Use Wcg200 As Bridge?
Dec 19, 2012
So I have an RV120W as my "main router" but I can't get a wire into the garage to get a couple of computers in there access to the internet / LAN. I have a WCG200 cable gateway at my disposal, with a built in 4port switch and wondered if I can configure it's WLAN to connecto the RV120W SSID and use wireless as my link between my garage network and the rest of the house LAN? WCG200 isn't going to connect at blinding speeds, which I'm ok with, I just wanted to know if it's possible?

Our family has about three computers that use a wireless network that we all share. We have an old Gateway, a WCG200, that is bridged to an E2000, which was set-up ever since we required better security when someone used our connection to illegally obtain movies. We got a letter which warned us of any future violations that could cause legal action, so we looked into our wireless connection to better secure it from any other individuals outside of our household. The WCG200 is connected to the outlet in the wall via cable, and then connects from the Ethernet to the E2000. The E2000 has a stronger security setup than the WCG200, which is the advice we received from our ISP and would allow us to keep the Gateway. It provides a strong signal, but from time to time, we suffer latency or slow loading through all of our online devices, even though our connection speed displays a solid 72.0 Mbps. I've tried the Event Viewer to see any problems, and I have noticed some small things:
- WLAN AutoConfig service has successfully stopped.Wirel?
- WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped. Module Path: C:WindowsSystem32cmihvsrv64.dll
- The server {E10F6C3A-F1AE-4ADC-AA9D-2FE65525666E} did not register with DCOM within the required timeout.
- Broadcom NetLink (TM) Gigabit Ethernet: The network link is down. Check to make sure the network cable is properly connected. [This last one is strange, since I use the Wireless Network Connection with a DW1501 Wireless-N WLAN Half-Mini Card, while the Broadcom adapter is under the Local Area Connection and displayed as not connected.]
Other than that, I'm not quite sure what the recurring problem comes from. Our WCG200 has a firewall enabled and our E2000 has an SPI firewall enabled. The security mode of the E2000 is a WPA2 setup. We have disabled the wireless network of our WCG200 in order to make use of the E2000.

I am new to VPN and have set a server up using windows XP's built in feature. I have tried to connect to the VPN from inside the router and it works fine. but I can't access from outside of the router. The computer will connect but then when on the "Verifying Username and Password" step the connection will disconnect with error 721: The remote computer did not respond. The router that i have is a Lynksys WCG200, I have tried turning all the security features off. Could my router just not be compatible with VPN?

I have the WCG200 and it has been working fine with my Comcast service for the last 4 years with no issues, either wired or wireless. Starting about a week ago, I have been having a lot of trouble with my wireless. I am on Firmware Version: 2.0.3.9.31-1023 and my ISP is Comcast. I have tried calling Comcast to see if there is a firmware update but that phone call usually doesn't go very far.

I have a WCG200 v1, and lately it keeps reseting, so I started thinking maybe it's a power problem. I go to unplug it, and the power plug is extremely hot, so we unplug it, and let it cool off, then plug it back in later. It works fine, and we go to bed, I wake up this morning and it's back to very hot again..

I'm having a problem with my WCG200 wireless gateway. I can sucessfully use it to connect to the internet using the wireless feature but only for a short time (10-30min at a time). Eventually, I loose the connection. I'm not sure if it's a modem issue or an ISP issue but only one of my two laptops has this trouble.
Symptom: Connecting with a Dell Lattitude E5520 laptop It works normally until the "US" and "Online" LEDs turn off and only the DS light is left blinking. At that time I no longer have a connection to the internet. Once I cycle power on the WCG200 it re-connects and works for a while, then the same issue repeats. I cleared the modem log and let the failure occur again to record the fresh log.
I attached the Modem Log in case that would troubleshoot. I've got the security of the modem set to allow the laptops MAC addresses and using WPA-personal / TKIP encryption. I never had this problem until I started using a new laptop, I'm starting to suspect that my ISP is disconnecting that laptop for some reason ?

WCG200?i have just bought a new laptop with Vista Home Premium as the OS.i've already downloaded the new driver file, and unzipped it. but how to i install it so that i can get online wirelessly?all my permissions are set properly to allow communication, but i cannot get onto the wireless network.i've also noticed that the WCG200 is not listed on the Linksys Windows Vista Support page. does this mean that my WCG200 is not supported to work with Vista. if so, why are there Vista drivers available for download?currently i am connected via wire and it works fine. it also detects my wireless network. the problem is just connecting to it.

I just replaced a hard drive on my computer, installed win7, hooked up the linksys according to the guide but it is not recognizing anything attached. My devices indicates an unknown ethernet controller. I have installed no drivers for anything, no drivers were listed as needed for wcg200.
The same linksys is hooked up to a second computer (which I am posting from) so I am assuming it works fine. Also I had the thing set up on the last harddrive with win7, the only difference was the harddrive was loaded up with the OS by the computer shop. I have never done this before and wanted to try it out. I swapped ethernet cables to make sure nothing changed with the cables, but no luck.

I have a new internet connection. It is displaying lights for DSL, PWR, INET, WLAN.I can connect but it always reads the message "No Internet Access"I went to the service provider to get this fixed. And they created bridge mode through LAN so I could connect using a username and password. (create a new connection > broadband ). But I innocently pressed reset button. I don't want to go back to the service provider to setup the bridge mode or ability to connect by a username/password through LAN.

I already know how to bridge the lan and wifi connection so I can plug in an ethernet cable from the laptop to my desktop and get internet that way, but is there a way to actually turn the laptop into a router when it's connected to the router, wirelessly? I tried using ad hoc but it looks like that only works if I'm directly connected to the router.

How to set the WNR2000v3 into Bridge Mode. I can not find instructions on it in the user manual or the NetGear website. And Google.com has turned up not valuable results either.
I have the WRN2000v3 plugged into another router via Ethernet. I basically want to "dumb down' the WNR2000v3 into a basic Ethernet switch.

I need to figure out a network setup for my house between modem connected to one wireless bridge connected to another wireless router connected to wired router. The reason why I decided to make this evil setup is due to insufficient range between my wireless router and desktop pc upstairs. However, in the room next to it I have a very good wireless signal and a possibility to bridge it to wired network installed in my house. But in order to do it I guess I need to bridge that wireless signal via wireless router or bridge to wired network. [code]

I have a bluray player that I want to get internet to that is downstairs. I would like to use my old Linksys WRT54g ver 2 router to do this. I just put DD-WRT firmware on it. I have a Linksys E1000 as my primary router. All I want to do is be able to to put the Secondary router (WRT54G) downstairs near the bluray player and run an ethernet cable from the lan port on the router to the ethernet port on the bluray player to get internet access. What is the best way to do this? Client bridge or Client mode?

I have a laptop with a wireless adapter. I have a desktop without a wireless adapter. Both of these pc's have windows 7. I have the laptop and desktop connected by an ethernet cord, and the laptop has a wireless connection to the router. In Network Connections under the control panel, I used the Bridge Connections option to bridge the pc's together. At my friend's place, this is usually the end of this process as my desktop will have internet access and run fine. At my own place, however, the desktop will not have any internet until I set a static IP for it. Also at my place, games on the desktop tend to run with a lot of lag due to the internet.
- My friend has a cheap $30 ASUS router, i don't know the exact model of it atm
- My place uses a motorola sbg 6580 modem/router
