Cisco :: WLC5500 - Add Third DHCP Server To WLAN Interface?

Aug 2, 2012

I'm running a system that requires a third (and potentially fourth) DHCP server to be setup on each network in my network.  The first two devices are Windows DHCP servers serving IPs from different address ranges for failover. The third DHCP is just a listener to receive OS information and device names to be logged in a database.

Currently this works like a charm for my wired clients as I can add in the third and fourth ip helper-address on each vlan and the information is received by the listeners.  However, I cannot find anywhere in my WLC5500 to setup these extra two DHCP helper addresses.

The wireless vlan on my layer 3 switch has all the ip helper-addresses, but this doesn't seem to work, and the devices just use the DHCP servers set on the interface in the WLC.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: Lose Lot Of Bandwidth Over Trunk Port (vs Access Port) 3750g

Feb 18, 2013

I have a 3750g connected to a "core" switch stack of 7 other 3750g's via 2 GigE ports in a trunk.  This is currently in a switchport mode access port- channel so only the default vlan data is sent over. Now we have a need due to physical location of these switches, to allow vlan20 (DMZ) from this 3750g to the switch stack.  I will configure a few ports on the switch stack for vlan20 and they need to be able to talk to the stand alone 3750g.To do this I will change the port channel on both endpoints to

-switchport trunk ecapsulation dot1q

-switchport mode dynamic desirable

also making the appropriate change on the interfaces belonging to this trunk. My question is, now that its a trunk port that carries multiple VLANs, how much is the bandwidth reduced on that 2gbps link?I have a very active VLAN (10) on the stand alone switch, but on the core I'm not going to be assigning VLAN 10 to any ports.  So does traffic from VLAN10 even come across the trunk (wasting bandwidth) if no ports on the core side are assigned to it?  I really just need vlan 1 and 20 (for now).

Now I do notice that when you access the router setup through a web interface, it uses port 80.  I have forwarded port 80 to the ip address of the device, put in a reservation in DHCP with MAC address, etc. etc. and still nothing.  Heck, I have even turned that specific device IP into a DMZ, and it STILL will not work. For the record, I had an e2000 set up the exact same way and it worked just fine and I was able to access port 80.

Cisco :: VLAN Access Across A Routed Port?

Apr 20, 2012

I have an old Nortel network with a bunch of servers attached. Connected to it is the new Cisco core, by way of a routed port. My task is to migrate servers over to the Cisco side of the network, with minimal downtime, and have full network connectivity, retain IP addresses/remain on the same subnet, and retire the Nortels. The Nortels are running VRRP, so I can fail the gateway over by becoming part of that group and later dropping the Nortels, but I can't seem to get a host on the Cisco side to participate in the original subnet. The routed port kills VLAN traffic, so I tried bridging the VLAN with the routed port, to no avail.

Cisco Switches :: SG-200-26 Access Port Configuration

Oct 31, 2012

I'm having troubles setting up a separate VLAN for wireless on a SG-200-26. My first question is why did Cisco not make the VLAN setup like they have all their other business class switches? Anyways, the Access and General modes on these SG class switches are throwing me for a loop.

Right now I just have one port (g10) on the SG-200 switch that needs to be in VLAN 6, which is our wireless VLAN. All other ports are in their default VLAN, which is 1.

Here's what I've done...

Configured port G1 (trunk to another switch) as the trunk port and Port G10 (attached to WAP) as a general port. All other ports stayed in their default configuration. This is what it looks like now...

Port     Mode     PVID     Operational VLANs
g1       Trunk     1            1U, 6T
g2       Trunk     1            1U

[Code].....

I'm pretty sure port G1 is configured correctly, but I have no idea about what port g10 should look like. Common sense tells me it should be an Access port and assign it to VLAN 6, but apparently you cannot tag the traffic within an Access port on SG switches, which makes it useless because how will other switches recognize what VLAN the packets are in? So the next logical mode would be General mode, which I put in VLAN 6. I switched that port from being 6U (untagged) to 6T (tagged), but neither seemed to work.

VLANs on SG switches, how port g10 should be configured for VLAN 6 traffic.
