Two Wireless Routers In One Network?

Sep 30, 2011

Just got virgin internet installed in my uni house, found out that my room is the only one that doesn't get any wireless signal. So to sort this out i bought a homeplug, plugged it in by the new virgin super hub and one in my room. This works perfectly fine, but im limited by the ethernet cable, so i thought i would plug in my old dlink wireless router to see if i could make my own wireless network just for my room. I could connect to it but just cant get any internet. Ive tried making the IP adress's static and using the following settings on both:

Static IP: 82.11.73.246
IP mask: 255.255.252.0
Gateway: 82.11.72.1
Primary DNS: 194.168.4.100
Secondary DNS: 194.168.8.100

Routers / Switches :: Unable To Recognize Wireless Network Router On Wireless Laptop?

Jan 15, 2012

One moment the laptop was using the wireless connection from the router in our house and the next it lost internet access and then wasn't able to recognize the SSID or connection at all on the available wireless connections. We have reset the router and restarted the laptop countless times yet the only internet access we have is on the computer the router is hooked up to.The wireless connection works neither on the laptop nor the Wii, both previously works merely hours ago and with no problems until now.We assume there is an issue with the router itself, whether it be a loose ethernet cord (which only faintly can be moved in its place). It's almost as if the router is stopping them (Wii, and laptop) from having access. When we explore the wireless internet properties on the laptop, it shows the wireless connection, yet only there and doesn't give access to it. Could it be the router, or could the company have restricted WiFi only to the computer it is hooked up to?

D-link Dir-655Connecting Two Identical Wireless Routers On One Network?

Oct 25, 2012

I have the D-link dir-655 wireless router connected at my cable modem and i HAD a d'link switch patched in about 40 feet away. The switch died after 45 days.To solve the problem and extend my network I purchased an identicaldir-655 router to replace the switch. My thought was that i would configure both routers the same and be able to use the same network settings to access the network throughout my house. It didn't work.I even tried changing the IP address on the second router but it did something to the modem. After resetting everything, the original router works again. D'link support says what i am trying cannot be done, but i know it can.

WRT54G - Connecting Two Wireless Routers Via Powerline Network

Feb 3, 2012

my goal is to share my cable modem signal over my two story house using two wireless routers. The delima is that the routers don't support wireless bridging and if they did, the signal is too weak to make it worth while.

The remedy I came up with... buy a pair of powerline network adapters and connect one router to the other so I could have a good signal upstairs and then a good signal downstairs.

Downstairs, I have the cable modem connected to the Linksys WRT54G router, which has a line out to my blu ray player, wirelessly feeds a PC downstairs and then has a cable run to the powerline adapter.

Upstairs, I have a cat5 connecting the powerline adapter (which was tested and works with laptop) to the data input port on my second wireless router, the netgear wndr3400.

I can't get the netgear upstairs to pull an IP address from the linksys router downstairs over the powerline network.

Cisco Routers :: WRVS4400N Wireless Network Connection

I need trouble-shooting wireless network connectivity issues that arose recently:We use a Comcast modem and two WRVS4400N's as wireless routers/wireless access points. We recently got our comcast service upgraded to 100/20 and also got rid of our static ip address.  As a result (I think there must be a sort of causal relationship here, but I'm not sure what it is) we can no longer connect to the internet using our wireless networks.  We can connect to the wireless network, but have "No Internet Access."

D-Link DIR-615 :: Connect 2 Wireless Modem Routers + Switch In Home Network

Nov 14, 2011

I have 3 pieces of hardware:

1. Green Packet DX-230 WiMAX modem with router
2. D-Link DIR-615 ver G2 (from my ISP)
3. D-Link 8 port desktop switch

I previously used the DIR-615 with my high speed broadband connection. However I had to move to a new house and here I can only get WiMAX. I want to...Place the WiMAX modem upstairs to serve as modem and wireless access point Have the DIR-615 function as the main router and firewall (downstairs) Use the switch to connect all the rooms in my house FYI my WiMAX modem has no connection configurations. I just plug it in and it'll connect automatically to the WiMAX signal. It has 2 LAN ports but no WAN port. From my understanding of networking, I have to turn off DHCP on my WiMAX modem, put it in the same IP range as my DIR-615 (192.168.0.100-199), and disable UPNP and NATPMP. After this I'm stuck. How do I tell my DIR-615 to use the WiMAX modem as it's WAN connection?Should I reserve an IP for the modem in my DIR-615?

Cisco Routers :: Join Network With RV016 To Network With RV082 Via Point To Point Air Bridge

Apr 19, 2012

Due to bandwith requirements, we need to join a network with a RV016 to a network with an RV082 via a point to point air bridge. (VPN over adls was not cutting it) fortunatelly there is line of sight.

The info
LocationA                                LocationB
RV016                                     RV082
WAN1 ADSL modem                WAN1 ADSL Modem
WAN2 DedicatedIP modem       WAN2 Free
WAN3..7 free

[code]....

We need LAN-B endpoints to be able to reach servers on location A and viceversa.

We pre configured two point to point radios for the tower people to install. (we could change this configs)

Topology (crude sketch)[URL]

Our questions: best port to plug the radios into the RVs  WAN ports? switch ports?  What rules or static routes need to be created?

Possible To Use Two Routers On One Network?

Jun 29, 2011

Probably a really dumb question, but networking is the one area of computing about which I am clueless. We have two desktop PC's (on different floors) that are currently networked via a hardwired router. We wanted wireless but at the time it was installed, the technician said it would not work because there is a metal floor separating the two (because one room is partially under the garage). The internet hook-up comes into the basement pc; I would like to have wireless at least on the main floor. My first question: has wireless improved sufficiently that I can connect two or three pc's that are a considerable distance and a metal floor apart? If not, can I add a second, wireless, router on the main floor. FYI, at the moment we are dealing with three different operating systems: Windows 7 in the basment, XP on the main floor; Vista on the laptop ... although we will probably be all "7" fairly soon.

Routers / Switches :: Smurf Attacks On Belkin Wireless Routers Reply?

Jan 2, 2013

If your wireless indicator is flashing red when you discover the smurf, it can mean that someone has tried to logon with an incorrect password. this is not necessarily an attack, it could be someone you have allowed access too, who has forgotten the password? In this case entering the correct password will solve the problem. However putting your own MAC address into the filter will simply block your own machine.

Home Network :: How To Set 2 Routers For One ISP

Jun 30, 2011

I needed to set my router's firewall from medium to low. I was ecstatic about this until I came across another problem. I noticed that when I connected my ps3 (wired) to my Motorola modem it showed that I was on a NAT3 connection.Explanation of NAT types for PS3

Type 1 - Connected directly to the internet (no router/firewall). Should have no issues.

Type 2 - Connected through a router properly. Should have no issues.

Type 3 - Connected through a router without open ports or DMZ setup for PS3. Everything should function properly, but you may have connection, voice chat or other issues

I tried forwarding my ports for the PS3 to no avail. I also read about DMZ/IP passthrough and that didn't work either. Thinking that it had something to do with my ISP again, I called them up only to speak to a complete asshole saying I was too stupid to understand anything I was trying to do. He said I should bridge my MOTOROLA modem, but with bridging I lose WiFi don't I? I haven't tried this method yet, but if it works then I would like to have my WiFi still available to me.The Linksys router, which I want to serve as a wireless point is this one. The Linksys router is not connected yet, but after I connect it I would like to use the MOTOROLA modem/router strictly as a modem with nothing else connected to it. Is that the best way to go? Will I experience a bit of drop in speed if my desktop and my ps3 were connected to my Linksys? I want the wireless to use on my phones and laptops that I own.tl;dr. 2 routers 1 isp. 2nd router to use as wifi and connect desktop and ps3 to it while achieving open ports for gaming and torrent downloads?
