Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 - How To Get Info About Usage 2.4ghz Or 5ghz

Mar 19, 2011

How do I know if I'm using 2.4 or 5ghz?  I would like the laptop and ps3/net flix to use the 5ghz and everything else to use 2.4ghz.  I used the e3000 CD fro the setup.  When I was at the last part of the setup, when it gives you a ssid name and password.  I deleted it and typed in a name that I could remember.  I clicked the button for the next step and everything was complete.  I also received another name for guest to use the computer.  The e3000 setup just game me some wild name like running water.

I would like to know since I have two different names, which on e is using 5ghz and which one is using 2.4thz? Can you tell me if the e3000 automatically have the first name use 5ghz and the guest just 2.4ghz on the second name?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E2500 2.4Ghz Won't Connecting At 5GHZ Frequency

On my dual band E2500, I have both the 2.4 and 5 GHZ enabled. I have a fairly new HP with an N wireless card but I cannot get it to connect at the 5GHZ frequency. The only computer that will connect at the speed is my wife's with an external Cisco wireless card. What the settings should be on the PC in order to get it to connect at the higher frequency?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 2.4Ghz Network Drops Connection 5Ghz

Oct 15, 2011

2 days ago my e1000 died, so I went big and bought the e4200 (due to newness, its already loaded with Firmware 1.0.03 build 14) to aleviate my networking woes.  I'm running into an issue where I'm utilizing both the 2.4Ghz bands and the 5Ghz band.  My desktop as an AE1000, and I'm utilizing that on the 5Ghz band.  Everything else in the house (Dell laptop, 2x iPhone 4 and an HP printer) are all connecting to the network wirelessly.

I have had 0 network issues with regards to my wired connections, or my 5Ghz connection.  But my 2.4Ghz connection will continuously be unavailable.  I have both bands set to brodcast, they have different names so my AE1000 can connect via 5Ghz band.  Both yesterday evening, and this morning, my phones, laptop and printer cannot connect, and for the most part, the network doesn't show up on available networks.  When it does show up, the devices can't connect.I'm proficient enough to do the general home networking, but I'm at a loss as to how to fix this, without a daily reboot of the router (which seems excessive and unwarranted for a 2 day old e4200 [or any router to be honest]).

I have rebooted the computer, cycled the router and modem 3-4 times.Nothing works. My question is since both laptops and phone can see the 5Ghz network when running the Airport Extreme, why doesn't the 5Ghz network show up on the Dell and iPhone when running the E3000.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Disabling 5GHz Band On E3000

Jul 17, 2011

I've had the wireless G adapter for a year now, and connections work with both 2.4GHz and 5GHz G connections. I just bought a wireless N adapter (2.4GHz and 5GHz capable), and cannot get an N connection.. On 2.4GHz it connects to G only. And on 5GHz, I don't even see the whole band to connect to it.

I've tried disabling the 5GHz band on the E3000, then even setting the 2.4GHz band to no security. I still get a G only connection. My laptop can connect to 2.4GHz and get 144Mbps N speeds.Router is at latest firmware.I've researched this online, but can't find anything concrete.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Does The E3000 Support 5GHz Channels

Jul 23, 2011

I have read various forum postings saying to get the best performance from a wifi router you have to use channel 149 or greater and that 36-48 have a weaker signal strength and thus less range/speed.I live in New Zealand and when I select the wireless channel drop list for the 5GHz band it only lists 5 options - Auto (dfs), 36, 40, 44 and 48. I have read forum posts of people stating you should switch to 149 or greater and I have seen screenshots showing the drop list with 149 selected. But I don't have that option. If I check the Status > Wireless page it shows that channel 36 is being used (for Auto).Am I doing something wrong? Do E3000's in this part of the world not support 149 etc?I spoke in a live chat to a support rep who told me that all E3000's are the same everywhere in the world and there was little to no difference in firmware between them. I was also told that channels 36-48 are high gain channels and so there is no need for the other channels, which contradicts other articles I have read which state 36-48 are weaker channels.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3000 5Ghz Auto(DFS) Versus Selecting Channel

Nov 15, 2012

I have an E3000 Dual Band. On my 5Ghz channel, I can select Auto(DFS) or I can manually select a channel.First of all, what does the DFS stand for? My 2.4 GhZ channel only has Auto, not Auto(DFS).

Second, when I select Auto(DFS), my wireless speed defaults to 144Mbps, and is only a single channel (I can see it in the in SSIDer utility). When I manually select a channel, no matter what channel it is, I get 300mbps and I can see that the signal is two channels (for instance, 36+40). Why Auto(DFS) doesn't automatically select the best channel and fastest speed?

I set up a unique SSID and passphrase (WPA2) for both 2.4GHz and 5GHz bands. My XBOX could connect to the 2.4GHz band network and could connect to XBOX Live. But when I configured all the settings and tried to connect to the 5GHz band network, but no luck. My XBOX just said it failed to connect. I was sure that I did type in the SSID and passphrase correctly. I still cannot figure out what went wrong. I even suspected either the wireless adapter or the router malfunctioned.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200V2 - Why Not Able To Run 2.4ghz On 40mhz

Dec 23, 2011

Decided to go with the e4200v2. 199.99 for a router 450 + 450 with a little extra features. very pricey but thought it would be worth it. I got it hooked up with no problems for the first 5 minutes. I have 35mbps down wired from the router and on the 2.4 and 5.0 ghz band about 25 feet from the router was getting just that!! no loss really. However after a few more speed test i noticed it was fluctuating very slow to fast.  Also the 2.4ghz was only 144mbps. after getting in the router i changed the 2.4ghz to channel 6 and 5ghz to 153 and changed to 20mhz only on the 2.4 and 40mhz only on the 5.0ghz. Now all is doing well .

1. why am i not able to run the 2.4ghz on 40mhz? when set to auto i have a lot slower speed tests even know it is running on 20mhz only because I'm only getting 144mbps. I don't know why its not running 40mhz ? i don't know why i have to change it to 20mhz only why cant i leave it on auto and if i had a day with little interference it would switch to 40? when left on auto the speeds go down drastically

2. i notice that some channels are brutally slow on both bands. like 1.5mbps ? is this normal

3. is this even worth it if the 2.4 band is acting this way?

4. from insider i see that 5.0ghz only connects to two channels isn't suppose to be 3?

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 - 2.4ghz Network All Connections

Sep 1, 2011

I purchased a e4200 in hopes that its dual band capability would allow us to run a 2.4ghz network for certain devices and a 5ghz for everyone else. I am able to setup the router and connect but it seems when the 2.4ghz network drops the router drops all connections.

At first I had the networks setup with the same ssid, then changed the 5ghz network to a new ssid but was still losing connection when the 2.4ghz network dropped. This may be a simple routing issue i am overlooking (bit of a network newbie).

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 - No Signal For 2.4ghz Band?

Oct 27, 2011

On my new E4200, I cannot connect wirelessly to the 2.4GHZ band.  I can only connect to the 5GHZ band.  I know its not the distance because i've got my laptop only 2 feet away.  I've hit the refresh wireless network button, but the only network visible is my 5GHZ. I've also restarted the router, no luck

I went into the router settings and made sure that BOTH SSID'S are broadcasting a signal.and are enabled (ive got the channel and other settings set to auto).  I'm able to connect perfectly well to the 5GH band, and walk around the house, but nothing i've done, allows me to see the 2.4GHZ band?  So far, my wireless reception is poorer than my old wrt310n.

I installed an E4200 in an outdoor patio area where the ambient temperature can be high (Las Vegas area); however, the router is located in the shade without any direct exposure to the sun.  After using the router for about 15 minutes, the router is extremely hot and 2.4GHz band will stop working.  In addition, even when the router is working, the 5 GHz band connects at much higher speed than the 2.4 Ghz band.  The internet download speed is much higher using 5 GHz compared to 2.4 Ghz.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 2.4GHz Has Lesser Coverage Than WRT54G V2.2?

Jul 11, 2011

Both use the same encryption (WPA2-Personal), same channel and they are tested in the same location with g-only mode. Only one router is switched on at any one time during the test. When 3 g-client notebooks (of various brands) are associated with the E4200, the signal indicator is a single bar, wherelse they can get 3 bars with the WRT54G (in the same location). For Internet speed test on a 20Mbps link, WRT54G is able to substain about 10Mbps, but only 1-2Mbps with the E4200.

Is such difference in performance between the two router models normal? Is there any configuration required to tweak the E4200? Or is it a hardware related issue with E4200?

The E4200 has been updated with the latest available firmware as of yesterday.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 To Bond Two Channels Using 2.4GHz Spectrum

May 31, 2011

Using firmware 1.0.01, has anyone successfully gotten the E4200 to bond two channels using the 2.4GHz spectrum?  I just can't get it to bond.  I assume it's a firmware issue, yet to be fixed.  I've tried settings Auto (20 or 40), and nada.  It has never bonded.  The 5 GHz bonds fine.  There are a few interferences by the neighbours wifi, but nothing substantial that should prevent bonding.  I have this router at school too, and the same thing happens there, with the same firmware, so I doubt it's an interference issue.  I'm using WPA2 Personal encryption.  I tried auto channel, and setting channels to 1, 3, 5, and 11, nothing changed.

I know I'm not bonded because A. Max link speed is ~144Mbps, and B. using a program like inSSIDer tells me I'm only using one channel on the 2.4Ghz spec.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E3200 Some Random Disconnects On Devices Using 2.4GHz Frequency

Jul 24, 2011

I just recently (4 days ago) purchased an E3200 router.  I noticed some random disconnects on my devices using the 2.4GHz frequency.I installed inSSIDer from MetaGeek to see what was going on and noticed some strange behavior where the Amplitude on the 2.4GHz randomly drops dramatically.  Sometimes its once every 10 minutes, other times it happens 5 times in one minute.  I can't figure out what is the cause.  The 5GHz signal is steady as a rock.

What I tried so far:  Set the Channel to the least crowded channel instead of auto, upgraded the firmware, restarted the router all to no avail.  This is annoying to say the least.  It doesn't affect anything unless you are playing video games or running a remote desktop session, where a single disconnect is disastrous. I just upgraded from an old linksys wrt54g, tried a netgear n600 which was terrible, then swapped it out for the Cisco E3200..
