Jun 24, 2012

I have an issue with two APs (3502i) which is associated to controller wism2. Total number of APs are connected to this controller is 422 and once I added two new APs (3502i) to this controller I am unable to see these APs coming up. System Information Firmware Version:V2.0.2.7CPU:STAR 9202 Router is operated 2y. No problems till now.There is sometimes abnormal lost of Internet connection, detected by LAN devices. I found it 3 days ago. This dysfunction is occasional 2-5 per day in occasional time.Nothing was changed/upgraded/updated in my WAN cable router or LAN or in the Cisco router. Nothing was changed on computers site (OS,LAN cards, drivers, ...). Just the problem is discovered on the router side.LAN operatation is correct, no problems was founded. Just the devices on LAN lose the internet connection (Win7, Lnx, Mac).

This is status of my WAN - does not matter if the internet connection was lost or not. It is still same:

STATUS-WAN/Gateway
Interface: UP
IP Address is assigned (checked by provider - correct)
Default Gateway and DNSs are assigned too(checked by provider- correct)

What was checked by me:

1.  A. I disconnected the cable router from Cable modem

B. I connected the Cable router directly to laptop. Internet connection was right.

2. I called to my Cable provider to check my connection:

- with direct laptop connection to Cable router - Right

- with Cisco router connected to Cable router - Right, but no Internet connection on LAN side behind the Cisco router

3. Standard procedure was tested:

Cisco :: 3502I Not Getting Ip Address

Jan 27, 2013

I just deployed 2 brand new 3502I access points.  Ap's are connected to a PoE module on a 4507.  Ap's are powering up.  The 4507 is configured to hand out ip addresses to the ap's.  When I run 'sh cdp nei det', I can see the ap's but they do not have an ip address assignment.  Another weird thing is in the output of the command, each ap has two entries.  One entry shows gigabit0 and the other gigabit0.1.  I have never seen this before.  I dont know if this in some way is why the ap's are not getting an ip address.  I have 40 other 3502I from 2 yrs ago and no problem.  The IOS of the new ap's is 15.2.

Wifi Repeater Setup And Operation?

Aug 16, 2012

I have a wireless access point/modem at one end of my property (which I cannot relocate). To improve wireless connectivity on the other end of the property I am thinking of placing a wifi repeater (probably a cheap one like http:[URL]... mid-point in the property. However I don't quite understand how these things work. I assume repeaters, extenders, boosters are all the same thing?

Does the repeater actually create a new seperate wifi network, so I will effectively have two wifi networks/SSIDs? or will my wireless devices still see only one wifi network? If it creates two wifi networks what happens when I move through the property with say a laptop, will the laptop need to disconnect from one and reconnect to the other hence interrupting the connection? (which is not ideal).

Also does the repeater take up an IP from my main wireless access point/modem? My setup uses a block of static IPs and hence I would prefer not to waste an IP on the repeater if possible.Homeplugs is something else I'm looking into but that seems to be a more expensive option. With Homeplugs I would disable the wireless on the main access point/modem. Then use the Homeplug to put a wireless access point in the centre of my property hence giving fuller coverage.I've also tried higher DBi antennas (& directional ones) but they have not been effective.

Cisco Routers :: RV180 Router Mode Operation

May 9, 2013

wether the Cisco RV180 router model can be configured with a public IP address on the LAN interface? I'm planning to use it in the following setup:

Internet ------------- WAN port (public IP) RV180 LAN port(public IP)-------------- WAN(public IP) RV016 LAN (private IP)

Disabling gateway operational mode and switching to router should disable NAT and allow this setup but need to confirm if it works? I'm concerned if the web management interface actually allows a public IP to be set on the LAN side.

Cisco Wireless :: 3502i LED Not Remaining Lit?

Oct 17, 2012

I am in the process of deploying 3502i APs. This site has 2 - 5508 WLCs both running Software version 7.0.220.0 and 2 - 4402 WLCs both running the same version of software as the 5508s. All of the APs that I have installed so far have joined the controller and I can associate to them and access the network. When the APs first are connected to the switch they go through the 'normal' boot up with the LED changing colors - white, red, green, blue (not necessarily in that order). Once the AP has completed its boot sequence the LED goes out and remains NOT lit.

This is happening to most but not all of the APs. This is the first time I have deployed 3502s - previous experience is with 1142s and 1242s and the LED does not do this with them.

I can, through the CLI, turn the LED on but it is then ALWAYS blue, even if a device is NOT associated to it.

I do not want to leave them off because the account will believe they have a 'dead' AP and with them always blue they cannot properly troubleshoot using the LED.

Cisco :: WLC 5508 / 3502i AP Properties

Apr 25, 2013

Devices Used;
WLC = 5508
AP - 3502I
Windows Clients = Windows 7

We are using WP2/AES for encryption and 802.1x for key management for our WLAN.  The question I have is, when I look at one of the client's properties through the WLC 5508,  then look at the  "AP properties", its says that its using; Authentication = Open System, and WEP state = wep enabled.  Why would the AP properties have open system and wep enabled when the WLAN is setup for WP2/AES???  There is also a "Security Information" Section just below the "AP properties" section and this lists the correct settings.  Are the "AP Properties" irrelevant in this case?

Cisco Wireless :: 1142 APs LEDs Not Working In Normal Operation

Feb 11, 2013

just installed 6 new APs to a client remote site off a 5508 controller. 5508 is running 7.0.116 total of 78 installed APs, mostly 1142's with a dozen or so1242s. All going perfectly until I was about to leave site and noticed two of the APs had no LEDs lit. Checked in the controller, as I had renamed them so knew they were on the system, and they are both there. Connected to each of them and was successful and everything seemed ok - no blue LED though. Rebooted them and the LEDs work as expected during the boot process but as soon as they have entered normal operation the LEDs go dark.  urls....but no reports of it with anything other than 3502's.Change process is galacial and heavily monitored so dont want to invoke it if it wont address the concern.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3750 Ever Changing IP SLA / RTR Tracking Operation

Nov 7, 2011

I just tested IP SLA with tracking on a 3750 12.2(46)SE.  And the configuration was simple enough and tested fine for redundant static routing: [code] Then I tried to do the same on a 3560 switch running 12.2(55)SE3.  ip sla went in fine.  But when I went to put in the track I was presented with "list boolean and" (for example) after the track and the identifier.I tossed in the ip sla "10" as the object.  But shopw track shows the boolean AND as down.  I don't get why the track feature is different in two switches so close in IOS version.  How do I get the 3560 to track the ip sla as my 3750 does?

Nov 6, 2012

We are trying to install the latest version of Nexus 1000v to ESXi5.1 and the installer application is much better than the previos one, but we are having problems with implemetation, because deploying of OVA file times out.

First attempt: Nexus-1 was successfully deployed on ESXi-1, but Nexus-2 which should be deployed on ESXi-2 returned an error: "Deploy OVF template":"Operation timed out." Second attempt: Deploying of Nexus-1 returned the same error Third attempt: The same as the first attempt.

It looks like that there is a time limit which is used for deploying OVA file and since file needs to be uploaded to ESXi it takes too long, so the installation fails. Is it possible to extend this time?

Cisco Wireless :: Stand Alone 3502I Without Controller?

May 10, 2012

I have a customer with several older Aironet 1121G WAP's.  In one area of the plant the noise levels from several large motors is preventing reliable connection to the WAP, even though it is located in the same conference room as the users.  I am suggesting upgrading the 1121G to the 3502I to take advantage of the Clean Air technology.  This raises two questions:

1) Will a single 3502I be able to effectively handle the RF noise, or does it require a network of WAPs to function properly?

2) Does the 3502I require the CT2504 controller for the Clean Air to work, or will it function in a stand alone mode?

Cisco Wireless :: 3502i Cannot Join Controller?

Oct 15, 2012

When we were installing some new APs, were plugged in to ports that were not configured on the WLC management VLAN.

This is the illustration

WLC management VLAN is VLAN 80 Management VLAN of infrastructure (Switches routers) is VLAN 10

The APs were plugged in to VLAN 10 and they were not able to associate themselves with the controllers.

Through research, those APs were getting a wrong IP address,

I did the Mode button, pressed for 30 secs, but this did not fix the problem, i thought it was going to clean the flash and bring the AP back to factory default I do not believe this happened.

We also added the cisco-capwap-controller.localdomain  to our DNS servers, and then I rebotted the APs and still no luck.

What fixed the issue is we had to go to the DHCP server, release the IP addresses and we found those based on the macs of the APs. What is we do not have the mac addresses?

Now that I have the DNS entry created, if I plug in an AP on the wrong VLAN port will I be able to see it?

Cisco Wireless :: 3502i Cannot Join 5508

Sep 25, 2012

I have a 3502i(AP_1) that will not join a 5508 WLC(WLC_1)(code 7.2.103). The 3502i(AP_1) will join 4402 WLC(WLC_2)(Code 7.0.230). I have another 3502i(AP_2) that will join the WLC_1 & WLC_2. I am using capwap discover through DNS and hard coding the primiary WLC to AP_1 & AP_2. When I debug capwap events and errors, I see the static capwap messages and replies. Both of the WLC are on the same subnet. I have defauted the AP_1 and it joins the CISCO-CAPWAP-CONTROLLER as expected. When I change the Primiary WLC to WLC_1 it goes back to the CISCO-CAPWAP-CONTROLLER. If i change the primiary WLC to WLC_2 it joins. If I change the primiary back to WLC_1 it joins WLC_2 even though it is not a secondary. I know the previous joined WLC are stored in NVRAM, so that might be why it is doing that. I can join other ap to WLC_1 just not this one.
