My Motorola 850G router is several years old and working fine. However, my wi-fi connection is presently "unsecured" and I need some assistance as to how to go about setting up a secure network. My browser is not recognizing the router's default IP address.

I have a WiFi setup where the wifi signal can go to 2 houses on my long-range property. One wifi router (Motorola WR850G w/ newest firmware update) is up on a pole between 2 of the houses. I could access it fine via wifi on my PC ever since i set it up a while back, but I was messing with it one day last week (nothing major changed), and all of a sudden now I cannot access the router setup page no matter what! (IP=192.168.10.1 by default).... it just simply times out now and gives me the 30 seconds loop to a page not displayed error in my browser.
I really would like to reset it via wifi, since its up powered on the pole outside, it'd be difficult to get up there and reset it myself. Is there a way I can get access to the page again in any way, by only using wifi from my PC????
The WiFi works great either way, and pinging to the router is 1ms so I just don't get it! Things I've done:
1. Pinged router, pings fine from any PC via WiFi...
2. Changed PC from DHCP, to 192.168.10.8 to get a non-used IP, since maybe it was timing out to the 192.168.10.7 IP I was using via DHCP. No go, it still times out no matter which PC or IP I have!
Id like to keep private the fact that im using a Dlink router, for exemple, if someone tries to connect to my network they will be directed to a page with something like,d-link error page Oops! The page you requested is not available
Where can I delete this function, so that there is no page at all shown ?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI have bought EA4500 router recently in preparations for the Singapore fibre broadband upgrade.
But for the time being I'm using it to connect to my current Linksys WAG200G ADSL Wireless Gateway.
Here's the issue I'm currently facing. I have set my EA4500 router default IP address to 192.168.1.10 to aviod conflicts with my gateway which is using 192.168.1.1. But everytime when I connect my router to the gateway, the router's default IP address changes to 10.179.159.126 or some other random IP address by itself whenever I try to change to back. However, I'm still able to surf the internet and stuffs with that current settings.
Is there something that I could do to prevent the IP address from changing by itself? And will the same thing happen again when I upgrade to fibre broadband?
I have second hand motorola surf board and it has been deactivated from the company. how can i reset it and activate it to my computer manually.

View 3 Replies View Relatedhrome threw me a DNS lookup failed. I go into my network settings and I noticed that I had limited connectivity. It would switch between no network access and no internet access every few seconds. After a bit of fiddling around, I got it to connect through assigning myself a static IP. This isn't exactly convenient because I use this computer on multiple networks. When I try to have it on automatic IP, I get no IP address or default gateway when I do an ipconfig /all. It would appear that my router quit assigning my laptop an IP for no reason whatsoever. DHCP is enabled on the router, and all other devices work fine. What could possibly be the problem here? I'm 99% sure it's not an IP conflict either. It's not being MAC filtered because I'm on the thing right now posting this through a static IP. It's not my A/V because it's worked great in the past. Perhaps I should also mention it occasionally says "unidentified network" instead of the SSID

One minute it was connected to the internet, the next it was on and off, I reset it and restarted and it wasn't recognized. I would like to know what ip addresses I should see in this table. Shouldn't my default gateway IP have the same mac address as my computer or router? There are 2 different ip address/mac addresses from different a ISP than mine. I have a cisco DPC3825..I suspect a someone is spoofing my DNS.

View 4 Replies View RelatedI have a D-link WBR-2310 wireless router connected to a ZyXEL P-600 series modem. Everything worked fine untill a couple days ago when I had a power surge; since then the wireless router won't show on the modem that the ethernet cable is plugged in, and I get no wireless or DSL internet. I called the internet service provider, and they told me to reset both the modem and the router, which I did and it worked fine for about an hour; then it didn't recognize the cable again. I thought maybe it was the ethernet cable itself so I bought a new one, and it didn't correct the problem. When I hook any of the cables up directly from the modem to the labtop or the pc the ethernet light comes on and I have internet connection again. Why doesn't my router recognize the cable?

No other hardware has changed except the router.I've tried both Google DNS and OpenDNS. In either case, the DNS settings can be entered and saved in the Basic Settings tab, but when I go to the admin tab, it shows my ISP's deafult DNS.
View 4 Replies View RelatedI attached WD My Book Mirror 2TB to E4200 with firmware 1.0.01 but it was very UNreliable. It would give I/O errors when I tried to access the harddisk. So I upgraded to firmware 1.0.02. Now E4200 doesn't recognize my hard disk at all. Yes, my hard disk is in the list of tested devices using NTFS.I contacted support but no luck.
I also have bad range with this router where I am only about 20ft from the router (2 walls in between) but I get about 3 bars out of 5 on my Windows 7. Could it be because I purchased a refurbished product directly from Cisco?
We have 3 WAP4410N on our network. Our laptops pick them up but I cannot access the configuration Utility or ping the default IP address. If their IP addresses have been changed how do I find out what their current IP adds are? We currently use static IP addressing for our network.

Get NETWORK ERROR "Windows cannot access \goflex_home" Error Code: 0x80070035. Can not map netork drive. Under Win Explorer the drive DOES appear as "GoFlex Home:UPNP-AV" in TWO places, 1) under Media Devices & 2) Under Storage. Bother places are treated as MEDIA because, when I click on either of them it opens Windows Media Player! The router seemed to recognize the storage, and the computers on the network could see it as a shared drive. Now I have plugged in a Seagate 7200 internal hard drive inside a Rocketfish enclosure, but the router is not recognizing anything. I just upgraded the firmware to 1.0.04, but there was no change. Are there problems using an enclosure rather than just plugging in an external hard drive?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI bought an EA6500 router mid january. Firmware is 1.1.28.146856 from day 1 I used this new router. I attached my 750Gb Maxtor OneTouch 4 USB disk to it to share data over my network. I was able to define shares on it. Perfect. .. until I wanted to copy several GB's to this disk. It indicated it would take more than 1 day to finish this copy. So I removed this disc from the router (after removing it in the USB menu). I copied the data from my pc to the disc and attached it back to the router. From then on, it always indicates that no disc is present. Resetting the router did not work. Attaching a USB stick to the router does not cause a problem. It is visible and I can copy data to it. After attaching my Maxtor again, it shows no stations attached... (sharing a disk via the router was one of the reasons for buying this type)

Some info:
1) Cable modem works perfectly when connected directly to computer ethernet port
2) ISP is Optimum Online
3) Using Automatic DHCP setting on router
4) Using MAC cloning on router
5) I can access the router's admin screen from the PC
6) I can connect to the router wirelessly, but no internet access
7) I've tried powering down everything multiple times, still no internet access
8) I upgraded the router firmware to 4.30.14
9) The "link" light on the cable modem never lights up when connected to the router

View 1 Replies View RelatedBefore the latest update and with the latest update, after about one week, I cannot access the router wirelessly using 192.168.1.1. Using IE 10, Chrome, and FireFox all give me no response. I type in the address and the web page never changes. It keeps me at the home page of my browser. I do not get any errors or messages.
Also I tried to use the DHCP Reservation page, and the names of the devices will not allow spaces or any special characters. Sure would be nice to allow such.
I just noticed that my router reverted back to 1.1.28.146856. I have updated twice via the web browser to version 1.1.28.147876 and once via direct connection and the downloaded file, but the router keeps reverting back to the older firmware.
Client is having 1 file server running small business windows server 2003. Server is not configured with domain, it is working only on workgroup. We have around 15 users who are using that server as file server only. Now my main question is do i need to configure DNS server in that server?we also have internet connection running (have problem in that also, will explain next time) with wireless router to connected with switch. So do I need to setup dns in server also or just put static ip (I prefer static then dhcp) & dns server from ip will be ok? If I put dns which I got from ISP, so will it create any problem with using those file from server?the second question is..
