Protocols / Routing :: Cable Blocking Access To MSN?

Jan 16, 2013

We have three home systems connecting to the internet. Our cable/phone/internet provider upgraded their phone service to digital and installed a new modem/router combo (three months ago). Since then we've not been able to access MSN.com on our XP laptop and droid tablet but can access it on our windows 7 laptop. When the router settings are changed to "Bridged" and the router firewall is turned off, we can connect. We've changed the modem and the problem still continues. Our cable provider is stumped and so am I.

Protocols / Routing :: Getting Around Geographical IP Blocking?

Sep 2, 2011

I live outside the US but want to listen to US radio stations online and, naturally, a lot of them are blocked because I'm not in the US. I've tried a few places and applications, like UltraSurf, FoxyProxy, to get around this but they either don't work or are so convoluted as to be impossible to use. What else is out there that actually works and isn't pain to use?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Blocking MAC From VLAN Access 2950

Dec 11, 2011

We have a group of computers on their own VLAN.  A router allows internet access while keeping them sandboxed.  We don't want them accidentally connect to our production network.  We blocked their wireless MACs in unauthorized WAPs.  I'd like to do the same thing for their ethernet MACs on our switches, (a mixture of 2950,2960 and 2960G currently testing on C2960-LANBASE-M, Version 12.2(25)SEE2).  I've been unable to locate the correct method on google, by searching these boards or in the command reference.

What is the best practice for blocking a group of MACs from accessing a particular VLAN on a network consisting of several Layer 2 Switches?

I can access the website in other places(such as my library, another house, my university, my towns book store, etc.) but not at my own house. I can access the website anywhere but my own home! I contacted my ISP provider and he said that the website was not blocked by the ISP provider because the ISP consultant was able to access the website .I know the problem isn't rooted in my computer and believe that the problem is IP related because I was not able to access the website on either of the three computers at my house.

Protocols / Routing :: Can't Access Google Servers?

Jun 9, 2011

My computer won't connect to any of Google's servers. ANY of them. Gmail, docs, reader, nothin. I can visit youtube, but I cannot get to the log-in page. EVERY other site works pretty well. Heck, even using a site that uses a Recaptcha it doesn't load the recaptcha!Nothing wrong with my hosts file.

Tracert results in 6 successful hops and then times out (I think at my ISP?)
the last 2 successful hops are
chnddsrj01-ae2.0.rd.ph.cox.net
And then
langbprj02-ae2.rd.la.cox.net
Then all time outs

My other PC is connected to the SAME wifi network right now, and I'm posting from it, and it works fine. Both are on XP. Reboots haven't worked. Happens on all browsers. Every other website I can find is just fine.

Protocols / Routing :: No Internet Access With New Router

Dec 18, 2012

I have a little problem with installing my new router. There were quite a lot of problems with the old smc, so I've bought a TP-Link router. I installed it just alright, it said congratulations, you have internet. I don't have though, not even on the directly plugged computer. It's kind of frustrating, since the old router is still working like before. So I plugged an ethernet cable from the old router's lan to the tp-link wan and with that, the new network is working just fine. The problem with the internet access occurs only, if the router is directly plugged to the modem. (The computers do find the network but the connection is kind of offline.) I don't really know what could be the problem, since I'm a little new to routers. I've read almost everything in the new router's manual and I'm pretty sure it's installed correctly. (ADSL username and password copied from the old settings, mac address copied, all ip addresses pinged, done power cycle etc..) I thought about resetting the modem, but I'm a bit afraid of losing the old router's internet connection as well.

Protocols / Routing :: Opening Port 80 For WAN Access To Localhost?

Dec 22, 2012

So I am working on a website with MySQL/PHP that I have been developing on my Linux box. I wanted to show a friend my progress so I temporarily opened up port 80. So he was able to just type in my public IP and it brought him to my localhost index.

My question is, when I type in my IP address in the URL bar, does the web browser automatically just assume port 80? What happens if I want to have 2 different servers from the same local network and one is running through port 80 and the other is running through port 90? In this case, would I have to type ":90" to access the machine running on port 90?

Protocols / Routing :: DI-524 Can't Access Username / Password Field

Jun 26, 2012

Here's where my lack of knowledge comes in. I am working off a MacBook with no Ethernet connection, just wifi. Is what I am trying to do even possible? Or does the computer I configure the router with have to be hardwired to the Internet while I do it?

Protocols / Routing :: Can't Access Wireless Repeater Set-up / Admin Page

Dec 27, 2012

I have two wireless repeaters and can no longer access their set-up / admin page via default IP 192.168.10.1,I don't know the brand of the repeaters, which are commonly sold on eBay. Here's one example: eBay Item # 300829809133, They work well as repeaters, but it's frustrating that I can no longer access their set-up / admin page via default IP 192.168.10.1. Right now I have only one repeater plugged in and connected to my laptop via ethernet cable. The 2nd repeater is unplugged. The Wifi on my laptop is switched off and disabled, so I'm actually connected to the Internet via my laptop's ethernet port via ethernet cable to the repeater's ethernet port, then via wifi signal from the repeater to my Zyxel wireless router and Comcast cable modem. If I'm connected to the Internet via the repeater, why can't I access the repeater's set-up / admin page using default IP 192.168.10.1? When I enter http://192.168.10.1/ into Internet Explorer, I get only the error message "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage"

I am so worried. Can i revert the setting back to dsl uplink?I can connect to the internet very smoothly using my old router so you can't blame my phone line or lan wire. I have tried reset the new router many times but still the ADSL light never lights up. And the ADSL light is ok because when i turn the router on, it lights with all the others.

Protocols / Routing :: Buffalo WHR-G125 - Can't Access Router Settings (404 Error)

Aug 31, 2011

I have a Buffalo WHR-G125 router which was given to me for free by my ISP for being a loyal client. At home I have a computer, a laptop and a netbook. The router is connected to the computer and I have no trouble accessing the Internet on all three of these devices. I can open pages, download etc.

However: However if I decide to host a server on some game, my friends cannot connect. After doing some research, I found out that certain ports are "closed" (whatever that means) and I need to open them in order for everything to start working again."

Anyway, I checked the infamous site "portforward.com" for instructions on how to open these ports. It was all fine and dandy, until the point where they stated I need to access my router settings page ("default gateway" or whatever, you'll have to excuse my ignorance). I entered "ipconfig" in cmd and it turns out my default gateway is 192.168.1.1. So I entered this in the URL bar of my browser and got a nasty surprise:

"404 Not Found The requested URL was not found"

I am truly stumped. The address is not accessible on neither the computer, nor the laptop or the netbook. I tried some automatic port forwarding software, but it didn't seem to do anything for me.

The only reason for this I can think of is that my ISP is probably blocking the router settings page for some reason (and how unfortunate, I can't even complain, because it's free, after all).

I tried asking on the official Buffalo forums and even tried asking for support and got pretty much the same message: "Try resetting. However, if it's flashed, you can't do anything.".

Not exactly sure what to do right now. My worries:

1.) I'm not even exactly sure how to reset the darn router

2.) I'm scared that reseting won't do a thing and even if it does, I'm not sure I'll be able to reconfigure the entire thing by myself and the worst case scenario, not having internet at all.

Is there any way to access the friggin router settings page?

Linksys Cable / DSL :: DG834GT Website Blocking By Keyword

Feb 18, 2011

WAG320 allows website blocking, to enable this you can use a keyword. I would like to use this function to block anoying advert sites (in the same way I could with my Netgear DG834GT) - However the way this function has been implemented is less than ideal.

e.g. when a site is blocked by the router, the router does not return a response - this is great until that site forms only part of a web page that is permitted. What then happens is the web page takes forever to load as the responses have to timeout for the blocked components.

The way this function *should* have been implemented, is the router should return a blank response for each of the blocked sites. Netgear do this and it works a treat, they even put up a banner saying "Website blocked by Netgear".

This is such a simple feature, why has Cisco overlooked this and how do I go about raising a product enhancement ? I've been through the helpdesk which quite frankly is a farse, they asked me to reflash my firmware which surprisingly didn't resolve the issue - they then told me to send them the unit back because it must have a fault !?!? (and I have to pay for postage of course!) I explained the issue about 5 times, but the operator on the other end was just a script reader and I could not speak to an engineer - very poor.

Blocking Individuals Internet Access?

May 21, 2012

I am setting up a network for a friend with children. He has a BT homehub and wants to block their access between certain hours. However by using access control on BT it tells you that you have been blocked which is no good as he cannot feign ignorance and pretend he doesn't know what to do (as his kids will pester him to fix it). He therefore wants to block their access more discreetly (as if the internet was generally timing out or messing up instead of actually displaying they have access control). Is there a way to block an individual's access on the router without blocking everybody either on a timer or manually done each time (thus if there isn't a way of automating it he can at least do this manually each time).

D-Link DIR-825 :: Blocking Access To Website?

For the last week, I haven't been able to access my banking web site (Royal Bank in Canada).  It doesn't matter which browser (FireFox, IE, Chrome) or computer (desktop, laptop) or even my cell (on WiFi).It must be the router (DIR-825, HW-B1, FW-2.07NA) since I can connect to the web site fine if I connect straight to the modem.  (Also, if I turn off WiFi on my cell, I can connect to their web site but once I turn WiFi back on, it wont connect).I tried restoring to factory settings but that didn't work.I tried some of the suggestions here: http:[url].....

- Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping. Advanced/QoS.

- Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.

- Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking

- Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.

- Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.

- Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.

Linksys Access Point :: WAP610N Is Blocking LAN

May 12, 2013

I use my WAP610N as access point (AP) in a network with a router.Firmware is up to date (1.0.0.4 build 7).After I connect my mobile phone the AP crashes after a few minutes. (The firmware of the mobile phone is also up to date.)Then it blocks the whole LAN until I disconnect the network cable from the AP. Then the rest of the network works just fine.Blocking means, that a computer connected to a lan port of the router can't ping anything nor has access to the internet anymore.I need to power off the WAP610N and after the restart it works again.

Also is there any way to debug or at least show some kind of log on the WAP610N? The web client seems to have no such features. Is there an additional URL with more commands? It seems that theres no telnet console either.

D-Link DIR-655 :: Blocking Access To Websites Doesn't Seem To Work

Feb 26, 2012

Like others I see on this board, we've got middle- and high-school age kids whose access to FB and other sites needs to be controlled/scheduled.

I thought the DIR-655 was great, in that it has features that, on the face of it, would seem to be ideal for blocking domains and restricting access.

My problem:  I've never been able to get this to work.

I've set up schedules and created lists of domains that I want to limit access to according to the schedules, but the only constraint I've ever gotten to stick is blocking access completely to the router.

*None* of the schedule-based or website-based access controls have ever worked; I'll put the block in place to my daughter's computer's MAC address so she shouldn't be able to get to youtube or facebook, save, bounce the router, but then I go by her room and she's still busily chatting away online to her FB friends.

Based on similar posts I've seen on this forum, this may not be a unique problem.

So in a nutshell, this is what I want to do:

1) Block certain computers (identifiable by MAC address)

2) from being able to get to particular named domains (and any of their sub-domains)

3) according to a schedule that I can create and modify.

My preference would be to do this in the router, but again, responses I've seen here suggest that may not be possible.

Linksys Wireless Router :: E4200 Firmware 1.0.02 Blocking VPN Access?

I cannot connect to my company’s VPN after installing the current firmware (FW_E4200_1.0.02.013_US_20110524) on my E4200 router. Version 1.0.01 was on the router when I received it, and it worked without issues. As soon as I upgraded version 02, I could not initialize a VPN connection. When I try to start a VPN session, I get a "page not found" error when attempting to initiate SSL VPN service using a Microsoft Forefront Unified Access Gateway. VPN pass through is enabled for all protocols in the e4200’s setup. As soon as I revert to firmware 01, everything works fine again.

I did a fresh download and re-flashed the 02 firmware just to make sure that it wasn’t an issue with a bad download or a faulty flash. The problem is consistent and repeatable. I have upgraded and downgraded twice, and the results are exactly the same. My VPN connection works with firmware 01, and it fails with version 02. There is a something different in the 02 firmware that is blocking VPN access.

The reason I am asking is that I am in Iraq right now and I want to allow my fellow team members access to the wireless for using viber on their iphones but one cat even though he has hardwired internet wants to continuously suck off my wireless for his computer to download stuff since I paid for faster internet. I am trying to do this quietly and still allow him access to the shared drives on the LAN.
