View 1 Replies View RelatedWe have couple of Cisco Aironet 3500 Series access points with the following P/N: "AIR-CAP3501E-A-K9", we have discovered that we need a wireless LAN controller to connect those new access points!, however, we do not have any wireless controller in our LAN.
We even tried to CLI through the console port but we could not set any static IP on it!, after reading on Cisco site we discover that this type of AP is called "Lightweight Access Point" LAP which handles all the management tasks to the controller!
So what shall we do! is it impossible to operate them without the controller?
When I check the AP join statistics I see the following: Reason For Last Unsuccessful Attempt RADIUS authorization is pending for the AP, I don't run a radius server and don't know how to get around this so that the device can join.

How do I initiate the discovery process again to make this AP to join? Should I convert it back to autonomous AP and then LWAPP process again? I can ping the AP from the controller and the AP is in the same VLAN with controller.

View 2 Replies View RelatedCan I connect various Aironet 1242 to Wireless controller 2500?
View 4 Replies View RelatedI've recently purchased a 2504 Wireless controller, and I have 10 2600 APs to deploy. I think I've set up the wireless controller OK - there doesn't seem to be much that needs to be done! But I just can't seem to register an AP onto the system.
Just to briefly outline what I have done, I have connected to the Wireless Controller via terminal emulator and run through the setup, then I have connected OK to the web interface, and I am able to view and amend the controller's configuration. So I have setup a WLAN and thats about it.
Next up I have powered on one of my 2600 APs, and I am able to view it working via terminal emulator again. But I am seeing it continually running the same routine to connect to a controller, and all the time it just fails. Below is what I am seeing.
One thing that I am unsure about is that I am unable to connect to the AP config pages via web browser, using the IP 192.168.0.97 (although it does ping okay). Is that odd?
And the main question - why doesn't the AP connect to the wireless controller? Do the APs need to be authroized on the controller first? If I check the controller's web interface, under Monitor - Statistics - AP Join, I can see the AP listed with Status "Not Joined" but I don't know what I need to do to make it join!

I have a question regarding to the maximmum number of active SSID's on a WLC 5500 with 3500i, it's my understanding that the 3500i can support 16 active SSID's is it the same when connected to the WLC? Also, if possible would the WLC shutdown un-used Radios or maybe after hours?

I've got 10 AP running just fine but the Aironet 600 shows operational status as "UP" (normal is "REG") and "Admin status", "AP Mode" and "AP Sub Mode" are all grayed out.
I installed the newest firmware on the WLC (ver 7.2.110.0) and it has upgraded the Aironet 600 as well.
I've read to through the installation manuals and from everything I can see I should be able to configure the Aironet 600 as soon as it contact WLC

I am in the process of installing an Aironet 1140 standalone AP. I have not worked with these AP's before. I will be connecting it to one of the PoE ports on the existing ASA 5505. My goal is to have 2 SSID's, one for internal network and one for guest internet only, no access to internal LAN. I want to have the internal wifi clients and the guest clients on seperate IP networks. The internal clients obtain DHCP from the existing server and use the ASA DHCP server for the guest clients. And of course, I would like the ability to manage the AP from the internal network. I am providing copies of my current configs for both the ASA and Aironet.

We have been presented with the usual suspects in cloud-based (Aerohive, Meracki, etc) and with Cisco (5500) and Aruba on the other side. We are a multi-campus organization with approx. 200 APs.Any hard reasons why go with a controller-based vs. cloud-based solution? If we must keep the conversation limited to Cisco, why go Meracki over Cisco's WLC solutions or vise versa?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI am looking to configure a wired and wireless guest network. I have industrial barcode scanners that connect to one SSID and then there is the business network on the office SSID (no vlan seperation for these devices just different SSIDs). There is not really a need to seperate the business network from the scanners in any case. However, there are needs for a guest network and this needs to be seperated. At the bare minumum I would like to have the wireless guest network. Here is what I have: 2125 Wireless LAN controller managing 18 LAPs (1 indoor and 17 outdoors)Cisco Cat 2950 switches (2 x 24 port and soon to be replaced with 2 x 48 port 2960's with 802.1x capability) Sonicwall TZ210 firewallOne existing wired and trunked vlan for PLC infrastructure. One ESXi hosting Windows server guests (soon to be 2 with vMotion) The reason for the wired guest access network is tp prevent anyone from plugging into the wall jack in the office with thier home laptops or anyone else from being on the same subnet as our domain machines. Granted they would be unathenticaed but there would be no layer 2 seperation and that is what I think would be best.
How would I go about doing this on the wireless controller without an anchor controller just using my existing hardware? I would like to have the Guest SSID only availible in the front office. Is it possible to offer a guest network while still servicing the business network SSID on the same access point? Then might I be able to have the guest network be treated as it should at the controller? However this might present another issue altogether as the guest traffic will be over the same wire as the business SSID until it hits the controller for management.
