Cannot Connect To The Same Network With Wired And Wireless Computers

Nov 2, 2012

I have a dell desktop running windows vista that connects to my wireless router with a cable. I have an HP laptop that is running windows 7 that is wireless. When I look at network computers on the dell I get an error message that says that the computer is not accessible. The same thing happens when I try to log onto the desktop from the laptop. When I try to run the network wizard from the desktop, I see see connect to the internet, connect to a wireless router or access point, setup a dialup connection and connect to a workplace.None of them make sense but I tried connect to a wireless router and got a message that said to set it up manually or set up a flash drive, neither of which makes sense. I tried set it up manually and all that happened is the router setup screen opened up.I tried the same thing on the laptop and the setup the network wizard opened a screen that said choose a wireless router or access point to configure, but nothing ever showed up on that screen.

Gateway Netbook Cannot Connect To Network - Wired Or Wireless

Aug 1, 2012

The netbook was working fine on wireless network; didnt use it for a couple of days - now I cannot conenct wired or wireless; cannot see the wired or wireless modem , only MSN dial up. But the wireless modem light is blinking steadily. Otherwise the netbook is working OK - it even seems to boot up quicker than it used to)(I would reinstall the OS but it didnt come with OS DVD or a DVD drive ; so I didnt create a backup when I bought it. I have since purchased a USB DVD drive; this is one of two identical netbooks I purchased on black Friday - other one works perfectly?

D-Link DI-524 - Computer Sees Wireless Network But It Won't Connect Even Wired

Jun 25, 2011

I'm desperately trying to set up my old D-Link DI-524 on my parent's Toshiba laptop...I'm visiting and going thru withdrawals! I've installed it, run the wizard etc but it doesn't work...not even wired. I've tried various cable configurations and I get nothing. Both cables are good and work just fine connected to the modem. I've reset it a few times, upgraded the firmware and still nothing...I'd think I'd at least get it to work hard wired. My laptop can see the network I set up even...but no data transmission. I'm not a wireless expert, but I need to become one fast!

XBox 360 - Wireless To Wired Router Connect Network Not Internet?

Dec 12, 2012

I'm having trouble connecting my 360 to the wireless router to gain Internet access.I use my phone's Wi-Fi to gain internet access with NO issues. My current setup: NetGear Wireless router is connected to my D-Link wired router, and I can access the internet no problem. (10 MBPS down, 5MBPS up)When I try to connect the 360 to the Netgear Wireless router, it connects to the Network, but Internet test it reads "DNS error - The router or modem may mot be automatically providing DNS settings. Try a manual DNS setting instead."(Next suggestion) "DNS Error - If you have a PC that can successfully browse the web, check it's network properties to find the DNS address it uses..."Now, I have XBMC running on my computer, and the 360 can access the network so it shows up under Video Apps so I can see a file list to stream movies. When I try to run a movie, it says I must download an update - so I can't watch the movies at all.I juso set it up so I can access the Network AND Internet.Again, Netgear wireless router (which 360 connects to) connected to D-Link wired router.

Basically instead of buying a wireless adapter for the xbox, i'd like to know if/ how i can use my linksys router instead.

Cisco AAA/Identity/Nac :: Advantages Of ACS 5.4 Over 5.3?

I've inherited a single instance of ACS Server, version 5.3, running in a VM.  I'd like to add one or two more for redundancy, but before doing so, am considering upgrading to 5.4

I see lots of docs explaining the features in 5.4, but it's been difficult to compare to 5.3.

Actiontec MI424WR / Advantages To Gigabit Ethernet?

Mar 30, 2011

I am moving into an apartment thereafter. I have an HTPC in use, a personal computer for gaming/processing, and my fiancee has an Apple Macbook Pro that she uses quite often. I have an HDHomeRun Dual (2 tuners) for streaming OTA/QSM cable over the network (the HDHomeRun plugs into the network, not a computer). I also have a TV and Blu-Ray player that have ethernet ports.

Currently I use Verizon Fios and their Actiontec MI424WR router, which to my knowledge has gigabet ethernet. When I move I will probably be saddled with Comcast Xfinity Internet, which will supply a cable modem if I want, but no router. The only router I currently own is a Zyxel NBG-419N, which has only 100/10 ethernet ports. My current computers all have gigabit ethernet. For the home theatre components and my HTPC, I plan to pick up a network switch with gigabit ethernet. So my questions are:

1. If I use the Zyxel and the Comcast cable modem, would I be throttling my network speed at the router? I would hate to choke my speed just because one component does not have gigabit ethernet.

2. If I were to upgrade to, say, an Asus RT-N56U, would that make a huge difference on network browsing and throughput speeds?

3. Finally, what kind of cable is needed to maximize discernible speed increase? Cat5, Cat5e, or Cat6?

Can't Connect To The Wired Internet On Another Network

Jul 24, 2012

I just brought my new PC build over to my grandmothers house and I can't connect to the internet on her connection. All I did was plug her Ethernet cable into my port on the back of my motherboard. I didn't touch any other cables or settings. It seemed to recognize there was a connection but said it was public and was trying to identify it. Then, I was unable to connect to the internet.

Can't Connect To Wired Network - Stuck On Identifying

Feb 19, 2012

It all happened pretty suddenly, from 1 day to the other, suddenly i was unable to connect to my home network. I started to troubleshoot, search forums etc. But no luck. I triedand look for the problem myself and found that thenetwork was enabled but it stayed on "identifying network". By clicking buttons from here and there on thecontrol panel i found something like a network recognition or something like that and a yellow little prompt appeared on the top of the explorer saying something like the network idetification was disabled, so i clicked and selected enable but it prompted again, so i just entered to the advanced network recognition center and noticed that on the public and private tabs netowrk recognition was disabled, so i clicked enable on both and saved changes, but the changes dont save, its like if i wasn't on a administrator account (but i had no error messages, it just wont enable).

Dell Inspiron 1300 - Network Manager Won't Connect Wired Direct To Cable Modem

Jul 17, 2011

I cannot connect my Dell Inspiron 1300 through the NetworkManager "wired" connection, when I try to go direct to the cable modem. It fails to connect. If I connect the cable modem to my (linksys WRT54GS) wireless router, and then connect my laptop to a wired port in the router, it connects in seconds, successfully, This has happened to me 2 other times, when I tried to connect my laptop to a client's cable modem, because my client did not have a wireless router available, in their home. My wireless works fine. This has me perplexed. I'm using Ubuntu 10.04 LTS and NetworkManager Applet 0.8, I've tried some things to see what is going on, such as "ifconfig" "dhclient" as well as modifying the "Auto eth0" parameters and adding my laptop's MAC address, etc.

Access Internet Using Wireless Network And Printer Using Separate Wired Network At Time?

Apr 4, 2012

I have 4 computers (3 laptops, 1 desktop) in a shared office. We get internet access using their wireless network. All works fine. However, I need to share a printer amongst all of the computers. The printer is LAN enabled and I would normally just put all the PCs on a hub, together with the printer and share it that way. BUT my question is can we access the internet using the wireless network and the printer using a separate wired network at the same time?

Creating A Secure Wired Network Alongside A Wireless Network?

Oct 10, 2011

I have been involved in the Networking of a museum with a set of "Show" computers which display video, and for this reason cannot have anti virus installed becuase of the performace hit, and also the risk of pop-ups on the videos. They do however need to be connected to the internet as some are interactive and allow people to send simple emails, and they all need to allow remote support when things go wrong. It seems the networking was not thought out very well initially, and there is a single wireless router which serves the staff and public on a secured wireless network, but also serves the "Show" machines via a wired connection from one of its ports, which then connects to a master switch which serves the show machines. Now the wired and wireless is on the same network, and everything shares the same IP subnet (192.168.1.xxx), and this is not a good situation in terms of the securuty of the show machines on the wired network. So I need to work out a way to totally separate the wireless network (which will be very prone to people opening viruses in their emails etc), from the wired network (which will be the show machines which wont be touched by anyone).

I want to achieve this in the simplest and easiest way, and have been reading about the possibility of setting up a second wired router behind the current wireless one, with a different subnet IP address, to which the "Show" machines could be connected. The WAN port on this second router would connect to a LAN port on the wireless router, and thus the show machines could get their internet, but separated from the dangerous wireless network.Does this sound like a sensible start? Will the fact that the wired router (and show machines) are on a completely different subnet to the wireless router (and wireless devices), mean that the wired network will be protected? Or do I need to do more? And is this likely to work?

Unable To Connect To Internet Wired / Wireless?

Aug 29, 2011

i have 2 laptops (1. Dell 2. IBM) and both of them worked wirelessly with BT until last month when I switched to talktalk. Dell s laptop now works wirelessly but the IBM isnt working either wired/wiressly. When I connect the IBM laptop to the modem through the cable my Dell laptop stops working too, looses the wireless configuration too and in order to make it work again I have to plug it back to the modem andafterwards going wirelessly. I spoke to talktalk support and they confirmed that the line works fine therefore there is a problem with the IBM laptop which also causes problems to the DellLaptop.I domt know from where to start to get the laptops working again fine at the same time.

Routers / Switches :: Wireless PCs (192.168.1.x) Can't Connect With Wired LAN

Jan 20, 2011

A server (DNS,DHCP & RRAS with NAT) connected with this router by ip 192.168.1.6 which has another subnet 192.168.10.x for LAN PCs. In this situation everything is fine like internet browsing. The only problem is wireless PCs (192.168.1.x) can't connect with wired LAN PCs (192.168.10.x). The router ip is 192.168.1.1. How can I configure to connect those two subnet's PCs?

Wired And Wireless Connect To Router But Not Internet

Sep 8, 2012

A week ago, my desktop (with Windows 7) stopped connecting to the internet over it's wireless connection. It would connect to the router and obtain an IP address, but couldn't connect to the internet. All other devices in my home can connect just fine. Through the course of trouble shooting I found out that I can't connect to the internet with my desktop using a wired connection either. Also, I'm using ATT, so the modem and router are 1 unit.

Here's what I have tried:

Reinstalling the drivers.Resetting the wireless router to factory settings.Changing the security settings on the router.Running netsh int ipv6 reset reset.log ;netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log; netsh winsock reset catalog and restarting TCP/IP v4 and v6 are set to get automatically Made sure MAC address wasn't being blocked on router. I tried disabling ipv6 I can ping myself (@ 127.0.0.1) and no packets are lost. I tried pinging my ip address from the router, and nothing got through. This was true using wired or wireless. I tried connecting to the routers configuration page (using its IP address) and I couldn't. Did a virus scan and nothing turned up.

Laptop Can't Connect To Internet Neither Wired Or Wireless

Jun 3, 2011

my laptop, as well as my moms laptop, were working perfectly fine on wedensday. Yesterday however, i was randomly getting kicked off the internet, and i came to realize that whenever both of our laptops were on, only one could connect to the internet. the other one couldn't find the DNS server or whatever.so, after some frustration windows finally told me (on my laptop) that two computers were sharing the same ip address on my network. made sense i guess. so i went to CMD, typed ipconfig /release on my laptop, but it said media was disconnected so it didn't work. i then went onto my moms laptop, typed the same thing in CMD, and it released it fine. but then her battery died so i plugged it in to renew her ip.

once her computer got enough of a charge to turn on i went to cmd and typed ipconfig /renew, but it wouldn't renew it, saying media was disconnected. so, now her laptop and my laptop will not connect to wireless.on my laptop, i transfered my documents to another HDD and did a fresh install of windows. but even since, my laptop will not connect to the internet. when i trouble shoot it it says something about no networking drivers are installed, but i can't even install drivers because i have no internet im on her laptop right now, it will connect via ethernet cable.

Unable To Connect To The Internet (wired And Wireless)?

My partner has got the wireless working perfectly on her laptop and I got wifi working on my phone with no problems, so I think it must be something specific with my computer.

I used a wireless connection in my old house, and I remember it took some time to get that working properly too, so obviously my computer doesn't like change!I'm now getting the IPv4/IPv6 connectivity messages and can't even get close to finding a network.
