I mean something that makes sense to someone who is new to wireless internetting?

View 1 Replies View RelatedWe've been using a 2Wire from our ISP to connect to the internet, and a Dlink DIR 655 for our wireless network. (Since the 655 has "N" speed, we can transfer large files between computers much faster than with the 2Wire.) The setup has worked fine for a few years, but recently both devices were slow. After turning them off and on a few times, unplugging, etc., without much effect, I reset both units. They're working now, but I've lost our network name and password; our Macs (and iPhone & iPad) are now using the default unlocked Dlink network. I tried to input the Dlink's default IP address, 192.168.0.1, but the address never connects. Any suggestions on how I can access our DIR 655's IP address, so I can reinstall a password and network name? If our tech guy (now unavailable) changed the Dlink's default IP address years ago, wouldn't it it have reverted to the 192.168.0.1 when I reset?

The device is working just fine but I just want to change the password but it failed. I opened my web browser enter 192.168.0.1 then logged into the admin account then put in the new password for both admin and user, clicked save setting...it asked for rebooting the device I let it rebooting. Everything went fine. I was able to log in both the admin and user acc with the new password. The only problem is that my PC can still connect to the network using the old password? I expect that the PC will need to use the new password to access the network but this is not the case.
Had to reset out DIR-655 router. This ended up changing our network password. Unfortunately, my DAP-1522 was not informed of this change and it will not connect to my Directv receiver now. I attempted to log into the bridge to change the password and it will not let me in. I attempted to reset the DAP in hopes that I would just be able to start over from scratch, but no dice (Assuming that I did it correctly)
View 4 Replies View Relatedi have a DIR-615 Rev C1, firmware 3.13.
After a reboot my password doesn't work anymore (wich is normal I guess) and all default passwords dont either. Such as ''Password'' or ''Admin''.
I just got a DCS-930L camera. I was able to set the password (10 characters) and complete the setup. It then said I needed to update the firmware which I did and it successfully completed. I was able to access it through the mydlink web page but when I clicked on the advanced settings, it wouldn't log in. I tried running the setup from the CD but it said "There was a problem saving your settings. Click Next to try again." That never worked. I tried a hard reset, no luck.
View 3 Replies View RelatedI will try to explain my problem as clear as possible but my knowledge about networks and routers is very limited.
I have a DIR-615 version:C1 firmware:3.13NA My ISP is ATT DSL Modem is Siemens SpeedStream 4100, it does not have a router built in Internet line is connected from wall to modem, to router, to PC.
after I upgraded the firmware I had no internet coming out of the router, I bypassed the router and connected straight to the PC and I got internet. I unplugged the power on both modem and router waited a whole night (I was too tired) and in the morning internet was back to PC and I had WIFI again BUT. When I put a password on the WIFI network all my stuff finds the signal but cannot connect, if I open the signal meaning if I have no password and the WIFI is open I can connect all of my electronics without any problems.
I already tried using WEP and WPA but still unable to connect anything, I been leaving my signal open when I'm at home for the last week and I don't like it.
Before the update everything worked fine.
I don't know if this matters but I have a PS3, Wii, Roku box, Laptop and a couple cell phones connected to it. And there are like 6 or 7 network signals close to my house.
I am using the 26 character WEP code. Was wondering if it's possible to setup a short password or PIN number. Been troubleshooting problems with a wireless blue ray player that has required multiple resets. Entering the wep code with the remote is hard!
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have DIR600 Rev. B1 for about 2 years, and it's been working without a problem.Suddenly yesterday, I could not connect to the internet from my 2 laptop & blackberry.SSID & signal reception looks normal. On checking into the router's web interface, I noticed that the network key was changed into something else.....normal character like y2tz39s.
I'm being very curious. Has it been hacked ? Is it possible?I'm using WAP/WAP2 Security Setting for wireless connection. All other settings seems intact (firewall & even the SSID). Only the password was mysteriously changed. If I consider it being hacked, I wonder why the hacker didn't mess up all other settings ?
When I try to connect to dlink on my Iphone there is a padlock symbol on it, and it requires a password , how do I find this password out please. I have a DIR-615 and am tech noob. Also I lost the info that came with the router. Is there any way to find out my password that an can understand?
View 5 Replies View RelatedI have a new laptop and had a dlink DIR601 installed on an older laptop. I wasn't the one who got it set up originally but they did have me write down my SSID, password and security key. The dlink came with a cd but there is no cd rom on this laptop. I have tried reset, on line download (which only let me do the revisions). I have talked to a few people and they say it's easy!
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently set up my DIR-615 on my wireless netbook. Everything worked fine and I could get online. But then when I changed the password on the router, it bumped me off and now says Internet isn't available. My phone can connect to Internet but not my netbook anymore. When my netbook tries to troubleshoot it keeps saying "problems with router and adapter."

DCS-930L firmware 1.04 and Mac OSX 10.5.8
I bought this router (DIR-655) some time earlier this year, so it hasn't even been half a year that I've owned the thing. I set it up in the small duplex I was sharing with my sister and it worked quite well. Actually... for the first 45 minutes I was freaking out because I was getting practically no signal, then I realized I had forgotten to screw in the antennas... but that little anecdote aside, it worked fine.
I've since moved into a new place. I got a new modem, still on Videotron, I just upped the speed from 7 MB/sec to 15 MB/sec. Before setting up the router I inserted the CD that came with it and followed the instructions therein... things seemed fine, except that he automatically used the same network name that I used at my last place... almost like he was stuck on it. I couldn't figure out how to create a fresh new network. But I shrugged it off and continued, entering my own password and everything else.
Now, at the end he gave me 4 pieces of information,
A router password. A network name (SSID), this is the one who's name was stuck to the old one. A network security type, I went for Most secure(WPA) And the network security key, this was a randomly generated alphanumeric code of some sort.
I copied this in two different ways and the installation wizard automatically saved me a copy onto the desktop, so I know for certain I got the passwords right. I pulled out my iPad later, saw the network, a good strong signal, and tried to connect except it's not accepting my password. The password I triple-saved and checked without a shadow of a doubt. On a whim I tried to use the Security Key, and that seemed to connect for some reason, but it is considerably slower than it was at my last place.
The modem isn't to blame (it's running on double the speed now) and the signal strength is good. It's just that something gone weird with the password, and it feels very slow. Even if it wasn't slow, I would really like to know why none of my wifi devices are accepting the password I assigned.
And I used that http://192.168.0.1/ trick to look into the router settings from my computer. I changed the network password into something new. And still none of the devices will connect, they keep telling me it's the wrong password. I am only able to connect through the Security Key and I don't like that! I tried to contact D-Link's technical support the other day, but it drew on for so long my cellphone actually ran out of minutes.
Short Version: None of my wifi devices are accepting the password I gave during the setup and I don't know why!
I'm running a 64-bit Windows 7 on 1-year old dual-core desktop computer.
i am using a D-Link 2730u, was trying to change the username and password for the router but it keeps saying that ACS URL is required, there is a place where i can put one but even after goggling it for a bit i didn't understand what should i put in there?
View 1 Replies View Relatedwe purchased a new Toshiba laptop recently w/ win 7 OS and we cannot connect wireless to router using verified password. all other laptops, computers, LCD, etc. connect with no issue. we are using N response and WPA2 security settings. we have changed security from personal to auto with no success. we have also changed settings from tpik and aes - no success. we have verified the password several time to make sure and we also tried a friend's laptop running win 2000 OS and it connected perfectly with password. the strangest thing is that we managed to connect the new Toshiba wireless (secured) at our friend's house eliminating the thought of an issue with the laptop. we upgraded the firmware to the lastest version and that did not solve issue. the new laptop sees the network router and request password but, cannot authenticate to connect
View 8 Replies View Relatedduring the first set up I have set a password as it was requested during the installation routine. After the installation, I added the camera's IP to my browser (tried IE9 and FF). In both cases I was asked to enter the user name and the PW, but I can't access the 930. I'm using the very same PW as I had set up during the routine, but none of the browsers accepts the PW.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI got a D-Link router not too long ago and I set it up in an odd way, the router password I gave it during the setup would not be accepted but the Network Security Key (the randomly generated alphaneumeric code) was accepted. I used it to connect all of my wifi devices.
The router password (which doesn't work), the "network name (SSID)", the network security type, and the network security key were all saved on my desktop. My computer has since suffered a critical crash and had to have it's hard drive erased. I still remember the password, the network name, and the security type. But the NSK (the thing I need to connect in place of a password) has been lost. It was this long random string of letters and numbers that I couldn't remember for the life of me.
I also remembered my Admin password, so I am able to log into http://192.168.0.1, but in here I only know how to change the regular password. I don't know how to access or change the NSK. change the security setting so that I can use the actual password instead of the NSK? Because of the crash I lost my iTunes libraries so I'm going to have to reset all my iOS devices, which are primarily what I use wifi on. If I reset them, they'll forget the wifi network and the assosiated NSK password, so I won't be able to use wifi at all.
