Linksys Wireless Router :: WRT54G - Internet Access / Computers Cannot Ping Google

Nov 17, 2012

I have a WRT54G that has worked fine for years, with some PCs hooked up with Ethernet and various other devices connected wirelessly. I came home this afternoon and nothing going through the router could connect to the internet. I've made no changes to anything recently.

I did troubleshooting with Comcast, and we determined that when their modem was hooked up directly to my computer then that computer could connect to the net. Problem solved as far as they are concerned--my router is busted. But I can still connect to the router, and enter its admin screen, and everything looks fine there. The computers on the router can all see each other. So the router is working.

Once I hooked it back up to the modem my computers all lost their internet, but the router does get an IP successfully from Comcast. And it even assigns IPs to my computers that are hooked up to it. It's just that for some reason they still cannot get past the router.I used the ping function in the router admin site and the router pinged Google no problem. My PCs can ping the router without difficulty. But the computers cannot ping Google.

I've tried every combination of power cycles and reboots you can name. I've tried duplicating the MAC address of the PC that connected to the internet onto my router. None of it has made any difference.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: X3000 Internet Access Via LAN?

Nov 11, 2012

Over the passed couple of weeks I have experienced issues trying to connect to the internet via the LAN Ports.  My main PC and a Xbox cannot connect to the internet even though 3 laptops have no problems using the Wifi connectivity.I have had two live chats with Cisco engineers and the first resolution was to perform a firmware upgrade which did solve the issue for a day or two.  I think it was more to do with reset the modem/router rather than the firmware upgrade.  The second session ended with the eingineer advising me to take the equipment back to PC and seek a replacement simply because Ciso have nothing in writing relating to this problem.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: WAG54G2 - Internet Access Stops / Device Appears To Have Been Reset

Nov 24, 2008

I just purchased a WAG54G2, setup was simple and easy.  After being on for about 16 hours if I login to the device all the settings appear to have been reset to default, although the access point and wireless are still working.  After another few hours the internet access stops and device appears to have been reset.  No power spikes or reliability problems with power.  Contacted Linksys support on three different occasions and they don't have any suggestions that work.  Tried a "hard reset" but problem still occurs.  No firmware upgrades are available for this device.

Linksys Cable / DSL :: X3000 - Able To Ping IPs But Not Hostnames

Oct 3, 2012

We have a brand new Linksys X3000, with the latest firmware installed.  It does not recognise the hostnames of devices on our network. We have added a few hostnames, using 'manually add client'.  My first question is why would it not recognise hostnames (a variety of devices, e.g. phones, apple time machine, linux PCs)?

The next problem is that that we are successfully able to ping IP addresses, but when we ping hostnames, results are inconsistent.  e.g. currently I have my laptop and a time machine connected by wire directly to the router.  I can ping the time machine by IP.  The first time I ping by hostname, it works, but immediately after that I ping again and it says 'unknown host'.  Why would it suddently forget about a device it is clearly connected to?  Have we got some sort of default security setting I don't know about?

Cisco WAN :: Cannot Access Internet - Ping PC With 871W

Jul 23, 2012

I am new to Cisco and am studying for my CCENT certification. At the moment, I am attempting to correctly configure a Cisco 871W lab router. Since I have undertaken this task, I have run into nothing but problems. First off it was finding that the previous owner had left a password on it, having to purchase a new USB to DB9 adapter to pass the "break" sequence to the router, and then resetting the router in ROM Monitor mode.

Now, I cannot seem to configure the router correctly, and am quite stumped.

My ISP is Charter (cable internet), and the home network that I am using consists of a Motorola SBV5122 Digital Voice Modem, Motorola SB6120 Cable modem, and, ideally, should also include my Cisco 871W router.

When I connect my router to the SB6120 Cable modem, the router receives an IP address via DHCP and the WAN indicator light turns on.

I have a VLAN configured on the 4 switchports of the router, and it is setep to act as a DHCP server. However, when I connect my PC to rhe router via Cat5e Crossover cable, I cannot access the internet. The router gives the PC an IP address, yet all attempts to ping the PC from the router fail. Somehow, I can connect to the router via SSH though.

Furthermore, I can ping the 127.0.0.1 loopback address from my PC, but cannot do so from the router.

how to correctly configure this router to function as intended in my network situation, however, this is proving to be seemingly unsurmountable!

I have attached the config of my router along with both outputs and commands relating to my predicament.

No Internet Access Via Cat5 Cable Wireless Or Internet Dongle?

Aug 24, 2012

I have a Sony Vaio running Windows 7 Home Premium. Yesterday I accessed the Internet at the office over a Cat5 cable. Last night I accessed the Internet at home via my USB Internet dongle (actually an O2 mobile phone). Today neither works. I have also tried to connect to the Internet via Wireless and that does not work either.Needless to say my desktop (using the same Cat5 cable) works. My mobile phone can access the Internet on it own. And others can get the wireless to work.My Vaio can connect to all three; however, all three say "No Internet access".I changed nothing between last night and this morning. I have scanned through the list of Windows Updates and nothing has been downloaded in the past week. I have turned off my firewalls (in both McAfee and Symantec Endpoint Protection). I have run the three NETSH reset commands with Administrator privileges. I have rebooted my machine numerous times. Nothing works.

Cable Connected But No Internet Access?

Mar 8, 2011

I have plugged my computer into the modem by way of a Ethernet cable and I immediately got a Local Area Network 2 icon that said a network cable is unplugged. Ive checked the cable with this PC, and it works. i tried this:1.) Shut dowm your PC.2.) Unplug the power cord. 3.) If you have a laptop, remove the battery as well. 4.) Walk away from the problem for at least 30 minutes. 5.) When you return, reconnect battery and power cord.5.) Start as usual.6.) If this solves the problem, take 20 minutes and post this to all of those message boards that you didn't find the solution to.

And This:Try a Simple Power Cycle ( as it is called so in Tech Terms )i,e Switch of the Computer/S , Router, Modem of your ISP Wait for 4 to 5 mins Switch on the Modem -- Wait untill all the lights come up and then again wait for 2 mins Switch on the Router -- Wait for 3 mins Switch on all other computers that are working, then check conectivity Switch on this computer that has a problem, then Try browsing.

This resolves most issues ( Basically it is the static in the unused ports that gets discharged )It that does not happen, delete all existing Lan Connection, Uninstall your network Driver, Reinstall the Drivers, then reconfigure you net connection then try It still that does not work out and you still get the " Network Cable Unplugged " Msg Then Unplug the Cable Then go to Start > Run > type regedit Navigate to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOTCLSIDThen Delete the key below {7007ACCF-3202-11D1-AAD2-00805FC1270E} Then Restart the comp and reconnect the cable and then tryand this:Using windows xp, the quick fix for this is to reinstall the drivers for your NIC

Connected Through Ethernet Cable But No Internet Access?

Jun 10, 2012

I have a desktop running windows XP Professional x32 SP3 and my network adapter is a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller. The desktop is connected to the network with an ethernet cable.Up until yesterday the internet connectivity just stopped working. I am seeing a very low number of received packets as opposed to the high number when it was working. It is showing that it is connected to the network but I still can't access the internet. Also I should mention that the desktop is at work and it is connected to a DHCP server that assigns IP addresses. I have updated all the drivers and I have used Winsock Fix and Netsh but it still isn't working. However the weird thing is that if assign a static IP address to it...it works. But I can't do this because I am not suppose to hook it up to the ports assigned to the switch for static IP's. It has to be connected to the DHCP switch. Why does it work when assigned a static but not if it gets an IP assigned by the DHCP server or switch. Also even if I try to reset, renew or release the IP...when I connect again it still gives me the same IP. It wont change.

Linksys Wireless Router :: EA2700 Ping To Access Point Through Wire Varies From 1 To 8 Ms

Oct 23, 2012

I purchased Linksys (Cisco) EA2700. For the moment it is being used as an access point for a wireless network (WLAN) and an Ethernet switch.  4 laptops are being connected to it through the wireless network, the wire connects one computer and a separate ADSL modem (it is used for accessing Internet). As a result minimal ping to any of the devices in wireless network is 8 ms – the best result and sometimes rises to 20 ms. Consequently when working with local network resources one suffers from speed decrease. Ping to the access point through the wire varies from 1 to 8 ms. These delays are quite strange as even on cheaper routers ping does not rise above 2 ms (usually <1ms). Is it normal for the device?

Zyxel - Ethernet Cable Portal On Laptop Broken / Cannot Access Internet

However, the lights indicating internet and dsl on the modem are brightly burning and the router shows nothing abnormal too.

I have a WPA2-PSK security, the modem is Zyxel. Also, the ethernetcable portal on my laptop is broken, so I can't do anything non-wireless. My phone has the same problem with this internet, it can get a connection, but no internet.

Connection Between Access Point / Router Or Cable Modem - Internet Broken

Jan 31, 2012

My laptop died last week and have been using my husbands, which I hate! We had some issues with computer freezing on some webpages or after being on webpages for awhile (like facebook). Yesterday it froze and I could not get it back on. When he got home he did scan disk (which I also did) and got it working after going into safe mode and doing system restore. He said an update had gotten through and messed things up. Anyhow, after he was on it a few hours last night, we lost connection. I figured the crazy weather was the culprit but it has been off all day. Our router is working and connecting but the adapter is not. Also our home phone says there is no line. We have unplugged everything several times, checked to make sure everything is in the right spots, I have even reset the router and rebooted the adapter. I uninstalled and restalled the adapter also. It is now telling me that "the connection between your access point, router, or cable modem and the Internet is broken". The only lights I have on the adapter are power, battery, DS and now the US light is blinking. The online and link lights are not on.

Motorola SURFboard Extreme Cable Modem Is Connected But No Internet Access

Nov 7, 2012

Today I purchased a Motorola SURFboard extreme Cable Modem DOCSIS 3.0 in order to replace my old modem which is out of date and has been very slow as of late. I connected the coaxial cable, Ethernet cable(to Linksys wireless router), and power expecting it to simply work. All four lights came on green (power, downstream, upstream, connectivity). The downstream light turned blue which indicates a bonded connection. The device light was blinking on the modem. I connected to my wireless router, but no internet access. I then tried connecting my laptop to the modem directly via Ethernet cable, still no access. I think that rules out the router being the problem. I also ruled out my laptop being the problem as the same thing is occurring with my other laptop and desktop. I called my ISP (Cox Cable) and had them re-establish connection with my modem, this did nothing. I thought for sure this meant I had purchased a faulty modem; I hooked up my old modem and the results were the same, the modem connected fully with no problem (all four lights were green) but I have no internet access.
