Instead of giving me an ISR, they're going to just give me an ethernet cable. Here's what I want to do with it.
This cable is going to be plugged into a 1900 series router. Connect to that will be a 48 port switch. Connected to that will be multiple servers to be used for web hosting, email, databases, etc. My ISP is providing me with 13 public addresses, however, it is not my own unique subnet.
Here comes the question; how would I set this up? The way I was originally thinking was to assign one IP to fa0/0, a second to fa0/1, and then assign the fa0/1 address as the default gateways for all the hosts on the inside. But then I realized that it won't let me have the same network on 2 ports.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have been trying to connect a new Cisco 887VA Router to the Internet using ADSL via PPPoE and have been unsuccessful. The DSL line is active and functioning correctly since the current "old" router is connected and working without any problems (the "old" DLink router is connected to an Alcatel DSL Modem). AT&T provides the ADSL service to the office. When the Cisco Router is connected it tries to negotiate a connection via PPPoE on the WAN interface but utlimately fails. The IP for the WAN interface is dynamic.

I'am a bit newbie at using Cisco products and here is my problem : I have set up a VPN tunnel between 2 Sites (A and B) a few month ago using 2 cisco SR520-ADSL-K9. All was working fine until power failures occured on the sites B (secondary site).
What happened was that none of the ethernet ports were working, excepting during booting, I was then able to ping computers linked to ports Fastethernet0, FastEthernet1, FastEthernet2 and FastEthernet3 but after a few seconds all ports were disabled but my DSL seemed to be working.
So I took back the router home to check it. I managed (I think) to make a factory reset using a serial terminal and following the procedure described here [URL]
Since I did the reset, I thought I would be able to re-use Cisco Configuration Assistant (3.1) to re-configure the router (I am very bad at using the command lines) but I am unable to connect to the router using the supposed default IP : 92.168.75.1 (I set my computer to use 192.168.75.50 IP adress with mask 255.255.255.0). But I can't connect to the router ... even if the Ethernet ports seem to work because green light is on when plugging my cable. connect to my router using CCA ?
For more information, here is what I get when I run "show startup-config" and "show running-config" in terminal console. I guess the objective is to make the startup-config beeing the running-config, but I have no idea on how to do that ..

View 8 Replies View RelatedI have a client whom uses a DSL 10 MG circuit as their backup circuit for Internet Connectivity in case of a failure. The circuit uses a DSL modem that is unreliable. I was recommending yesterday tot he client that perhaps we could place a Cisco router in place of the residential grade DSL modem /router currently in place.I wanted to place a 1900 ISR G2 in there, which would allow me to swap the DSL module out whenever I can talk the company into a Metro E connection. At that point I could swap the DSL module out and put an Ethernet module in to receive the Metro E. I was not able to find a solution last night using the Dynamic Configuration Tool. Seems DSL has been phased out.Is there any recommendation that could be made to accommodate this clients request for a Cisco router that will handle DSL?

I'm sure i've plug the cable in the right spot. And the EQ 660R ADSL router/modem is working. The belkin package came with a CD, and it's the setup program for the wireless router. but as it tried to form a connection, it said failed to connect to the modem. so does this means embarq 660 series isn't compatible with Belkin N300?

The VPN tunnel stays connected, users are unable to get to any outside websites, i.e. Yahoo, google. We unplug the router and it comes back fine; until the next time.

Inside the house the cable (RJ45) is plugged into the POE slot on one side of a small electrically powered black box, and from the other side, an ethernet cable (RJ45), connects to my PC. I want to share my internet connection with my HTC mobile and would prefer to make use of an existing Belkin 54g ADSL2 modem/wireless router (Belkin F5D7633) if I can. As this router's incoming port is specifically for ADSL my internet RJ45 cable can not plug into it. I have been advised that I can still utilise the router part of the Belkin though, using my PC as an access point, by plugging the ethernet cable from the PC side of the little black box into LAN 1 on the router, then joining the PC to LAN 2 of the router with another ethernet cable.I did not alter the configuration of the Belkin at all (having reset factory defaults beforehand), mainly because although I could access the internet from my PC and my mobile, I could not access the IP address of the router, presumably because the properties of the local area connection on my PC remained unchanged with the IP address (172.168.1.149), Subnet Mask (255.255.255.0), Default Gateway (172.168.1.1) and 3 DNS addresses (172.168.1.1) (10.30.0.1) (8.8.8.8) as they were before hooking up the Belkin. The IP address the mobile received through WIFI on connecting to the Belkin was 172.168.1.148
I was not unduly concerned about not being able to access the configuration of the router as everything was working as I had hoped it would and even when I powered off my PC I still had internet access on my mobile. On rebooting the PC, however, I found that the router changed the DNS addresses on the PC to 2 only, both identical (192.168.2.1) and the IP on the mobile was allocated 192.168.2.2 Although I could still access the internet on my PC, I no longer had access from my mobile although the WIFI connection to the Belkin showed as being 'excellent'. When I did a 'repair' of my internet connection, hoping to revert to a fully operative state, the PC configuration changed again as follows: IP address becomes that of the router (192.168.2.1), Subnet Mask (255.255.255.0), Default Gateway (192.168.2.1), 2 DNS addresses (192.168.2.1) and the IP address allocated to my mobile remains (192.168.2.2) This configuration means I have no internet access from either PC or phone, but CAN access the router configuration. I restored a usable operating state by unplugging the power from the router, transposing the cables in the LAN ports on the router (swapped cable from LAN1 to LAN2 and vice versa), turned off WIFI on mobile and waited a minute or two. When I powered the router back up and switched on mobile WIFI again, everything was restored to the original working state and I have, once again, access to internet on both PC and mobile. It is very frustrating, however, to keep performing this ritual and I wonder if any of you more technically minded, know a way to work around this, perhaps by manually changing the configuration of PC or router?
My customer is looking at using routers in DMVPN remote locations as DNS servers. He would like to be able to estimate how much memory the DNS cache will consume before going into production. I know you can get cache information when it's running, but he wants to plan ahead.I couldn't find any reports in Cisco or on the web of DNS caching causing memory issues, so I don't think he has much to worry about, but any rule of thumb as to how much memory each cache entry consumes would be useful. Or is there a protection mechanism to limit cache memory size in IOS ? The routers will be 877s and/or 1900-series.

When both are powered up, the wireless router sometimes doesn't get internet access because the modem automatically logs itself in. I have to plug the modem cable to my laptop, manually disconnect the modem, and plug the modem cable back to the router to fix it.

Problem tough is VLAN 20. This is the voice vlan. As u can see in the config below, this has been configured using VRRP and VRF for failover purposes. I did more of these configurations, and they all worked fine, just not with this particular router!
As u will notice i deleted all the not needed to know information or i X'ed it!

And what would be a different if i create new "sslvpn" list..Also when I'll be creating user for VPN remote access.. that user will also exist in local database and have access to router via SSH?Because the research I've done it doesn't seem you can group users in different "aaa groups" e.g. user admin belongs under "admin" aaa group which can do ssh to router, users for VPN can only do remote VPN access and not SSH and login into router.i saw ASA has some attribute for users called remote-user

Have been battling a router connection to new ATT t1 connection. Router was configured and sent from sister company to this new location. We have had ATT tech test circuit and it tests good, had cat5 cable tested from ATT to router, it tests good. I continue to get serial up/ line protocol down status though and cant communicate to it from wan.

We have the phone line connected to an extension at the other end (where the Church is) >80m away. Any way of running a second concurrent router on the extension so I can set up an office with a VOIP number, pC's printers etc there too? We use Devolo ethernet over mains and wireless for the main building, but the church itself is on a completely seperate mains power supply so I can't use that. I could run 100m Cat 5 and locate a switch on that, but any way of achieving something similar over the phone cable which is already in place.
