Cisco Infrastructure :: 831 - Cannot Backup Config To Local TFTP Server
May 24, 2012
I have a Cisco 831 router (c831-k9o3y6-mz.124-5c.bin) that cannot backup the config to a local tftp server. I have seen this behavior on a few different Cisco devices over the years and have never found a solution. The connection is made to the tftp server (in this case tftpd but similar behavior on any tftp server) and a blank file is created on the target machine file system, but the data is never transferred.
The router shows %Error opening tftp://192.168.0.2/router-confg (Timed out) [Failed]
The tftpd log shows 5 repeated attempts at the file write.
Connection received from 192.168.0.1 on port 53570 [25/05 11:56:40.922]
Write request for file <router-confg>. Mode octet [25/05 11:56:40.922]

This is also stopping me upgrading the image on the router as I cannot transfer in the other direction either.
all this inside the router or the switch. From the Linux box just running a simple command such as:
tftp 172.16.0.3 -c get startup-config newbackup.conf
where 172.16.0.3 is the IP address of the switch and newbackup.conf is the name of the config file stored on the Linux machine. So, how do I do that with an ASA box? how to backup ASA from inside it.
I have a DLSW connectivity between 2800 series router and 7206 router. AS 400 is directly connected to 2800 series router and other server is connected directly to 7206 router. now i want to add one more server which will work as backup for the server connected to 7206 . What would be the connectivity/configuration to make it working in case primary server connected to 7206 is down or connection would automatically needs to shift on its backup server.
I have a 2801 running c2801-spservicesk9-mz.124-3g.bin According to the Cisco IOS MIB locator the image supports OLD-CISCO-SYSTEM-MIB I have tried .1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.1.55 etc to set server IP address and the filename string but without any luck.e.g.
Reason: (noSuchName) There is no such variable name in this MIB. Failed object: iso.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.1.55.a.b.c.d (where a.b.c.d is the server IP)
I have also tried the method similar to that for Cat 3550 switches where you create a table of entries to define the transfer paramaters then activate the transfer (I think the CISCO-CONFIG-COPY-MIB)
Clean up at the end - destroy .14 with the value of 6.
example output : - -- earlier output omitted -- Error in packet. Reason: (noSuchName) There is no such variable name in this MIB. Failed object: iso.3.6.1.4.1.9.9.96.1.1.1.1.4.111 Error in packet.

We are currently running Cisco prime 4.1 and want to make sure there is a backup of the configurations from our switches and routers. The VLANconfig is not collected according to the devicestatus dashboard. i am aware there were a known issue with LMS running on a virtual server and vlan not being able to be collected, is this issue resolved? i have tried the various workarounds with TAC support and it hasnt worked. We have the running and startup config collected for our devices when looking at the device status dashboard. does this mean if a switch crashes we can restore the config to a new switch immediately?
i saw there is a version 4.2. maybe this version resolves the issue with LMS on a virutal server? i cannot find the download to upgrade to 4.2 in the support section though.
In my WCS v7.0.172.0, I recently configured the Controller Configuration Backup task. Backups seem to be working fine for the past few days. How do I tell it how far back I want to keep logs, or how many log files to keep before deleting the older ones? Seems like it will just keep on saving the config backups with a date stamp until the TFTP server runs out of disk space.
I'm replacing an older (& failing) RVS4000 v1 with a new V2. I need to minimize downtime. Will a config backup from the old v1 restore properly to a new v2 (all have newest firmware)? There are a lot of tweaks including several VPNs and to do it all manually is not desirable.
I need to backup my ASA 5505 configuration and restore it to default, then I'll configure manually the new config, but if something doesn't work I want to restore the backup made before.
I tried the "copy run tftp" command, and it always answers the same: Result of the command: "copy run tftp" [code] I read everywhere its supossed to prompt asking me tftp server address and file name.
I have a small doubt with Nexus 7k,5K,2k & 1K.We want to backup the running config to my desktop through tftp. When i tried to backup from Nexus switches showing like below Nexus 7K. [code]
It's showing two choices which one I have to follow "copy running-config startup-config" or "copy running-config startup-config Vdc-all". [code]
It's showing two choices which one I have to follow "copy running-config startup-config" or "copy running-config startup-config fabric"
It's showing three choices which one I have to follow "copy running-config startup-config" or "copy running-config startup-config fabric" or "copy running-config startup-config vdc-all". [code]
How can we restore ACS config from an existing backup file, in an ACS cluster deployment? is it through CLI? with"restore"or"acs restore" command? and should I restore only the ACS config or both ACS and ADE-OS config?
have some problems with setting up jobs for the backup running config on my switches. Have RW and RO contact with everyone and can change the config in editor, but do not get config.txt
I need some info on how to open an RV042 config backup (.exp) file. I recently had an RV042 that got very wet and it is now dead, and I do not have another on hand. BUT I do have the config Backup that includes the user MAC authentication list that I really need. Is there a way to get this information other than loading into another RV042.
I have Cisco 2800 series router. When I am trying to write memory getting error message " Error opening flash:config-backup-1 (No more root directory entries available)" When there is simultaneous access to a router's NVRAM, we might encounter these errors. In order to clear the line the other user(s) is (are) connected on and free the NVRAM, issue the clear line command. But still getting the same error message.
We have a LMS 4.2 installed. And I see the tftp port is open on it. however, every time, i tried to "copy running tftp" to the LMS from a switch, it says the Trying to connect to tftp server Connection to Server Established.TFTP put operation failed:Access violation
i seem not be able to find where to configure the tftp server.
I am trying to implement a small VoIP LAN (you can see the lan in attachments)for a personal project. I am using:
- 2 x XP (on which i installed Cisco IP Communicator 7.0.3.0) - 1 x Ubuntu (running GNS3 with a c3600 Router)
The problem is that the phone which is not in the same LAN with the tftp server cannot register.
1) Can a phone register to a tftp server from another LAN ? 2) If the answer for 1) is yes, what am i doing wrong (you can see the details in the attachments)? I mention that the ping works well anywhere in the LAN.
I have a questions on an Ip phone when getting the firmware from the TFTP server (e.g. CME) after bootup,- After the registration with CME, the IP phone will getting an auto config file which is the Default.xml file. - The CME will acts a a TFTP server which contains all the IP phone's firmware for different models like 7970 and 7640 in different directories.- The CME have configured with the directory path for all the IP phone when the IP phone come to TFTP and acquired the firmware.Let say I have a phone registered is 7970 and what is the mechanism that governs that my 7970 is not downloading the wrong firmware from the TFTP? Let say it might wrongly downloaded the 7640 firmware? Who take care of this? The phone itself? or the CME will tell the IP phone to take only the 7970 firmware via the Default.xml file?
Yesterday my internet (Via Cable) was working fine on my desktop, today it keeps telling me "Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration. My W-Lan works fine, I've replaced the cable with another cable, restarted everything five times over, and even tried plugging the computer directly into a wall.
When I connected my laptop via cable (tried several) It gave me the same error...?
How do i go about setting up a TFTP server from laptop to Cisco ws-C3750 48P Switch, I need to pull the image off the switch and place it on an other switch that has a corrupt image, The switch which is corrupted is the same as above Cisco ws-C3750 48P.
So I've decided to utilize 802.1x on a switch module on a 2901, reasons being for mobility for a laptop and network security.
However, the 802.1x authentication occurs over the VPN Tunnel (over the Internet). What our concern is, what happens if the Internet or Tunnel goes down? I know that 802.1x does not authenticate against the IOS local DB, so what would be another option in case this scenario happened?
There will only be one device authenticating (maybe 2) and they are 2 HP Windows 7 laptops.
I am trying to convert two Aironet 1141n access points to autonomous stand-alone units. I have connected the console cable and I can see the unit giving information in the console window, but I cannot type any commands. When I try to get the unit to upload the c1140-k9w7-tar.default file by holding the mode button in for 20-30 seconds, it shows it is examining the file, and then states that the connection to the tftp server has timed out. My windows firewall is off, the interface is configured as 10.0.0.2 255.255.255.0 and the tftp server is showing that.
I have been trying to get a PIX 501 firewall reset and have been having the hardest time. Im a student and this is my first experience with a firewall. I have been going through the steps here URL,I cant seem to connect to the tftp server, I have several nic's on my computer and tried them both and even plugged the firewall to the router and tried to use the gateway to connect but it doesn't seem to want to even ping for me.
I have been looking at grading the IOS version on our 6509-E however there is not enough space on disk:0 to upgrade to the version I need to install. The question I would like to ask is - is it possible to boot the IOS from a TFTP server? If this is possible what configuration do I need on the 6509 to enable this. How does the 6509 know about the TFTP server as an IOS is not installed and therefore it will not have a network configuration
I wonder if dir825 with ddwrt firmware are able to set up additional tftp server? I try to serve dir825 both as tftp server and dhcp server to allow remote client to have pxe booting from it. ( the booting image file would be located in external HD attatched to dir825's usb port )
