I I have a Bell 2wire 2701HG-G modem that is acting as both my modem and router at the moment. I also have a D-link DIR-655 router that I would like to connect because of the N capabilities. I have read several pages online as to how to do this, however, I haven't been able to find a complete tutorial, and as I always manage to screw something up, I would like have the complete steps to do this without totally screwing up my internet. Too many people would not be happy with me if I did. I have 1 wired desktop, a wired xbox and several things running wirelessly on the network.
I have been putting up with rubbish wireless signal down one end of my house now for quite some time. So I thought I have a spare wireless router and I could put it down there but I am sure ts not as easy as just plugging it and away you go.
Network Setup
Router 1 is a D-Link DIR-655 Router 2 is a D-Link DI-524
I need to know how to setup Router 2 so it basically become just a wireless access point
this is something that's been bugging me for quite a while now.At home I use both a laptop and a PC connected to the network through a wireless router.I get my internet from Comcast and so far am very happy with the speed etc. The router is now 4 years old (Linksys). The thing is that I cannot download certain things at home (no firewalls) but when I take the PC to work,I can download them without a problem. The programs I'm referring to is usually Microsoft related programs (Outlook connector, Silverlight etc...). When I try downloading, it opens a small ie window with an error message, and at the next step it says link is broken.
I have a Cisco 1800 ISR router running IOS 12.4(22)T5.Clientless SSL VN is configured and working, and has three bookmarks. When logged into Clientless SSL VPN and displaying the portal page in IE-8, the bookmarks are visible and functioning as expected. When logged into Cleintless SSL VPN and displaying the portal page in FireFox-14 or Chrome-21, the bookmarks are not visible. The window for the bookmarks is displayed, but the content (file tree) is not.
I have an ESW-500, a SPA525G (also tried 504G), Polycom IP330/670 phones, and a Switchvox (Asterisk-based IP-PBX) and CDP causes some issues. Both the SPA5xx and Polycom phones support CDP but it appears to operate differently between the phones. And, surprisingly, worst of all on the SPA's.
In short:
* Switch - CDP enabled (VLAN 100), DHCP disabled (Option 82 enabled) which is basically how it comes out of the box
* Polycom phones - CDP enabled (default)
* Cisco phones - CDP enabled (default)
* DHCP/TFTP server on port 1
* Phones on ports 7,15,19 - default as smartports for Desktop & Phone
* Switchvox on port 17 - port configured as General (not Trunk) with 1U & 100U VLANs. This was required to get Polycom phones to appear in Switchvox config
With that configuration the Polycom phones work perfectly. They appear in the switch web-GUI under CDP, they present in Switchvox and can be configured. But with that configuration although the Cisco phones appear in the CDP screen they do not get DHCP. My DHCP server can see 'DHCP Discover' messages but it just goes around in circles. Disabling CDP on the switch will allow the phone to get an IP but disabling CDP on the phone still has the same problem. When I saw "around in circles" this is what I mean....
Rcvd DHCP Discover Msg for IP 0.0.0.0, Mac 00:25:84:06:12:46 [10/08 13:51:27.031] DHCP: proposed address 192.168.100.16 [10/08 13:51:29.000] 4064 Request 2 not processed [10/08 13:51:29.062] Rcvd DHCP Discover Msg for IP 0.0.0.0, Mac 00:25:84:06:12:46 [10/08 13:51:30.093] DHCP: proposed address 192.168.100.16 [10/08 13:51:31.593] 4064 Request 2 not processed [10/08 13:51:31.656]
[code]....
With the difference being there's a 'DHCP Inform Msg' which there never is from the Cisco.I have tried many options regarding DHCP Relay, DHCP Server addresses, DHCP VLAN Interfaces, smartport settings etc but with CDP enabled the Cisco phone just will not get DHCP.
I am trying to setup ATT DSL modem through D-Link router Dir-615. I was instructed to use PPPoE and setup username and password in router. When I do, the router does not save my network password, but reverts back to some hidden password. I have tried changing it in Tools, but it keeps reverting. I'm sure this is why I cannot access the internet.
I have a Ricoh printer hiding on a Dlink DIR-655 with a 192.168.10.101 address. This gateways to 192.168.1.1, which is a Westell DSL modem. I need to allow wireless accounts on the Westell modem to communicate with, and only with, the Ricoh printer.
I have a network which was recently switched from dsl to comcast. The default network is 10.1.10.1. The dhcp is working with the 5 or 6 installed pc's. All pc's are running xp professional.I inserted the dlink 4 port switch to add a new port by inserting it between the router and a pc.
Since always, my wireless connection had two options, the AARON network, which I always used and dlink (unsecured) which I never used. While connected to the AARON network, it lost connection, and dissappeared from my list of available connections. Is there anyway to get it back?
I have Comcast internet and a DLink DIR-655 router. I have a laptop, Playstation 3 and 2 Blackberrys hooked up on my wifi. I also think my neighbor is using or trying ot use my wifi.I need a software program or piece of hardware that will allow logging of the URL's that are requested through my router.I currently use OpenDNS, and the service itself is pretty good. However, it doesn't tell which user is requesting which URL, and if a website is visited with 10 ads on it, it also shows the URL's for the ad hosting company, even though they didn't actually type that URL in.
I am currently trying to set up my old Dlink DIR-655 Router as an Access Point in my dorm room. We are only given one ethernet port in the bedroom and dragging a 50ft ethernet cable between the bedroom and the common area in the suite is no fun. I have tried to far unsuccessfully. I think the problem is related to the 802.1x authentication that is used on the network. How to get it to work? So far I have disabled DHCP, UPnP and then plugged the first client LAN port into the ethernet port that is provided. I can connect to the router and access the admin panel but there is no connection to the internet. It also did not work plugging my computer into a second LAN port instead of connecting wirelessly.
I would like to have the best networking on my cyber with a D-Link router, IDU and a D-Link switch so as to connect more than 10 Computers, and send me a mapping of the computers and Manual.
I bought a D-Link DIR-655 hoping to get a faster connection over my Netgear WNR2000.I runs mostly fine apart from the occasional freezes and one other problem: youtube video's won't load. I can search and browse youtube, but when I click on the video, the page loads but the video just doesn't load. I can see the play/pause button and the circle telling use the video is loading. Then that's it. Nothing happens. When I plug back my WNR2000, Youtube videos load fine. Same thing on my roommate's laptop. I bought this router over a month ago so I can't return it, spending $80 on a piece of shit like is frustrating when living off a student budget. I'm just about to throw it out the window
I am having a tough time connecting these two routers wirelessly, i had connected a WRT54G Linksys software to the WRT54G DD-WRT router with no effort. But these two will just not connect.
I want to edit existing wireless network in DLINK router. But I can't find any option to do it. If I go to "wireless settings" option, it shows the three options "wireless network setup wizard", "add wireless device with WPS", "manual wireless network setup", but I cannot find any option to edit the wireless network that was already set up.
I have a dir-615 D-link router. It is well installed with my main computer that is an old XP windows system. I tried to create a network to give acces to my friend laptop when he comes home(he has a mac). I setuped a network with a name and a password. So my friend could find the network name and i gave him the password, but it never works. Another friend of mine also came with an older iBook laptop and the same thing happens.
I am attempting to install a D-LINK DWL3200 into my office network. I can't for the life of me get into the router though to change the password and name!I've read through various forums about running ipconfig and that giving me the gateway - However, we main router where the internet runs through so the IP address of the gateway is the main router! The default IP address listed on several forums is 192.168.0.50, but as everything in this network has an IP .50 is a printer!
My entire floor receives wifi from a D-Link router box. For the first 4 months, my laptop was able to find and connect to our wifi fine. Last night the internet crashed. All of my German housemates have internet again, but my laptop does not show the network anymore. My wireless card picks up all the other signals in range, but not our router's. I can only get internet with an ethernet cable.
I am puzzled about some problems that occured at my work place. Unmanaged switch like D-link & Linksys was used and it worked pretty fine only for certain areas of the factory. Then office with more workers will be using managed switch to ensure the workers have decent connection to the local server.
Question is, why are some small offices' connection so ridiculously slow?
*Info*
The switches manage 4PCs
Tested - The main connection cable cannot go through the switch to distribute the connection. Even if there is only 1 PC linked to the switch, it will still be slow. It will be at it's max if it didnt go through the switch, but directly to the PC instead.
True enough that unmanaged switch aren't smart enough to allocate the speed, but why is it possible for some other part of the small office to have fast connection even by using the normal unmanaged switch?
I have 2 wireless routers. Belkin Wireless G plus mimo Model# F5D9230-4 Ver.3001 and a D-link Dir-615 ver.B2. I am using the Belkin router has my main router. The wife’s laptop and the Wii console connect to the router wirelessly. I also connect a few PC directly to the router via Cat5 cables which runs through most rooms in the house. Since the router is down in the basement in my control panel along side the cable modem and what not. This causes the wireless single to be pretty weak in certain parts of the house. What I was planning on doing is taking the D-link router connecting it to the wall jack upstairs to the internet port on the router. Then setting both routers to static and changing the Belkin router to DHCP?
I have just purchased a new ASUS Laptop for my wife.We are currently running two destop computers on a D LinK Router. How do I go about including the new computer on the network wirelessly? What do I need to purchase to make the transition easiest? The two desktops are running Windows XP Professional, the new system is Windows 7.
I have an ADSL connection using a wireless DLink modem 2730U I want to share my internet with my neighbour as limited speed and limited traffic. How can I do this? Is it possible as wireless?
At home I have a D Link DSL-2640R wireless adsl router/modem in my downstairs office.I would like to use the cable which goes to upstairs of the house to link to some sort of extra router or switch in order to provide more network ports upstairs.
So far I have tried doing a factory reset, power cycling, upgrading my firmware, and changing my channel [even though there weren't any interfering networks on the same channel in my area].
This problem started a while ago and has been going on for several months now. I will lose access to the internet for a brief period of time [1-2 seconds], but this is very annoying. I will exit conversations on MSN, downloads will stop sometimes, and it is virtually impossible to play online multiplayer games since I keep losing connection every five minutes or so.
The connection works just fine when I connect my modem directly to my PC.
I have two d link 604 and want to connect both together so that any pc connected to the repeater can connect to the internet. I am running win xp sp3,p4,2gb,asus p4p800-vm with all updates and firmware of router updated.
About 3 or maybe 4 years ago I bought a Dlink DIR-655 wireless router. On the box it listed it as an Xtreme N Gigabit Router, Wireless N (Draft N). I've had two Windows PCs connected to this router by Cat5 with "Intel 82562V-210 10/100 Network Connection" NICs on each set to "Auto detect". The link speed on the NICs show as 100Mbps.Also, I have an MBP and a Windows laptop that connects to this router at times, both with built-in wireless cards.I have Insight Cable and a 20Mbps download and 1.38 upload speeds. This router has worked great for the past years. Since it was getting a little old, I thought I would buy another just like it to have when this one defaults.I ordered a replacement from Amazon. The picture of the router at Amazon was the same as the one I have now. When the router arrived, it was a Dlink DIR-655; however, the router had a different faceplate and larger lights. On the box it listed it as "Xtreme N Gigabit Router". Also listed was N+ 300.
When I set the new DIR-655 up for my LAN and wireless, everything worked OK.However, I noticed the link speed on the NICs had dropped to 10Mbps.I can disable the NIC and then enable, or, unplug and plug in the Cat5 cable, and it will connect at 100Mbps for about 5 seconds and then revert back to 10Mbps.I returned the router to Amazon and purchased another just like it from Office Depot. The same problems are back.I have used the router set-up disk and have done a manual set-up. I cannot get the NICs to connect to the router above 10Mbps.I have turned off wireless, made different settings throughout the router and nothing works.I can set the NICs to 100Mbps full duplex and I get 1.5Mbps download speeds. If I set them to 100 half duplex, I might get 5Mbps.Believe me; I have just about changed every setting on this router with no success. I've turned the firewall, QoS off then on, wireless off and on, put one PC outside the router, but nothing works. Also, firmware is up to date. When I connect my PC direct to Insight modem or connect the original DIR-655, I get 100Mbps on the NIC and 20+Mbps download speed.I cannot get the NICs to connect above 10Mbps on this "new DIR-655" router.
I am having a terrible time getting a good signal from my DLink-DIR655 router to my Samsung HDTV with a linkstick to have access to the apps like Netflix. My router is located about 60 feet away but the signal is sufficient to connect to my laptop located in the same room as the tv. I have been told the router should be no more than 20 feet from the tv and have tried a DWL-G710 range extender but that doesn't work.
I have already successfully upgraded the firmware to DD-WRT with no problems. What I want to do is have the D-Link DIR-601 Router set as a Repeater Bridge because I am trying to expand my wireless signal to dead spots in the house.I have NO SECURITY enabled on my NetGear Router and I am still unable to successully setup the D-link DIR-601 Router as a Repeater Bridge.
I have a computer connected through wifi to the internet.I then turn on the computer into ICS mode and connect that to my PS3/Xbox.I'm trying to get an OPEN NAT type but just can't seem to get it working.I've read a few different pages and have tried some things but it's never worked.I've heard of bridging connections and the sort but I'm not familiar with it. I just want to get an OPEN NAT on my PS3/Xbox.
I've a new Dlink DIR-632. All ports snif from outside are answering stealth by default. And the port forwarding feature works good. The problem is that I would like to allow a trusted net IP to reach my computer, whatever the request may be (whatever tcp/udp and on any ports). A kind of DMZ just for a precise IP. I tried the inbound filter feature. I've choosen allow, and I've put the remote IP start and end the same IP. It has been added correctly to the list. However, this IP still doesn't seem to be able to access to my computer on any port unless it tries on an already forwarded port.
