Cisco Switching/Routing :: WS-C6513 - Display GBIC Module Info From Within IOS?
Apr 24, 2012
I have a Cisco WS-C6513 switch, with a couple of GBIC module cards in it. I am trying to display the part number (or model number) of the modules which are inserted into this module card. How to do that? I don't want to schedule down-time to pull the module(s) - just to read the label! :-)
This shows me info for the "module card": sh module 9 But this doesn't work: sh module 9/6
Our customer is having C6513 running with 12.2(18)SXF15a . One of the module (ACE20-MOD-K9) got rebooted with following error: Feb 22 10:41:41.155 GMT: %OIR-SP-3-PWRCYCLE: Card in module 6, is being power-cycled off (Reset - Module Reloaded During Download)Feb 22 10:41:41.183 GMT: %C6KPWR-SP-4-DISABLED: power to module in slot 6 set off (Reset - Module Reloaded During Download)Feb 22 10:41:53.686 GMT: %OIR-SP-3-PWRCYCLE: Card in module 6, is being power-cycled off (Module not responding to Keep Alive polling)Feb 22 10:41:53.686 GMT: %C6KPWR-SP-4-DISABLED: power to module in slot 6 set off (Module not responding to Keep Alive polling)
i have a cisco switch CISCO Catalyst 2960S 48 GigE, 4 x SFP LAN Base WS-C2960S-48TS-L for this i need a 1GB GBIC Connector. need right GBIC connector module and ather details
I am trying to connect a SF200-48 switch via Mini-GBIC MGBLX1 fibre module to a Cisco 3750 switch with a GLC-SX-MM fibre module installed both running a 1000 Mbps. When connected together they do not enable. Are there compatibility restrictions or is it that the Mini-GBIC modules cannot be used to uplink to a LAN?
I am on a call right now troubleshooting some latency issue. The CPU usage on the sup card is low. Don't see any drops or input errors. I am aware that the switch and its modules have capability limits. Is there command I can run which will tell me if any module is overloaded or if the fabric/backplane is over utilized? My chassis is WS-C6513 and sup card is WS-SUP720-3B.
I have an interesting problem. I have a 6509 that I'm trying to swap the GBIC on. The switch is already using a GLC-SX-MM GBIC and it is up/up and passing traffic, but we are getting some errors and suspect it may be faulty.
I want to replace the GBIC with one of the identical model - a GLC-SX-MM. It was brand new, never been opened. When the new GBIC is plugged in the link light on the switch goes completely off (not amber) and the port goes into a down/down (not connect) state. There are no messages in the logs at all. It's like it doesn't even see it. If you plug the old GBIC back in then the link comes back up. I tried a different port with the same results.Thinking that the new GBIC may be faulty (even though it was brand new) I tried a second GLX-SX-MM, also new. That one does the same thing.
At that point I thought there might be a problem with that switch, so I tried the GBICs on the other 6509 in that pair. The other 6509 is running the same hardware and software. The GBICs will not work there either. If you move the old, suspected faulty GBIC from 6509-2 to 6509-1 then that it works.
The solution would seem to be that I have two faulty GBICs, but I'm having trouble persuading myself that I have two new ones, straight out of the package, that are both bad. Are there any other things to check on the switch? Here's the pertinent information:
switch#show ver Cisco IOS Software, s72033_rp Software (s72033_rp-ADVIPSERVICESK9_WAN-M), Version 12.2(33)SXI3, RELEASE SOFTWARE (fc2) <snip> cisco WS-C6509-E (R7000) processor (revision 1.3) with 458720K/65536K bytes of memory. I've inherited a network. It looks to have been setup as 10/100 originally, using Netgear FSM726S switches with fibre connecting the switches. The fibre to copper conversion is mainly achieved with 10/100 media convertors rather than GBICs - not sure why - though there are some GBICs in use. Some of the "key" switches have been upgraded to Cisco Catalyst 2960G switches, but nothing else has been touched, so most of the network still runs at 100MB.
I am trying to get a C2960-8tc-L linked to a sge2000p via the Gbic ports using GLC-SX_MM gbics but having no luck. Are these compatible and should I need to configure anything?
However no matter what I try, it never sees the GLC-SX gbics I have in the TwinGig converter.

Everything is in the title...When I plug a GBIC adapter on a port, my switch reload automatically..! Is it normal, because I did it during production and It disconnects some users.
Our 6500 was reboot by self with crash info and i found it was happened by CPU HOG. The log is below for CPU HOG and you can see many times from attached crash info file.
%SYS-SP-3-CPUHOG: Task is running for (16000)m secs, more than (2000)m secs (15/12),process = RPC pagp_switch_mp2sp. [code]....
I think this process made high CPU & memory issue and then there were internal communication fail.. isn't it? So i need to know what PRC pagp_switch_mp2sp is to prevent next issue.
Got a problem with my 1760 router. Bought it from ebay and booted it on today and got this error,It has 180224K/16384K bytes of memory and 2 paritions of 32768K flash.I erased both partitions and put a different version of the IOS on (still 12.4) and there is no difference, still get the errors. These aren't on any of my other 1760 routers so I assume they are linked to the problem.
We have a number of 4507s. Most are managed via VLAN 1 address. All have multiple VLANS for traffic control. When I do a show ARP or show IP ARP the command only shows VLAN 1 info. No entries for any of the other VLANS on the switch.
I have been given 2 x 3750 switches that were a stack, I need to keep the configs on both but how do I make them individual switches again and remove the stack info?
i have a cisco router (3900 series) and a add on module (4 x 1 Gig port module). For some reason i cant seem to port channel them and cant do routing (can set an ip address on those ports). I can do port channel and routing on on-board ports. Do i have to enable any commands to do this ?
we have 4 department Finance, Marketing, HR, contracts. All are in different subnet. We need to install a single DHCP server to provide IP for all subnets.
We have one Layer 3 switch Cisco WS-C6513-E; Windows server 2003 DHCP server.
Facing issue with 2960G switch , where its do not display "logging trap informational " in show running and show startup .where its showing all other levels from 0 to 5 and 7 after configuration and save commands. [code] after config getting saved , it do not shows in show runn or in show startup while for all other levels it do show the config lines .I tried the same on 12.55.SE release also but its same results . Is this a limitaion of this platform, is there any doc explaining the same for reference. [code]
Was wondering if anyone has ever hot ADDED, not swapped, an expansion module in a 5548up. Is a switch reboot required?I looked at the H/W install guide and it does not mention anything.
My C6506 USING ws-sup720-3B, i upgrade the IOS to the latest release of 12.2(33) SXJ1 IOS version. After upgrade and reload the machine got one module cannot be detect..WS-X6416-GE-MT, 16 port 1000mb MTRK ethernet module. The version of this are:
-HW 1.0 -FW 5.3 (1)1 -SW 8.5 (0.46) RFW
Question 1: Any tools available on cisco to check out the hardware/software compabiity feature?
Question 2: Any release note, compability matrix table etc resources.
Recently we ha a Nexus 7010 with a module frozen that was OIR (Online Remote and Insert) but do not work until reload the Nexus 7k.The command "show tech-support" has the following:
Can the encryption module (DES/ 3DES/AES/SSL VPN Encrytion/compression) for Cisco Router 3845 able to support the external connection from other high end router, for example cisco 7200? What is the maximum bandwidth, load and concurrent connection it can support?
why is not possible to put a WS-X4712-SFP+E - module into an R-E chassis? The module has the same connection to backplane as the WS-X4748-UPOE+E and this one works in a R-E chassis.I know the restriction of Cisco that the 4712 is only supported in 4503-E, 4506-E,4507+E and 4510+E, but why?Are there hardware-restrictions, is the backplane different?
I have a pair of 6509-E Switches running VS-720 Supervisors. We are planning to add Ace Module onto the 6509-E. Will IP Base Image suffice the requirement? Will Ace Module work with only IP Base Image?
confirm the C3KX-NM-10G module is hot-swappable.i have checked the cisco's website and it says " Although network modules are hot-swappable, we recommend installing a network module before powering the switch"
What steps i need to follow to install the module?
Using the new SUP-2T, need to clarify one query. If we are using the new SUP-2T in VSS mode, will the new ASA service module and NAM-3 are supported? From Cisco site, ASA module FAQ:
Q. Will the ASA Services Module support the Cisco Catalyst Virtual Switching System (VSS) at FCS?
A. Yes, depending on which supervisor you use. The ASA Services Module supports VSS either as a single firewall or as a failover pair of firewalls, when used with the Supervisor 720-10G (VS-S720-10G-3C and VS-S720-10G-3CXL). Transparent and multi- context modes also work with the VSS in this configuration. However, though the SUP 720-3B (WS-SUP720-3B and WS-SUP720-3BXL) is supported by the ASA Services Module, it is not capable of supporting the VSS. No reference to Supervisor-2T.
I have a client whom has a 4900M switch as their SAN switch. They are getting ready to upgrade their SAN to use 10G.I had quoted them a price for an X2 module, but I am unclear based on pictures I have seen of the part number
X2-10GB-SR
whether or not the X2 module plugs into the X2 slot on the switch, AND then also has to have a transceiver put in it to receive the SC ends of the Fiber jumper, or whether the SC ends of the fiber jumper plug into the X2 module directly.
