Run The Cat5 To A Linksys Router And Use Wireless It Fails?
Mar 4, 2012
When I vacation in Florida my neigbour across the street gives me her wep key so I can use her internet. I have to sit by the window in order to get a signal. I purchased the range extender and set it up with her ssid and wep key I ran cat5 from that into the house. If i use the cat5 on a laptop it works fine. When I run the cat5 to a linksys router and use wireless it fails I can connet to the wirless router but no internet.

Have had ADSL installed through a router, connected the wireless router and it works fine Have since connected the original router via -120mtrs of CAT5 cable to extend to the house. Connection through LAN is fine into desktop however the minute we try to connect an additional wireless router the connection fails. We have even put the LAN from the second Wireless into the desktop and there is no connectivity. We have had a technician come to sort the problem, they advise that they have no explanation as to why the LAN works from the distance but the wireless does not. They have suggested that we need to cut the CAT5 half way and put an antenna up to connect the two routers.

I have comcast Triple HD cable internet and I have been using a low end 5 year old Linksys Router. I decided to upgrade and get the E3000. So far I have had no luck at all getting it to work. Setup fails to even connect at all. I spent 2 hours on the phone with tech support. There were in trying to get it up and running but we have been unable to get a TCP/IP number from my provider (comcast). I hooked up the old router to see if any of my settings looked unusual but they seemed normal.

I have a E4200 V1 with firmware 1.0.0.5 installed The problem is that when I connect the cable from my modem to my router and recycle both I get a rapidly fashing Cisco light and can not connect to the internet. If I remove that cable and recycle the router my network works but (obviously) I have no internet connectivity. This was working (almost 2 years) without issue until today.I updated the firmware and did a factory reset and neither resolved the issue. My next experiment is to see if I can't get log files (since the factory reset) but I can't do that at this time.

I am trying to upgrade the firmware on my Linksys v1 router from 1.0.02 to 1.0.03 over a remote 56Kb circuit. I appear to be having a timeout problem. The upgrade always fails. I have upgraded several E1200s in my office over ethernet, and the upgrade appears to finish when the progress bar is at 15%. However, on my remote upgrade, the progress bar gets to 98%, hangs for a few more seconds, and then pops up a window with "Upgrade failed".
I suspect that there is a timeout on the upgrade process, and that I can't upload the 3.8 MB firmware file fast enough. If so, is there any way to increase the upgrade timeout?

I purchased and installed the above router to replace a working router that had a problem with our new condo location. The old router couldn't access one of our computers. The EA 3500 worked seamlessly for 6 months. Now the connection fails intermittently (more times off than on) from that one computer. It is two rooms over from the router & modem. These are now in a fixed location that cannot be moved.

Just purchased an E2000 (Firmware version 1.0.03) to use with DDNS. Much to my surprise there seems to be a problem with saving the password at the configuration screen. [code] With the above settings entered and the Update button pressed favorable results are obtained; the router reports that DynDNS.org updates okay. However once the "Save Settings" button is pressed an update fails with the error "Authorization failure bad ID or password".Is anyone else experiencing this issue? Is the password field limited to certain characters?

I encounter a problem setting up port 80 forwarding on WRT54g router.
Configuration:
- Numericable modem
- WRT54G router : portforwarding configured, accepting anonymous internet traffic, no DMZ, no port-triggering... in fact everything is fine except for ports 80/443
- Linux Ubuntu server + Apache2 listening *:80 and/or *:15001
1/ Situation 1: Apache listening on server's *:15001
-> Accessing from Internet (outside LAN) works very fine.
-> Portforwarding of router:15001 to server:15001 (TCP) works fine.
2/ Situation 2: Apache listening on server *:80
-> Accessing from Internet (outside LAN) FAILS.
-> Portforwarding of router:80 to server:80 (TCP) doesn't work. Diagnostic using the client machine's firewall tool showed the request doesn't get any return... no traffic back at all.
The system being fully operational when using port:15001 shows the problem does not come from server configuration.I still have to try a bypass of my router by plugging the modem directly on the server eth card.
-> If that works it would definitely prove the problem comes from the router, precisely the portforwarding feature as applied to port:80.
My guess is the following:
- As WRT54g router's remote administration interface is precisely set to listen 80/443 ports.
- As I still did not disable remote administration as I need it, but I will come to such extremities (very soon in fact as despair is gaining me
- Looks like WRT54g is unable to forward port 80 as this is it's remote administration port. You can set it up, but it just won't work, and there's no warning
Solutions?
- Disable remote administration? (will it work ? cause I would not risk to disable it for nothing...)
- Have remote administration litening on different ports than 80/443?
- Is my diagnostic correct ? (at least, does it seems to be...)
- (shall I get another device? Update to alternative firmware project?)
PS : I could be asked for ifconfig/netstats/hdw-fmw version, I would post later as I do not have access now.Looks like to me it is recurrent issue on WRT54g (maybe I'm wrong and just an **bleep** in LAN/WAN configuration which is highly possible)

After an indeterminate period my E4200 (firmware version 1.0.03) stops renewing the Internet IP address. This happens in both router mode and bridge mode.In router mode the E4200 is set for DHCP and connected to the cable modem, in bridge mode it is connected to a Dell switch with DHCP being provided by my Win2008R2 server. It appears that the device stops recognizing the existence of the Internet port - no lights come on when a cable is plugged in - whether connected to the cable modem or my Dell switch. Plugging the same cable into one of the 4 lan ports and that port lights up immediately (i.e. it is not a patch cable problem). If the E4200 is left switched off for some time (possibly days) it will work properly again for a while.

I have a new Linksys 1500 router which I am using to replace an older WRT54GS. They are connected to a wired router (BEFSR81) to allow a wireless network to work in conjunction with my wired one. The WRT54GS ran as an access point. The 1500 does not seem to have that option. I have successfully been able to set up the new router and use it with laptops, ipads, etc. Where I’m running into problems is with my Squeezebox. Although I can see the network and enter a passcode into the Squeezebox, it never connects (the light on the Squeezebox is green (acquiring IP address from network). It never gets beyond this point. I have tried: Disabling securityChanging mode from mixed to various optionsDisabling firewallsNothing seems to work

we finally got my Cisco refurbished E2500 configured and working downstream from a UVerse 3801HGV box. We had to change the default IP address of the 3801 because it conflicted with the E2500's default. The E2500 is set up to get its Internet IP address using DHCP from the 3801. This is working fine for normal web browsing, etc. However, anything that requires extended connections (downloads, streaming, etc) freezes after a couple of minutes, forcing me to refresh the action to get it started again. Extremely annoying to say the least.
I'm pretty sure that I've tracked it down to the E2500's configuration of the 3801's DHCP allocation. For some reason, the E2500 wants to set the DHCP Lease Time for the 3801's assigned IP address to 10 minutes regardless of the upstream settings from the 3801. The 3801's default is 24 Hours which I've changed to 168Hours (7 days), but the E2500 stays stuck at 10 Minutes. Specifically, I'm referring to the setting displayed on the E2500 under Status>Router>Internet Connection IPV4>DHCP Lease Time.

Config:
Netgear ProSafe Gigabit Router is my DHCP Server -- The entire home net work is on the same subnet (192.168.15.xxx)
Linksys E4200 configured as an access point ONLY -- wired connection -- static IP assigned -- DHCP server turned off
Linksys WRT610N configured as an access point ONLY -- wired connection -- static IP assigned -- DHCP server turned off
3 -- 5 port gigabit switches
1 -- 8 port gigabit switch
No more than two switches between any two wired devices Both Linksys access points have the same SSID and WPA2 security phrase -- total of 4 radios Nonoverlapping channels are selected on both the 2.4Ghz and 5.0Ghz radio to minimize interference All computers are running Windows 7 Professional 64bit with all the latest updates Two iPhones and one iPad also access the network All LAN and WAN connectivity is working as designed?
Problem:
guest SSID is turned on
password is established
All devices will connect to the guest SSID and the E4200 is assigning an ip address to the device in the 192.168.33.xxx range which is what it's supposed to do.When I open a web browser, I am not automatically redirected to the Cisco Login Page. If I enter 192.168.33.1 as the URL, the login screen is presented. I enter the password I have created in the guest admin page on the wireless guest tab. I then see a blank page and a URL of 192.168.33.1/guestnetwork.asp. THIS IS WHERE I GET STUCK. THE ONLY WAY TO EVER SEE THE LOGIN PAGE AGAIN IS TO REBOOT THE E4200, otherwise you just get unable to connect messages when opening web browsers and the wireless status icon in the system tray shows a yellow exclamation mark.
I successfully connect to the guest SSID but I do not get access to the internet. When I type ipconfig, I see that the DNS is set to 192.168.33.1 which does not exist on my network. I assume there's some internal NAT magic that is supposed to happen in the E4200 to bridge me over to my 192.168.15.xxx network but it doesn't seem to be happening. At the beginning of the call I specifically asked them if the E4200 must be the DHCP server in order for the guest SSID feature to work and they said no. 1.5 hours later they had no answers so they told me that it wasn't working because the E4200 was not the DHCP server. The documentation says nothing about a DHCP requirement for guest AP service. Linksys support further could not answer what you would do if you needed more than one AP with guest service enabled. It seems like this is a firmware issue but it may be the guest SSID service requires the E4200 to also act as the DHCP server. Whether this is a bug or if the router/AP is working as designed?

I have one of the above units which has worked fine since i first set it up over a year ago.Yesterday I tried to add an Epson sx425 WI-FI printer, I followed the instrucions and it connected ok however it started to drop the link intermitently and kept failing to print (which was also crap from my machine and total jibberish from any other!) then it lost it all together and all the other wireless devices lost their connection .The router reported it was ok with good signal strength but nothing connected so I switched it off for half an hour and rebooted but it was still the same so I tried to change the pass word but still nothing will connect. I have tried to reset the router also but this had no effect. the units plugged in via wire are working ok it is just something to do with the wirless signal.

I purchased a WRT160N router last Friday. After setting it up, everything seemed to work fine, but after a couple of hours, the router stopped responding to any requests. The LEDs stayed on as if nothing had happened, but the router was dropping everything coming from both the WAN and a wired LAN interface. Since than, I had to restart it 3 times during the last 3 days. The firmware is 1.53.0, which seems to be the latest firmware for the European market - even when I try to get a newer firmware, this site only offers the US version 1.02.2.Should I update the firmware to the US version 1.02.2 ? Is there any difference between the 1.53.0 and the 1.02.2 version ? Is there a way to restore the original firmware in case the update fails ? I haven't found any link to 1.53.0 version..Also, does this firmware updating affect my warranty ?

Our wireless router is in a room at one end of the house (beside the telephone point) from which ethernet cables can connect to the Cat5 sockets taking the broadband to the other rooms that have a Cat5 socket. That is fine for connecting devices to the sockets in the other rooms but because the house is old with thick walls our wifi signal fades to nothing in some parts of the house. Moving the wireless router only moves the problem to another area. I thought about a wifi repeater but the room I would like to locate it in to then boost the signal to the rest of the house is borderline on the range for the wireless router. Is it possible to connect another wireless router or device to the main wireless router through the Cat5 cabling so that the second router/device can offer wifi to that area of the house?

I have a computer that is directly connected to my internet broadband service via my router and modem. From that computer, by use of a router (of course), I have a wireless connection to another desktop computer in my home, about 90 feet away. From that remote wireless internet broadband connection, I'd like to connect to yet a third computer. That third computer will be 200 more feet away. I have a direct Cat5 wire from the wireless computer desktop to that point 200 feet away. I'm thinking of adding a computer at that point. So, that raises my question: Can a computer receiving a wireless signal, then relay or transmit that signal to another computer that is "hard wired" to it via a Cat5 wire?
