Span LAN 660 Feet Between Buildings?
Oct 15, 2012Two buildings on same farm property 660 feet apart. Cable internet to one building does not reach 660 feet to second building and the cable company will not put it in. Wireless between the buildings is not out of the question; but, I've never done anything this distance before and I am concerned that signal loss over 660 feet might degrade throughput.
So, what is a feasible way of getting the signal from the first building 660 feet to the second building?

I need the 2.4 ghz antenna for client access (Iphones are not compatiable with 802.11a) The locations are 800 feet away but are line of sight. I need to use the 5ghz antenna for the bridge i have 2 aironet 1242ag's I have 2 2.4 ghz AIR-ANT3213 antennas (planned for client access) I have 2 2.4 ghz AIR-ANT2506 (maybe useless for this)
My problem is that the range of all the listed 5 ghz antennas. None that i can find will bridge 54mb over the 5ghz radio for greater than 170ft
The closest that i can find is AIR-ANT5195. If i put these on both sides and it is outdoors line of sight, will the best i can hope for is functioning and 6mb
Are there options on 5ghz that i am missing.

Aug 17, 2012I got Fios installed this week. Router is the Actiontec MI424, it sits int he living room. I ran a speed test of the wifi on my laptop in the living room, and the internet speeds were great. Here's my problem. I'm in a 2 br condo, not a huge place maybe like 1200 Sq feet, same floor. Wifi is awesome in the living room, but in the bedroom it hangs. I still have a signal, varying for low to good, but it takes forever to open a web page, to the point where you can't use the internet. Bedroom is just down the hall.I called Verizon. They told me they can only guarantee the wifi signal 10 feet from the router, after that no promises. My frustration is that with my previous provider, which was giving me a slower internet connection, my wifi in the bedroom was fine and the router was in the exact same spot. Of course I used my own router? I know there are instructions on connecting my old router to the fios one and using my old router for wifi.

Is there anyway to do this? Is there a way to disable the modem in the SBG901? Simply connecting with the ethernet cords has not worked. I connected the DPC2100 to the SBG901 via ethernet cord. My computer was able to pick up a wireless connection but there is no cable connection.

Feb 28, 2013i just bought a Netgear WNDR4000 router due to troubles with my current modem/router combo (D-Link DSL2730-B). The router doesnt have in built modem functionality obviously so I need to set up the modem/router as a dedicated modem.Also should I use the current modem/router as the dedicated modem or an older model i own (I think its a DSL 502T)? Because the current one often drops the internet connection. Don't know if its a problem with the modem functionality or something else. Will the older one serve better since i didn't have any problems with that one or will it be outdated? I only upgraded due it not having wireless capabilities. Otherwise it's fine.Or will I be even better off buying a dedicated modem? I really don't want to spend more money but if this is a far better alternative I guess i will.
EDIT: Ok so found out that I have to put the modem/router in bridge mode in order for this to be possible. However, looking up how to do this lead me to a dead end because i need to fill in some fields that i have no idea how to interpret.

Jul 5, 2012my computer randomly disconnects from my modem and will not reconnect until I restart my computer (do not need to restart modem). When I check the modem, it always is still running. The lights on the modem do the exact same thing whether the internet is working or not. The disconnection is entirely random. Sometimes it will disconnect immediately, sometimes it will take up to a few hours. I do not have a router hooked up to the modem, and the only other thing the modem is hooked up to is our tv. But even when the tv box is off, we still randomly disconnect.

In addition, I would like to also be able to have a wireless router linked to the modem as well.Currently, I have a TP-Link 5 port Unmanaged Mini Desktop Switch with the ethernet cable going from my cable modem into it and from there, I have the other port slots feeding into my desktop pc, laptop, xbox and another then going back into my wireless router.
My problem is that to use the wireless router on any of the 3 systems I am using (PC, Laptop, Xbox) when I choose to go unwired, I have to restart the wireless router every time.Is there a way to just have them all connected and working without having to always having to restart the wireless router when I want to go wireless and having to restart the modem itself when I want to go wired?
