WRT54gs2 - Using DNS And DHCP From Campus?

Feb 20, 2011

So instead of using 192.168.* how can I have computers on my router use my school's 152.65.*? It'd be nice for sharing things around the place. I'm just not sure a WRT54gs2 can do this as I'm not sure its software allows for such routing capabilities.

I sort of know how one would theoretically do this (I'm currently taking a networking class at school) but can I do this with a WRT-54gs2?

My Router WRT54GS2 Is Viewable But Not Connectable

Feb 18, 2011

I have a linksys WRT54GS2. I forgot my password, so I pushed the little reset button. I reset the router and had to configure it all again. I thought it had it configured, because you can see the router name on the "view networks" page, but it just doesn't connect for some odd reason. What could this reason be? I have my router password protected, and I am sure I typed in the correct password.

Plugging in laptop to ethernet 1, no IP obtained.  ethernet 2, 3 and 4 give me an IP (192.168.1.100) but I can't ping the linkys.  Holding the reset button has not done anything.  I can connect and manage the Linksys wirelessly.  I've tried re-flashing firmware and resetting factory defaults.    Ethernet 1 LED is always on connected or not.  The other three light when connected.

Linksys Wireless Router ::WRT54GS2 - Ports Are Not Showing Activity

Mar 23, 2012

I have a Linksys model WRT54GS2 with 4 ports, with Ethernet cables connected to ports 1 and 2.  I have a laptop connected by wireless connection, with only an Xbox connected using Port 1 and occasionally port 2.  Just recently, port 1 shows no activity.  When connected to Xbox it doesn't display a check mark showing connection but does with port 2.  I've connected it to port 3 and 4, which shows a check mark but won't connect to Xbox live.  It's like port 2 only works, what I can do to "fix" ports 1, 3, and 4?

Find A Machine By Hostname In Campus LAN?

Dec 12, 2011

I manage the network of a small (120 users) network spread out over 5 sites within a 10 mile radius (for normal ops- extended ops can expand to include other cities).I think I'd call that a Campus LAN, perhaps it's just a really small MAN (for normal ops)...I am starting my CCENT/CCNA track so this may be blazingly obvious to some of you- but I'm sure to learn something either way...Every now and again we have to go find "hostname "X"" for an update that won't roll out by way of our (Server Sr SysAdmin's) tools, so we actually have to put hands on it. Unfortunately the prior admins didn't document the inventory to such a level that we know "laptop_015" is in the building down by the college.

I DO have documentation on my equipment (I'm the Network Sr SysAdmin) that I have rolled together over the last 9 months being here...I have a Cisco 5520 ASA, and use ASDM to manage it. What would be extremely handy would be the ability to put a query in the system to report back what switch a given hostname is plugged intoBetter yet, if it could tell me switch and switchport.I imagine this would be simple if I had the MAC address- there's got to be a way to grep the switches for a given MAC- but not sure if it'll work in a similar fashion for ARP lookups.

Linksys Wireless Router :: Turn Wrt54gs2 Into A Wifi Access Point?

Sep 1, 2011

I've been having trouble with my wrt54gs2 and 4 360's.  I tried a link someone posted for me to a cisco tutorial, it worked, but only for one 360.  I have a Netgear wndr3400, I HATE the wireless on that router.  Its unreliable but I like the features, the guest network and transfer meter, plus its worked with 4 360's out of the box.  So would it be possible to turn off my wifi on the Netgear and plug the wrt54gs2 in and use its wireless?

Linksys Wireless Router :: Wrt54gs2 V7 Not Working Wirelessly - No Orange Light?

Jun 3, 2012

So I have been having internet problems lately and first thought it was my modem. Figured out it wasn't the modem but the isp. After I woke up the next morning I found the wireless not to we working again but the hard connection to be just fine. I have tried resetting the  router but I'm not entirely sure I went through. The orange light no longer comes on. Wired connection also doesn't work while connected to the router. I have tried 192.168.1.1 and nothing loads. The router and modem are about 5 or 6 years old. A windows xp desktop, windows 7 and vista laptops are on the network with a blue ray player.the router is a wrt54gs2 v7

I think i have to reconfigure the router but I'm not sure. If that's the case why am i having trouble with 192.168.1.1?

Linksys WRT54GS2 Router - Wireless Internet Not Working With Two Devices Simultaneously?

Aug 2, 2012

I have a Linksys WRT54GS2 router, a PC (Windows XP) and a laptop (Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit).I have been using this router for 3 months. I was able to use the internet on both devices simultaneously until now. But suddenly since yesterday it only works for one device at a time, not both.

If I connect to the router then I can access the internet only from the laptop. To use the internet from the PC, I have to power off the router, type in run "netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt", and restart the PC. But as the router is off, the internet is inaccessible on the laptop.

While router is on, the PC shows limited or no connectivity.

I tried reseting the router 2-3 times.

On the laptop it sometimes shows "IP address conflict has been detected", even though the IP addresses of the devices were not the same. The IP address of the PC shows 169.X.X.X (when the router is on), whereas the ISP's IP addresses start with 124.X.X.X.

Cisco :: WS-C3560-48TS / LMS 3.2.1 - Campus Manager Is Missing Switch?

Feb 14, 2012

I have a strange problem with one switch in my LMS 3.2.1 installation. It is a WS-C3560-48TS with IOS 12.2(50)SE3 running. I have nine switches with the same type and IOS running without problems.

I notice the problem because there were no UT data for that switch. In RME and CS it was managed.Checking SNMP and config of the switch, but can't find any issues.Because at this time LMS ran in version 3.2 I installed at first CM 5.2.1 and after that the patches for CSCtd49439 and CSCtg20882.Next step was RME 4.3.1 with a lot of patches for different issues. Then I installed the patch for the internal error of CS (CSCtd07131).And finally I installed LMS 3.2.1 and patch for CSCto46927.Last step was installing the latest device packages. I did this directly from the application because it is much better handling than do a manual download. No the system seems to be fully updated.

I had the hope that CM will now find and manage this one switch. But it is still not available.I can't find the device in the data collection. But I can find it in the "Include Devices From DCR", although I configured to fetch all devices from DCR automatically to CM. To manually include the device is not working, too.

P.S. I used that step-by-step update path because it worked on two other servers very well for me.

Cisco Switching/Routing :: 3550 / 2950 DHCP Relay Option To Router Handing Out DHCP

How do I allow the Cisco Switches currently in place, configured with private ip addresses in the 10.10.x.x ranges and Vlans, where the main 3550 layer 3 has defined dhcp scopes for each vlan, to relay dhcp requests from all vlans to the PFSense firewall?

I assume I would take off the currently defined dhcp scopes for the vlans and configure each vlan/switch with the ip helper address and specify the PFSense firewall and that Nat would have to be disabled onthe firewall?

D-Link DIR-655 :: DHCP Turned Off As ASA 5500 Is Providing DHCP

May 30, 2011

I have a Cisco ASA 5500 as the main router with a DIR-655 as a wireless access point behind it.  DHCP is turned off on the 655 as the ASA is providing DHCP.  This worked great for about a year and now suddenly, without any changes, I'm having problems.  The only thing that connects without a problem is a laptop, which shows up on the device list with an IP.  Other devices have problems.  iPhones connect, show an IP on the device itself, but when listed in the connected list on the 655 show no IP.  The connection is super slow.  An Airport Express will connect, but again, shows no IP in the connected list on the 655.  Using the ethernet cable from the Airport Express, nothing can get an IP.  I can live with the iPhone not connecting, but the Airport Express not connecting is a major problem.  Any reason why this would just stop working one day?
