Im using d-link 855 router to block internet to certain machines, using access control within dlink and then in putting the ip for the right machines. But it seems the machines keep changing the IP adresses everything they boot thus getting internet access the next day.

I accidentally connected to computer fix it firm that linked to my PC and wanted a large sum to fix the problem which he said was due to large number of temp?? internet files and once removed he would change the IP address of the desktop computer? Is this diagnosis logical and can I do it on my own. The router is definetely working - both laptops access the internet and I was recently able to hook up a Samsung Blu-Ray player using the same security code I used for the I-Phone.

It doesn't matter which browser (FireFox, IE, Chrome) or computer (desktop, laptop) or even my cell (on WiFi).It must be the router (DIR-825, HW-B1, FW-2.07NA) since I can connect to the web site fine if I connect straight to the modem. (Also, if I turn off WiFi on my cell, I can connect to their web site but once I turn WiFi back on, it wont connect).I tried restoring to factory settings but that didn't work.I tried some of the suggestions here: http:[url].....
- Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping. Advanced/QoS.
- Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual.
- Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking
- Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
- Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall.
- Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.
Like others I see on this board, we've got middle- and high-school age kids whose access to FB and other sites needs to be controlled/scheduled.
I thought the DIR-655 was great, in that it has features that, on the face of it, would seem to be ideal for blocking domains and restricting access.
My problem: I've never been able to get this to work.
I've set up schedules and created lists of domains that I want to limit access to according to the schedules, but the only constraint I've ever gotten to stick is blocking access completely to the router.
*None* of the schedule-based or website-based access controls have ever worked; I'll put the block in place to my daughter's computer's MAC address so she shouldn't be able to get to youtube or facebook, save, bounce the router, but then I go by her room and she's still busily chatting away online to her FB friends.
Based on similar posts I've seen on this forum, this may not be a unique problem.
So in a nutshell, this is what I want to do:
1) Block certain computers (identifiable by MAC address)
2) from being able to get to particular named domains (and any of their sub-domains)
3) according to a schedule that I can create and modify.
My preference would be to do this in the router, but again, responses I've seen here suggest that may not be possible.
Every time I turn on my PC I find I have lost internet access. I can fix this by going to Network Connections, disabling the connection, re-enabling the connection.But why does this happen? I notice the the following:1. When I look at the Network Connection it shows "Local Area Connection, Network 3, Unidentified network, Realtek PCIe....."2. When I re-enable the network AVG tells me the Firewall settings have changed - Directly Connected to Network has been set to Unidentified..... etc

However by using access control on BT it tells you that you have been blocked which is no good as he cannot feign ignorance and pretend he doesn't know what to do (as his kids will pester him to fix it). He therefore wants to block their access more discreetly (as if the internet was generally timing out or messing up instead of actually displaying they have access control).Is there a way to block an individual's access on the router without blocking everybody either on a timer or manually done each time (thus if there isn't a way of automating it he can at least do this manually each time).

I have gone into the web based set up page and under access controls have enabled and added this computer to the list. I have blocked http, https, ftp and nntp. I don't know if this is enough. The reason I am asking is that I am in Iraq right now and I want to allow my fellow team members access to the wireless for using viber on their iphones but one cat even though he has hardwired internet wants to continuously suck off my wireless for his computer to download stuff since I paid for faster internet. I am trying to do this quietly and still allow him access to the shared drives on the LAN. Sooooo If I block him just outright will he still have access to the drives or do I need to pick and choose like I did above and if I need to pick and choose did I miss anything other then pop3 email and imap?
View 2 Replies View RelatedAfter updating the firmware of my WRVS4400N from V 2.0.1.3 to 2.0.2.1 all traffic was blocked for all machines, even some not included in the list of PCs. As the log was showing that all traffic was blocked by access policies, I disabled the only rule I had (blocking access to some sites to some MAC address list) and everything worked fine.I tried creating a new, simpler rule but after activation it blocked again all traffic for all the LAN.After many trials, I decided to roll back to the previous V2.0.1.3 which solved this problem.

We have a server running Win XP with two folders, one for the teachers which is password protected and the other for the students which doesn't require a password. Up until two days it has been working well. However now the server keeps disconnecting from the internet quite randomly which stops us from connecting to the shared folders.
I've noticed that a caution icon appears next to the ethernet icon in the task bar when this problems occurs on the server. I have tried to right click and choose the repair option but it tell me that it cannot resolve the ip address. In some cases rebooting the server resolves the issues but in many case it doesn't.
I have an RV110W running firmware version 1.0.1.6 and I am trying to figure out how to enable website blocking in the Internet Access Policy screen. The Add Row button is grayed out in that section, as are the associated checkboxes.
Is there something else one needs to do to enable this feature?
If I set a name etc. at the top, and click save, it tells me "You must at least set a website blocking or PCs rule," so it is not the case that one has to save some information before continuing!
My company has a peer to peer network of 10 personal computers without a server. Operating systems from Windows XP to Vista. I've recently installed a Cisco RV120W Wireless-N VPN Firewall. It's configured in DHCP Server Mode with printers/copiers that have static IPs below the DHCP range.
I'm having a problem with certain stations being used for personal networking, shopping, etc. during business hours. Consequently I would like to limit internet access on these stations. However, some internet access is required because of online database software that's an integral part of our business. I've been reading in the Administration Guide about URL Blocking. Would it be possible to give static IPs to certain stations and then limit their internet access to 1 or 2 specific websites?
FYI, I've read about the Trusted Domains and Blocked Keywords but cannot quite understand how to parley this into the solution I need.
I just installed a TP-Link router. Everything (almost) works: PC internet, laptops internet, email, etc. An application on my PC can't communicate through the router to the internet server now. I am sure it is a port/IP address issue. But I am unable to figure out a solution. I have already changed the IP (of the computer with Windows 7) to a static IP address. I guess now I need to get the port access done. I know the ports in question from calling the vendor. I just need to get the application through the router.

I've tried to visit URL or any of its' sister sites from my desktop, my laptop, my iTouch, even my ps3, I've also tried cross-browsing to no avail. I've checked the router page, apparently my Hardware Version is B1 and my Firmware Version is 2.00NA. Access Control is unchecked and there are no sites at all listed under Website Filter. I've also tried resetting using the reset-hole and also by pulling off the power chord. Also did a factory-reset from the router page, the problem persists despite all of that.Every other site works just fine, it's just my university site that refuses to load up. I've browsed the last 7-8 pages of this forum, this doesn't seem to be a common problem based on that little sample. So what gives exactly? I used to be able to visit those sites just fine prior to few days ago.

After i reset my d-link DSL-2640B router (would this initiate an update?) my x-box would not connect to the internet, There is no problem connecting to the router and the home network. Everything is talking to each other and everything else is connected to the internet including the TV. The router must just be blocking the x-box and only from yesterday. I checked ports that are talked about and i think i set up port triggering, but then noticed the firewall is disabled anyway.

View 3 Replies View RelatedI cannot connect to my company’s VPN after installing the current firmware (FW_E4200_1.0.02.013_US_20110524) on my E4200 router. Version 1.0.01 was on the router when I received it, and it worked without issues. As soon as I upgraded version 02, I could not initialize a VPN connection. When I try to start a VPN session, I get a "page not found" error when attempting to initiate SSL VPN service using a Microsoft Forefront Unified Access Gateway. VPN pass through is enabled for all protocols in the e4200’s setup. As soon as I revert to firmware 01, everything works fine again.
I did a fresh download and re-flashed the 02 firmware just to make sure that it wasn’t an issue with a bad download or a faulty flash. The problem is consistent and repeatable. I have upgraded and downgraded twice, and the results are exactly the same. My VPN connection works with firmware 01, and it fails with version 02. There is a something different in the 02 firmware that is blocking VPN access.
I've been using my WRT310Nv2 Cisco wireless Gigabit N router for 2 weeks now, and sometimes, it's blocking access to Facebook.comI am not aware if it does the same thing with other websites, but my guess is that if I fix this one, I'll fix them all. So here I go, I click on my Facebook icon in my bookmarks and all goes well. Then, a while after, Facebook doesn't respond anymore and I'm send to a page that says "this is probably not the webpage you are looking for!" and it goes on about someone probably trying to hack my Internet and so on. But it's impossible: my network is under a solid WPA/WPA 2 security access. So I try again and click on the FB icon, and it shows me this:

I am trying to set up an access policy on my WRT400N. Whenever an access policy is enabled, all internet acess is completely blocked. This occurs irregardless of what the access policy is supposed to block. Even a blank access policy that allows access to everything and doesn't have any computers registered still blocks everything. How do I get it to stop completely blocking internet access?

I have a LAN connection in the main PC and a further dialer like thing with user name and password is executed to access the internet. Each of the customers have diff IDs and passwords based on the bandwidth of the connection. The problem is that first am i connecting the Router in the right way? I put the main LAN cable into the Router's WAN port and the Other Ethernet wire i put is that from PC's Lan port to Router's LAn port. Is this right? I am confused because in the guide a modem is also mentined and i think thats for DSL users...
If i use the above settings, my LAN gets connected and the dialer also works and gets connected but when i access the internet from it, that doesn't work and no webpage opens.
Similarly, the Wireless connetion is displayed in the Laptop and when i access it, it gets connected, but it has a yellow exclamation mark in it, and the same goes here that the internet does not work. My internet connection id fine because i am sing internet no using main Lan ports of Pc, so i guess the problem i s with my Settings...
I've had my DIR 615 router for quite some time. The hardware version is C1, firmware 3.01 originally. It's been fine for the most part (asides from connection issues now and then with the internet - which we rectified by unplugging modem and/or router). A couple nights ago we had a storm and the next morning the router would not connect to the internet. I tried unplugging the router and modem a number of times but could never establish a connection. The internet globe LED was originally orange but after I cut off the power, it never came back on. I tried a number of different cables between the modem and router and could not fix the issue. I bypassed the router totally and the internet works fine. After a lot of failed attempts, I decided to reset the router and reinstall it with the disc. I followed the instructions and kept getting error 322 that the router could not be found. I tried 3 different computers and 5 different wires to fix the problem but to no avail. I kept encountering the same error on each computer. Since the router can't be seen, I must bypass it totally to get any internet access so trying the online setup doesn't work because I can't connect to the router and then to the modem since there is no internet access. So now I'm stuck. I'm not sure if my router is damaged from the storm. All other lights work (LAN and wireless icon) but I can't get any internet access through the router. I'm not sure if I should just go buy another router or not. The installation checks out fine until connecting power to the router and then it can't be found.

I set my TL-MR3020 to AP to act as a repeater to boost my wifi signal in the living.My TL-MR3020 is able to ping the main router but there is no internet access (no Internet light) on the TL-MR3020 . The main router ip is 192.168.1.1 and TL-MR3020 IS 192.168.254.0I followed exactly the instructions on how to configure the TL-MR3020 from TP-Link website and everything seems ok except no internet
I just bought the 655, mainly for school/Xbox. My parents use it also, but I bought it for myself mainly (shh). I set it up correctly and got connected, but suddenly I wasn't allowed Internet access. The router connects to my laptop, but won't get Internet access. I called customer service and he didn't know what to do. We tried everything he knew and nothing worked. I don't want to return the router cause I read it was very good, but I need internet for school. I have Rev. A and F/W 2.00.
View 8 Replies View RelatedSince I got my TP-Link 1043ND working in a previous thread I thought that my second router could be in good use at my brothers house about 50m from mine.I've got a modem in the basement, it's wired to the first router (TP-Link), the TP-Link sends wireless signals to five units, one of those units are my brothers computer. The Internet works fine on every unit.Now I thought maybe my brother will have better wireless signals to the first router if I connect a second router between. I guess the second router should be working like a switch then.I have the both routers MAC addresses. I got inside the first router and entered the WDS option, I chose LAN instead of Disabled and entered the second routers wireless MAC. Then I took the first routers MAC and entered it in the second routers WDS options MAC and Enabled it. It didn't work so I entered Static Routing Table on the second router and entered the first routers IP (started with 85.228) which I found in the dd-wrt menu. Then I entered same Netmask as the first router and the same Gateway with the interface LAN. No Internet access thou from the second router.The second routers LAN IP is set to 192.168.1.3 (the second router has 192.168.1.2 as LAN IP). DHCP is set to disabled at the second router. The funny thing is if I set the second router to the same LAN IP as the first router and the same DHCP settings with DHCP enabled it says that I have Internet Access but I can't enter the Internet
View 4 Replies View RelatedMy desktop recently broke so i bought my first laptop. I have AT&T DSL and i bought a new D-Link DSL-2640B modem/router so i could have wireless internet. I installed it and i was able to use it with the ethernet cable, however when i tried to use wifi, it worked for only about 2 minutes before it disconnected.. Now when i try again it says that it is connected (full 5 bars) but it also says there is no internet access and i cannot use the internet.
Also, before, with the old modem i was able to just connect the ethernet cable to the laptop and just start using the internet. Now i have to connect by putting in my username and password provided by my ISP almost like if it was dial up. I don't know why i have to do this now but not before.

I migrated my internet from PPPOE to DHCP. My wifi is working with no problem but when I hook up my computer to 1 of the 4 Lan ports I can't seem to connect to the internet I can however log in my router no problem. But I don't get internet access... I wonder what could be the problem. I tried resetting my router and modem to see if just a bug or something but to no avail.

I'm a court reporter trying to set up a connection between my laptop and my court reporting machine, which has built in wifi capabilities. My court house has public wifi but there is always some interference which causes transmission between my laptop and machine to freeze. I was told I could create my "own wifi" between my machine and laptop if i bought a router. is this possible with this hardware?
I have managed to get the wireless portion of my router working for the two wireless laptops in my house (one is Win XP, the other Linux) and am now trying to connect via rj45 ports + ethernet cat5e cable, my router and desktop computer that is running Windows XP. My connection type, set when I setup my wireless router, is pppoe.I have my router connected to a SpeedStream Modem, my ISP is Bell.I am worried that I will have to purchase a hub/switch in order to allow the desktop (PC3) to access the internet, although it seems to me (from reading other internet postings) that what I am attempting to do should work with just the modem+router setup that I have.I haven't worked with Windows LAN networks before (wired, not wireless) I have only dealt with my laptop's wireless internet connections and it seems much simpler to deal with than wired lan connections.
