Cisco WAN :: Unable To Connect 887VA Router To ISP Via ADSL
Jul 7, 2011
I have been trying to connect a new Cisco 887VA Router to the Internet using ADSL via PPPoE and have been unsuccessful. The DSL line is active and functioning correctly since the current "old" router is connected and working without any problems (the "old" DLink router is connected to an Alcatel DSL Modem). AT&T provides the ADSL service to the office. When the Cisco Router is connected it tries to negotiate a connection via PPPoE on the WAN interface but utlimately fails. The IP for the WAN interface is dynamic.
Below is the current configuration of the router.

We have a remote site connected to ADSL line with a Cisco 887VA router attached. This has been working fine for the last couple of months. However, recently, the site have started to complain of performance issues (network slow, applications disconnecting, etc)Looking on the router, we can see evidence of packet loss/timeouts from a simple ping to the internet e.g. [code]
However, we have logged the fault with our service provider and they return all line tests as clear but what is particularly strange is that they also report “and the SNR Margins are well within threshold levels (Upstream 11.5 and Downstream 15.0)” which, unless I’m misunderstanding something, seems to be completely different from what the router itself is reporting. Is there a reason why the service provider’s stats for Noise Margin would appear to be so different from what the router is reporting?
Im new to Cisco equipment and weve just upgraded to a all singing 8000 series (887VA) to be precise.
i'm having difficultys in setting the router to connect to our BT ADSL2 business broadband, we have a static IP but on normal cheaper routers you just input a Chap username and password. and the router sorts the rest.
i've followed the tech support from cisco website inputted the configure commands to create the ATM0 and a Dialer0 but still having no joy.when you log into the gui it only shows you a enable PPPoE tick box. no signs of PPPoA?
The aDSL circuit is up and connected and I can reach the internet, however not all sites on the internet are reachable. This is occurring on two seperate 887VA’s and the circuit has been tested with a netgear router and no issues occur. The router has been tried on 5 different ADSL connections and the same problem occurs although more websites can be reached on a home broadband connection (ADSL2+ Annex A) as opposed to the problem being more severe on an ADSL2+ Annex M circuit. The problem seems to affect websites that are full of adverts more than sites that have single domain landing pages.
The sites that I cannot reach are pingable. This happens on multiple machines behind the router. The same config is used on an cisco 877-M router with no issues.

Have installed an 887VA on the end of a ADSL connection. The provider has specified EF 150 on the link. The router is configured using a Virtual Template.
If the Virtual Template has a service policy applied, we don't have connectivity to their main site - although the CD and PPP lights are lit. As soon as the service policy is removed, we have connectivity.
We've had three sites with the same problem. Two of the sites don't have QoS specified on the link but had the same problem if the service policy was applied.
Just got hold of my first 887va for my home, never configured a vdsl interface before and was just wondering if my setup looked good to someone whos done it a few times.
difference of CISCO887VA-K9 and CISCO887VA-SEC-K9.I thought it because of the Advanced Security and Advanced IP Licenses, but it isn't, I've got the -SEC- Version now just with the Advanced Security license. So I asking myself why I bought the more expensive CISCO887VA-SEC-K9 if I have to buy the additional Advanced IP Services licenses extra..
I'm trying to get an internet connection through my cisco 877va but I can't get access. I cant apply show cotroller vdsl 0 command and I can see DSL up, however, the dialer0 interface can't get access to internet. If I apply "show int dialer0 account" coomand, I get the next message: "No traffic sent or received on this interface". [code]

i have a problem with my adsl line connected on a HWIC-ADSL on router 2901 it was working good until yesterday the atm interface is down but the interface dialer is up .i connected this line into home adsl modem and the line is working good?
if I have made a simple mistake with my config. It has authenticated ok and been assinged an Internet IP address from the ISP but the clients can not connect ping any internet address nor can the router.
I'am a bit newbie at using Cisco products and here is my problem : I have set up a VPN tunnel between 2 Sites (A and B) a few month ago using 2 cisco SR520-ADSL-K9. All was working fine until power failures occured on the sites B (secondary site).
What happened was that none of the ethernet ports were working, excepting during booting, I was then able to ping computers linked to ports Fastethernet0, FastEthernet1, FastEthernet2 and FastEthernet3 but after a few seconds all ports were disabled but my DSL seemed to be working.
So I took back the router home to check it. I managed (I think) to make a factory reset using a serial terminal and following the procedure described here [URL]
Since I did the reset, I thought I would be able to re-use Cisco Configuration Assistant (3.1) to re-configure the router (I am very bad at using the command lines) but I am unable to connect to the router using the supposed default IP : 92.168.75.1 (I set my computer to use 192.168.75.50 IP adress with mask 255.255.255.0). But I can't connect to the router ... even if the Ethernet ports seem to work because green light is on when plugging my cable. connect to my router using CCA ?
For more information, here is what I get when I run "show startup-config" and "show running-config" in terminal console. I guess the objective is to make the startup-config beeing the running-config, but I have no idea on how to do that ..
show startup-config show running-config Router#show startup-config
Is it possible to use ADSL Wireless router (one with RJ11 WAN in) to connect to cable net? If not is there any which can allow me to connect to cable net in future if in case I change to cable net ISP.
I have one ADSL router that I have configured Port Forwarding on it, but the internet is very slow. I also have another 3G router and I want to use it for internet because it is much faster, but it cannot do Port Forwarding. How can I connect this two routers in one network such that ADSL router is for Port Forwarding only and 3G router is for internet only?
I hav bsnl broadband connection in my home.... I connected a tplink wired for browsing...I also have a belkin wireless router..... I connected those routers.... And only wired communication is possible
I am a beginner to ASA. I am trying to connect the ASA 5505 behind the netgear ADSL router which is getting dynamic IP address from the ISP. How to configure the ASA5505 outside interface for SSL VPN connectivity?
I have a Embarq 660 Series modem, but i wanted wifi. so i bought a belkin N300 wireless router this morning. And it won't connect to internet. I'm sure i've plug the cable in the right spot. And the EQ 660R ADSL router/modem is working. The belkin package came with a CD, and it's the setup program for the wireless router. but as it tried to form a connection, it said failed to connect to the modem. so does this means embarq 660 series isn't compatible with Belkin N300?
I am trying to connect a cat 6 cable from the Ext Nte to the adsl nexuslink 5631 router but i couldn't make the router works for the 2 line i only get one line led on i tried to change the wires colors on the rj11 (4 pins) and even so i cloud not get both led light goes on for tho line and this only for the cat 6 if i hook the old wire i dont know whats kind of wire i think its for inercom or mebe cat3 its works in the ext Bt only 2 wires connected and on the modem side 4 wires is o nthe rj11 plug i tried to do it the same way with cat6 i only get single line and i do it now with (white-orange=pin 1) (blue-white=pin 2) (white-blue=pin 3) (orange-white=pin 4 ) on the plug , on the bt side i tried to but white -blue with blue-white not working even the opposite.i just want to know how to wire from ext-Bt to router using rj11-4pin cua thats what my router use on bonding to lines, btw i have only 2 wire on the bt side because i got 2 line phones on a phone line in the bt?
I want to connect a Netgear FS605 directly to my ADSL router. However I find that this does not work unless I put my Netgear EN2005 Hub in between the Switch and the Router. The Hub is 10Mb/sec the switch 100Mb/s so I would like to eliminate the hub.
I bought my dad a Netgear N150 DGN1000 Wireless ADSL Router to replace his D-link router which kept dropping the wireless signal. I have established a wired connection and my ipad, iphone and his old laptop connect wirelessy to it without any problems but I just cannot work out why his laptop won't connect to the internet. It recognises the wireless signal and it says its connected and that the signal is excellent but when I try to go on the web or check emails it just won't work.I've tried deleting all his wireless networks and starting from scratch but don't know what else to tryHis PC is running windows Vista
I have a Cisco 1721 router with an ADSL wic. I have followed guides on the Cisco website so that I can connect the router to my home adsl connection. The router connects to my broadband provider and sucesfully obtains an IP address along with Dynamically assigned DNS servers. I am able to ping google.co.uk from the router but not from clients attached via DHCP.
I have noticed that if I ping the IP address of google.co.uk from a client it resolves but it will not resolve the name. This would lead me to believe that the problem lies with DNS resolution/forwarding but I do not know how to investigate further.
I have cisco router 887VA.Question is when i connect that WAN port ( eth0) with any switch or laptop/pc i do not see the port in up state. What can be the reason.I have done "no shutdown " on interface level and there is no configuration on interface except the IP address , but it show " up down "state even the port is connected to some device. ( Is the port is faulty or some other reason). As per my concept it should show up state when we connect to some device ( Like router / switch / laptop).
i have set up a layer 2 tunnel on my 887va router and the traffic transmits accross this to my second 887va. unfortunately, I do not seem able to get the layer 2 traffic from my host PC and down the tunnel.
I believe the problem to be the router settings for the fastethernet aqnd forwarding this data out of the dialer port.

I'm having some problems getting an ipsec tunnel established between a cisco 887VA router and a cisco srp527w router.I am working from a few text books and some example materials. I have worked through many combinations of what I have got and am still struggling a little bit.I look at debug results and it appears as though the policies do not match between the devices:
Jul 23 05:44:37.759: ISAKMP (0): received packet from XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX dport 500 sport 500 Global (R) MM_NO_STATE broute1# Jul 23 05:44:57.079: ISAKMP:(0):purging SA., sa=85247558, delme=85247558 broute1# Jul 23 05:45:17.031: ISAKMP (0): received packet from XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX dport 500 sport 500 Global (N) NEW SA
[code]....
Some specific questions:
1) on the SRP in the example's I have used (and I have a few SRP->SRP VPN's that work) I see you need to enter the preshared key, I'm not seeing in the examples I have used anything about the IKE preshared key on the IOS box. Any examples where you use the preshared key for IKE? I wonder if this is my primary issue as it states clearly in the log that there is no Preshared key :|
2) I have used a mish mash of names between the various sections as on the SRP the naming convention isnt the same; ie: which parts of the IPSEC negotiation come from the IKE policy section and which from the IPSEC policy section. Do the names really matter across different ends of the VPN?
3) I notice when I perform this command in the(config-crypto-map)#:
set peer FQDN
It is converted to:
set peer XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX
Is this expected? I want the device to look at the FQDN as this particular host is using DDNS and not use a static IP address.
