Just bought myself an 825. I've got it set up and working, but how do I prevent wireless users from accessing the setup pages for the router?
I only wish wired access to the setup pages. I'm used to doing this on my old linksys, but can't find the setting on the new router.
I would like to be able to access my DSL Modem's http setup screens from my networked computers via my DIR-655 (rev B) router - but I do not know how to get the router to route to the WAN port.
At first, I had my DSL Modem's LAN IP at 192.168.0.1 and my DIR-655 at 192.168.1.1 and the rest of my home network at 192.168.1.xxx; because I had read on a forum that having the modem on a different subnet prevented potential routing problems. When I pointed my web browser to 192.168.0.1 - it would just timeout (I kind of expected that).
Now (willing to try anything), I have my DSL Modem's LAN IP at 192.168.0.2 and my DIR-655 at 192.168.0.1 and the rest of my home network at 192.168.0.xxx (DHCP range is set to assign hosts from 64 to 254). When I point my web browser to 192.168.0.2 - it still just times out.
The DSL Modem is setup in transparent bridge mode. And everything else is working well with the home network.
How can I get the DIR-655 to pass/route my http connection to the DSL modem?
I cannot access the WRT610n setup/management pages wirelessly from my Macbook using safari. I can access the router via wireless from iPhone and PC and I can access it from the Macbook via ethernet cable.
When I try to access the router from the Macbook I just get "Contacting..." in the Safari status line and eventually it times out.
I can access the internet using Safari via WRT610n wireless. The only page I can't access is the router's management page.
i have a cisco DPQ3925 , im trying to setup user access for my kids to prevent them from accessing the net , i have set up the time of day and the user setup , but cant get it so u have to logon with the set user names to access the net.

I haven't played with network and firewall configs for a number of years now, but I want to configure my new TD-W8968 to block all unsolicited internet traffic/hacks.
I have a DAP-1513 unit but there is no section for that unit on the forum.Is is possible to access the configuration pages over the wireless connection. After setting up access to the main router via WPS, I can access the configuration pages for a few minutes after I "power cycle" the unit.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI am am having all kinds of problems with setting up my router. I finally got the LAN stuff to work but the wireless will not work its like something is blocking it but I don't see anything. I can ping from wireless to any IP address but I cannot open up web pages. You would think this is DNS issue but I my DNS l looks to be fine and the same DNS works on the 8 port switches on LAN side without issue. I also thought maybe its something to do with ACL but I don't see anything there either.

The first one gets my LAN up and running, and the second one will let me get my wireless up and working and show my SSID but for some reason I am blocked from the internet as far as web pages, and perhaps blocked is not the correct term at this point as it could well be settings but in any case I cannot get there. My level of knowledge is around the CCENT 1, and part of the CCENT 2. I was studying for the first test with my home lab two routers and two older switches when I decided to buy this and since working on this my actual experience has pushed past the first test and pushing me to learn a lot of new things. Many of the things in the AP I still don't understand from IOS perspective. all that bridging is a bit confusing and its not in my videos I study for the test.
(I did find a bug with the 891W model: if you use the GUI and enable the wireless using CCP then you go into the command line and put in guest mode to show the ssid it bugs out and it will not show the SSID. You fix by going back into CCP and turning off SSID and then the command line will work and it shows up, weird huh, but anyway I just put that in here in case some other person is looking for 891W and runs across the error)
Edited: OK I am adding a piece of information. I can ping Google at 74.125.227.51 "from a my PC connected to the wireless AP" but when I Put that same IP into the browser it will not go through. So seems like ICMP is getting through but maybe HTTP and HTTPS are not? I may be on wrong track but seems related.
Note: When connected to the Ethernet switch port 0 of the same router (its 8 port switch built in as well) I can get to all websites via browser without any issues. Its only with the wireless that I cannot.

I am trying to setup my DVR for remote access but my public IP and the routers WAN are not the same?
By now, I'm sure E4200 and other Router users that have twonky have noticed they cannot access the twonky configuration pages, as you have chosen to block them. Please give advanced users a work around to this, because if Twonky does not recognize our newer TV/devices, then we cannot play certain file formats without manually configuring the service.

Why does it take so long to log into the router and bring up the different pages in the settings. I have never seen a router take so long. I have not updated the firmware version 2.02NA. I have not upgraded it yet. oh I have a cable connection. When I surf the web the pages come-up fast.

Every time I try it.Router is good and signal is excellent but the admin router pages to configure are frustratingly slow.As a techie it is anoying, as a customer getting support by the hour spend more on a faster better quillity router were the work can be done in 1/20th of the time it takes on this router.I'd say I have a dud but once setup the router is a great performer if you do not need to admin the router further?

View 5 Replies View RelatedI'm connecting to the internet via ADSL. The modem is in our living room and has a DIR-655 connected to it. Also connected are an IPTV set-top box and an Xbox 360. In our office room we have 2 computers and a Buffalo LinkStation hard drive connected by wire to a DAP-1522 which is working as a bridge for the wireless network created by the DIR-655. The reason for this configuration is that the set-top box refused to work with IPTV through the wireless bridge. Before we got IPTV, the bridge was in the living room and was primarily used for Xbox, while the modem was in the office and allowed all desktop PCs to connect by wire.
Ever since we've had the desktop PCs connected via the bridge, surfing has been difficult. Download speeds are good, but very often webpages simply refuse to load. The browser just says "Connecting to [internet address here]. For example, I might log on to Facebook, have the front page load and then I try to open a picture someone has uploaded, but nothing happens. Clicking links, nothing happens. Clicking anywhere, nothing happens. Put a new address in the address bar, nothing happens. It just tries to connect the addresses, but won't.After waiting a while, or restarting the browser, it might work again for a while.
Is it my new modem, the DIR-655 or the DAP-1522? All devices get their IPs from the ADSL modem to ensure proper networking between the devices. Streaming from the NAS to the Xbox is flawless.
I`m new here I recently purchased the dir-615. I started configuring with cd but i couldn`t get past the step where it should verify if cables are plugged in , so I did it manually. Some pages won`t load , internet speed is slow ( Both wireless and lan speed ) . I am using a PPPOE connection , I even got my ISP to check my settings, and he said it was alright but it reduces my speed by a lot. Usually I download with 1 MB/s with the router on wi-fi I hardly get 50 kb/s and on lan max is 100 kb/s.

I have a Cisco 871 router at one of my client sites.(they purchased the router from me and I sent them the router with a basic configuration on it). When they connect it after hours clients get the proper IP addresses and dhcp configuration however are unable to access the internet.We are connecting their ISP supplied router to Gigabitethernet0. View 2 Replies View RelatedI recently upgraded my DIR-655 to firmware version 2.10NA , 17, Oct, 2012.Ever since the upgrade, on a wired connection the router will occasionally not serve pages. This shows up as a DNS error, stating the DNS lookup failed. If I wait a bit and reload the page, it will sometimes resolve itself. If I bypass the router and plug directly into the modem, the problem goes away completely.This is happening on my MacBook Pro, OS X 10.7.5, any browser (I use Chrome mostly, but also Safari and Firefox have the same issue). This is not happening on my Linux laptop which I use wirelessly, or my iPhone or any of my wireless clients, though the same MacBook occasionally has trouble connecting if I DO try to use it wirelessly (I receive a connection timeout and cannot log on). I'm not certain at this point if the trouble is with the router or the computer, but it only began happening (and happened immediately) after I installed the most recent firmware.

We have 9 WLCs around a corporate network. Each of the WLCs was in the same mobility group for failover purposes, and to permit APs to reconnect back to their primary WLC in the event of a failover.
However one of the sites has now been sold and pending separation of the LAN infrastructure the APs need to be isolated and prevented from associating with any WLC other than their primary (on site). From our experience once the APs know about other WLCs they retain this list in NVRAM even if the secondary WLC is removed from the configuration they will still associate with one of the known APs if possible (Cisco document this). WLC v 8.1.185.
I am not able to connect to any webpages in normal mode, even after restarting i still have the same problem [However it works in safe mode with networking]. The network connections show that it is connected and the signal strength is excellent. I then have to keep restarting the laptop like 3 to 4 times and it works. Its kind of frustrating to keep doing this all the time and besides i am scared by restarting the laptop so many time can harm it.
View 1 Replies View RelatedDropped VPN connections.I experienced a similar issue a few years ago with my LinkSys WRT54G router with dropped connections to my corporate network using the Cisco VPN Client. To make a long story short the problem was the result of the following:
1. The default ""Client Lease Time" on LinkSys routers is 0 which means 1 day or 24 hours.
2. By DHCP Protocol definition, DHCP clients must renew the DHCP client IP address lease at the 1/2 life cycle of the lease (12 hours if using the router's default setting). This is deadly for VPN clients as the short period of time when the client IP address is no longer valid, the VPN client considers this a loss of network connection. The LinkSys E-series routers further aggravate the situation by randomly assigning new IP addresses to DHCP clients instead of reassigning the client's previous IP address and tends to favor higher host IP addresses in the defined range.
Suggestions to prevent lost VPN client connections:
1. Change the "Client Lease Time" on the router to 8640 minutes (6 days 00:00:00).
2. Prior to establishing a VPN client connection, use the Windows Command Prompt to issue the "ipconfig /renew"
command to obtain a new IP address from the router that will be good for 3 days (72 hours).
3. Configure your E-series router to use the <DHCP Reservation> option to pre-assign IP addresses to your systems making sure they are outside the range of the dynamically assigned DHCP addresses. Using default settings,these would be in the range of 192.168.1.2 thru 192.168.1.99 as the router starts at 192.168.1.100 thru 192.168.1.149.
I had to get a new router from verizon cause the old one died. so i reset the camera and wipe all the dlink software and settings. I then start fresh. i get all the way to choosing wireless and input the password. It states that there is a problem saving your settings. I tells me nothing more. I spent 4 hours on the phone with tech support and i can get it working through wired but I can't put it in my childs room wired. it worked perfectly before the router switch. funny thing is that its the same brand and model router.

I'll establish a remote control session to their computer, and then I'll reconfigure the router settings. I know how to reconfigure the router just fine.
1) How long do you press the reset button, the manual says 10 seconds, is that correct?

The person on the other side can't access the router with a LAN cable, so once reset, the only way to get into the router will be via wireless; that's why I want to be sure I can do this before we do the reset.
