Im trying to connect to my wireless router but when I hit the "connect to" I see other wifi network and cant find my own wifi router in the list. I tried to check the network location but it seems to bring me no where too.

My BEFSR81 is my primary router and has DHCP turned on. The router's DHCP range is set to accommodate 12 devices. I have three computers wired to it and their Host names (as specified in the set-up of each computer) show up in the router's DHCP device table. I also have two printers (one old Brother HL5250DN laser printer and one new HP Photosmart Premier C410a inkjet printer) connected and there are blanks where the Host name should go. I would like to be able to tell which printer is which when I am looking at the DHCP device table. How can I get a names associated with each printer's IP address in the router's DHCP device table? (The real problem is that the router seems to have both printers at the same IP address (192.168.1.100) and if I can get one of them to change I'd like to know which one it was!)

View 1 Replies View RelatedMy PS3,my ipod touch, and my dads ipod touch is on my wireless. and every once in a while my internet stops working on both my ipod and my ps3 after anything gets unplugged on the router but for some reason, the wireless internet still works on my dads ipod touch. everything is connected with static settings I do not know how to fix this, my dad says that it has something to do with a setting that keeps getting reset, he has fixed it before by doing something in cygwin or command prompt I think its called.Anyway, I've tried pinging my ip address on my ipod but I get no response.

View 14 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my wireless router from D-Link DIR-615 to D-Link DIR-685. Before the changeover, all of my devices were connecting to the router, although I had several problems with dropped connections, etc. The devices in use were:
- Desktop computer
- Laptop computer
- All-in-one touchscreen computer
- Netbook
- iPhone (original model)
- HP TouchPad tablet
- Sony Blu-Ray player
- Two internet radios (Aluratek and Livio)
- Wii
ALL of these devices were connected wirelessly to the network. When I set up the new router, I used a different network name/SSID, but kept the same security key/password. All of the router settings were kept the same (e.g., WPA-2, etc.). After the new router was up and running, every single one of the devices listed above connected (after an initial setup with the new network name, of course) EXCEPT the All-in-one/touchscreen computer. I've tried over and over, and it refuses to accept the security key/password. (The desktop, laptop, and touchscreen are all running Windows 7 64-bit Home Premium.) After doing some research, I tried some suggested solutions, but nothing seems to work. Nothing on the problem computer has changed since it was last connected to the old router. I checked the "Properties" of the network device on both the Desktop (which has no problems connecting) and the Touchscreen, and they are identical: WPA-2, AES, etc. And I'm 100% positive I'm entering the security key correctly. I've rebooted the router and the computer several times.

Anyway, that connection is perfectly fine, and up until recently I had been using a Hawking Range Extender to repeat the signal through my house connecting it to my PC's ethernet port and using the Internet Connection Sharing feature. For some reason that is beyond me it suddenly stopped working. Or rather, it will work for a couple minutes and then stop receiving packets.I'm thinking the device is faulty since it never actually worked that great to begin with. Is this type of setup possible for a wireless Router such as a lynksys device? Or would I need a repeater/range extender like I have been using?Again I would use the Wifi from my PC to share the connection with the Router to broadcast that signal through my house.

But now It only allows my laptop, when I try to connect with my ipod touch or desktop, not only does it fail, the entire network crashes and my laptop loses it and its gone. It then takes about 2 minutes to come back up. The current location of where the cable comes into the house is unfortunately on the far-left end of the house, which means that the right end of the house receives no signal from their DIR-825 wireless N router.
What I've been looking into is the best way to wirelessly extend the wireless signal to the other end of the house. It seems straightforward enough to use an ethernet cable and access point to extend a wireless network, but that is not really a good option for this house. After reading many forum posts (and not being an expert myself) it seems like it may be possible to wirelessly extend the wireless network with another router, although it appeared that this is much less common (if at all possible) with wireless N routers.
what device I need to accomplish what I've described above? Another router, or some kind of access point/bridge? I saw at least one rather expensive wireless N repeater online (a Hawking brand, I believe) but was hoping to avoid that option initially, but if that is the only way to go then so be it :-)

Looking at some of the cisco docs, i still have some questions on how to get it working in my specific enviroment.
I have the wlc conected to the lan via a port-channel. 2 wlan (ssid1 and ssid2) each wlan maps to a specific vlan (dynamic int), the management int (also used for dynamic ap-manager) on a third vlan (vlan x).
I need to get Bonjour working between ssid1 and vlan-x, so my wireless clients (in ssid1 can use bonjour with their laptops) can synch between wireless and wired. I know that you can do this within the same wlan (ssid) but in this case, when a user has a laptop wired into the network he cant comunicate to the wireless device. I read about Vlan Select and Multicast Optimization however, from what i understand i need to setup an interface group and just assign my wlan1 and management int to it, correct?
when or if i need a different segment (vlan y) in my lan to also "bonjour" with ssid1? For this i assume i would need to create a dynamic interface on the wlc using the same IP segment and do the a new interface group?
