on the WLC is also enabled, with the MAC Address from the Switchport, but no change.When i disable CDP on the mentioned Switch Port and reload the AP, it comes up and runs fine.
I'm trying to configure Cisco 1262 AP's to allow me to use the 2.4 gHz radio for client access and the 5.x radio for the repeater connection back to a root AP connected to a LAN.
I have already configured the AP's to associate with each other via the 5.x radio, and have a client connected to the repeater AP via the 2.4 gHz radio. From my laptop on the LAN, I can connect to the repeater AP, but I cannot ping nor otherwise communicate with the distant client.
When I use the 2.4 gHz radio for repeater mode, clients that connect to the repeater AP can be seen and communicated with.Is there something special that needs to be done to get my desired scenario to work?All radios are members of bridge group 1.
I am trying to enable the workgroup bridge mode on the 5ghz 802.11N radio of a Aironet 1262N, but when I select the workgroup bridge mode from the GUI the radio becomes disabled. If I select the Access Point role from the GUI then the radio instantly becomes enabled. The same thing happens if I attempt the same procedure with the 2.4ghz radio as well. I can get the radios from both bands enabled if I select the Access Point role. I made sure to check that both radios were not set to workgroup bridge as well. I am running 12.4(25d)JA1 code on the AP. This is my first time working with this type of AP.

However, I have 2 Wi Fi Radios that will pick up the network but will not connect and go into a network connect time out. One of the radios also has a hardwired connection and that is working fine. I have checked and double checked the network name, WPA key, etc. Of course I have reset all the radios and reenter new data many times, both manually and auto.

I realise the AP name field comes from the device itself, but it seems impossible to rename the device too since I'm running on lightweight, correct?

When it goes down hard all three lights are still green as if the AP is still up. We verified the IOS with other stores and everything is the same on the configurations, versions, and IOS.

I can't ask my teacher for any questions, cause he doesn't know how to configure it also, THAT's why he's asking me to do it.I've learned a lot of things about the default static interfaces (the "management" and "ap_manager" interface), but i can't seem to fully understand how to configure it.I want to use the Internal DHCP server of the WLC. How I can get those 2 Access Points working on the WLC. I only seem to get DHCP issues.
This is what i've done:
- Leave the configuration of the "management" and the "ap_manager" default (172.16.1.30 and 172.16.1.30). Bound to port 1
- Made a new interface "AP1" with IP-Address 10.0.0.10 (/24), default gateway 10.0.0.1. Primary DHCP server: 172.167.1.30
- Made a new interface "AP2" with IP-Address 192.168.1.10 (/24), default gateway 192.168.1.1. Primary DHCP server: 172.167.1.30
- Made 2 DHCP scopes within the 192.168.1.0 and 10.0.0.0 networks.
For some reason, when i boot up both AP's, the won't get any DHCP address.
I have two wireless networks configured in the AP1200, both SSIDs are configured with WPA.
SSID 01: configured whit WPA
SSID 02: configured whit WPA
I have configured the access-list number 700, and I would like to apply to a single network. Achieving the following:
SSID 01 : WPA + Mac Filter, using the ACL number 700.
SSID 02: WPA
How I can apply the list 700 to the first SSID only ??

For the past week, I've been looking to implement wireless technology at our educational site. We've conducted some tests with an AP1200 and we were satisfied with the performances of 802.11a standards.
Since one of our requirements is bandwidth, we are looking to implement a 802.11g standard for that need. Unfortunately, Cisco does not offer any client access adapter for that 11g standard as opposed of the competition. What kind of client adapter (PCMCIA) can Cisco recommend to work with AP1200 under the 802.11g ?
I have 2 Cisco 1200 G AP's connecting 2 different locations. Location A ( La ) I have a RVO82 router connected to a 50Mbit cable connection. I have an AP setup there using a 1 Watt booster and a 24db wire grid directional antenna. Only one antenna here, the other disabled.
At Location B (Lb ), about 1.5 miles away, with good to excellent line of site, i have the other setup as a WGB with a 15db wire grid directional antenna with a 1 Watt booster. Also only one antenna here, the other disabled.
WGB feeds a simple 8 port switch and in that switch i have a simple belkin wireless router setup as an AP for Lb's wireless access,
The signal strenght between the two locations is -49 to -52 db, depending on what time of day I check it.
I have had this setup for a couple of years now. I recently switched from a 3Mbit DSL connection to the 50Mbit cable connection hoping to increase my bandwidth with no luck.

When I first set this up i had a 6Mbit cable connection and it maxxed out at 5 Mbit at Lb. I thought i would be able to add more boosters and antennas as time went on to go from half duplex to full duplex (the way i think of it is one antenna receiving and the other sending, at both locations) so that when our ISP had faster rates available, i could upgrade. I recently read somewhere on the net that it is not possible to run full duplex in the AP to WGB setup i have. Is that true?
My main concern is increasing bandwidth on the WGB side Lb. When i upgraded to 50Mbit, i still only max out at 5mbit at Lb. Before i thought it was due to not being full duplex or weaker signal strengths (I've always had the 1watt booster at Lb, then i added one later to La with no benefit noticed except signal strength is better and uploads seem faster from Lb....)
Cannot connect network radios after upgrading to latest firmware. Could connect before upgrading firmware but throughput was slow for computers and streaming. Now I can connect computers, but not radios. They connect ok using Belkin and Linksys routers.

I would like to be able to pass traffic from the ethernet port to the root AP VIA the AP in client mode. The Ap in client mode shows the radio in blocking when in client mode, is this normal? Is there a way to manually change this to forwarding mode?
View 4 Replies View Related I've got an iPad2, which works without issue at home (1130 AP/ASA5505), but at my office, we have a 1200 series AP. It's hit and miss, but other people who bring iPads in have noticed the same issue--our internal SSID is non-broadcast. Even though the SSID is previously configured and works on occassion, there are times where it won't even see the SSID at all to connect.
This happens with iPad and iPad2, iOS4 and iOS5...
LIke i said, works fine on my non-broadcast SSID at my home on an 1130 AP...
