Sep 4, 2012Both of these model units apear to have a max Internet downlink speed of about 26 or 27Mbs. I have tested this with 10 different units at 3 different sites where the provided broadband downlink speed is a full 50Mbs, including in my own office. My normal router is a Cisco ASA5505 and I have also connected a Cisco 1840 router and even an old Linksys router and all achieve the full 50MBs speed using a variety of speed test sites. The cable modem at my office and at the other sites have a gigabit LAN connection and the RVS4000/WRVS4400N units certainly should be able to achieve the 50Mbs speed. If this issue can not be resolved, my clients will no doubt want me to install a different manufacturer's unit, which I will do.

May 3, 2013I have a Cisco WRVS4400N Gigabit Router. I recently upgraded my Internet service to 50MB download speed. When I connect directly to the cable modem and run a speed test, using speedtest.net, I get 59MB download speed consistently. When I connect the modem to the router and plug into one of the 4 ports the speed is cut in less than half. The max speed is cut to between 23-24 MB download speeds. I have tried this via wireless as well with the same result.

Dec 10, 2012Recently I upgraded my Internet speed at the ISP from 10Mbps to 25Mbps and the problem is that I am measuring only 15Mbps using [URL]On the day when the tech came out to install the new DSL modem, he noticed the difference and as part of troubleshooting, he bypassed the Linksys router and voila the net speed measured 25Mbps using speedtest.net.So, why my Linksys WRVS4400N V1.1.13 acts like a bottleneck in this case? I didn't have this problem at the speed of 10Mbps. The upload speed is OK, it is 5Mbs with or without the DSL modem.

Dec 28, 2010I just discovered that my wireless download speeds are 5Mbps, compared to 16Mbps if my laptop is connected directly to the modem or wired through the router. Uploads are 2Mbps either way. I have a WRT54GS v.6 with firmware version v1.52.8 which I updated today, completed by setting factory default through the router webpage after I discovered this discrepancy. The firmware update did not improve the download speed appreciably, if at all.Should the wireless connection be that much slower than the wired connection through the router? If not, what sort of issues could I be having to account for this?
I did just replace my modem when I discovered I was having erratic speedtests and that corrected that problem. That is when I became aware of the wireless issue, so not sure how long that has been the case. I have Charter's 16/2 HSI, living in a sparsely populated area with solid internet service. There is no external nor internal interference on this 2.4Ghz band.

Jan 11, 2011Recently my desktop has experienced very slow download speeds (~0.11 Mbps), however the upload speed appears to be in line (~2.0Mbps). These numbers are taken from Comcast's speed test (my ISP). It is obviously a problem with my PC because everything else on the network (PS3, Laptop) have great signals with no problems. I just recently reverted the Desktop back to its factory state, and everything was working fine for a couple of months. The desktop in question uses Vista 32-bit and the Belkin Basic USB Wireless Adapter.

May 12, 2010I hardly try to get WDS running with two WRVS4400N v2.The manual (and the web interface) says: "Note: The WDS feature allows WRVS4400N to connect with up to 3 wireless repeaters that can be either WRVS4400N or WAP200." But I wasn't successful by now in getting it working..What I've done so far:
- Setup the primary WRVS as Gateway, WAN through Modem, LAN and WLAN using WPA2 Personal Mixed, DHCP
- works perfect
- Setup the second WRVS as Router using the same WLAN settings, no WAN and no DHCP
- Enabling WDS on both WRVS, giving each the MAC address of the other
- no connection to LAN or WAN through the second WRVS
I really need the second WRVS act like a bridge. Since the manual is saying that I can connect both devices through WDS I bought two of them. On the other hand I've now read somewhere in the community, that this isn't possible with two WRVS (?)

Nov 22, 2011I've got an out of the box WRVS4400N and it will not pick up a DHCP IP from the ISP.
I reset to factory defaults, tried another ISP, returned and got a second wrvs4400n all the same results - no IP address on the WAN port. The internet LEDs are blinking but no IP on WAN port and no internet connection from a laptop connected to wrvs4400n.
I even tried turning of the firewall too.
Is there something with these routers that needs to be done for internet access?
Most typical small routers are just set up as a DHCP client on the WAN side and DHCP server on the LAN side.

Jun 1, 2010I have a D-Link DSL-320B ADSL2+ Ethernet modem that connects to the internet fine if I am using just 1 computer. However I have bought a Cisco WRVS4400N to enable me to get all of the other computers at home on the network (wired and wireless).
The WRVS4400N picks up a WAN address from the D-Link BUT I just cannot get an internet connection, just "Local" only. I have tried setting it up as a gateway, as a router, upgraded the firmware but it just is not having it. My previous experience with routers has been just to plug em in and let them get on with it. The WRVS4400N is proving very troublesome.

I have some older PC's, as well as my PS3, that we use to use on the network and they only connect B/G. I have tried auto DHCP and static IP on the bridge. I already have a cable modem that will provide both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses as they are rolled out.

When they are attached via the wireless signal it drops frequently. WPA personal is being used to encrypt. I have also installed the latest firmware and am having the same results. Once I make a wired conection, it performs flawlessly. The firmware is up to date. I have read some reviews of this router on Amazon stating the same problem, but I expected it to be solved with firmware update. Unfortunately, this was not the case.

My issue is I need to set the Remote Group to 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 so all traffic is forced via IPsec tunnel and not out the local gateway. When I do the error, Remote Security Group and Local Security Group cannot be in the same network. However, it works with Cisco/Linksys RV042.

Nov 2, 2011I've been searching high and low and although I've found many results of people having this same exact problem there doesn't seem to be a fix, or at least no one was kind enough to post one. I have many vlans but the 3 in question are 10, 20, 30.
-10 is for my laptops and desktops with an ip range of 192.168.10.10 - 192.168.10.50.
-20 is my home automation network with an orange of 192.168.20.20 - 192.168.20.150
-30 is my guest network with a orange of 192.168.30.84 - 192.168.30.89
I have a dell powerconnect configured with vlans as my core switch. I trunked a port on the switch assigning 3 vlans (10,20,30) and connected it to port 1 on the wrvs4400N. On the wrvs4400 I trunked port 1 tagging vlan 10,20,30. For some reason vlan 1 is untagged on port 1 and I don't know why. I also have a router connected to the powerconnect. Of the 3 vlans I mentioned vlan 10 and vlan 30 are the only ones with interfaces on the router. Vlan 20 is an internal network with a separate router and until I figure this out that router is physically turned off. Also the router currently turned on has no routes configured to connect my vlans. Currently there is no configured way to jump vlans.
No matter what ssid I connect to I get a dhcp response from vlan 10. all my test indicates that I'm actually on vlan 10. I get internet and I can hit all devices on vlan 10. If I connect to ssid guest and change my ip address to match vlan 30 I can not ping the gateway for vlan 30 and I have no internet access. Some times I get something different. Sometimes I get an ip address from vlan 1 on the powerconnect. If I renew my ip address then I'll grab one from vlan 10 but I should be getting one from 30 or none at all for vlan 20. The absolute crazy part is my droid sometimes gets a 192.168.4.x ip address. I don't have a 192.168.4.x network or dhcp scope anywhere on my network! If I physically plug into a port on the power connect I get to the correct network 10 out of 10 times. If I configure vlans on the other 3 ports on the wrvs4400 and physically plug in, I get to the correct network 10 out of 10 times. I've reset to factory a few times and I've been all inside and out of the wrvs4400. I have no clue what could be wrong with this thing.

Cisco Routers :: WRVS4400N Dropping Wireless Clients
Jul 17, 2011I have several wired and wireless devices connected to the router which is running the latest firmware (2.0.2.1) and I have this issue with all wireless devices. The router is configured for B/G/N Mixed, Channel 6, and to broadcast the SSID. Security Mode is WPA2-Personal w/ key renewal set to 3600. Connection control is configured to allow only the desired MAC addresses. All wireless clients are configured for DHCP (as are some of the wired clients that do not have this issue). I have tried various setting changes over time, none of which have resolved the issue.
What I have determined, and may be useful, is that each time this occurs I am unable to ping the router from the client and have no connectivity to the internet or other devices on the network. If I ping the WAP address (reserved for internal use address) I get a response and then connectivity is always restored after doing so. In other words, I ping 192.168.1.1 and get no response, immediately ping 192.168.1.2 and get a response, then immediately ping 192.168.1.1 and now get a response and connectivity is restored. If I skip the first step and just ping the reserved address followed by the router address result is always the same. It would appear the issue is between the the two router addresses.
Prior to owning this router I had a Linksys BEFSX41 that I had for about 7-8 years and a WAP54G I had for about 5, both of which still worked and I never had this issue with my wireless clients. I went to this router for the increased performance and am very happy with that aspect, however this issue is unacceptable.

Jan 27, 2013We have an office with about 10 PCs, and several other network devices (smartphones, printers, etc). Some PCs and printers are wired, some are not. About two weeks ago, some (6) of the wireless devices lost connectivity. Since then, some (4) of the devices have also recovered normal connectivity.
As of right now, there are two computers, a laptop and a desktop, that cannot use the wireless network. They see the wireless network, connect to it, receive an IP via DHCP properly, have correct DNS servers listed in ipconfig, but they can't ping the router, use the intranet, or internet.

Aug 10, 2011I have a WRVS4400N that broadcasts two different SSIDs. One is a public network and the second is a private network. Right now, both SSIDs are pulling from the same DHCP server, but I would like to separate the public from the private. How can I separate these SSIDs by vlans? I can't seem to get the vlans to route to separate ports.
This is my vlan settings. I have two DHCP servers right now. One is in an isolated network plugged into Port 3 of the WRVS4400N. The other is on the production network, plugged into port 1 of the WRVS4400N. For some reason, whenever I connect to SSID Public, it won't pull an IP from the DHCP on port 1, it only pulls it from the one on port 2.
I know there is three SSIDs here, the Static one is going to be the same network as the EMS one.

Nov 29, 2011I just purchased a Toshiba Thrive tablet and I can't get it to connect to my wireless router. My router (WRVS4400N) works flawlessly with my laptop and desktop. I have spoken to a Cisco tech rep and they assured me that there is not a compatibility problem with the WPA-Personal setting I am using. When I speak to a Toshiba tech they tell me I have a router conflict. To verify this I went to my local Starbucks and low and behold it logged right on with no problem (The Starbucks system was not a protected system). This confirms to me that there is a conflict between the router and the tablet.Toshiba tells me that it is not compliant with Android but it is with Windows that is why I don't have an issue with the computers.

I'm moving overseas (to Israel) and noticed that the power supply does not go up to 240V. I then called the Cisco Customer Support and they told me that they don't have another power supply. Although they mentioned that I could probably get the unit in the country I'm going where it would already have the right power supply. Now, what I'm wonder, should I just send this back and figure it out when I get there? Or bring it with the hope of finding the right power supply?

Is there a mode on the WAP to best achieve this (e.g., wireless repeater, bridge, etc.)? As a different approach, could I extend the range of the original gateway WRVS4400N by dropping a second WRVS4400N in the deadspot and setting it to router mode? Language in the WRVS4400N v2 administrator screens lead me to believe that I could try this but I am unclear as to whether it would work wirelessly or need to be connected to the gateway via an ethernet cable, which is what I am trying to avoid.
