Cisco Routers :: WRVS4400N Wireless Client Has No Internet Access

Jul 18, 2012

I recently purchased a WRVS4400N security router and have got a strange problem with it. I set it up as my main router and connected two computers (a desktop and a server) using DHCP. They both work fine, internet is as fast as it should be, no problems whatsoever. However, when I setup the Wifi SSID (whatever security options I use, same with open/wpa/wpa2) and connect my laptop to it. It is allocated a IP address and windows even says that there is an internet connection. As soon as I try to do anything though, I am dropped. Try to ping an outside server, failure and dropped. Open IE, failure and dropped. I cannot even access my local server connected by wire to the router. If I connect the laptop via a cable to the router everything works, and it continues to work when I unplug it. So this means that right now I walk over to the router and plug my laptop in for 3 seconds before I unplug it and then use the wifi for a couple of hours without any problem. But as soon as I try to turn on my wireless Logitech SqueezeBox or wireless printer, they fail and take my laptop with it..

I have:reset the router, used both firmware 2.0.2.1 and 2.0.1.3 and done a factory reset.Tried to move the router close to the laptop, no difference.

Cisco Routers :: Wireless Clients On WRVS4400n Cannot Access Server

Mar 10, 2012

When clients connect wirelessly to the WRVS4400N they successfully get a DHCP address from the Windows 2008 server.  After they have the address they can no longer access the server.  It cannot be pinged, no drives can be mapped and internet access fails because the same server is running DNS.  The WRVS4400N is setup for DCHP relay to the server.  Wired clients do not have this problem.  Wireless clients that connect to a secondary WAP on the same LAN also do not experience this problem.  I have updated the router to the latest firmware version, reset it to factory defaults and reconfigured from scratch.  Turning the server firewall off has not made any difference either.  I have been able to bypass the internet problem by adding a second external DNS server in the DHCP scope options.

Cisco Wireless :: WRVS4400N - Smart Phones Loose Internet Access

Apr 9, 2012

I am using WRVS4400N in our company as a AP only. Before some time, when majority of wireless clients were computers, everything worked fine. But now, when mobile devices are in majority, something strange is happening. While portable computers still work fine, smart phone and tablet have extreme problems.

Although there is indicator that WiFi is connected and signal is strong, there is no guarantee that there is an internet access. Most of the times there is none. You can fix this by simply disconnecting and connecting WiFi on mobile device, but after a while, internet will be inaccessible again. Or you can wait and eventually you'll get to the internet access again.

Cisco Wireless :: WRVS4400N Dropping Wireless Clients

Nov 11, 2010

WRVS4400N with firmware version V2.0.0.8.

After about an hour it routinely drops wireless clients.  Wired clients are fine.

Re initiating a connection from the clients usually restores the connection fine.  Sometimes this is just doing something to force the client to use the connection for some active function other times it's forcing the client to renew it's DHCP address or power cycling the client.  The same experience is happening with a TioVo on WiFi, an iPhone on WiFi, and a WAP4410N in Client Bridge mode.

While this may not sound that bad, it's creating 2 huge issues that shouldn't occur.

First, the wireless clients that are dropped are not accessible from other clients on the network until they reestablish their connection.  There is no indication on the client of an issue with the connection.  For example, a TiVo connected over WiFi isn't accessible from the network until it reestablishes it's connection.  It works fine then for a hour or so.

Second, for the WAP4410N (firmware 2.0.3.3) in Client Bridge mode, this client requires a power cycle to reconnect to the network.  In much less than an hour it stops responding to it's IP address for it's management page, but continues to pass traffic from the multiple wired items it's bridging.  Then, after about that same hour, it stops passing this traffic too.

I tried running the WAP4410N in WDS Bridge mode but was unable to get it to work.  For this testing, access to the management page was the test with no devices behind it.  So, it's possible that that access is what was broken and that it may have passed traffic.  No wireless clients need to connect to the WAP4410N, just the bridged wired clients.

This WAP4410N was previously acting as a brige to a WRT54G with no issues, but at G speeds.  Which makes me think it's an issue with the WRVS4400N dropping clients and the clients not knowing it.

Cisco Routers :: Access LAN Resources Through WRVS4400n?

Apr 24, 2012

I am connected with qvpn, I can log in to the router bios remotely, but when I try to map the network drive from my remote location it does not work.I can detect the machine on the network, but it will not go further and tells me that "said IP was found but could not locate G". Does this mean it is behind a firewall on server side and that I need to create a rule to allow the incoming traffic? Or could it be something else.

Cisco Routers :: WRVS4400n Port Forwarding (SSH Access)

Apr 23, 2012

I have a WRVS4400n and a CentOS server that I need to enable a SSH access to from WAN. I created a single port forward rule to open port 22 and forward to server (which address is 192.168.41.3) However ssh connect doesn't happen, the command "ssh user@{external_IP}" times out after 20 seconds. If I connect my server directly to modem through outside interface - I have no problems connecting to it. Once it's behind router - no luck. I even added same rule for UDP, not sure if it's needed, but it definitely didn't hepl. The router is on firmware version 2.0.1.3, version on a bottom is 2.

I can configure ACLs on their device for the LAN to restrict packets coming back into my network, and can restrict packets outbound frm my LAN but that is hardly a secure method of doing this in my opinion.

After updating the firmware of my WRVS4400N from V 2.0.1.3 to 2.0.2.1 all traffic was blocked for all machines, even some not included in the list of PCs. As the log was showing that all traffic was blocked by access policies, I disabled the only rule I had (blocking access to some sites to some MAC address list) and everything worked fine.I tried creating a new, simpler rule but after activation it blocked again all traffic for all the LAN.After many trials, I decided to roll back to the previous V2.0.1.3 which solved this problem.

Cisco WAN :: WRVS4400N - Can No Longer Access Internet Or Login On The Network

Oct 17, 2011

I recently bought a new Cisco WRVS4400N router for our network which has 19 computers connected to a 24 port switch.  We are currently using a D-Link router and are upgrading to the Cisco router.  The problem I am having is as soon as I connect one of our servers or the 24 port switch to the Cisco router I can no longer access the internet or login on the network, I also cannot access the routers setup from either server.  If I connect the router to just a stand alone computer I can access the setup and change things but as soon as I connect the server or 24 port switch everything dies (all lights are still green on the router though so everything is connected).

Cisco Routers :: WRVS4400N - Unable To Access Admin Console

Jan 18, 2013

Although I hasten to point out that I have owned and used an 'IBM' type PC since 1988 and have always managed to get things configured correctly until NOW!

Apart from the last time I tried to use a Linksys product. I had the WRVS4400N recommended to us by a friend as we run a small FTP server to share promotional materials amongst sales operatives around the world, wanted to protect it from intrusion and was told that a Cisco Linksys product with a VPN was the way to go.

I duly purchased a WRVS440N and have been trying to log into the admin console via both browsers (IE9 and Google Chrome) that are installed on a laptop running Win7 which in turn is the only thing connected to the stated device via ethernet port 1... I have tried accessing it via http://192.168.1.1 and have even tried a suggestion from another forum to try https://192.168.1.1 - this only results in my being told that the address does not have a trusted certificate and I even tried every suggested workaround...

I have tried all kinds of reset periods from 10 seconds to a minute, both hot and cold and each time the result is the same - I type in 'admin' and 'admin' in the appropriate boxes and the dialogue box continues to return to the browser window with empty fields...

The shame is that I have managed to re-flash a BT Voyager 190 ethernet modem successfully with DynaLink v3.29a firmware (which allows it to be used with any ISP besides AOL [for whom this modem was solely intended]) and can set it up as a DHCP server, non-DHCP with a single link to another server or non-DHCP and no link.... The point is the modem works... I'm using it right now to type this! We have a single static IP from our ISP and the BT modem is working just fine (as is the TP-Link wireless modem/router that the WRVS4400N was intended to replace)... there are other options in it's firmware for port forwarding, etc and I'm convinced that it wil be adequate for use in conjunction with the WRVS4400N.

I have to concede that the WRVS4400N was not sold to us as NIB; it was sold as re-conditioned and was shipped to or via Ingram Micro Distribution from Cisco Systems, Veldweg 3, Herkenbosch 6075 NL (Holland) via UPS on or about the 31st of July, 2012... there is a shipping label on the original packaging that tells me that so it has in fact been back to Cisco at some point and for some reason.

Cisco Wireless :: Running WDS With Two WRVS4400N V2

May 12, 2010

I hardly try to get WDS running with two WRVS4400N v2.The manual (and the web interface) says: "Note: The WDS feature allows WRVS4400N to connect with  up to 3 wireless repeaters that can be either WRVS4400N or WAP200." But I wasn't successful by now in getting it working..What I've done so far:

- Setup the primary WRVS as Gateway, WAN through Modem, LAN and WLAN using WPA2 Personal Mixed, DHCP
- works perfect
- Setup the second WRVS as Router using the same WLAN settings, no WAN and no DHCP
- Enabling WDS on both WRVS, giving each the MAC address of the other
- no connection to LAN or WAN through the second WRVS

I really need the second WRVS act like a bridge. Since the manual is saying that I can connect both devices through WDS I bought two of them. On the other hand I've now read somewhere in the community, that this isn't possible with two WRVS (?)

Cisco Wireless :: WRVS4400N Does Not Get IP From ISP On WAN Port

Nov 22, 2011

I've got an out of the box WRVS4400N and it will not pick up a DHCP IP from the ISP.

I reset to factory defaults, tried another ISP, returned and got a second wrvs4400n all the same results - no IP address on the WAN port. The internet LEDs are blinking but no IP on WAN port and no internet connection from a laptop connected to wrvs4400n.

I even tried turning of the firewall too.

Is there something with these routers that needs to be done for internet access?

Most typical small routers are just set up as a DHCP client on the WAN side and DHCP server on the LAN side.

I have spoken to a Cisco tech rep and they assured me that there is not a compatibility problem with the WPA-Personal setting I am using. When I speak to a Toshiba tech they tell me I have a router conflict. To verify this I went to my local Starbucks and low and behold it logged right on with no problem (The Starbucks system was not a protected system). This confirms to me that there is a conflict between the router and the tablet.

Cisco Wireless :: WRVS4400N - No Internet Connection

The WRVS4400N picks up a WAN address from the D-Link BUT I just cannot get an internet connection, just "Local" only. I have tried setting it up as a gateway, as a router, upgraded the firmware but it just is not having it. My previous experience with routers has been just to plug em in and let them get on with it.
