recently bought a new Linksys EA3500 that is connected to my SB5120 cable modem. For two weeks it's been running smoothly but when my cable modem is in need of a power cycle.I power cycle both the router and modem but my connection is lost. it's after countless hours of messing with the two I'll get the connection back but I'm afraid it'll lose connection again, that and I fear I may have enabled bad options.

All computers that are wired to the switch that is connected to it lose their internet as well as any wireless devices. I have to manually power-cycle the router to get internet back.
View 9 Replies View RelatedI had lost power to my apartment and when everything came back on everything was working as normal...until about an hour later when my internet connection was sporadic at best. I called the ISP and they confirmed that the modem is fine. My other computers can connect to it via ethernet cable and wifi so it doesn't appear to be the router.
When I try to ping anything it seems to time out randomly.. (ran "ping Yahoo! -t1" and let it go for a while..times out every 10 requests or so).
I swapped out the ethernet cable but the LEDs on the NIC are Orange(Amber) for both cables. The wifi on the computer works fine. I reinstalled the driver for the NIC.

I used the CD to set up my new EA3500 with my Wild Blue Satellite internet modem.An IPhone or IPad can connect and work like a charm, remaining rock solid at all times. Windows 7 on the other hand, will work and then lose connection to the internet. The PC appears to remain connected to the EA3500, but the connection between the EA3500 and modem appear to be lost. I can click on the bar Icon at the bottom and it shows everything to be fine. I click on disconnect and then wait a few seconds and click on connect again and it works for a few minutes before having to do it again. When I look at the router properties the CD set it up for DHCP.
View 2 Replies View RelatedI have access controls setup on my DIR-825 which work fine until there is a power outage and my router comes back up.I am using Automatic Time Configuration and have the NTP server set to ntp1 [URL]When the router comes back up I checked to make sure the NTP server option is still enabled, and it is, however the current time is totally wrong.To fix this I had to go to the pull-down, select 'ntp1.dlink.com' and then save the settings. After this the time is correct again.This is as bad as not having the Automatic Time Configuration option at all, since I can't guarantee that the power won't go out. I do not have a UPS hooked up to back up the router, nor do I see why I should need one if the Automatic Time Configuration actually worked.know if there is a way of making the Automatic Time Configuration reliable so the time on my router is automatically corrected when the power comes back up?

You have to actually go and recycle the power by physically pressing the button.Plus, to setup Port Forwarding you have to reboot the modem.This is a major problem because it means you have to be on the premises to change things like the port forwarding. You setup it up, but have to reboot for it to take effect.

1 x AIR-WLC-2106-K9 (IOS = 6.0.199.4)
4 x AIR-LAP1131G-E-K9 (IOS = 12.4(21a)JHB1)
All configued ok with 2 SSID's associated to 2 VLANS all operates as expected.However every few 2 to 12 hours the WLC crashes, locks up.Unabale to contact via telnet or browser, will not respond to ping.The LAPs remain up but the WLANS go off air etcOnly a physical restart of the WLC will bring it back.
I'm having a little issue with some Cisco Aironet1242ag WAP's. I receive a call at least twice a month stating that some of the WAP's are not giving out internet connection. What I always do is go to my patch panel and disconnect those WAP's not working and connect them back again so they can power cycle. These WAP's are connected to a Cisco3750g. Once the WAP's boot up, the users can connect to the WAP and connect to the internet.
I don't know if these WAP's are filling up with some information that causes the access points to not connect to the WAN.
I've setted the unit in BRIDGE MODE, and attached on it 3 LAN devices, 1 PC Desktop, 1 NAS WDBE and 1 HP printer ... OK all config process was right and all my units talk togheter via AP Netgear DNG2000, and so i can use for instance the printer with my laptop too connected in WI-FI N. Now usually, In the night I turn off all my devices (DAP included), and when in the morning I need only the printer used by my laptop, obviously I turn on ROUTER - BRIDGE - PRINTER - LAPTOP but NOT the DESKTOP ... and so the DAP can't reconnect automatically to the router (both the lights AP/BRIDGE are on and fixed) ... I turn on the PC and the BRIDGE reconnect to the world .... BUT I DON'T WANT turn on everytime the desktop !
1) all gears has fixed IPs
2) DHCP server deactivated on the AP main router (DNG2000)
3) no WPS used, only WPA2-PSK (AES) personal keys on all gears
once that DAP-1522 is connected to the router .... all work fine (also when I turn off the DESKTOP).so the workaround is never turn-off the DAP ? I can't believe ... and who will save the energy planet
Cisco 2800, 12.4(23b) router has two VPN tunnels to other Cisco devices.
Authentication uses certificates from a PKI CA server. Under normal circumstances all works fine, both crypto sessions up.
After a power cycle (having first saved configs) however, the crypto sessions are stuck in DOWN-NEGOTIATING.
The certificate on the router still looks valid.
The only way to get the sessions back up is to renew the certificate, which seems strange as the existing one appeared to be still valid.
We have some 1242 LAPs in a two 5508 controller setup working fine. All LAP are configured to obtain address from DHCP. After first join we usually change some configs like HOSTNAME, AP GROUP, PRIMARY AND SECONDARY WLC. After a software restart or a complete power off/power on the LAPs joins the primary controller and all configuration still there. We now add a 1142 LAP and is does not retain the configuration after a power off/power on cycle, but after a software restart there is no problem. The only way to retain the config is setting the AP with a static IP address.
We use WLC 7.0.116 and we see no errors in the LAP console.
I've just bought a pair of WAP121 for testing and validation. I've set it up properly (user/password, IP, management vlan, NTP, SNMP, 802.1x, etc). So far, so good, everything worked as expected. I've downloaded the configuration to my PC, and also saved it to startup-config. I've powered off the unit, went for a coffee, and powered it back. All my settings were lost.
Tried to restore settings from the file downloaded to my PC, but no luck. After reboot, it was factory clean, no trace from settings in the backup file. I've set it up again by hand, power cycled it, and the **** thing reloaded to default settings.
Faulty unit, I thought, so I opened the other one I have, and repeated the whole thing, but same results. Test were made using the power adapter supplied but also tried with a catalyst 2960 with PoE.
When our DSL modem drops its connection, even momentarily, the RV220W requires a power cycle before the computers on the LAN can browse again. When I connect to the router, the WAN Information displays the word Connecting, rather than Connected.
We have a DSL modem connected to the router, the router connected to an ethernet switch, and our small business pc's connected to the switch.

Earlier today I attempted to change the setting on my Westell 6100 modem such that it would simply bridge the connection to my Linksys WRT54GS router, basically involving setting the router to bridge only and turning DHCP off. Now I no longer get an internet connection through my router when previously the connection had worked perfectly fine before. I following the steps of cloning the MAC address to the router and have done the proper resetting steps (computer, them router, then modem) but I simply can't get an internet connection through my router. The process to set up simple bridging from the modem what supposed to end up with the internet light no longer turning on but the light turned back on following one of the resets.
Currently, I can connect to the internet through the modem just fine but I get nothing when I include the router. I'm not sure if there are some other settings I'm supposed to be changing as I can't seem to find anything past what I've already done when researching online. At this point I would just be happy reverting the settings I've changed but I don't know how to access the modem now that DHCP is off.Basically, I'd prefer to be able to get the router working with these new settings but if that proves too difficult (as I've heard it can be when trying to get Westell modems to work with Linksys routers) I'd like to learn how to access the modem and change the settings back to what they were (preferably in as simple terms as possible as I don't particularly understand what a lot of these settings/configurations do).(And a bit of an aside, but I had attempted to do this modem bridging to "fix" perceived internet speed problems. I've been averaging around 300Kbps download rates ever since I've had this internet connection from Verizon when the supposed download rates should be between 1MB and 1.3MB. Doing this modem bridging had been reported to fix some modem/router conflicts and improved connection speeds for some.)
Immediately after a power outage, my internet connection predictably drops after a set period of time or usage. It is either after about 30 min or 5-15 mins of watching Netflix. I have a modem hooked up to a wireless router and use the network on my iPhone, laptop and Roku. Since the problem, I have dropped to just having my laptop connected but this has not worked. The wireless network will disappear after the 5 - 20 mins, the light on the modem and router will show no internet (all other lights are normal). Internet connection will be reestablished if I either unplug both the modem and the router (not just one or the other) OR if I unplug the ethernet line from the modem to the router and plug it directly into my laptop (the internet light on the modem will go from "off" to "on"). Despite internet connection working from transferring from the router to the laptop if I connect it back to the router, the internet lights goes off again (resolves upon unplugging and plugging modem and router back in). The internet has not yet dropped when it is physically plugged into my laptop.
I have tried the following:
-Powercycling (temp fix until it crashes again)
-Plugging into a different outlet (I cannot connect it to a different phone line, only have 1 with DSL. Also, I do not have phone service or cable, just internet via DSL)
-Resetting modem
-Resetting 2 different routers
-Calling ISP, their test of the modem was inconclusive
Again, my wifi does not see my network whenever the internet is dropped or the ethernet cord is unplugged from the modem. The outlets I have it plugged into has some type of electrical issue, two electrical devices have shorted out in the room they are in. I do not think this issue is electrical, everything seems to have constant power (unless the power outage shorted out something in the modem). Below are some details of my modem and router. I will provide any additional info requested. I will gladly buy a new modem but I want to see if it can be fixed first.

I have a double Nat problem with my modem acting as a router while it is connected to my router. This is a problem for me because I like to game online and a double Nat makes this difficult. I know the process of setting my modem in bridge mode but I have a few questions before I do so.
1. If I bridge my modem will this cause me to lose connection, if so then how do I get myself back online?
2. While bridging the modem does my router have to be set to any type of special configuration, if so then what do I do?
My router is a Linksys EA2700 and my modem is a Sagemcom 4300.
Cable modem connected directly to a Dell Vostro laptop works fine. Same cable reconnected to Dell Dimension 4700 is not working. This has all been working fine for years - usually I have a wireless network with the 4700 connected to the router by Ethernet cable, and the Vostro connected by wireless, but I have removed the router to close in on the problem.First, I am not sure if my ip settings are correct. Then I did the copy command copy slot0:xxxxxxx bootflash:xxxxxxxMy router starts up fine. I did all my configurations and did my copy run start when I was done. As this is what I do on my 3750s.
My router lost power and rebooted and I lost everything it did not boot up to my last configuration.How do I save my configurations when I am done ? How do I get it to boot from that configuration every time?

The first computer always is connected fine whether i unplug the router or modem in any order and replug. i dont know much how to fix this. ive tried some unplugging method once but it only worked until i turned the computer off and back on later. i am also running 2 xboxs with no trouble. i used cisco connect to diagnose problem but it just told me to unplug modem power and tv cable and i did that with no luck.although i have good equipment, the internet is pretty slow.i have the best service of my provider that states it has upto 50 mpbs download speed.i ran the cisco internet speed test and only got a max of 20 download and 5 upload.how could i speed this up?

Looking as my asa 5510 in my main office it appears that the connections to the other offices is not working..So could this be from the power outage.I don't know how or why it would change no setting have been changed..
But staff at remote offices cannot connect to the server..The error they see is the primary dns is not responding.

Since the power outage I can only get internet if I run straight into the modem. As soon as I run from the modem to any (tried 3 different ones) router I lose internet. I get a wireless signal on my router. I've reset the router to default settings. I've plugged in another router to the modem to check and I don't get anything from that router either (which was not plugged in during the power outage).

I been using my WRT54G with no problems for 2 years now. I lost wireless. I have 1 pc wired to the router and it works fine, e-mail, accessing the internet, everything. But I have 6 wireless devices ( 2 PCs, a printer, Nintindo 3Ds, a laptop and a nook) that use the wireless part of the router at different times. Anyways, last night, one of the wireless PCs lost connection, not seeing the router. Then I checked with each of the other wireless devices. None of them see the router. I tried many different things: powering down the router for two hours, hitting the reset button for 30 seconds, I even uninstalled the router and re-installed it and ran the setup-wizard. Again the pc I have wired to the router works but none of the wireless devices can see the router.
