Cisco WAN :: 2821 - Compact Flash / IOS Upgrade?
Sep 25, 2012I need to upgrade the compact flash memory on a 2821 router from 64 to 128, upgrade the ios, and re-script the router. So I'm wondering what is the correct sequence? With the router powered on, do i eject the existing flash, and install the new one or do I power down the router? Once the memory has been increased, then i can upload the new ios?

Jun 5, 2012I am attempting to install a 512 MB Cisco COmpact Flash for an ASA 5520. We have inserted the compact flash but when we do a DIR, it does not show. even as an unformatted device.
What do we need to do to make this a usable CF? Do I just need to reload the ASA or do I need to format the CF. It has been inserted into the slot in the back of the ASA 5520 and we have ensured that is had been seated properly.

Sep 13, 2011Is there a way to load a spare compact flash with a running-config, ASA IOS, & ASDM software via card reader? I need to load another flash card with all of the settings necessary for normal operation. This "spare" card will replace the flash that is currently in use. The reason for the replacement is capacity and because of changes made to the running-config. The "in-use" card is 256MB, the "spare" one is 512MB. Also, the new card will have a few changes made to the running-config, so it will, in essence, be a reload.
I have a card reader for the compact flash cards. If there is a way to load up this new card using the card reader, without monkeying with the firewall, I would prefer that. Like I said in the previous paragraph, this new flash card will replace the other one, once it's ready.
Hardware: ASA 5510
CF: 256MB (wanting to upgrade to the new 512MB card)
ASA IOS: 8.4

Dec 7, 2011I want to upgrade IOS on 1811 from 12.4(11)T3 to 12.4(15)T16.
As a standard CF size in the 1811 is 32 M, so I have to free some space.
Here the strange things starts.
dir issued on the router shows thet ther is no image on the flash!

sh ver shows that
uptime is 19 weeks, 2 days, 9 hours, 22 minutes
System returned to ROM by power-on

The other strange thing is that some space is allocated for something!
(flash size) 3194060 - 12771328 (free) = 19169280 (space allocated to ???)
Just now router is running IOS c181x-advipservicesk9-mz.124-11.T3.bin The size of this IOS is 19 155 816, that is approximately equal to the size that allocated to something invisible.
fsck flash and format flash doesn't work. Bug Toolkit doesn't show any bugs similar to my issue.

Now I want to upgrade the IOS to version 15 to get a CME version 8.6 but I faced a problem that the flash of the 2821 is 64MB and the IOS version 15 required flash 128MB. I tried to replace this flash with another 128MB installed on Cisco 2811 router but when I installed the 128MB flash on the 2821 CME the 2821 didn't boot from it.

Aug 28, 2012I have a 2600 router i intend to use as an access server. I doesn't have an IOS so i downloaded via tftp. I should see the file at Dir flash:, but all i get are these error

And if i tried to download again the file, its failing because it seems that there aren't any space available in my flash. Here is the mem info.

But from internal network can access to Vlan Finance (Full access). I want to configure using Reflexive ACL, but from Datasheet 4500 doesn't support Reflexive ACL. Intervlan routing is in 4500. Is there any ACL configuration to support my requirement without using Reflexive ACL?

The ATA flash card was formated successfully, however I cannot copy the system image to it so that it can boot after a power loss.

Mar 14, 2012I was rather surprised today to discover that the latest IOS available for the 2960-C switches is 12.2 (55). Other similar switches, like the 2960S range are using IOS 12.2 (58) or 15.0.1-SE2. This doesn't sound like the end of the world at first, but 12.2 (55) does not include VTP 3, which is a major problem if you are using the compact switch within a large modern deployment.
Am I correct about the version?Is there any way to deploy VTP 3 to this switch?Is Cisco planning to issue modern IOS releases for this switch?

Aug 21, 2011If Anonymous Disk Access is selected, read-only files cannot be deleted; nor can the file attributes be changed. This is true even if one attempts to connect as an administrator. Unchecking Anonymous Disk Access and logging on as an administrator fixed this problem for me, but I'd think there are 2 issues.
1. Anonymous Disk Access should allow deletion of ANY files. I would expect this to be a "wide open" setting.
2. If Anonymous Disk Access is selected, a valid login should take precedence.

Jul 10, 2011I am facing this particular issue while providing Cisco unified Wireless solution to the customer. We are having CAPWAP 1252 APs controlled by WLC.
Scenario: 50 persons sitting in a hall with closely packed chairs using wireless simultaneously. Wireless access provided by patch antenna at a height of 11m from the user. As one AP can server 25 users, 2 APs are placed with antenna directions facing the compact users. Each users gets very good signal from these two APs.
Whether there will be serious interference and client association issues in this scenario? once one AP associates 25 clients, whether other 25 clients associate completely to other AP?

Dec 15, 2011I seem to be having an issue where certain very packets are being dropped/lost by my office router. The reproducible situation is, when I attempt a DNS zone transfer from my linux bind DNS server (A.A.A.A) to any server on my network behind NAT (Y.Y.Y.Y) the first packet (Seq 1) of the response is lost. The client making the query asks for first packet (Seq 1) to be resent, and the DNS server attempts to resend it repeatedly, but those are lost too.
