D-Link DIR-825 :: Pinging Local Computers On Network Brings Back A Foreign Ip Address

May 23, 2012

when I ping another workstation on my local network I should get back it's local IP but instead I am getting an ip address that resolves to somewhere in Germany!  In fact if I ping any bogus name, I mean anything, it returns this same address 62.116.181.25.  If I shut down my cable modem then everything resolves correctly.  And yes I have DNS relay enabled because it seems to be the only way to get the workstations to resolve external sites correctly.

Cisco VPN :: Can't Bring The VPN Up By Pinging From ASA 7.2

Jan 5, 2012

I've attached my ASA's config. I can't bring the VPN up by pinging from the ASA but the VPN will come up when someone pings from behind the ISA server. So the problem seems to be routing/NAT on my ASA because my pings aren't being directed out the tunnel. The VPN in question has 64.106.x.x as the peer and AES 256/SHA for phase 1 and 2.

System And Network Time Do Not Match?

Feb 24, 2011

This is happening to me to multiple computers on my domain. When it happens i can only log in as a local user or if I unplug the network cable, log in and then re-connect the networkThe time on all these machines is correct within at least 1 minute but still it's throwing off this error. When reading about this problem I see many fixes that all relate to how to sych the time on the PC.

IP Address Conflict With Another System On Network

Oct 26, 2012

I've been getting a popup error message for about a week:"There is an ip address conflict with aother system on the network". This is only for 2 desktop PCs with wired ethernet connections. Wireless devices are fine with no error message. The wired LAN PCs basically lose all network capability. Reboot fixed it, but it returned every time it was rebooted.I have a Virgin Media Superhub with another router configured as an access point. To cut a long story short, after trying to reset everything, re-installing network adapters & swapping ports, I decided to set the Superhub to Modem Mode, and re-configure the access point router to act as a standard wireless router. In other words renewing the whole network's LAN IP addresses.I now don't lose network capability, but the error message is still appearing on both wired LAN PCs. I use the Fing app on my android phone which lists IP addresses for all devices on the network, wired and wifi, and no 2 addresses are the same, which suggests that DNS is doing its job.

Why can't the computers ping each other, but their default gateways can? I've specifically allowed ICMP any any on all the affected interfaces.

Right now Im in the beginning process to work with locally own retailer setup a network infrastructure for IP camera and in the future VoIP, about 45 50 total IP devices when the project is complete.Nothing has been purchased yet but I have some candidates and a network layout planned, thought this is the first time Ie setup network of this type in the real world.Right now I looking at Netgear and LG/Ericsson (previously SMC, Nortel) switchesHavent gotten to the router yet and VoIP will come later. For either brand there would be one 1000MB 24 port switch and three 100MB switches, all of them 24 port and all will have PoE on all ports.[CODE]

VPN Connection Dies When Not Constantly Pinging

Jul 2, 2011

I will be moving away from my home computer but will still want access to it so I am trying to set up a VPN between it (home computer is windows 7) and my fedora 15 machine. They are currently on the same 192.168.1.0/24 network so I'm wondering if that may be the cause for my troubles.

Here's my setup:

Fedora 15 (192.168.1.3) is running the PPTP server with pptpd and gives 192.168.1.66 to any vpn client that connects to it./etc/pptpd.conf only has "localip 192.168.1.3" and "remoteip 192.168.1.66" options in it /etc/ppp/options.pptpd has "refuse-pap, refuse-chap, refuse-mschap, require-mschap-v2, require-mppe-128, proxyarp, lock, nobsdcomp, novj, novjccomp, nologfd, debug, dump" options Windows 7 (192.168.1.6, 192.168.1.66) is the client and I have it set to use connect to the public IP address of my router, PPTP, require encryption, only allow mschap-v2, don't use gateway in ipv4 properties. Both machines are connected to the same Belkin router (192.168.1.254) and I can ping locally to and from each computer no problem. The problem is my VPN connection is very inconsistent. I will open a ftp connection to 192.168.1.66 from 192.168.1.3, login, start uploading a file, get about 10MB uploaded, and then the VPN connection will die and the upload will fail. But, when I have "ping 192.168.1.66" running while uploading, the connection stays alive.

Pinging Router Fails 5% Of The Time?

Sep 20, 2011

Lately I've noticed that my internet connection has been less than stellar. I will be playing an online game or surfing the web, and every so often I'll freeze up or things just won't run smoothly. My network consists of the following...All of my computers and devices connect to a Cisco 16 port gigabit switchThe switch then connects to a Peplink 20 Dual WAN routerThe router connects to a cable modem as well as a DSL modemThe other day I was trying to diagnose the problem, as well as update the firmware of the router. While I was on the main "status" page, I noticed an error saying that I couldn't connect to the router. It quickly cleared and everything was working fine. This of course made me think that my issues have to do with my connection to the router, and not with the internet service itself. I then tried ping -t to two other computers on the network, as well as the router. After 5 minutes of pinging, the connections to the two computers had zero fails, while the router connection failed about 5% of the time. I ran the same check from the other computers on the network, with similar results. So, I know that the issue lies with the router (I think), but that's where my brainstorm ends.

Pinging Non-existent Devices On Subnet?

I'm currently taking a networking course and was having some difficulty answering the following questions and could use a little clarification.Question: When pinging a non-existent device on your subnet, why doesn't the source node issue a ICMP echo request. My thoughts on this was because there was not a receiving node therefore any ICMP packets were not issued.Question 2: when pinging another non-existent device but not on your subnet, why doesn't the source node issue a ICMP echo request.

Home Network :: Clear Operating System Firewall

Sep 16, 2012

I am redoing my homes networking and I am looking for a firewall. I heard that you can install clear os on a server and use it as a firewall and a dhcp server. So i was going to install it on a rack in my server cabinet. does the server need to have a wan port and a lan port? Or how does the server get connected? So, so far its the cable modem into the clear os firewall and then into my switch. Is is possible to use the clear os server as the dhcp server for the whole house? From the switch I am going to connect the rest of my servers, and the rest of the house. I was going to connect two wireless routers for my house. Would that work with the clear os server?
