View 3 Replies View RelatedI've been using D-Link DIR-600 wireless router for two months with my ISP, SmartBro. A week ago my internet went down due to heavy rain and technical support had a home visit yesterday to re-activate my internet connection. My net connection came back smoothly using a direct connection from modem to laptop. When I tried to connect the modem to my wifi router, the internet was not detected. Even if I reset the router settings, no internet connection was detected. Initially, I thought there is a problem with my wifi router so I connected the modem to our Edimax wired router but still it could not detect internet access. Every time I open a browser while connected to a router, this message is shown (see attached screenshot).
I tried using another ISP, Wi-Tribe with both wired and wifi routers and everything worked well. So now I assume the problem lies with my SmartBro ISP. I called the ISP hotline but they told me that they do not provide support for router connection problems; only with single, direct connect to a PC.I asked a neighbor IT technician to look into my problem but he too could not solve the problem.
I have a Westell 2110 wired DSL modem for Frontier (formerly Verizon). It's not a modem that has a web interface, so I can't log into it to change any settings. It also, to my knowledge, has no bridge mode (which is a term I know very little about). I had an old D-Link WBR2310 router, and since I knew the wireless and the phones ran on the same frequency, I bought a new Linksys e1200 router. Unfortunately, when I went through the setup of the router, while I know I have a solid internet connection from the modem (I'm hard wired in as I type), and while I can connect to the router, I am unable to connect to the internet. I took down my IP address, DNS servers, subnet mask, and default gateway, and set up the router to run under a Static IP, which it does phenomenally. Unfortunately, when the ISP (via direct line or my modem) changes the IP address after a few hours, my connection drops and I have to go reset up the connection via a hard wire, taking down the information, etc. Why is this the only way I can set up my connection? What could I be doing that I'm not to get it running DHCP correctly? It worked on my WBR 2310.

View 1 Replies View RelatedI cannot connect my Dell Inspiron 1300 through the NetworkManager "wired" connection, when I try to go direct to the cable modem. It fails to connect. If I connect the cable modem to my (linksys WRT54GS) wireless router, and then connect my laptop to a wired port in the router, it connects in seconds, successfully, This has happened to me 2 other times, when I tried to connect my laptop to a client's cable modem, because my client did not have a wireless router available, in their home. My wireless works fine. This has me perplexed. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and NetworkManager Applet 0.8, I've tried some things to see what is going on, such as "ifconfig" "dhclient" as well as modifying the "Auto eth0" parameters and adding my laptop's MAC address, etc.

I have cable internet with a sb6120 modem and the asus rt-n56u router. When I go wired, I get 40+mbs down and when I go wireless I'm getting approx 20mbs down. Dont get me wrong, this is more than adequate but was wondering why the huge difference. I'm not anywhere close to the theoretical max.
The rt-n56u is on firmware 1.0.1.7f which is current. My desktop uses the WMP600n and my laptop has the Intel 5100 AGN built into it - both have updated firmwares.
My Motorola SBG901 Modem/Router combo has stopped connecting to the internet. I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have Network Magic Essentials and use a Linksys WRT54GS router. I just received a Cisco Linksys 2500 and assumed that it would be a breeze to set-up in place of the WRT54, so that I could gain faster internet and improved range. After about six hours of frustration trying to set it up, I am pulling my hair out! I live in a remote area near a lake, and our only option here is a
Wi-Fi signal beamed to our homes via an antenna, coax cable to a "radio" ( Alvarion BreezeAccess). This has always worked very well with the WRT54, but with with the Cisco 2500, I can get on my local network just fine, but I cannot get connected to the internet. I can disconnect the 2500, and reconnect the WRT54, and get right back on the internet.
I have a case that to minimize wireless signal into one room.Room has dimenitons 3 x 6 meters. But the signal should pass to other room.I have tried many scenarios but couldnt reach the result that i expect.First i have used a 3502 with external antenna ports , but no antenna attached to it.I have set up the maximum power level from TPC menu from controller , but it was more limited than i thought.I can only connect whenever i put Ap next to myself. Then i have used a 3602 with internal antennas. The reason i have picked 3602 is , it has the lowest gain 2.4GHz antenna attached to it.I reset TPC to minimum power level (5) , but as expected signal can be heard from two rooms from the AP is located.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm attempting to connect multiple computers, laptops and printers to the same LAN. I currently have the switch daisy chained to the modem. I'm having issues with conflicting IP addresses and wireless access. I think I have to create static IP addresses but don't know which nor how.The hardware I'm seeking to have on one LAN:
- Netgear CGD24G Cable Modem from Time Warner
- Netgear GS116E un-managed switch
- iMac OSX 10.8.x
- Dell PC desktop, Windows 7
- Sony Vaio PC desktop, Windows XP
- Dell PC desktop, Windows XP
- Sony Vaio laptop, Windows 7 Pro
- MacAir OSX 10.8.x
- MacBook Pro OSX (not sure which OS version)
- HP JetDirect 300x Print Serve (hooked up to HP LaserJet 2300)
- Epson Artisan 835
- Netgear Universal Adapter for Home Entertainment (SAVB5004)
- Netgear Powerline 500 Nano
- Apple iPhones (4 of these)
- Apple iPad
Several of these can work wirelessly, though I prefer wired whenever possible.I have been getting IP address conflict notices as well as the wireless signal not being received on some of the wireless capable devices, which seems to be random but it could be that I just don't know enough to recognize a pattern. I believe the devices are all set to automatic assignment of IP addresses. What is the correct way to daisy chain the cable modem and switch? What is the correct protocol for assignment of IP addresses in order to avoid IP conflict? Why does my wireless drop on some of the wireless-capable devices (such as the iMac, MacAir or Sony laptop)?
I am using the WRT54G2 connected to a cable modem that requires a PPPoE login. I followed the Service Providers instructions and cloned the modems MAC address to the WRT54G and setup the PPPoE user id and password. I can then plug my PC into one of the Ethernet connections on the back of the WRT54G and everything works as expected. First I connect to the WRT54G2 and then I open a PPPoE connection in my network settings and it logs into the service provider and everything works as expected. But when I connect to the WRT5G2 wirelessly I connect to the AP fine. When I open the same PPPoE connection to the service provider it fails, the message says I have the wrong userid or password or that the protocol is not supported. Of course I know the userid and password is correct because it works when connected with Ethernet cable. I have tried disabling the security on the wireless network but that did not seem to work. The modem is a HomePNA HCNA Voice Endpoint.I am at the latest firmware 1.0.04.
View 7 Replies View RelatedI tried restarting the router and the computer, but to no avail. I've also tried with another ethernet cable and tried several ports, but that did not work, either. What is interesting is that other computers in the household connect to the router via wire without problems. I suppose that means something's wrong with my computer, however, I do not know what. I have a netgear router which says "N300 Wireless ADSL2+ Modem Router DGN2200v3" on the back. My computer has Windows 7 Home Premium installed. I'm using a DSL connection, and Avast! antivirus.

I just updated the firmware today, made adjustments to the MTU range to suit cable service and selected a different channel (9) as the neighbors were mostly on channels 2 and 6.My question is really in regard to the speed results of the router. In the immediate room where the router is located I am getting 17.6 Mbs download speed/ 3.53 upload speeds but if I move to my living room - less than 20 feet away and a few walls - the upload speed drops sharply to 3.21 Mbs download/3.21Mbs uploas.I have read where the router placement can be key. My router is sitting on the desktop. If I elevate the router will it improve performance 20 feet away or should I invest in upgraded router like a E3200 or look into a plug in type repeater?

The problem is that the main PCB has a realtek chip which I believe has the most basic webserver abilities that is used in the most basic way possible. To use it ARP commands were used to assign an IP address to the chips MAC address e.g. something like: arp -s 192.168.2.5 00-05-a4-00-a8-f8(the actual MAC address was lost along with the HD)So now I'm starting from scratch in XP, how do I find the MAC address in the first place?

The router needs to be security enabled...the equipments needs to be a router by defination (not a layer 3 switch)..As per my understanding there is limitation on number of HWIC-2 FE that can be put in ISR G2 series due to which I cannot reach that figure...
Kindly let me know if i can use SM-ES3-16-P in the place of HWIC-2FE for this kind of requirement.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI have a wired network at work and would like to add wireless capability so the owners here can connect with their mobile devices. The ultimate goal is to have WiFi for company only and not for customers (invisible network). I read about making my wireless router into an access point, which involves disabling the DHCP server on the wireless router and letting your wired router deal with it. The issue is that my wired router is preconfigured for my POS system at work and it has it's DHCP server disabled. So, this configuration isn't an option. Is there any way that I can use my wireless router BEFORE my wired? My DSL modem is in Bridge mode and my wired router deals with the login. I hope this isn't an issue. I'm unsure of which router would deal with the DSL login

Windstream gave me a “new” modem Gagaset 4300. After configuring the 4300 I replaced the 5200 with the 4300. With this setup the computers are not able to connect to the internet. The Windstream tech (phone call) said the router needs to be reconfigured so it can “talk” to the 4300 modem. If this is true how can I configure the router if I cannot get to the Linksys -router web pg?
