Cisco Infrastructure :: Configuring Multicast Environment Using 2 Ports On 3560

Feb 28, 2006

Ihave a 3560 w/multicast support and I'm trying to configure a simple environment. I have 2 ports configured, one for the multicast server and the other for the client. Each are on their own subnet, so I have an ip route between the two. My run config on both ports is:

ip multicast-routing distributed
interface fastethernet 0/3 & 0/4
ip pim version 2
ip pim sparse-dense-mode

I'm using vlc server /client configured to use 224.0.0.1 on my isolated network. I can see the mulitcast traffic going into the port, and I the client is sending reports, but I think the 3560 is dropping the packets, since I don't see them coming in the client port. Need to configure a simple multicast environment using 2 ports on a Cisco 3560.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 / 3750 - Enterprise LAN Environment / Could Not SSH

Feb 1, 2012

I am working in an enterprise LAN environment. We have about 100 switches, mostly 3560 and 3750's. This is a typical Cisco network, yet it's flat. No routing on the access layers. The core switch does do the routing. We use an third party vendor network monitoring tool, and we use Secure CRT to remote into devices.

Here's the problem. There was a device we stumbled into that had not been put into our monitoring software. It has the same IOS as our other devices. All I can say is that it's the same version and type. Each device has a management v LAN. And each device has it's own management IP. An ACL exists to prevent unauthorized SSH access into the devices, yet allows the management v LAN scope to get in.

So, here's the problem...we can't SSH into our problem mystery device, let's call it Switch X. Switch X has an IP of 10.10.100.150. Now, I can be logged into it's up link device, let's call it switch B. Switch B has an IP of 10.10.100.130. The ACL allows all devices from 10.10.100.0/24 to SSH. Our PC's at our desk are also in the same management V LAN. SSH version 2 is on the configs, and the domain names are the same on these two devices.

So, let's be clear. From my desktop, I can connect to any device on my network EXCEPT switch X. When I try to connect using SSH, port 22...it just sits there until it times out. I can do the same thing to any other switch, and connect just fine. We are using TACACS+ and RADIUS as well, and they are up and running just fine. The configs on Switch X like I said are the same for switch B, except it's IP address of course. While logged into switch B, I can do a CDP neighbor and see switch X connected via trunk link. Both sides are running dot1q encapsulation, and both are in trunk mode. I can ping switch X from switch B. When I try to SSH from B to X..I get timeout with no connection.

So, I hiked over to the building where switch X is located. I consoled into the switch. I confirmed that the ACL is the same as the ACL for switch B. It is set up to allow the management v lan inbound on the VTY 0 - 15. Yes, it's access-class (name) in on both vty 0 4 and 5 15. It also is set up for transport ssh in and transport ssh out.

I rechecked the domain name on Switch X; it was correct. I also did a crypto key and regenerated the crypto key. SSH v2 came up. Again, while in Switch X, I can do a CDP neighbor and see switch B. But I cannot SSH from switch X to Switch B, or any other devices that I tried. Now, we did find a config error with VTP; the VTP domain name was different. But VTP has nothing to do with SSH. Just to placate my co-workers, I went ahead and renamed the VTP domain name (it's running transparent mode). After I regenerated the crypto key, I saved everything of course. I then reloaded the switch. When all came back up, I still could not SSH

This is a 3560 switch, and it is trunk to a 3750.

Cisco Infrastructure :: Multicast 224.0.1 Traffic Increased Much

Mar 24, 2013

I have started to notice an increase in traffic from all my LAN workstations to the multicast address of 224.0.1.20, all with the same destination port (79). IANA shows this address as reserved for "experimental testing". Are there any typical applications or protocols that use this multicast address? My first thought was malware running on the hosts but it's a little tricky to prove.

Cisco Firewall :: Configuring ACLs 3560 In A Lab

Dec 27, 2011

In my lab setup i configured Cisco 3560 switch.

VLAN 20 and VLAN 30 i configured.
VLAN 20 interface IP : 192.168.20.1/24
VLAN 30 interface IP : 192.168.30.1/24.
Inter-vlan communication is happening fine.

For testing for purpose i configured extended ACLs. Here is my requirement: I want to stop communication from VLAN 30 to VLAN 20 but not vice-versa.

Here i configured like this:

access-list 111 deny ip 192.168.20.0 0.0.0.255 192.168.30.0 0.0.0.255
access-list 111 permit ip any any
applied ACL in VLAN 30 interface 'in' direction.
ip access-group 111 in

In this scenario, communication is stopping in both directions. If i ping from one of the IP VLAN 20 to one of the ip of VLAN 30, i was gettng Requested time out. And if i ping from one of the IP VLAN 20 to VLAN 30 interface IP, i was able get pinging.

From VLAN 30 to VLAN 20, i was getting destination host unreachable from VLAN 30 ip( Its fine as its my requirement). So, solution needed to communicate from VLAN 20 to VLAN 30.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Connecting 2x 3560 And Configuring LACP?

Jan 29, 2013

We have 2x WS-C3560X-48 with the 10Gb SFP C3KX-NM-10G module.I want to use the 10Gb SFP (with a redundant 1Gb link) between each of the switches.Below is the configuration what I think I should use. Is this correct?

SWITCH1
int TE1/1
switchport trunk encapsulation dot1q
switchport mode trunk
channel-group 1 mode active

[code]....

We also want to utilise Link Agrrigation for the servers that attach to the switch. Would this config be correct?

port-channel load-balance src-ip
int range x
switchport mode access
switchport access vlan 1 (They are all on the default vlan)
spanning-tree portfast
channel-group x mode active

(Then I would configure the LACP config on the server) Is there anything I am missing?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 CG Port Goes Down When Configuring Trunking

Jan 31, 2012

I have a 3560 8 port switch.  Int gi0/9 is trunked to another switch downstream.  When I try to configure int gi0/10 to trunk to a switch upstream the interface on the switch goes down and I have to either reboot the switch or plug directly into the switch and telnet into it to turn off trunking on the interface.  When I configure trunking on the interface on the upstream switch that connects to this interface the same happens on that switch.  The upstream switch is a 3750 with 12 sfp ports.  Several interfaces are trunking to other switches from this switch.  Spanning tree is not configured on the 3750 at all , and is not configured on either gi0/10 or gi0/9 on the 3560.  I was consoled into the 3560 during a reboot after the interface went down, a message came up that said something like "Spanning Tree returning gigabit ethernet 10 to constant state"  Why would I get this message if spanning tree is not enabled on the gig ports on either end of the trunk? There is no loop to require spanning tree to shut down an interface.  I have several other 3560's configured as I would like to configure this switch and they are trunking without issue.

Cisco WAN :: Cat 3560-E / 2960-G - Configuring Two VLANs On Same Switch Port

Mar 29, 2012

As per my attached diagram, I have three switches (Cat 3560-E and couple of Cat 2960-G)

Each PC is on different vlan
PC -1 on vlan 100
PC-2 on vlan 200

I need to connect PC-1 and PC-2 to the server. Server has no fixed vlan and can be changed.

Restrictions:

1) can’t change PCs vlan assignment.
2) can’t add 2nd NIC in the server.

I’ve tried private vlan but it requires separate physical ports for host and/or community vlan and somehow it did not work. I could be wrong Trunking using dot1q enabled on port 2 on all switches and connection works fine (server to PC-1 or server to PC-2) by enabling switchport access vlan 100 or switchport access vlan 200. However I need port 5 on switch-1 to respond to vlan 100 and 200.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 - Configuring Qos / Traffic To Go Into High Priority Queue

Nov 19, 2012

qos map cos-dscp 0 8 16 26 32 46 48 56
mls qos srr-queue output cos-map queue 1 threshold 3 5
mls qos srr-queue output cos-map queue 2 threshold 1 4 6 7
mls qos srr-queue output cos-map queue 2 threshold 2 3(code)

since cos 5 is mapped to dscp 46 then this traffic would go into the priority queue. is this correct ?

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3560 Ports Have Stopped Powering Phones

These switches have an embedded PoE module and would previously give power to all IP phones on all its ports. Now all of a sudden over the past few months 6 of these ports have stopped powering phones. The phones are the same ie. 7911 and they take less than 15.4 W. We believe that the PoE module has started malfunctioning and has stopped giving power to all the ports. The port 'grants' power and then removes it. Below is a link showing all the messaged we receive on the terminal session. It is NOT a hardware fault with the PoE: [code]
