I have a LinkSys WRT54G Wireless-G Broadband Router located in my basement office. My IBM T42 ThinkPad running Windows XP Pro has an Intel(R) PRO Wireless 2200BG Network Connection adaptor. The signal strength on the main floor of our townhouse is ~ 80%. My problem is the signal frequently disconnects then recovers automatically causing frustration when browsing the internet. My question: Should I upgrade to a new Wireless N router OR purchase a WiFi Range Extender? since my laptop has a Wireless-G adaptor would a Wireless-N router provide a stronger signal?

I checked on internet many people are facing such issue.Only thing I can do to resolve this is to reset my modem, but still this gets hacked even on changing my password.I am not able to understand how is it possible to modify the settings of modem when I have changed the password.Modem Model: Beetel 220BX.
View 5 Replies View RelatedMy Linksys WAG160N has worked fine for 2 years however all of a sudden when I power it up it's start normal but after 4 seconds all ethernet lights blink one time and all start from the beginning, it's like it reboot every four seconds. It happens so quick I can't even get to the Internet/Network Settings in WIndows Control Panel.I have tried accessing router setup and installing firmware and both have failed - it can not find the network address. If I try to reset with the reset button on the rear (30sec reset), it stops rebooting and the power LED starts to blink red/green and the ethernet LED of the port where my cable is connected starts to blink alsoI have set IP address manually on my computer as per the Cisco support pages (192.168.1.1), still no response from ping.I have also tried to reinstall firmware using TFTP but it also fails because it can not find the network address.

View 6 Replies View RelatedCheck to see if there is a firmware upgrade and there is. Well I updated it with the newest and only one out there. I did the upgrade, said sucessful and now it will just random reboot or something........ every few minutes the power light starts flashing....... then all the light go out, then power flashes again and it comes back up. I have tried many times to reflash it with that new firmware but no avail. I wish I had the old firmware back because it was working fine till I did this upgrade.
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have an issue when I use Airplay through my iPhone4S, my router reboots after 30 secs or so. I have a WRT54G2 v1.5 and the receiver is a Pioneer VSX-1021-K.
However, when I used Airplay through itunes from my laptop, it works just fine. In addition, when I borrowed my neighbors router's(BELKIN) it was working fine also. So this lead me to believe that it's my router that is causing the issue.
I have a E2500 router that until recently has been working fine, the router currently will reboot at random occasions. I have tried resetting the router to factory defaults to test if the firmware was an issue but both the factory default and the most recent firmware build(1.0.05 build 2) offered on the download support page. I have tried 2 different AC adapters to test power and two different Cat5 cables so hard ware wise everything is looking good. I am concerned that it may be an issue still with firmware or with the cooling fan and the unit may be overheating.
View 1 Replies View RelatedMy WAG320N has developed a fault where by after 1, 2, maybe 3 clicks on the web interface and the router reboots. The browser can no longer connect until it is closed and reopened (firefox). Firmware is: v1.00.12
Interestingly, if I use a different browser it doesn't seem to reboot and I can click away for ever. However, firefox reproduces the problem every time. FIrefox version is 7.0.1
So I have a WRT160N firmware v3.0 wired connection to my PC, and at least once a day my connection speed drops from 2mbs down to almost dial up speeds at 60kps. Just unplugging the router then plugging it back in seems to fix it every time. I've contacted my service provider and they say there's no issue on their end, and since I don't get this problem when I plug the modem directly to the PC I agree with them. I've done a factory reset and that didn't work. I've gone through the FAQ and can't find anything useful in there.
View 7 Replies View RelatedNew E4200v2 router, latest 2.0.26 firmware. Reboots on its own <or> locks up and requires power recycle 3-4 times a day. More frequent if I attach a USB drive to USB port. Reset to factory, only using as a router (no USB drive, no printer sharing, no TimeMachine backups, etc.)Still locks up or reboots 3-4 times a day. I need a reliable router that does not reboot so often.

I upgraded my E3000 to a new E4200 several months ago. I use an SSL VPN to connect to work which worked fine on 1.0.01 and 1.0.02 but I upgraded to 1.0.03 to fix an issue where the router constantly reboots when I stream Netflix or Hulu and now the router reboots with Netflix, Hulu AND the SSL VPN tunnel initiation.

When I set the MBP to use the 2.4 GHz mode I can stream music without causing the E4200 to reboot. The E4200 is running firmware 1.0.03.

View 4 Replies View Relatedtoday I got up and discovered that my WRT160Nv3 router has resetted to factory defaults itself, the name of the Wifi network was "linksys" and all configurations were the defaults...
That's normal? This is the first time it happens.
I just bought a Linksys E4200v2 router and updated the firmware to 2.0.26.124551. The DHCP server is turned on however, it won't issue any IP addresses. I have to set IP reservations for all of my devices in order for the router to give them an IP address. This includes my printer, xbox360 and 2 computers. I'm also having this problem with the wired and wireless lan.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a Cisco WRT120N Router and a Cisco Valet AM10 wireless adapter. Almost every time the computer reboots, I loose my network and I have to redo the AM10 setup. The AM10 is the only device that loses the connection, my lap top and printer do not lose the connection.
Problem 2: Everytime I upplug and replug the AM10 a window pops up saying I need to check the drive for errors but none
are found.
Problem 3: I downloaded the AM10 install program, Downloadable.Setup.AM10.1.2.10148.2. It does not work. If I try to run it Iget an error message that the setup canot be completed and to call in for support.
Problem 4: When I can get it working is shows that it is Wireless Connection 5. Why 5 and not 1? Where are the other 4?

My WRT54G2 v1 does not automatically connect to the internet on computer start-up. The computer will say "Connected, No Internet Access" In order to fix it I have to unplug the router and then plug it back in. This happens to any computer that tries to get online from a cold start-up. The router must always be unplugged, then plugged back in, then it will have internet access (and will generally maintain it throughout the session and even if the computer is restarted, i.e. warm boot). I have downloaded the latest firmware uprade.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI bought it without a a windows installation because i already had a copy of vista 64 cd which I installed when I got the computer. Then I realized vista couldnt handle the amount of ram my computer had or support some of the other new hardware, so i went online and purchased a copy on Windows 7 for 600dollars and digitally downloaded it from a non microsoft site, as it turned out after I installed it the cd validation key was not included in the purchase sadly so I was running it as trial version for 30 days.Anyhow, at some point (and it has been going on for awhile) my router reboots quite frequently when I am online playing games such as Civilization 5 , world of warcraft and CoD on this computer. Sometimes it can reboot up to 3-4 times an hour if I'm really unlucky! When I'm not playing games and just surfing the web it is rare the router restarts, and while I sleep I keep my computer online and it dont reboot at all.
So it is basically when I play online games this occurs the most. However! If I play games online on my laptop or playstation 3 the router -never- reboots, so it's obvious the problem is not the router itself since it works with my ps3 and laptop but not my stationary gaming computer
I continue to have significant performance and random reboots with DIR-825 router (hardware: Rev A1; Firmware: 1.13NA). My ISP has checked the lines to my cable modem. If I connect any of my laptops or PCs directly to the cable modem and work off the direct connect, all works fine with no problems for many days and even mutliple weeks. So, the router seems to be the bottleneck/issue.
I've tried multiple settings changes as listed in the forum here. My setup is fairly simple and detailed below.
Setup -> Internet:
-- Dynamic IP (DHCP)
-- I have disabled "Enable Advanced DNS Service"
-- "Use Unicasting" is enabled
-- I have primary and secondary DNS servers set

I have a DSL modem and Linksys WRT54G wireless router for several years and haven't had any problems. I decided to move the router and modem to a different room. Upon replugging everything in, I can't get an internet signal from my router. My modem seems to work fine-all lights are on and if I plug my laptop directly into the modem I have internet access. But, if I plug the router into the modem, I can't get internet signal both wired or wirelessly through the router. All of the lights on the router turn on-showing I should be getting internet signal [power light solid, WLAN light on, internet light on], but my computer won't open a website. I've done reboots on the modem and router. The router was working great prior to moving it. My DSL company says everything is fine on their end. I receive a Ping back from the router as well. What else should I check or do I need to do?
