Could Not Get Into The Configuration Of The Modem
Jul 2, 2012
I can't get into the configuration of my modem, I type 192.168.1.1 to get into it because I know that's the Default Gateway that I have it assigned but nothing happens, I've tried in every explorer and it doesn't work.My PC is connected to the modem itself, and a router is connected to another port on the modem, this is because this way I can limit the speed on the router while I get all the speed coming from the modem.

I need to access my modem config page which I could access months ago. In Start, Run, cmd, ipconfig, my default gateway is "192.168.1.1". when I type it in Chrome Browser it says Error 324(when antivirus on) and Error 101(when antivirus off). Tried with explorer (cant connect), Firefox(says done and a blank page) and opera, none working. The last time I could connect to that configuration page was like 4 months ago but I think I did something wrong and can't do it anymore.

I get disconnected from my ADSL2+ connection now and then and it is starting to irritate my a lot so I want to investigate the problem, but I can't access my modem config page. The modem is a Zhone 1511-A1 and the default ip is 192.168.1.1. I tried to reset the modem to isp configs and it did not work. When I ping my address it says "TTL expired in transit". I really don't know what to do next to get into this config[CODE]

first off I was trying to change my ip address to dynamic from static, turns out I cant manually, anyways I was messing around with the configuration on my modem page (192.168.0.1) trying to enable dhcp because I know that if it shows that its not enabled yet I get my ip address automatically, it means my ip is static. I enabled a few things like netbios over tcpip and such and something to do with dns routing but I cant recall all I did and in what order because I can no longer get into the config. page and I cant connect to the internet and when I use command promp to renew my ip it says "an error occured while renewing interface local area connection... unable to contact your dhcp server and also an error occured while releasing interface loopback psuedo-interface1 : the system cannot find file specified.

I have been trying to configure some settings on my modem and to do so I must access it from it's ip (192.168.250.1). However, when I load that ip in my browser it does not connect.
My router has a private ip of 192.168.0.1 because of a Double NAT issue which I am trying to fix by going to the modem's configuration page. I am pretty sure that it is 192.168.250.1 because that is what my router ISP Gateway says, along with ipconfig in cmd when I directly connected to the modem from my computer.
By the way, I am currently connected through my D-Link 254 router which is connected to my WiMax modem.

I have a TPLink WDR3600 wireless router wired to AT&T's cable modem.
The modem assigned this ip to the router: 192.168.1.60.
The router creates a network with these IPs: 192.168.0.x
Question: I want to be able to RDP into my laptop that's connected to the router (ip: 192.168.0.4). Before I had a router I would just open the firewall on the cable modem and expose the laptop but now it feels like there's two layers i need to go though: the cable modem and then the router.
How do those two work together? Should I put the router in the cable modem's DMZ Zone and then just work on the router? If I want to open just a port do i need to open it both on the cable modem and the router? How does the incoming connection know which device to go to? How does it know to go to 192.168.0.4 instead of 192.168.0.2 for example?
Here's the components:
1 - AT&T 2Wire cable modem. Internet comes in the house through this box. Assigns IPs like this: 192.168.1.xxx
2 - TP-Link WDR3600 gigabit/wireless router. Assigns IPs like this: 192.168.0.xxx
3. WD My Book Network Storage. Wired connection.
4. Desktop PC. Wired connection.
5. Laptop PC. Wireless.
6. 1 ipad, 2 iphones. Wireless.
Current setup:
1. internet cable goes into 2Wire Modem.Wireless on this device is OFF.
2. cable goes from LAN port on modem to WDR3600 router's internet port
3. cables go out from router to Desktop PC and Network Storage
4. all other devices are connected to the 5GHz wireless network created by the router.

I work for a small pharmacy that uses a Cisco RV120W router to separate hospital VPN traffic from general internet traffic. The VPN traffic is redirected to a dedicated T1 line (Or T-something, I wasn't involved in the actual setup of the VPN) connecting our store directly to the local hospital, and general internet traffic gets redirected to a ZyXel PK5000Z DSL modem (We have Qwest/CenturyLink 7m/768k). The DSL modem is running the latest version of our ISP's custom firmware.
Prior to installing the VPN and RV120W, LAN traffic was handled with a basic D-Link DI-604 wired router. The router itself was configured with an IP of 10.100.100.254 (With all LAN clients assigned DHCP IPs in the 10.100.100.XXX range) and "WAN" IP of 192.168.0.4, and the modem configured with a LAN IP of 192.168.0.1. The router was connected from it's WAN port to one of the LAN ports on the modem.
The modem has it's own built-in router, but the store owner wished to have an "extra layer of protection", so to speak, and had the D-Link router installed to serve that purpose. Prior to connecting the VPN, a second router was admittedly redundant and unnecessary. However, now that we have the hospital VPN, a second router is REQUIRED to properly separate the VPN traffic from other internet traffic, since the router built into the DSL modem doesn't have the capabilities to perform this task (We had already attempted to operate the VPN over DSL...it failed miserably and spectacularly. A dedicated T1 was the only reliable option).Anyway, when installing the RV120W, we duplicated every possible setting from the old router, including configuring it with a LAN IP of 10.100.100.254 and a "WAN" IP of 192.168.0.4 and connecting it in exactly the same fashion as the old router (Modem LAN to Router WAN). Essentially, the RV120W was set up exactly the same as the old D-Link router, just with the added VPN functionality.
The problem is this: ever since installing the RV120W, we are no longer able to access the DSL modem's administration page (http://192.168.0.1). We were able to do this without any trouble whatsoever with the old D-Link router, but the RV120W seems to be blocking it somehow. Any attempt to load the modem administration page just forever sits at "Waiting for 192.168.0.1...". It never times out, it never shows any error messages. It just sits there, forever trying to load the page, showing nothing but "Waiting for 192.168.0.1..." at the bottom of the screen.
Now, we know for a fact that it is NOT a problem with the modem, because if we connect a computer directly to it via ethernet (Completely bypassing the RV120W), the administration page loads perfectly fine. And, admittedly, we could configure the modem in this manner whenever required. HOWEVER, the modem is located in a rather inconvenient location (In the ceiling, sitting on top of a ceiling tile), and having the ability to remotely manage it like we could before would definitely be something we want to be able to do again...especially since there are plans in motion to install new pharmacy equipment that will require us to do a ton of "trial and error" configuration to the modem. The RV120W has been updated with the latest firmware, yet the problem still persists.

I just switched to Roadrunner Lightening via Brighthouse Networks. There is no configuration capability in the Cable modem/ router / wireless - Ubee provided to make the Modem a bridge. You have to call Brighthouse to do that. They indicated that they only do that for supported routers and the EA 4500 is not one of them. I'm ready to call them to say I have one of the supported modems so "do it" and then find out what happens.
Meanwhile I have connected my EA4500 through their router and have a network in a network. I've noticed another more significant problem. The speeds through the EA 4500 drop to 90%. Is there something wrong with the router configuration that would cause this significant drop in speed? I'm afraid if the problem is the EA 4500.

I have the Linksys BEFSX41 wired Firewall router. My ISP is Verizon DSL. The DSL modem is a Westell 6100G. I have the wall phone line connected to my modem. The output of the modem is going to the input of my Linksys router. I have two computers connected to the router outputs. In order for me to see the output or configuration of my Westall modem, I have to go http://192.168.1.1. In order for me to see the configuration of my Linksys router, I have to enter http://10.10.10.1. When I look at the instructions for setting up and configuring my Linksys router, it never mentions the above 10.10.10.1 address, but instead it tells me to enter the 192.168.1.1 address. I have never done this because when I powered both units for the first time, and it worked, I noticed then that my Linksys address was the 10.10.10.1. Why is it then that none of the settings or instructions for the Linksys router never mention to enter the 10.10.10.1 address as oppose to the one the do call out to enter which is the address for the Westell modem? What would happen if both addresses on both devices were the same?

My Motorola SBG901 Modem/Router combo has stopped connecting to the internet. I have done all the troubleshooting with Comcast and with Motorola and it is out of warranty, so I will have to purchase a new one.In the mean time, I wanted to use it only as a wireless router connected to my Scientific Atlanta DPC2100R2 modem. Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection.

i just bought a Netgear WNDR4000 router due to troubles with my current modem/router combo (D-Link DSL2730-B). The router doesnt have in built modem functionality obviously so I need to set up the modem/router as a dedicated modem. Also should I use the current modem/router as the dedicated modem or an older model i own (I think its a DSL 502T)? Because the current one often drops the internet connection. Don't know if its a problem with the modem functionality or something else. Will the older one serve better since i didn't have any problems with that one or will it be outdated? I only upgraded due it not having wireless capabilities. Otherwise it's fine.Or will I be even better off buying a dedicated modem? I really don't want to spend more money but if this is a far better alternative I guess i will.
EDIT: Ok so found out that I have to put the modem/router in bridge mode in order for this to be possible. However, looking up how to do this lead me to a dead end because i need to fill in some fields that i have no idea how to interpret.
VPI:
VCI: These 2 already came with presets. Should I just leave them?
Select DSL Link Type (EoA is for PPPoE, IPoE, and Bridge): Choices of EoA PPPoA and IPoA
Encapsulation Mode: Choices of LLC/SNAP-BRIDGING and VC/MUX
Service Category: UBR without PCR, UBR with PCR, CBR, Non Realtime VBR, Realtime VBR

my computer randomly disconnects from my modem and will not reconnect until I restart my computer (do not need to restart modem). When I check the modem, it always is still running. The lights on the modem do the exact same thing whether the internet is working or not. The disconnection is entirely random. Sometimes it will disconnect immediately, sometimes it will take up to a few hours. I do not have a router hooked up to the modem, and the only other thing the modem is hooked up to is our tv. But even when the tv box is off, we still randomly disconnect.
On the previous forum thread that I read, some of the comments asked for the person to paste their entire ipconfig and their entire ping list from command prompt I will post that below: [code] Could it possibly be a virus? I am currently performing a virus scan using Microsoft Security Essentials. I will report the results of that tomorrow, seeing that it will take several (up to 10) hours to finish and it is nearly midnight of me posting this.I should also note that whenever I unplug my Ethernet cord it gives me a symbol that looks like this other than the regular disconnect with the red "X" over the wire symbol.

I have webcams that need port 8081 opened and I did that, everything worked fine until my DIR655 jammed up and power cycling it and the modem 3-4 times DID not make it work: no internet access and it was definitely a DIR655 problem. So, out with the paperclip to do the big reset, causing me to lose my configuration. When "most" of it came back up with my new config (I had screen prints), all was okay EXCEPT the webcams. Addresses and ports were all configured properly, address was fixed too on the client computer rather than use DHCP. I had a DNS relocation service running (DYNDNS) for the WAN side, but that address (My IP) didn't change either. I tried EVERYTHING. Finally, I realized in all my screwing around that I had enabled UPnP in my application, something I hadn't done before, but did this time as a desperation move. UPnP had always been checked off in the router. So.....I REMOVED my port forwarding and virtual server settings (either one worked before), and voila, everything working, Is this a normal occurrence, that if you have UPnP running, that this auto configuration overrides any manual configuration?

I've had this dsl modem for a couple years now and have always to my knowledge been able to use it via only one ip number.i've been streaming video using webcamxp and other software/.today my modem began acting stupid by disconnecting once an hour and if I shut off pc of at all,i wind up having to manually reset the modem by unplugging it for a few seconds and then back in again.i eventually noticed that while the webcam is streaming video ,my lan connection on the pc shows the ip number i'm familiar with while my dsl modem shows one that's new(so to speak)..so I entered both ip numbers in to the webcamxp and found that the modem streams using either ip number..if I go to the what's my ipnumber site,it will display whichever number I have entered in to the webcamxp software//.is it normal for a modem to use 2 numbers as I don't believe this has occurred in my case before.i'm wondering if it has to do with the modem suddenly disconnecting now and then and too, having to reset it everytime I boot.i have att dsl ,no live landline just dead phone cord from the modem to the wall.

My modem decides to lose connection at odd hours/times, resulting in the need to restart it. So far my only solution is to manually do that. But, the modem is located in my roommates room who has different sleeping hours than I do. We have tried relocating it but it really doesn't connect then. Anyway, I have my laptop (Windows 7) and access my Netgear router to my Motorola modem supplied by Time Warner Cable. Under normal conditions I can connect to the Surfboard page for the modem and reboot it that way. But, when the connection is dropped, I can not access the modem page via 192.168.100.1. How can I 'remotely' reboot my modem so as not to disturb my roommate?
