View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have a small home office with three computers, two new comps with win7 64 and an old comp running Vista32. Up until last week, the two 7's accessed files on the vista machine via a public folder, and everything was peachy, speed-wise. Trashed the vista this week and replaced it with a new desktop running win7 64. I backed up the old comp's files on the new comp, set up the new win7 home network, and everything went to hell. Both of the 'old' win7 machines can access files on the new, but the speeds are unbearable. It takes, literally, over 10 minutes for Accubid to load (accessing files on the new desktop), whereas it was pretty much immediate before. Quickbooks freezes for a minute and a half before it finally connects. A 60mb PDF file takes two minutes to copy. It even hiccups when I save a freakin' Word document. After some research I found that window's new home sharing network kinda sucks, so I turned it off on all machines and mapped network drives. Nothing.turn off remote differential compression, so I turned it off on all machines. Nothing. I disabled flow control on all machines. Nothing. The weirdest thing I did - I disabled auto-tuning and restarted all computers. I then opened Accubid and it opened immediately! I restarted the program 6 or 7 times, and each time it came up within seconds. I was ecstatic. Then my boss came in 5 minutes later and I opened Accubid to show him I finally fixed it. It took 10 minutes to load again, and I haven't been able to repeat whatever I had done since.
My ISP is ATT.
Modem - D-Link DSL 520B
Router - Netgear WNDR3800
Network is wired. Again, access to internet is blazing. Access to the computer 6 feet away from me is not.
I have a couple laptops in my home and just purchased a WD network drive so that a central location can keep all our media files (photos, videos, etc.) and we can access it with our pc's, phones, and tablets. I'm in the process of setting up the HD and transferring all the media to the drive wirelessly however I'm only experiencing about 1.5MB/s-4MB/s. Is there a way to speed this up.

Each WAP shows connected at 1GB but when I am sitting within a couple feet of the WAP and attempt to transfer a 972MB file it takes around 9 minutes to complete. speeding this up? All 4 AP's are setup as a cluster as well.

I am connected on the network via my Dell with a Intel(R) WiFi Link 5300 AGN. I am not able though to connect on N range. I have installed the latest drivers from Intel but nothing changed. When i try to copy a file from my computer to the WD Network drive the transfer rates are very slow. I get Max 2MB/s - 3MB/s while if i connect my computer with a wire the speed goes up by 3-4 times more.

View 0 Replies View Relatedi have a 4Mbps DSL internet connection with 3 PCs connected through a router. 2 are connected wirelessly and the other is wired via an ethernet cable. i noticed that when downloading a file from an international server, the transfer rate on the wireless PCs is 2-3 times slower than on the wired PC. the wireless PC would get about 150-200kb/s, whereas the wired PC can max out to 450kb/s on a single download. however when i download from a local or nearby server instead, the transfer rate on the wireless and wired PCs are the same and can both reach up to 450kb/s per download. i don't understand why the wireless connection is slower to international servers compared to the wired PC.my wireless signal is at 54Mbps with "excellent" strength. i also tested the ping results from both the wireless and wired PCs to international servers and they are pretty much the same.

I have a non-descript trendnet 56K v.92 dial up modem installed to pci slot1 on my mobo. The phone company says they can't get a quicker connection than 31.2 Kbps established to dial up users in this area. The real issue is the data transfer rate.I have seen it reach as high as 6.xx Kbps but generally hovers around 2.5 Kbps. Now it is down to 1.xx Kbps and I took the last 48 hours downloading all the updates for windows and several other updates for hard ware etc.Now I need the ATI firepro update and 114 Mb will take over 16 hours at my average speed, and some 32 hours at the new slower speed
Which Intel network cards runs well with E4200 (latest FW)? I mean good connection and transfers rate. I have two clients with the same cards (Intel 4965agn, latest driver) and I got transfer rates at 144 Mbps with both radios working (2.4 and 5GHZ on the E4200). When I try to use 5Ghz only it drops to 54 Mbps and for 2.4Ghz it drops for 130 Mbps. Could I reach better transfers rate with a Intel 4965agn card (300 or 450 Mbps)?

Currently the XP permissions are too general.

None of them have 100 % utilisation and if they all tryed to associate with the AP with the strongest signal that would alleviate the existing association problems. Router: Linksys E3000 - below is a list of all devices connected (hardwired T568B) to the 4 ports with a laptop connected via wireless
1. Main PC - motherboard: ASUS Maximus IV Extreme-Z (dual GB LAN ports)
2. Media Server - motherboard: MSI Z68A-GD80 (dual GB LAN ports)
3. Test Bench AMD PC
4. WD TV Live
Currently: I have all 3 computers running Windows 7 and connected to a Homegroup. I have given the correct permissions to enable sharing of files between each of the 3 computers and can transfer files from one PC to the next w/o any issues.
Desired: I want to connect my Main PC and Media Sever with a crossover cable using the 2nd LAN port on each motherboard, so that I don't have to go through the router to transfer data to and from these 2 PCs. I will have each PC also connected to the Linksys E3000 router via the 1st LAN port on each motherboard to supply the internet connection, so I am also not trying to "share" an internet connection between these 2 PCs. Basically, I want to run my home network through the Linksys E3000 and then a 2nd network for the 2 PCs using the crossover cable.
Current Problem: I disconnected the straight-through cables from the router to each computer from the 1st LAN port. I then connected the crossover cable from the Main PC to the Media Server and setup a new Home network in the Network and Sharing Center in Windows 7. Everything worked and I could transfer data to and from each these 2 PCs, so i know I wired the crossover cable correctly. Then I reconnected the straight-through cables coming from the router to the 1st LAN ports of each mobo, thinking that each PC would auto-detect the internet connection and reacquire my existing home network, enabling an internet connection again. However, this did not happen.
[URL] I also followed this how-to guide on microsoft.com, but when I get to Step 3 where it says that an "Unidentified network icon" will aprear in the Network and Sharing Center, it does not!
From Googling, reading, and troubleshooting I believe I know 2 things:
1. All of the hardware is functioning properly - when the straight-through cables from the router are disconnected, the 2 PCs are networked through the crossover cable and files can be transferred.
2. The problem is with Windows 7 somewhere - I think?
[code] Wireless transfer from HTPC to Windows Home Server peak at 8-9 MB/sec. Note that my WHS and my Winn7 Gaming rig are both on the same physical switch, but the same exact wireless file transfer from my HTPC to Windows 7 gaming rig hits consistent 35-40 MB/sec, 4x faster and which is what I expect. Wired transfer of same 4GB test file directly from gaming rig to WHS tops over 100MB/sec so it is not a problem with the WHS writing to disk or wiring. So the question is, what could possibly be bottle-necking my upload from HTPC only to the Home Server? I have tested a Netgear R6300 with the same results as the Asus router.
View 1 Replies View RelatedI need a software that i can use to transfer files from one windows PC to another over the LAN network.I've tried "Quick'n Easy FTP server Lite" and it works, but its really slow (About 2MB/s) ( i know my hardware can go much faster than the software is allowing). But at least the speeds were constant and unchangingI have also tried Windows Easy Transfer. But that software makes it a bit harder to send back and for whenever i feel like it, and although sometime i would hit speeds 5 times faster than with the previously mentioned software (about 12MB/s) , those speeds were not constant. It would be slow (around 1MB/s) and then spike up, and then go back down, and repeat in that fashion

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a 3825 with a 16 port etherswitch card installed that I'm trying to setup rate-limits on. Interface G0/0 is the connection to the outside world and int g0/1 has a couple of 2950 switches attached to it.
The etherswitch card, f1/0, f1,1 etc has corresponding vlans, 902, 903 etc each with an IP 10.110.1.x, 10.110.2.x and all part of access-group 111. The switches connect on sub-interfaces g0/1.101, g0/1.102 etc and have IP's 10.55.1.x, 10.55.2.x and part of access-group 101.
What i'm trying to achieve is that every port / IP that is on access-group 111 shares 3Mb of bandwidth in/out and access-group 101 shares a separate 3Mb of bandwidth in/out.
I've created two access-lists as follows;
access-list 101 permit ip 10.55.0.0 0.0.255.255 any
access-list 111 permit ip 10.110.0.0 0.0.255.255 any
And on int g0/0 I've created the following rate-limits;
rate-limit input access-group 101 3072000 64000 64000 conform-action transmit exceed-action drop
rate-limit input access-group 111 3072000 64000 64000 conform-action transmit exceed-action drop
rate-limit output access-group 101 3072000 64000 64000 conform-action transmit exceed-action drop
rate-limit output access-group 111 3072000 64000 64000 conform-action transmit exceed-action drop
Now instead of both access-groups having 3Mb each they all seem to be sharing 3Mb! I've tried class-maps and policy-maps but to no avail..

I am looking for information on how to properly configure rate limits on a Cisco 2821 so that I can set different Service levels by IP address. For example I want to limit a block of IPs to 1 Mbps Down and 512 kbps Up. I am doing point to point networks from our router (ISR 2821) to another router that is assigned a static IP. The other router connects to our router through a Fast Ethernet port on a NM 16 port switch card. The routing end point for the network is on a VLAN interface. Currently we are using bonded T1's but are about to turn up a Metro-E circuit.

I assume that every say 1 meter, I can send say 1 bits, so if I have 10 meters of link length, I can send 10 bits of data on that link. Do you have any argument to strongly support this assumption, preferrably a reference.

We're both connected to the router by wire. The problem is with online games (such as LoL or Diablo 3) where I fail to connect 90% of the time. This happens while trying to log in or creating/connecting to a game.I've already tried to port forward but it doesn't seem to work since ports still show as closed (also set to a static IP) when I check online.Edit: I forgot to add that my brother can connect to games just fine.
1) Restarting my router. Doing so allows me to log/connect to games normally for a minute or two, but after that time the problems come back. This is incredibly annoying though and it also disrupts the net for my brother.
2) Connecting directly to the modem. I can only do this if I'm alone, which isn't often.
